"Shot In The Dark"

Also known as the "Paranormal Investigator AU." 👻

(This is the one and only abandoned WIP pertaining to it, years old now, thrown together with stock imagery and a bit of painting! Still works, though. Image is of Sal and Ken, her brother. Bless them.) 💜

There are two different versions of this one. One is original, one has some Kingdom Hearts characters and references going on!

Synopses:

Original AU: Specializing as a paranormal investigator in her free time, Sal teams up with fellow paranormal enthusiasts (which includes Blane) to look into some recent activity in her old home town. She ends up encountering the ghost of her brother, who informs her his death was not her fault. Promising him to forgive herself for her disillusionment and that she'll find the true perpetrator, she sets out to avenge his death however she can.

Fanfic AU: Extreme paranormal events have been recorded, piquing the interest of a few paranormal enthusiasts across the nation. In classic Blair Witch Project style, they team up and set out on an investigation, losing one of their members to the inexplicable phantasm. In their state of fear and grief, some choose to abandon the investigation while others remain stalwart, now hellbent on solving the mystery - not only to avenge their fallen fellow member, but to reconcile the lives of many who had already been lost and the false accusations that had been made in turn. Essentially, this one involves Lauriam, setting out to find out what happened to his sister, Strelitzia. Uncovering what happened to Strelitzia may help unravel the mystery of what happened to Sal's brother many years ago. To this end, these two notably work together for the sake of their siblings as well as others.

Additional Notes:

This series was very strongly inspired by an indie game known as Sylvio. Or, more specifically, both the original and its sequel, Sylvio 2.

The overall feel and concept of these games was just a banger. The first game is quirkier than the second, but the stronger of the two, by far. Second one is very moody and introduces some new ways to spook you, but... definitely not as good as the first one!

The main character reminded me of Sal in a few ways and knowing how Ethereals can interact with spectral entities (ghosts) as is, I thought it would be fun to translate that ability into a hobby Sal may have as a human in an AU.

I also realized this AU would allow me to put a interesting twist on an old rendition of what transpires between Sal and her brother. (What now happens canonically may be different, but it's still sad, if not sadder...! It's always fated to be sad, no matter the story or AU. Yet another one of those previously mentioned "curses" always placed on her. Sal is a character who shoulders a lot of grief, turning "pain into poetry" - and that tends to be one of the biggest sources of it in every story I ever put her in. It's awful - I'm awful - but it's part of what makes her into the Sal we know and love in these stories.) 🤍

And, if you know me, the soundtrack just as strongly motivates the overall mood and story beats of these tales too. 🎵

EXPERIENCING SOME CONFLICTING EMOTIONS

#tales of vesperia #removing repede because clearly a dog is the best choice and im more curious about the human option results #I'm actually gonna say karol because he's quite handy and it'd be fun to dote on him a little :) #yuri is a bit of a slob as shown in the first strike but otherwise a good option #estelle is sweet but naive like she'd totally fuck up your nonstick pans by accident. can't stay mad at her though #rita would be the worst i bet shes totally blind and indifferent towards her own messes #judith would be great but i imagine she's the type to walk around her home half naked so you'd need to get used to that #raven might be alright? i feel like he's the type to not spend much time at home though #flynn also is a fair option im sure hes tidy but maybe a bit of a stickler. also he works so much it'd be hard to invite him places #and lastly patty is a little too chaotic to me. the type to use the windows instead of the doors. or put a live fish in the fridge. #as for write-ins i think ioder would be pretty chill

very happy for ruehob and all but i want a second series where rue realises that they now have to very quickly learn to support their traumatised autistic partner bc they are NOT ready for that

#i have slightly mixed feelings about how ruehob went down in the last ep #but i get that narratively they needed to tie up everything #and overall it was beautiful #honestly i just feel like the ep was too short? #rly they needed a couple more eps to deal with everything #like... HOW did hob come to the conclusion that he would leave #so quickly #after a lifetime of service #i want to see how that went down #i want to know more about lady sylmenar! #it was nice and i did rly like the overall theme and story #but there's just a couple of bits that felt too neat and tidy and not realistic for me #but i can't fault them for it they just didn't have the time i think #a court of fey and flowers

so MAYBE I spent 4 hours in IKEA on a whim instead of cleaning my flat BUT! BUT!!!!! I bought several forms of Tiny Shelves which as any fule kno makes everything instantly tidier.

added yet another tier to my stack of tea/coffee/cocoa/misc shelves to control The Collection. got trays under all my draining plant pots so I can actually water them. and I got a new monitor stand which is wide enough to fit both my A3 tablet and my A5 tablet underneath and has a shelf with enough space to trade out my work and home laptops easily. plus it's like 3in less deep than my old one, so that's freed up a bunch more desk space.

also of course vitally we did get the Small BLAHÅJ which was the whole point.

I also found a portable freestanding bag situation (toybox from the nursery section) which is both a) a way better option for storing glass recycling and hauling it down 3 flights of stairs than my previous solution "small cardboard box which holds 8 jars/bottles until one of us can be bothered to transfer them into a bag" and b) HAS A REALLY CUTE WHALE ON IT

plus we (Sam) got some new plant friends and the next size up of a lidded pyrex box I've always found super good for lasagne. and Sam got several things he's needed for a while (as well as a wee shark)

in summary did I spend too much money at IKEA and fritter away a full day walking around aimlessly for fun to the point of exhaustion? yes. was it extremely sensible and adult and I'm actually correct in all regards always? perhaps.

#red said #the disadvantage of the new monitor stand is bc the sides are solid it's a lot less good for cable management than the old one #i may need to consider my approach to that #i don't want to tie any laptop cables down bc both chargers need to leave my room relatively frequently #but it's a bit suboptimal right now cause one transformer pack is taking up a big chunk of the shelf #and my work macbook charger is kind of folded around awkwardly to keep it plugged in while the laptop's tucked away #on the other hand my tablets are both tidier and more accessible #so it's 6 of one half a dozen of the other #anyway. i was too productive last thing before bed so although I'm very tired i now can't sleep #but i rearranged things into the new trays and shelves and tidied my desk and sorted out my laundry #so that's not 'cleaned the flat' but given that i got in at 10pm it's not nothing #anyway i got Sam a peace lily and he got another plant too #and talked me out of buying a sweet pepper plant which. he's RIGHT i have already occupied EVERY surface with my chili and tomato seedlings #and buying a plant from IKEA for £8.50 vs buying seeds for like £1.75 and getting several years of multiple plants #just isn't as good an economic proposition #but i want the peppers NOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW #he is right though

sometimes watching tv is good :) i've been watching home decor and home organising shows for the past couple of weeks, and today is my very first day of summer holiday (perks of being a teacher) and i immediately started reorganising and cleaning up my home

#i'm so excited #i'm an expert at depression rooms #my space gets cluttered there's stuff on the floors #actually you can't even see the floors you can't take a step without stepping on something #and i hate it i'm an organised person at heart i need clarity and i need designated spaces and i need a system #it's just that when life gets overwhelming i tend to let my home get that way too #i don't have the energy to clean and tidy up #and let's face it i tend to buy a lot of stuff #mostly yarn and other craft supplies #i have SO MUCH yarn #and it's taking over everything #including my bed #i barely have any room left on my bed to sleep it's becoming a problem #so i'm finding solutions #i'm buying clear drawers and coloured boxes so i can get my shit organised #but still have a cute and functioning home #utilising every bit of wall space in a way that's efficient and doesn't feel cluttered #basically i'm trying to get everything contained to the wall areas with new storage and repurposing existing storage #to free up the center of the room #i actually love cleaning up so when my space is a mess you know it means i am also a mess #the only thing i don't like is doing the dishes #oh how i wish i had a dishwasher #anyway. i'm excited to have a clean and tidy room soon #we'll tackle the dishes later lol #rain.stuff

idk who needs to hear this, but if an establishment you are eating at has bins you can access, that means you are expected to dispose of your rubbish yourself, not leave it for a waiter

#life hack #also if you were provided with napkins you should wipe up any spills #crumbs too. #ideally someone will wipe down your table immediately after you leave but thats often not possible #due to the restaurant being busy / understaffed #tidy up before you go #it doesnt take long and it makes everyone elses life a bit easier
