People that are not committed to a personal creative professional journey will ask me why I’m playing saxophone on the street or why I don’t get a real job, and on and on and on. I’m not here for that. I have a different life’s mission which is ok with me and doesn’t require anyone’s understanding or permission or acceptance. I accept the risks and rewards no matter how large or small. I will be making music and continue being creative until it’s not physically possible for me. It’s not a hobby regardless of how societal value is implied and measured. “To survive it is often necessary to fight and to fight you have to dirty yourself.”-George Orwell Creativity can be a rough and dirty enterprise. For me, making music for survival relies on the ability to make something compelling inside me appear out of nothing. Visions and thoughts moving my hands, breathing life into music until it becomes real to my ears. Sometimes it’s a real struggle, but it’s always worth it all the energy for the outcome when things fall into place. Cool stuff is happening lately. New music, warmer weather, and even occasional gigs! I’m releasing a music video next Friday April 16, for Recuerdos de la Alhambra. Which I released last month. I recorded a quick video in Idaho while I was there visiting my mom last year for a few weeks to get away from the depressing emptiness of a hollowed out, empty Manhattan. I never make music videos, but I will start making more now. I really enjoy the process. The change of scenery of Idaho was decompressing and my very talented friend Cecelia Rinn is dancing in the Alhambra video. Cecelia recently found out she was undergoing severe hearing loss which can be devastating for a dancer, but she gracefully follows the beat of her heart like no one I’ve ever seen. I have so much gratitude to artists that take time and energy to collab and share their art with me. There are so many different recordings and production projects coming up and I love them all so much. Can’t wait for you to see and hear them!
