Call me crazy but I could never ship Steve with people who beat the shit out of him even if he did say something shitty. Why is it more okay for a man to hit another man? I never understood that. To me, it's still just as horrifying as when a man brutalizes a woman, but maybe that's just me. It's still assault. I guess it's that whole boy will boys mentality that I just fucking hate. I hope we can all work together to erase that fucking saying because I hate it. I don't know. Maybe I'm weird.

No so much of a confession, but you're sooo real for mostly consuming x reader or self insert content. Maybe it's a bit sexual but the fics my friends read are so much worse when it comes to character accuracy. (I'm basing this all on Steve content) At least in x reader content, the majority of fics is cute and not straight up mean to the character they like (aka nobody would treat Steve the way Eddie treats him in the majority of Steddie fics. Even the party treats Steve better in x reader content than in other fics where they bully him in order to put him into his place for no reason other than fun, I guess). Like I don't know why it's considered cringe or a less respectable way of writing fics. I'm currently writing my own, and it's so hard to make a new character from scratch and work them into the world without making them too 2 dimensional.

Plus, due to watching the show so often and viewing the characters the way they are outside of ships, I literally can't ship any of the major teen pairings. It's too messy for my liking. And when I read fics and they leave out the messiness, which they often do, it doesn't feel authentic to the character. Like, no, Steve wouldn't love Robin for dating his ex he still has feelings for. Robin and Steve's friendship would suffer if Ronance would happen. Or Steve pining after Jonathan after Nancy cheated with Jonathan on Steve would be so ooc for him. Because everyone has a messy history, I can't enjoy ships bc it takes away from the actual characters. (The only reason I don't ship Steddie is that Eddie is literally dead and Steve wasn't too upset about it, and it's something I can't tune out)

X reader content isn't perfect by any means, esp because it can be cruel to canon love interests (Nancy, for example), but tbh that's also a problem with character ship fics. Or the characters are not accurate enough because of romance issues. Again, it's also a huge problem in ship fics. And I rather enjoy ooc fics where it's at least not done in order to be malicious towards a character. I can only speak for Steve tho. I know Eddie in x reader content is so ooc because people perceive him as a bad boy and are so stereotypical with him. But that also kinda translated into steddie fics.

Idk I just enjoy x reader content, esp for Steve, because he has no good love interest in the actual I could get behind with shipping. I can't just blend out the history he has with others (Nancy and Jonathan).

Yeah, reader inserts are definitely the way to go for me! And don't worry, I get what you're saying. I don't typically read Steve x Show Character, but I've occasionally dabbled in some Steve x Nancy fics just to see how I feel about it, and I enjoy those because most of the fics I've seen analyze their relationship, and they're not rude to each other in the fics. If I'm reading fics where Steve is paired up with someone in the show, for me it has to be a ship that would honest to God make sense canonically, and Steddie or Stonathan do not fall in that category.

And there's nothing wrong with Reader Insert fics. Nothing at all. It's a trend to hate on Reader Inserts, and to me that's just plain stupid. I get it, reading "Y/N" over and over can be silly, but there's so many well written Reader Insert fics in the fandom. Thank you Reader Insert writers for being amazing!!!! <3

No one asked but I'm bored so here are my ratings of popular Stranger Things ships! (kind of a long post).

Disclaimer: Ship who you wanna ship. This is just for fun :)

Byler: 100/10, I love my boys. No notes.

Lumax: Also a 100/10. They're just so!!!

Elmax: 9/10. I love them with my whole heart but I'm a Lumax shipper first and foremost.

Elumax: 100000/10. Literal perfection. Elmax AND Lumax (and Hopclair, depending on how you view the ship dynamic)? Literally what more could you want?

Duzie: 7/10. They're cute and I really like Suzie. I wish we could've seen more of them, maybe Suzie will come back with a bigger role next season.

Henderhop: 6/10. Typically I HC El as a lesbian but I actually like this pairing. Definitely not a ship I'd die on but I enjoy interacting with the fan content.

Henderclair: 6/10. Listen, I love their dynamic. If I didn't HC Dustin as the token straight, I'd probably rate them higher. Platonically? Literally everything to me. Romantically? I'm not opposed.

Byclair: 8/10. I also like them a lot but I'm a die-hard Byler shipper. I do enjoy interacting with the fan content though!

Wheelclair: 7/10. They're silly and I love them but this is a particular dynamic I prefer platonic. I do HC that Mike had a crush on Lucas when they were younger though.

Mileven: 1/10. I'm just not a fan. I'm giving them a one solely cuz I enjoyed them in season 1 when I first watched the show in middle school, but I'm definitely not a fan of this ship at all. Platonically though?? Amazing.

Jancy: 10/10. I love them. I'm praying every day that the Duffers didn't completely fuck them up and that they'll be endgame.

Ronance: 9/10. I like them, they're cute. I interact with a lot of their fan content. Let's go lesbians.

Rovickie/Rockie: 7/10. I just don't know enough about Vickie yet to know if them as endgame is what I'm rooting for, but from what we've seen they're cute.

Stonathan: 10/10. I love them and I'm so excited for their interactions in season 5! They're the enemies to lovers.

Jargyle: 9/10. Love me some stoner boyfriends. They've definitely kissed before at least once.

Stancy: -10000/10. BOOOOOOO 🍅🍅🍅. They are not right for each other. Steve deserves someone who loves him and Nancy deserves someone she loves.

Stoncy: 3/10. If it's in the way that Steve and Jonathan are dating and Jonathan and Nancy are dating with Nancy and Steve being platonic, then sure. But if it's all three dating, nah. Steve and Nancy just don't work imo.

Buckingham (Chrissy x Robin): 8/10. I think this is considered a rare pair but I think they're adorable and I love the fan content around them.

Hellcheer: 5/10. Not my favorite but I have no issues with this ship. I see the vision of them as best friends mainly.

Steddie: 5/10. They're not bad and I interact with some of their fan content (some of their tiktok edits go hard), but they're just kind of okay, you know?

Jopper: 10/10. I love them. Been a Jopper fan since day one. They're so endgame.

I don’t care what people have to say Argyle has been a great person in Jonathan’s life. He puts Johnathan first, taught him how to relax and cope with his feelings, talk and give advice about Johnathan’s issues, and helps ground Johnathan in general. You just can tell Johnathan is happier with Argyle than he ever has been with Steve and Nancy.

I honestly agree with you. I don't really involve myself in crack ship or non-canon ship conversation because I think it's...pointless??? Lol.

However, I could entertain the idea of Jonathan and Argyle! We don't know too much about Argyle, but in my opinion, Argyle has been a breath of fresh air for Jonathan (and for the audience), and he doesn't put up with Jonathan's lies and excuses. He calls him out on shit which I think he needed in season 4. (From my perspective I don't read anything in their relationship as romantic, just a lot of friendly banter and bickering. But I know others do so hey, whatever floats your boat, yanno? You do you, boo.)

Jon and Nancy might be able to work if they can work on their communication issues, but to be totally honest with you, they are on two different pages going in two different directions that don't really include the other anymore. And Jonathan and Steve never made sense as a pairing and never will make sense as a pairing. Jonathan still has ill feelings toward Steve which was shown in season 4...but even aside from that neither of them ever had romantic or even platonic feelings for the other. There's no evidence of that presented in the show. The most they'd ever be is acquaintances or friends.

This may be a controversial opinion, but one of the things that I think the fruity four lacks that stonathan+ronance has is the legitimate double platonic besties energy. Let me explain, fruity four fans try to make Eddie and Nancy best friends, occasionally, but they simply aren't. You know who would be, in the case of ronance and stonathan? Jonathan and Nancy. They already are best friends. I think if they had a mutual and good breakup, then they'd be able to stay best friends easily.

A bonus aspect is the fact that everyone is canonically alive for ronance+stonathan.
