do you think that radishes or daikons have japanese signifigance?
Short answer: um, sort of? Yeah, sure!
The Japanese White Radish is a popular Japanese root vegetable. There are many types of daikon, too! The one Nene is associated with is the aokubi daikon, which I might translate like "green-headed radish."
See? Green!
This winter vegetable grows flowers, and in Japanese flower language they mean "purity" and "adaptability". The purity meaning comes from its pure, snow white flowers, while the adaptability meaning is based on how this vegetable pairs well with a variety of different dishes; an "adaptable" flavor.
I find this hanakotoba weirdly relevant to our precious Nene-tan, so I will include them, but the really important thing to know is that "daikon legs" are a real concept in Japan! Fat legs or ankles will be referred to as "daikon legs" because some lumpy or misshapen daikons evoke the image of the lower human body.
I find it all very depressing and fatphobic so I will refrain from much further comment, but I will say that I think Nene is perfect the way she is. ♡
Ooh la la~
