;; Alright, guys! I’m a little late since I usually make this sort of announcement at the beginning of the month, but that’s neither here nor there! Anyway!

It’s spooky time, and because of that, I am leaving a note here for you guys, of some special muses that show up on my blog around this time of year. Those muses are as follows:

- Artimaes Krippt -

Dear Arty is a long-standing muse of mine, but he’s usually fairly quiet except around October. And sometimes he’ll stick around for a little while after. He’s a beloved muse, at least by me, and an absolute sweetheart. Despite everything, that is.

Artimaes comes from a novel series I’m working on that I’ve been calling ‘the Hallows series’, and he is a Headless Horseman. Not exactly the Headless Horseman, but a horseman without a head all the same. He was beheaded years ago, and put under the usual curse of ‘whoever possesses his head controls him’ kind of deal.

Long story short, a teenage boy named Milo goes into the graveyard and takes Arty’s head on a dare, because what kind of story would it be without that, on Halloween night when there’s a full moon overhead. The perfect time to accidentally raise the dead, am I right? From that point on, shenanigans ensue and the two of them actually kind of.. end up possibly falling for each other? Anyway, yeah. So that’s just a little about Arty and his story.

- Samhain the Cryptkeeper -

This one’s somewhat of a newer addition. Samhain, or Sam, is a dullahan (sort of like Arty but different) and he’s a bit of a prankster. See, he’s more likely to intentionally give someone a spook than to do it accidentally, and then he will laugh about it. Still, he does have a job to do and he does it well.

I haven’t exactly named the book series that’ll feature him, but for now let’s just call it.. the Cryptkeeper series. Since.. yeah. Samhain the Cryptkeeper. Anyway, basic story for him is that it is his eternal duty to guard these crypts where a horrible demon king was imprisoned and sealed away. That’s another reason why he intentionally jump-scares people. He’s chasing them away from the crypts. Honestly, he’s a pumpkin-headed menace, lol. (He does have his head, he just likes to hide it places and use a jack-o-lantern instead, for shits and giggles)

But one chilly October evening, he slacks off just a bit on his duties and a bunch of teenagers manage to get past him and they steal some important objects from the crypts, which triggers the countdown to the demon king rising again. And now Sam has become the protector of these idiot teens, and it’s ultimately a whole found family type of thing. And that’s it for Sammy boy.

- Micah V. James -

Now, Micah is also sort of a year-round muse, but he gets especially noisy during October. He used to have his own blog, but I have since moved him here alongside so many others. So yeah. Here’s a zombie with a brain, and a soul. How’s that for a fun time?! Lol.

He’s the main protagonist of another novel series of mine called ‘the Guidebooks series’, or ‘Micah’s Guidebooks’, with the first one in the series being ‘Micah’s Guide to the Monster World’ and the second being ‘Micah’s Guide to Zombies’. Anyway!

Micah and his friends/coworkers are paranormal investigators/mediators/advocates/whatever else they’re needed to be. And they’re all something paranormal or supernatural themselves. Like Micah, for example, being a zombie. But yeah, these guys are who you call instead of the Ghostbusters. For every kind of paranormal/supernatural problem.

Micah is one of the newest members of the team, and he was raised up by a necromancer who… well, wasn’t actually present for Micah’s rising. This man had to dig himself out of his own grave, not to mention he now bears a sigil on his back (also courtesy of the necromancer) that binds his soul inside his body and makes him effectively immortal, and even semi-indestructible. So that’s his thing. He’s the front man when things get dangerous just because he can survive through.. a lot of shit. He’s sarcastic and occasionally moody and has a bit of a short temper, but he’s a good guy and he really does care. And that’s it for Micah!

And that’s it so far for my spooky muses that have come out for the season! If any more pop up, I will add them too!

4: Have you ever been published, or do you want to be published?

I had an opportunity to be featured in a short story anthology, but I decided not to because the publishing company didn't sit right with me. It doesn't exist anymore either, so I'm guessing that was the right call?

I do want to be published some day!

7: Standalone or series?

I want to stay standalone, but almost every standalone I write ends up getting a sequel because the characters refuse to let me go lol

When it comes to reading, however, I do prefer standalones.

11: Books and/or authors who influenced you the most

JULES VERNE

You wouldn’t guess it if you looked at what I write nowadays, but way back in the day when I first got serious about writing, I was writing sci-fi and adventure stories. So Verne is kind of what got me (back) into writing.

I think Cassandra Clare and her The Mortal Instruments series was what first got me writing urban fantasy, which is still one of my favourite genres to write today, so there’s that.

12: Describe your perfect writing space

Somewhere desolate but with an amazing view. I’m thinking like, a little house on the beach, all you gotta do is take the stairs down and you’re by the water. But it’s far away from people so no one will interrupt you.

But really, as long as I’ve got somewhere comfortable to sit, I can write anywhere lol

14: How do you deal with self-doubts?

By reminding myself that someone looked at 50 Shades and decided that was good enough to be published, so my writing can’t be all that bad.

20: How many WIPs and story ideas do you have?

Oh boy. Uh. Okay, let’s see.

25: Favourite part of writing

Remembering that this is a world and these are characters that I created out of thin air. It really does make you feel like a god lmao

34: What was the hardest scene you ever had to write?

Right, okay, so you might have seen me mention a story called Bad Moon Rising. It was a queer supernatural thriller that I wrote about four years ago? Anyway, I ended up turning what was supposed tone a short story into a full-length novel, which I finished two years ago.

There’s this scene near the end of the first part where the MC’s boyfriend has a breakdown in the shower after he kills someone that was absolutely heartbreaking to write. It’s a really sad thing because throughout the entire story, you get to know Noah as this really sweet, wouldn’t-hurt-a-fly kinda guy, and then it turns out he’s the killer (though he’s being mind-controlled and doesn’t realise it for the longest time). It was fun to write but also really hard.

36: Last sentence you wrote

Okay, here's the last line I wrote for a story that I plan to majorly rewrite. It's called How Not To Be A Necromancer, and I can't wait to give it another shot because the characters have been in my head for, like, a decade!

If life made sense, then Ebony would be alive, after all, or I would be dead alongside her.

43: What do you do if/when characters don't follow the outline?

I let the story be for a bit. Sometimes I get an entirely new idea that fits the characters better.

44: How much research do you do?

It always starts out as “oh yeah I’ll just look this up real quick” and two hours later I have seven new tabs open with things to look up lmao

Yeah thats a novel change that could make more sense? In novel verse, most of the Wens stayed behind. They were slaughtered anyway but personal sacrifice saved not only Wei Wuxian, but her people too (or at least that was the goal). Someone can correct me, but i think there is like a 3 month gap between Wen Ning's "execution" and the nightless city massacre, and the seige of the burial mounds wherein everyone was slaughtered and Wei Wuxian (who had been going mad)

This was all cut for time and the horror elements were of course softened/censored. I adore both versions but the novel one makes more sense for Wen Quing's story line.

Yeah, absolutely, the novel version of what happened with the rest of the Wen villagers made more sense! (I mean, I said ‘unaccountably’ wrt her leading them to the Jin, but it makes perfect sense as a plot necessity - I don’t think Wei Wuxian’s throwing himself off that cliff if he still has people he needs to protect. I just can’t fathom why she would do it - or why they’d insist on it! All to protect the guy who’d saved them? I mean, maybe, but, a whole village for one guy rubs me so very wrong!) And then the Wen rising up from the blood pool later on in Wei Wuxian’s second life is one of my favorite novel-only bits. THE BOND BETWEEN A NECROMANCER AND THE DEAD HE ‘MANCES ;___;.

Anyway there’s a lot of things I like about the way Wei Wuxian dies in CQL without the siege - and by ‘a lot of things’ I mean getting to see that cliff scene, Jiang Cheng stabbing the rock!!, Lan Wangji bleeding as he holds on, Wei Wuxian’s peaceful smile falling into the abyss ;___;, etc., but there were definitely a number of plot-related circles they did not manage to square in the adaptation, both for censorship-related reasons and not, and ‘so why did the Wen villagers die’ is one. (What is the point/resonance of the ‘second siege of the Burial Mounds,’ and why the actual fuck do characters call it that out loud, when there was no first siege!, is a particularly glaring and relevant ‘nother.)

And I very much prefer Wen Qing’s story in the drama overall! Mostly because there’s so much more of it - I’m so glad that we, and also the other characters, get to know her and Wen Ning at Cloud Recesses Summer Camp, and the Baling Lake adventure, and even the Dancing Peri adventure part one, poorly constructed as it is, and Wen Chao’s Evil Indoctrination Camp, (... doesn’t ‘indoctrination’ itself sound evil? or is this just a translation issue), all before the core transfer happens.

I adore the way that she’s trying to stay out of the Wen clan’s grasping for power, the way that she doesn’t want to work for Wen Ruohan or Wen Chao, but is also unwilling to secede from the clan. *waves tiny Wen Qing/MianMian flag, lol*. It’s such a good hard internal struggle... and it fits in just perfectly with the way she’s punished for being a Wen, later. She struggled - even if vainly, remember the turtle cave - against the abuses that she saw, as much as she could, but not more, walking that line. But she wouldn’t give up her clan allegiance, it matters to her... and she wouldn’t leave her followers behind... and ultimately it ends up counting against her, as the only thing that matters.

Ben's uncle (i.e. another dream about a hot demon)

(Hi. If it’s your first time here, you can go HAHA. I’m not sure when I can focus back on my personal musings on here, but generally if you’re staying behind, I hope it’s for the memes. This is just a dream journal entry -- something I’d like to look back and laugh at in the future or, say, show to a therapist when I’ll need one lmao. Happy New Year!)

Like the actor who plays the old version of the lead guy in huling el bimbo; if not taller and darker but still theatre actor, basta real and dark like daveed but pinoy and no facial hair lmao

Ben's uncle drives me to school. Real school. With little Ben. Ben's uncle is wearing a black collared shirt with green double stripes.

I forget to bring socks and topple off the car with just slippers on and shoes in hand. He thinks I'm silly. I think he's hot. I tell myself I'll ask him out soon. I'm in high school.

I'm strangely waiting outside the lobby for class. It's afternoon. I go with Che to the gate bc I'm bored waiting. I trip over a few Christmas balls. When I get up, she's on the other side of the gate on some sort of fine ticking stuff off. I tell myself i can do that and reach for the pen. Ms. Joji is beside che with 2 familiar janitors from sisc. She politely chuckles to herself. I ask her why, and she tells me I'm kind but why care about this now. She touches my hand and carries on. I'm a bit disappointed.

It's nearly evening and i see ben's uncle's car roll around nearby but dismiss it. Bea v has a twin and draws in a small crowd of people as she loudly rants about her time at school, some story about being teased and embarrassed as she was called Bea Duh and V____. It seemed more like a pun that made sense in my dream. They were annoying but i had nothing against then so i just stayed behind the crowd and listened. They seemed like they just wanted people to listen and sympathize but it felt like a clout thing. The people seemed like they didn't like listening either but they were bored and liked being in the crowd. I giggled to myself while she was talking about something i wasn't listening to. All eyes turned to me. She asked if i had something to say. I saw ben's uncle's back from afar as he was rummaging through the back seat. I didn't think he saw me. I mindlessly started with my story about forgetting my shoes that morning and it was embarrassing. But i slipped with the fact that i wanted to ask ben's uncle out. I looked back at the crowd and saw their eyes light up. Someone asked me why. I said because he was hot. They ask laughed. I just said yeah he's hot! The crowd ate it up as i was pretending to be all the rage, making my story funnier and being more loose and confident with the way i moved. I didn't say it out loud, but thoughts of ben's uncle being attractive bc he was thoughtful, funny, kind and attentive were flooding my head. I look back at him and see he's staring right back at me with kind eyes and a wondering smile on his face. I laugh bc I'm having a good time with the crowd and i unknowingly proved a point to bea that you can turn embarrassing stories into good and still be in good company. Ben's uncle is by the gate. His elbow brushes past mine and we lock eyes. I asked if he heard all that. He asks what time my classes started and i realize oh yeah I've been waiting out here a bit alone for a class I'm not sure I'm having. We chuckle at the realization. He is admitted through sisc's electronic gate.

Search for the demon in a village that looks like manuela but with wider roads. Felt like the village in wallace and gromit. Forgot most of this part but it was heart racing and fun; i hate when i forget the adventure parts Couldn't capture the demon but found a book with some inscriptions. Had to go somewhere to find people who could help us. We were to go to a shack that same night.

I arrive with my friend to the shack. We find two guys in a room that looked a lot like lolas room now that i think about it. Guys are sleeping soundly in a bed. He tells me to take a nap first so i take a nap on a space on the right side of the bed, which was disappointing bc i wanted to help look for the demon. I am mostly asleep, but he didn't know i was still partly awake and listening and watching him decipher the book he just found. Guy in the middle wakes up and says demon is in the house, they just haven't found him yet. Informs they need to do a ritual to drive him out. They don't know how the ritual will go. They leave the room already chanting something foreign that doesn't seem to be working. I hear them enter the room beside this. September starts playing. They are chanting i think.

When the verse comes up, i hear one of them say it's not working. It was then when the legs of the guy on the left side of the bed started rising even though he was still asleep. He is wearing a grey tshirt. Hmm lol probs not important. The chorus comes and i hear the guys in the other room say that hey this isn't so bad; it's not working but they're not getting hurt from all the heavy chanting. Left side of the bed guy's arms were now rising too. "I'm not in my body" i hear the being on what looked like lolas computer chair in the shadows say. I understand he was driven out. That guy was ben's uncle. He tells me to go back to sleep. I smile and say no. So it's you, i think. He didn't have to answer. There was a bit of silence as September continued playing and the guys in the other room just sounded like they were dancing at this point.

I ask if he knew I wanted to ask him out when he passed me as he went to pick ben up from inside the school. He said yeah and smiled. I felt no shame. We both laughed. I was getting sleepier. I asked if he was the bad guy. He said yes even though I was hoping more that he'd say no. The info automatically popped in my head: he was called the necromancer. He asked why i asked, and i answered it was because nothing changed and i still wanted to go out with him. He considered it, i can feel it. He asked why, implying why i would want that knowing he's the demon, and i said bc he's hot. We both chuckled. He smiled again. Go to sleep he said, but i wouldn't budge. His human's legs and arms are still up. He won't keep his eyes off me. It seems more sincere. I'm not scared at all. Fuck, he's cute. He realizes he can't convince me. He walked over to my end of the bed and sat by my waist. We stare at each other for a bit and it feels like we've been talking for hours. I ask will you hold my hand and he takes it. His hand feels human. It even feels as nervous as one. I tell him everyone's capable of change. He looks at me with love in his eyes. The sound of September is drowned out by the feeling of time to rest your weary head clouding my senses. I don't want to wake up yet; i want to save him.

I wake up. I think there's been an earthquake.

I bite my lip.

Alright! So this was supposed to be a mind farts thing, which is why some sentences are less...sentence-like than others. Typed this out when I woke up at 5:48am. I was sad that I couldn’t get back to sleep bc I wanted to see Ben’s uncle again HAHAHAHA THE THIRST IS REAL and it’s so weird how I always just referred to him as Ben’s uncle and not??? a name?????

Okay, here are my notes possible factors:

• Gian Magdangal, but here in his role in AHEB and not anywhere else lol

I didn’t even feel the least attracted to him here; I’m not sure why Ben’s uncle took his form and why I was so eager to get in cahoots with him HAHAHAHA SORRY GIAN

• By “real school,” I mean my actual high school -- that part of the entrance was perfect in my head to the last detail. Little Ben, whoever the heck he is, was also wearing the grade school uniform.

• The last I’ve heard from Che was from an instagram post for the holidays. I’m not sure why she got in here.

• For the life of me, I don’t know what Ms. Joji and my school janitors represented. Maybe it’s my late feeling of detachment from being coined as a nice person. I can’t promise I’ll write about that here.

• I don’t know why Bea V is here either huhu. Despite what it seems like, I hold no grudges (or any real personal connection) to her, at least to my knowledge

• The action sequence in Manuela probably comes from how I’ve been going there often for the holidays and truly wanted to stay longer that I did.

• September??? My dad’s been playing songs of that era when his friends came around and when he’d have the hand at the Manuela get-togethers.

• The thirst? Yeah it comes with all the dreams now, it seems. Haha. Remember Suit Guy from the other dream? I’m convinced they’re the same character. After my closure with a real boy last month, I reverted back to talking to Angel. I don’t expect you to know who he is as I’ve never mentioned him officially in writing. It’s not like anyone’s going to read this anyway until I’m dead, but Angel’s been my imaginary friend for years. I’m not sure for how long, but perhaps it was since fallen angel tropes took over YA fiction (say, my 5th grade years?) or since I got into Supernatural. It comforts me to have a hot imaginary friend I can banter and actually fight with to talk to. I guess my fixation on tall mysterious guys (and after watching Daddy Long Legs din pala last night) just played into my metaphorical love for Angel.

thoughts about spook 65

...Although, it’s more like a stream of consciousness commentary. I try and fail not to make this too long as usual, so warning long post ahead.

Summary: Aidairo leaves us on that cliffhanger by giving us a break with tension-breaker Kou with his caring friends, more Mitsukou, and then dun dun dun they encounter a Wild Comic Relief of Universal Proportions Natsuhiko (poor fish and tarantula I hope they got back safe) and apparently Natsuhiko wants to capture No.6 like he’s the rarest pokemon of all and might have the secret key to the immortality fountain?? Will we ever know more about these mysterious man stay tuned next month. And oh yeah also No.6 always wanted to throw Aoi into the hole to rot away because he’s also a necromancer. Just great and swell here folks, don’t know how Nene and Akane are faring ~

Mr. Reyes is Morrow, I can imagine him sort of contributing to the hunt with lots of theater related things, which Christine specializes in! Book!Squip is Halliday, and there’s actually a little more about that and his relationship with Jeremy that I want to get into later.

Oh nice!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Ahhh hmm well if you like supernatural teen stories, there’s a series called Darkest Powers by Kelley Armstrong about this girl named Chloe who finds out she’s a necromancer after being sent to a “troubled teens” home, and she meets these boys named Simon and Derek who also have special abilities and then all sorts of crazy things happen! I first read it back in high school and I still love it a lot, so yeah it’s a trilogy and all of the characters are really great so! (I looooove Simon like. So much.) Check it out if you have the time, it’s a good read!

Yeah, I mentioned that up above! But Book!Squip takes over the role of Halliday, and musical Squip is Sorrento, of course~ Honestly I’d say like, probably the early 2000s, since that was when I was growing up and I can actually make references back to that time lol? I mean I love the 80s as well, just as it is in the book, but I feel as if I don’t know enough about that time period to actually. Make proper references and constantly. (I mean I could ask my parents who lived during that time too but;; haha.) Most of the stuff on here are me self-projecting, like with video games, books, and anime, that’s all me lol
