Backstory below the cut:
She never questioned her life, much like she never questioned her love for Mihir and her native Varchas. One rarely has to when all is well and life is easy.
She doesn’t understand why her brother did not share this contentedness. Fraternal twins, they were ever-close, sharing everything, but his interest in the Jewel-Turbaned Youth and his fanciful club was something that she simply could not get her mind around. The rest of the family paid it no mind—they’re harmless anyway. Let him have his fun.
She doesn’t know what it was that stopped her from retiring to bed that one fateful evening, a nagging in the back of her head that something was off. When she stepped back out into the yellow evening lamplight, a familiar shape slipping down the streets confirmed her intuition. Her brother made it as far as the Mirrored Gate before she clamped her hand around his wrist. Was he mirror-mad? What could he possibly be thinking? Who would want to leave the light, and to set sail on a steamer with a Tamaas captain he’d only met that morning? She’d argued with him, begging him to see sense, until they were both shouting. Deep in their quarrel, she’d barely noticed the shape in the mirror pressed up against his back until it was too late. It struck and he screamed, jerking to the side. Hand still latched around his arm, she slipped in turn, down the slope beyond the gate and both of their lives ended in an instant.
She’d later piece together what had happened from The Sympathetic Captain, most of her memories a blur, and Mihir knows, she’d had enough time on that ship to play her retelling back in her head in endless combinations. Before her brother had even met the ground, before his head had hit stone and his heart had stopped beating, he was Tamaas. As was she, not a fraction of a second later. The Captain had heard the commotion and was not far from the bottom of the cliff. She had insisted that the Captain take them both, that no one in the city would help them anymore. She had to get him to the next port where he could recover.
How his body had disappeared a day later, on a ship miles from the coast, was not one the Captain could answer, no matter how much she raged, how many objects in the cabin she smashed in her fugue. The Captain could only offer a sympathetic ear and a cup of tea.
When the ship finally docked in London she disappeared into the darkness, too ashamed of her grief to say goodbye. Her life was over, but somehow she would have to keep living, Tamaas or otherwise.

Well I've been told I wrecked people's lives with "Don't Say Goodbye" so I guess that one 😁

Everything in Zelink, Promptly has a fluffy ending so most people would say that one. But I think the relief in the way Calamitous ends is my favorite flavor of happy.

Woof, I don't know. I like my dialogue. And I dabble in a lot of world building. But I don't really have an area where I feel like I ✨shine✨

I'm really wordy. And my plots have the structural integrity of a Jenga tower after 27 turns. And it takes me four years to finish anything. I could go on. 😅
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Like a made up language? I did this in An Inconvenience because overcoming the language barrier is a major plot point. Constructing the grammar/syntax/vocabulary was very time consuming though and I probably wouldn't do it again unless the story demanded it.

Probably Branded, not because it's super great or anything but because I stayed true to the story I wanted to tell in spite of the self-doubt monster. 😎✨

Magic of a touch
(slightly nsfw-ish at the end, a bit suggestive)
You always seemed to be a fragile thing. Those who got to know you would snicker nervously at such a statement. Nothing could be further from weak or fragile.
You were born before the years of the sun and you matured in the darkest times in Beleriand, earning yourself a reputation of incredibly skilled healer, but also of a seer who could track past with unsettling accuracy.
The orcs get to experience the darkest side of your special talent and run for their lives before even the slightest hint of your presence. More than once they experienced your wrath when you were defending yourself or those in your care. You were no warrior but using your abilities to have them feel what all they did to their victims made you scarier than anyone.
New lights come, and new elves come from the west, from beyond the Great Sea. You meet them for the first time at the shores of lake Mithrim, when their scouts find you gathering herbs. They bring you before their troubled leader, Macalaurë is his name.
Language barrier is easily overcome, with the help of both your skill and some of other Sindar, who befriended elves from Undying lands, the Noldor. After introducing yourself, you are brought to Noldorin healers and you are asked - very politely - to trade knowledge with them.
You soon are asked (if not begged) to stay with them - you are the best when dealing with poisoned or cursed wounds. In return, you are taught healing songs and words of power that boost recovery.
One night, there is an uproar in the camp of Fëanorians. The eldest of seven brothers had been rescued by his cousin from the group on the opposite bank of the lake! But oh, the condition he is in is grave!
Macalaurë asks you to go to his relatives and to help his brother heal as best as possible. You don't even need your skill of a seer to know, how important this is for all, not only for Macalaurë and his brothers. And so you agree.
When you arrive to Nolofinwë's camp, along with Macalaurë and his escort, you can practically see the daggers of stares, piercing all of your companions. This makes you wary, but your main concern is the patient himself.
The first time, the sight of him is horrendous. All the healers here look terrified of what they can barely guess, and what is beyond their understanding. When you see the stump instead of his right hand, you ask with blank voice, if the rescuer brought the rest of patient's right hand as well.
Sadly, he couldn't.
You explain all the healers the torture, your patient had to endure. Even those who looked upon him with barely restrained hatred are shocked. You describe it as if you yourself experienced it.
"Well, I did in a sense - with every elf who I healed from the wounds caused by the orcs or other monsters. This is how I became one of the best healers. I can trace the way the injury was caused, feel it as if it were my own, and thanks to that, I know what all I need to heal and what to sooth."
Stunned silence and wide-eyed stares are the only reactions you get at first. How could you talk about it so casually? Some later hesitate to let you heal Lord Nelyafinwë Maitimo, but you just roll your eyes. You gave your promise and you don't intend go back on it. Even if you are certain this one would be the worst case you had ever got to heal.
It takes weeks of dealing with all the damages, some being permanent. And even if Maitimo's body gains back its strength rather quickly and you could practically feel that vitality hidden in it, that inner fire still going, his soul was something entirely different.
While you were healing his body, you had to keep an eye of his spirit, gently soothing it, encouraging it, helping it with it's first steps to recovery. You demand to have his relatives tend to him, taking turns, talking to him, singing to him, helping to change his bandages, or just being there, close to him.
Given enough time, it helps and slow process of healing becomes sure and steady. You finally get to know him better.
"I...I know your voice," he exhales with realization and recognition.
"I'm glad you do, my lord," you smile sadly at him, without pity though, that much he is sure of. You are the one, together with Findekáno, who has him keep trying to do things one-handed, one to help him train his remaining hand and mainly assuring him that even if mutilated, he is still capable to look after himself.
You are the one to dispell his doubts about his looks.
"Now I'm not much different from those foul servants of the Enemy..." he almost spits out.
"Oh, but you are. Scars tell your story. your true beauty shines through them like fire shines through cracks of a shell. To me they tell a lot about all the pain, but also about all the strength you still have. These scars tell a story of hopeless dispair, and yet, you still are sane. But mainly - true monsters do not know remorse, sorrow, love. You do, my lord."
Fast forward, you part from the Noldor for some time, and you wander for a bit, before you find your home at the pools of Ivrin. Some other healers join you there and together you form a settlement, a sanctuary and a place of healing for those badly injured both in body and mind or even a spirit.
You meet Lord Maedhros once again, when his nephew devices a prosthetic for him and you help to adjust it. It leads to a discovery of special runes, that help the mind to control artificial body part.
And when Maedhros finally gets to use his right hand again almost the same way as before, he can barely contain his excitement and ends up pulling you close and kissing you, taking your breath away.
"Uh...erm...seems that I got...I'm sorry, I..."
"Could you repeat that, my lord?"
"Wha? All that stuttering?"
"No. All that before it," you whisper all red.
That was how you started courting. Your courtship was complicated to say at best. There was a lot to handle on both sides - you were used to be alone, on your own, and wandering through the land in search for the best herbs.
He was still struggling with chronic pains and nightmares and memories of his captivity, torment and what all he saw.
Maedhros was rarely willing to share even just a bit of it, but with you there, understanding far more than anyone could did help him a lot.
"Many find my skills kind of...twisted way of healing," you make a sour smirk. "Others just don't get why I am willing to heal like that, and there are some, especially those who saw me fight, who are scared by me, Mae."
"Scared? Why?"
"Because they know I can see right into their core by feeling in. I get to learn things they would'n even dare to think and more than once I found foul things in the hearts of those you would least expect it," you sigh. "Things even they themselves lock down deep inside, because they are scared or repulsed by them. It does come in handy and helps with the healing, but...rarely I find anyone willing to touch me on their own."
"That's....quite a heavy burden," he nods.
"Yeah. It does though has it's ups too," you smile at him.
He finds out during your wedding night...when he gets to feel what you feel, all your heavenly pleasure, your complete, deep joy and love that reforges him and brings him relief from his self-loathing.
All these stories about helping Maedhros heal and get better are helping me get back into creativity mode ❤ wish I could be there for the giant ginger baby.

hii i saw your post about moving to a new country for uni, how are you doing so far? and im debating with myself whether i should do it or not, i do have one good option in my own country but i'm not exactly psyched for it. thoughts?
Yes. So, even though I'm scared as fuck, I know I'm doing this for myself and for my future. It's basically getting out of my comfort zone, and I know that staying here I would've turned into a frustrated sad bitch. I'm leaving in a week or so, and then I'll be left there alone for almost a month until uni starts in September. I'm barely holding up, having 0 emotional support form my fam, and almost no help with the papers since they don't speak English and I am the one that has to figure out everything. But it's ok. I've always done things alone and i know that I'll be alone for a very long time. Getting no emotional support and no mutual emotional understanding from your family it strengthens you in a weird, sick and vile way. But sadly we can't change how we're treated.
There's the language barrier, which I'm willing to overcome since I speak English well, and I'm not afraid of learning a new language.
If you're debating on whether to leave or stay, just go. You have one life. Imagine how many great opportunities you'll get wherever you're moving. International friendships, cultural diversity, everything. I also had a VERY good option in my country, but I felt like that wasn't my way, even though it was a city I actually liked. And even if it'll be hard at first, just tell yourself you have an end goal and that it'll be infinitely better for you in the long run.

the thing about the ice planet barbarians books is that like. the first book was passable. its erotica but the plot was actually interesting in its own way there was a distinct sense of urgency tension and suspense because these women crash landed on a mountain and the protagonist has to venture out into the unknown to search for help. we dont know if the other women are going to live or if the protagonist will be able to overcome the language barrier between her and her love interest in time to save them. there's the underlying threat of this interplanetary trafficking ring who kidnapped these women in the first place. its not a Great book but it doesnt suck either. its passable. the second book functions as a decent sequel. we have a plucky self-sufficient protagonist who refuses to be reduced down to her reproductive capacity and the dynamic she has with her love interest is fun to follow. the central conflict of the book is interesting enough. its a passable sequel. the rest of the series is downright nauseating. its like watching the bachelor in paradise except worse because of all the racist troupes and cringy sex scenes. why does this series have 20 books

For BTS's Jimin, music transcends language barriers
South Korean singer releases solo album that peers deep into his soul
TOKYO -- BTS member Jimin will release his debut solo album "Face" on Friday, marking a milestone since the sensational South Korean boy band decided to concentrate on their solo projects and the oldest member, Jin, was conscripted into the military last December.
In a recent written interview with Nikkei, Jimin divulged the creative muses that went into his new album. He also talks about how music is powerful enough to transcend national borders and languages, and lays out how BTS aims to stage a comeback in 2025.
Edited excerpts from the interview follow.
Q: How did you prepare for the release of your "Face" debut solo album?
A: I worked on "Face" while looking back on the time during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as on my own self. I began actively working on the album from the start of 2022. One of the things that pushed me to do the album was [BTS] members suggesting I try expressing my various thoughts and feelings into music.
Just knowing that my album is about to be released worldwide has made me so nervous that I feel like I'm trembling. It's my first solo album and I wonder how people would react to it. ... But the tension feels great.
Q: You said this album will express your true self, but how would you describe the true Jimin?
A: Various emotions will be part of you after going through a variety of experiences in life. I believe that everyone has a deeper aspect of themselves that they don't really want to confront. I made my solo album while peering at the feelings deep within myself.
Even the word "face" can be used as a noun, or as a verb as in "to confront." I want to show my true face and speak to you honestly. For those who are used to seeing the glamorous side of me on stage, this album will show the other side of me, and show me overcoming my loneliness and struggles through music.
Q: Would you mind telling us your goals and your inspirations as a solo artist?
A: For me, everything about this solo album was a way of challenging myself, so I believe this is a different start for me as a singer. So rather than having a very large goal, I want to live up to the feelings of everyone who has high hopes for me. I'd also be glad if those who don't know much about me are able to discover how I've transformed.
Whenever I view the other [BTS] members, they always influence me positively and they're a source of inspiration for music and performing. Lately, I had been given an opportunity to collaborate with Taeyang [the artist also known as Sol in the boy group Big Bang], my longtime role model whom I look up to. It was such a wonderful influence seeing him look far more incredible than I would've imagined.
Q: How do you see the success BTS has achieved since its debut in 2013?
A: Thanks to the support from all our fans, I was able to have an unbelievably dreamlike experience. I don't take anything for granted, whether it is being nominated for a Grammy, or winning the No. 1 spot on Billboard's main Hot 100 chart -- those were all miracles that would not have happened without the "Army" [BTS fans] who love our music and performances.
I think that I need to do my best and live up to the passionate support I have received, which has motivated me to strive and move forward.
Q: The other BTS members are also working on solo projects. How do you enjoy each other's work?
A: The other members were nervous before the release of their solo albums, but they're turning out well. Their music reflects their own individual color, and the performances and the approach to their projects are filled with their own distinct personalities that I personally have fun watching as I support them.
The advice from the members was the catalyst for me to produce my solo album. The words from the members helped me during the production of the album, and for me personally, they also played a role in deciding which direction my album should take, which is reassuring.
Q: What are your thoughts on the power of music?
A: I'm a singer but I'm also a listener, and I receive positive energy and comfort from music. Just like other artists' music has affected how I think and given me strength, I hope people can feel what I feel and resonate with my music. That's what drives me to keep making music.
Music lets us relate to other people at any time, under any circumstance, and reminds us of who we were in those moments. That's the biggest power music has. Music can transcend countries and languages. We saw that firsthand, so we know better than anyone how powerful it can be.
Q: Aside from your new album, what's in store for you in 2023?
A: This year will be full of new challenges for me, including the release of "Face." I'm focusing solely on the album for now. But I'm thinking about how I can show different sides of myself, and have many things in the works. I also don't have any hobbies I can talk about, so I'd like to find one.
Q: How do you think solo activities by BTS members will help the group in the future?
A: When I see what the other members are doing, I'm amazed by just how different we all are. Making my solo album made me realize how much I relied on other members on certain things. I faced deep dilemmas about music as well. I think the other members are experiencing similar things, which will help generate great synergy when we come back together as a group.
Q: What are your thoughts on the influence you and BTS have?
