Peaches named her sons: Astala Dylan Willow Geldof-Cohen and Phaedra Bloom Forever Cohen

Peaches Geldof's widower Thomas Cohen 'not surprised' at her death

The widower of Peaches Geldof says he was not surprised after finding her body at their home in Kent following a heroin overdose. Thomas Cohen, 26, has raised their two sons - Astala, four, and Phaedra, three - after Peaches' death on 7 April, 2014. Giving a rare interview to German TV station ProSieben, he said his children have now been alive for longer than they knew their mother. In the interview, reported by German newspaper Bild, he described how just one hour after finding her body he had to focus on giving the two boys their lunch. He said: "In retrospect, I think she thought the children would close the gap. But that just does not work.

Heroin is a drug that makes you feel something better than life. This is the terrible thing: you are feeding your body with something that will kill you. When I found her, I was not surprised. I thought to myself at that moment 'yes of course - you had to do that'.

Mr Cohen, former frontman for the band S.C.U.M, told the newspaper he shows his children pictures of Peaches every few weeks so they won't forget her. He said the routine of looking after the two boys has helped him deal with his grief, and said he knows learning about their mother's death will be hard for the children when they are teenagers. He added: "There is always hope, even in the greatest grief. You must not let yourself be eaten by grief or transfer it to your children. "It takes a while, but now we can look forward." Peaches' mother, Paula Yates, also died from a heroin overdose in 2000 aged 41.

Peaches Geldof, RIP

Absolutely gutted to hear that Peaches Geldof has died. Usually I'm not affected by the deaths of people I didn't know in person, but she has been one of my biggest inspirations the past year or so, recovery-wise and generally.

I followed her on instagram and seeing the endless posts of her gorgeous babies and how happy they were made me even more excited to have children in the future, and I'd always based her as the mother I'd like to be like. She was always so positive and cheerful on her posts and that for me was a massive influence, I often thought about how she'd managed to turn her life around from being involved with drink, drugs and extreme emotions to settling down and becoming a successful woman and a loving mother/wife, and hoped I could turn myself around defeat my depression too.

Not only that, she was just so naturally beautiful. She didn't strive to be stick thin and constantly what the media wanted, she was just herself. Despite being in the public eye she didn't feel the need to "dress up" for her instagram, often taking her photos with no makeup and "lazy day" clothes, and was happy to get her body out on the beach despite it not being society's idea of perfection. I think personally that's incredibly brave for any girl, let alone someone who constantly faced public attention. The fact that she could just be her natural self and not worry about it was something that helped me not be so self concious.

Most people probably think I sound ridiculous, but her positivity and blatant absolute love for her family was something I looked up to constantly, and has influenced a lot of my recovery so far.

I can only hope her family find the strength to get through this, especially her husband Thomas Cohen who's been left to raise their two children (who happen to look the absolute spit of her) and hope Astala and Phaedra are brought up remembering how much she loved them and what a great woman she was.

Absolutely heart broken, RIP Peaches Honeyblossom Geldof
