A Message From The Angel Of The Lord … Only At This Point Will Things Change! Click Now
Tumblr media
Dear Child of God, It is half past midnight, London time.  I’ve just come from ministering and the anointing of God is still so fresh. In today’s service, there was a powerful testimony from one man who received prayer during Day 2 of the Feast of Unleavened Bread and God delivered him from an evil spirit that has been riding on his body for many years. Today, he came back full of joy and happiness to testify that for the first time in many years, he slept a good night sleep. And that every prophecy that I gave him yesterday was true. As I laid my hands on him and prayed for him, the power of God instantly delivered him from this evil beast that has been riding on his body, making him sick, tired, frustrated and broke.  Right now I feel in my spirit that I need to pray for you. The angel of the Lord has just revealed to me that something must become different in your life. There is no way you can keep going on in the same way. Actually right now, as I speak to you, am travelling in the spirit. And ahead of us, I saw an angel holding a sign saying that there must be a change.  I feel in my spirit there are many areas in your life that will need a change. Are you ready to obey God if I tell you where the change is needed? If that is so, at the end of this prophecy, at the end of this mail, I will give you clear instructions that you should follow and finalise in the next four hours.  I will make a distinction between my people and your people. This sign will occur tomorrow.’” (Exodus 8:23) Just like the children of Israel, I saw a date and a time in the spirit. And it was written, “turning point”. Actually, as I speak to you now it is already happening. Tomorrow God is about to put a distinction between you and your enemies; between you and your family between you and your neighbours; between you and your competitors; between you and everyone else.  Actually as I speak to you right now, the anointing of God is going to manifest itself in such a way that it will create a new problem in your life.  I saw in my spirit somebody has been laughing at you and undermining you. Actually this person, don’t consider it to be anything, despite of every gift that you have.  I also saw some evil forces that have been used to water down every opportunity and every favour that comes on your way.  Because of what God is about to do in your life, these people are not going to be happy at all. The Lord has told me, because of what is about to happen, they will try harder to frustrate you, to confuse you, to attack you. But as you follow the instruction I will give you, the Lord says that in your camp, in your finances, in your family, in your investments, in your future, THERE SHALL BE SAFETY. The angel of the Lord has told me that you must prepare, that God is about to put and pour the anointing of distinction in your life like never before. This anointing is going to bring the difference between you and that enemy. Between you and all the trouble maker. Between you and all people that have been fighting you, frustrating you, this anointing is so strong that it is going to give you an advantage above everybody else. Are you ready to walk into this anointing? If you are ready, I am ready. Let’s come in agreement. So if you are ready, I need you to write five key areas where you want God to pour this anointing in your life.  I need you to prepare a special offering according to Ephesians 3:20 of £32 that God is going to do exceedingly and abundantly above whatsoever you ask. Child of God, I need you to move quickly, I feel in my spirit that you can even sow a double portion of £64.  But the most important thing, give whatsoever you can afford now, and watch God bless you beyond measure.  As soon as I receive your prayer request plus your special offering, I will print them out, spread them before God, put them on the altar until the sunset. And watch God resurrect all your favours. Watch God resurrect all your breakthroughs.  Actually after this anointing, you will walk high and mighty in the land. Act now, be quick, because I have been receiving a lot of prayer requests but I want yours to be among the numbers. Because you are going to the top.    CLICK HERE TO  SUBMIT YOUR PRAYER AGREEMENT FORM     Remember To Join Me Daily at 7PM UK Time!   CALL US 24/7 +44 207 738 3668 (UK) +1 347 708 1449 (USA)   13 POWERFUL DECLARATIONS TO ACTIVATE THE ANOINTING OF DIVINE DISTINCTION OVER YOUR LIFE  Scripture Genesis Exodus 12:8-11 & Exodus 8:23 (Remember you can always edit/fill in certain prayer points to apply to your personal life) - Jehovah God,  let there be a distinction in my life in the name of Jesus. - Jehovah God, let there be a distinction in my career/business in the name Jesus. - Jehovah God, let there be a distinction in my finances in the name of Jesus. - Jehovah God, let there be a distinction in my children’s lives in the name Jesus. - Jehovah God, let there be a distinction in my academic in the name of Jesus. - Jehovah God, let there be a distinction in my spiritual calling in the name of Jesus. - I believe I receive divine distinction in my health in the name of Jesus. - I believe I receive divine distinction in my working place in the name of Jesus. - I believe I receive divine distinction in my serving in the name of Jesus. - I believe I receive divine distinction in my relationship/marriage in the name of Jesus. - I believe I receive divine distinction over my property investments in the name of Jesus. - I bel I believe I receive divine distinction over my destiny in the name of Jesus. - I believe I receive divine distinction over my Church in the name of Jesus.   As promised here are the special instructions you need to observe until the evening of April 12. You are to remove all leaven from your house and you are to eat unleavened bread daily for 8 days (Passover & The Feast Of Unleavened Bread). CLEANING OUT THE LEAVEN ‘Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall remove(cause to cease) leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.  ‘On the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and another holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten by every person, that alone may be prepared by you. 17 ‘You shall also observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a permanent ordinance. ‘In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. 19 ‘Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened, that person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is an alien or a native of the land. ‘You shall not eat anything leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.’ ” (Exodus 12:15–20) So what do we need to rid our homes of? We must clean out everything that can cause dough to rise, or anything that contains such an ingredient. That would include: yeast, baking powder, sodium bicarbonate (Baking soda), and most baked goods; bread, cereal, cookies, biscuits, cakes, doughnuts and the like. Many products contain yeast extract; those must also go. If you are unsure, just check the list of ingredients on the product. PLEASE NOTE: The following are all examples of leaven and need to be removed from your house. Yeast Yeast Extract Barley Malt Extract (most cereals have this in it, rice krispies is one of the few that is okay to eat) Baking Power Baking Soda Raising Agent (If it mentions this then you need to remove it) And don’t just put them aside in a cupboard or storage until after the seven days. You must remove them completely from your house (remove them from your house, take them to the garbage dump, or you can also donate/give them to an unbeliever) For God said we are to remove all leaven from our homes (Ex 12 :15), no leaven is to be found in our dwellings (Ex 12:20) or within our borders (Ex 13 :7) Here are Examples of Unleavened Bread that you can eat during the next 8 days  Matzo – Jewish flat bread Tortilla – Mesoamerican/Mexican flat bread Roti/Chapati/Paratha (Please note: Naan contains yeast so it is not allowed) Kitcha or Qitta - Ethiopian type of flat bread used mainly in the traditional fit-fit or chechebsa dish. Darkness/Poison
This is part of the ‘Doorways’ series (aka Danny is an eldritch abomination and Jack and Maddie have no normal friends so they decide to go on a road trip to make sure none of their friends from college have become semi-satanic soul-eating holes in reality AU).
AO3 link to series.
.
.
.
The Fenton Ghost Assault Vehicle did not have the smoothest ride in the world, but Danny was used to it.  Also, he had driven the Specter Speeder through the Carnivorous Canyon and ridden in Johnny 13’s sidecar.
Point being, if his parents didn’t want him to fall asleep, they should have told him.  Or, at least, not dragged him out of bed at four thirty in the morning (both to get an early start and to avoid the reporters and other undesirables who had taken to circling Fentonworks like vultures).
Look.  Danny might have been an unspeakable eldritch horror, a superhero, and one of the richest human beings on the face of the Earth, but he was also a teenager.  Not to mention sleep deprived.
Besides, Mom and Dad had said their next Paranormal Research Club friend was miles and miles away.  They wouldn’t reach his town until much later in the day.  Danny had plenty of time to sleep safely.
Which is why he was so disgruntled when Dad shook him awake with a cheery “We’re here!”
“Where’s here?” asked Danny, rubbing his eyes and noting sadly how far away his portal back in Amity Park was.
“Breakfast,” said Jazz, voice heavy with sleep.  Apparently, he wasn’t the only one trying to take advantage.
“’Kay,” said Danny, briefly wrestling with the seatbelt.  He caught Mom staring as he opened the door.  “What?” he asked frowning.
“Nothing,” she said, unconvincingly.
Whatever.  Danny could figure it out later, when he was more awake.  He jumped to the ground.
“I think you guys will really like it here!” said Dad, waving at the building.  “The food’s great!  An old friend owns the place.  Your mom and I used to come here all the time before you were born, when we were commuting between Amity and Chicago.”
Danny nodded along, staring up at the neon sign that read ‘Red Flower Dinner.’  Then his brain caught up, and he slowly turned his head to look at Dad.
“’Old friend,’” he said.  “What do you mean old friend?”
Dad blinked at him, uncomprehending.  Jazz came to his rescue.
“Dad, we’re doing this whole trip because all of your old friends are lunatics,” she explained.
“They’re not!” said Dad, defensively.  “Besides, Marianne was never part of our club.  She didn’t even go to U of M.”
“She was a waitress at our favorite hangout,” explained Mom.  “She got enough saved to buy this restaurant around the time we graduated.  She’s few years older than us.”
“Saved?  I thought a relative died, and she got an inheritance?” asked Dad.
Danny groaned.  “Do you not see how suspicious that is?”
“Come on, Danno!  We can have normal friends.”
“No, you can’t.  If a normal thing ever interacts with our family in any way, it immediately becomes abnormal simply because of how unlikely it is for anything like that to happen.”  He dug the heels of his hands into his eyes until he saw stars.
“He’s got a point,” said Jazz.  “Maybe we could go to a different dinner?”
“But,” said Dad, “she makes the best breakfast. And she really is normal.  She wasn’t involved in any ghost stuff.”
“Are you really telling me you never talked to her about ghost stuff at all?” asked Danny, suspiciously.
“Well, we did,” said Dad.  “But we talk to everyone about ghost stuff.”
“Dad…”
Dad inhaled and heaved a huge sigh, shoulders sagging.  “Alright, Danno.  I get what you’re saying.  We can go somewhere else…  Even if it won’t be as good.”
Okay.  Now Danny felt bad.
Unfair.
“Well,” he said.  “I guess we could check and make sure she’s not, you know, haunted or anything.  That’s why we’re doing this, I guess.”
Dad brightened immediately, and Danny had to grab the back of his shirt to keep him from running in.
“But remember, if I say we have to go, we have to go.  That’s the deal.”
Dad nodded.  Danny let go.   He sighed as Dad disappeared into the building.
“Is the food really that good?” asked Danny.
“Marianne grows a lot of her own herbs,” offered Mom with a shrug.  “Everything she makes is at least decent.  But, well,” she grimaced as she held the door open for her children. “The reason we liked her so much was that she always seemed interested in our research.  We liked talking to someone who took us seriously.”
“Wonderful,” deadpanned Jazz.
The décor inside the dinner was bright red and floral.  The seats and benches were upholstered in shiny, dyed leather.  A long glass counter displayed pies and other desserts under bright lights.  The air was warm and smelled faintly of cherries.  A radio station played quietly in the background, blurring the chatter of the other guests.
Danny rubbed his eyes again.  Ugh.  He was tired. Sleeping in a moving vehicle was a special kind of unrestful.  Heh. Unrestful dead.  More like unrested dead.  That was him.
(Someday, he was going to track down the first person to say, ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead,’ and give them a stern talking to.)
“Marianne!” boomed Dad, waving at someone in the kitchen behind the order window.
There was a gasp.  “Jack Fenton!  Is that you?” A woman with greying brown curls leaned out, then ducked away briefly before reappearing through a door.  “I haven’t seen you in years!”  She threw her arms out, hugging first Dad and then Mom.
Danny bristled at the perceived threat to his parents but managed to control himself.  This was nothing.  Everything was fine.  Just because every one of his parents’ friends so far had something weird and potentially fatal going on so far, it didn’t give him the right to police their every interaction with other human beings.
“Are these your kids?” asked Marianne, excitedly. “Oh, my goodness, you must be Jazz, and you’re Danny?  I’ve only seen you in pictures, but you’ve grown so much.  You’ll be as tall as your dad in no time.”
“Hope so,” said Danny, knowing there was no chance of that happening whatsoever.
Not with his human body, anyway.
“I hope we’ll get a chance to talk,” she continued, “but I have things on the stove.  Why don’t you go ahead and find a seat?  We’ll get to you soon.”
“Looking forward to it, Marianne!” said Dad, waving again.
“Is she alright?” asked Mom quietly as they slid into a corner booth.
Danny wound up in between Mom and Jazz, which was good, because Dad tended to elbow whoever he was sitting by.  In this case, Mom, who could take it.
“I think so?” He rubbed his eyes.  “But I can’t just sense everything. Don’t forget that.”
“Stop rubbing your eyes,” said Mom.
“They’re itchy,” said Danny.  “I think I got some sleep sand in them or something.”
Mom’s expression softened.  Danny blinked at it and wondered when he’d gotten so used to seeing an edge of suspicion on her face.
“It could be allergies,” she said.  “It’s that time of year.  Or it could be that you keep rubbing them.”  She tugged his hands away from his face.  “Either way, it isn’t healthy to keep touching your eyes, sweetie.”
It wasn’t that she didn’t have a point, but Danny wasn’t entirely sure he could get sick.  Not anymore.  Maybe if he was far enough away from Amity Park, spread thin enough between his two major physical manifestations…  If his body was human enough…  Maybe figuring that out could be a fun family bonding experience.  Not.
He yawned.  He wanted to go back to sleep.  Being in here, with the warm scented air and not-quite-white background noise, only made slumber more inviting.
Still.  His family’s ability to protect themselves was lacking.  Danny at least had to stay conscious in case Marianne decided to channel the spirit of Locusta or something.  Ancients, wouldn’t that be typical?
A waiter came, introduced themself, and handed out menus.  Danny failed to process most of the waiter’s prepared speech, and his eyes drifted down to the menu.
It seemed… normal, for lack of a better word. Slightly worn, a couple stains on the paper behind the plastic protector.  The pages had a border of blotchy red flowers.  The items were all typical breakfast foods.  Nothing jumped out at him.
He wasn’t even hungry.  Actually, if he thought about it, he was a little nauseated. Sometimes that happened when he didn’t eat for a while, though, so maybe he was hungry, after all?
Why did bodies have to be so complicated?
“What are you getting?” asked Jazz, who was morally unable to make a food order until she’d taken a poll.
“I don’t know,” said Danny, folding his arms on the table and letting his head rest on them.  “I’ll probably just get whatever you’re getting.”
Jazz frowned at him and repeated the question to their parents.
The waiter came back after a few minutes.
“I’ll have the Variety Breakfast!” said Dad, excitedly.
“The number five, please,” said Maddie. “Sausage links, not bacon.”
“Um,” said Jazz.  “How about the Red Flower Special?”
“Excellent choice,” said the waiter, smiling. “Marianne grows all the seasonings for that herself, and the presentation is lovely.”
“I mean, it’s pancakes, right?” asked Jazz, nervously.
“It is, it is.  What would you like for your side?”  It took just a few seconds for the waiter to get the rest of Jazz’s order, then they turned to Danny.  “And what are you having today?”
“Same as her,” said Danny, waving in Jazz’s general direction.
“Good choice, good choice,” said the waiter.  “We’ll be back soon!”
“Thanks!” said Dad.  He reached over Mom to pat Danny on the shoulder.  “See?  This is just a completely normal restaurant.”
“Mhm,” said Danny, dubiously.  He’d believe it when he got out of here with his questionably mortal coil and squishy, murderable human family intact.
Okay.  Maybe he was being a bit overdramatic, now.  Was it because he was too far from the Amity portal?  He’d been sure it wouldn’t significantly affect him, though. It wasn’t as if physical distance meant much in this context.  Sure, he wasn’t on his home turf, but still…
Of course, he was a teenager. Teenagers were supposed to be overdramatic.  At least, that’s what he’d heard.  Being a teenager didn’t come with a manual any more than being a half-ghost superhero did, quirky TV shows about middle school notwithstanding.
Yeah.  That sounded reasonable.  He was a teenager who’d been woken early, and it was still early, and that meant the world was terrible.  Excellent math.
He sipped at the water the waiter had left him, pleased with himself.
Which is when his and Jazz’s orders arrived. Danny caught a glimpse of red on him plate, abruptly recognized the prickling feeling in his eyes, expelled the water he was drinking from his nose, and propelled himself sideways across Mom and Dad and out of the booth.
“Ah!” he said, pointing at the red-tinted pancakes and the pretty little flowers on top.
The plating really was nice.  Just like the waiter said.
The whole dinner was staring at him.
“He’s got allergies,” explained Jazz, her voice just a little too high pitched.  “Just—Really horrible allergies.  To flowers like this.”
“Blood blossoms,” said Danny.  He was reasonably certain the things wouldn’t kill him, he wasn’t sure that anything short of something like Gula could kill him, but every encounter he had with them had been painful beyond belief, and he doubted that their being cooked would help very much with that.
“Right.  Blood blossoms.  The name always slips by me…  Haha.”
“Oh my gosh,” said Marianne, rushing out of the kitchen.  “I am so sorry.  I didn’t know anyone was allergic to them!  It’s just, you guys always talked about how they were lucky, and they got rid of bad spirits, so I thought I’d incorporate them, and they’re red, which is also lucky, and they taste so good—”
“Marianne,” said Mom, poking at one of the flowers, “where did you even get these?  I thought they were extinct.”
“Oh,” said Marianne, “my uncle, the one who died, well I guess they’re all dead, now, but…  The one who left me enough to buy the dinner?  He worked in seed conservation.  I got his personal collection.”  She sniffed, apparently on the edge of tears.
“Ah,” said Mom, glancing at Danny.  “That’s interesting.  Um.”  She slid out of the booth.  “I’m really sorry, Marianne, but,” she gestured in Danny’s direction.  “Food allergies.”
“He’s had breakouts just from being around them, before,” added Jazz, helpfully.
“Oh, no, no, I understand.  Um.  One second, let me give you my number, I don’t want to fall out of contact again, oh, dear.  Tracy! Give me your notepad!”
It took several more minutes for all the Fentons to make their way back outside, most of which Danny spent staring into the dinner through the large front windows, keeping an eye on his family. Maybe he didn’t have ‘allergies’ in the typical sense but being around blood blossoms was making his skin itch and prickle unpleasantly.
Eventually, however, after Dad had shoved most of his order down his throat in a single go, they all got back into the GAV.
“Oh. My. Gosh,” said Jazz.  “You two have no normal friends.”

Fictober 2020, Day 08
Prompt: “i’m not doing that again” Fandom: Ikemen Sengoku Feat: Mitsuhide Akechi Audience/Tags: general / none apply
I do not believe in luck.
It demeaned our efforts. Belittled the work put into moving the pieces of the board into the right places to spring into action at precise moments. An ally is an ally only because of effort and work – whether it entailed persuasion or bribery or sheer force of will – it did not matter. An opportunity becomes manifest on because of the same principles. And victory is, more often than not, simply preparation born fruit.
Lord Nobunaga may call upon luck as if it were a weapon, something he could wield on a whim, but only precisely because he was Lord Nobunaga. He is allowed such by the gods. The rest of us do not have that.
I am not complaining about Lord Nobunga’s luck. Far from it. His luck is the Oda’s luck, and in turn mine to take advantage of. And even our Lord is not so foolish to say that our victories so far have been only that. He knows how much Hideyoshi and I have toiled for them; right and left hand moving so he could cleave down our enemies just a little bit easier, so he could stampede through the warring states just with a little less opposition.
No, I am not complaining about Lord Nobunaga’s luck.
What I am saying, without bias whatsoever, is that when six Takeda soldiers opened the dungeon doors and pushed a bruised and muddied Hideyoshi Toyotomi into my cell to join me, that was luck.
The best for them.
The worst for me.
A bleeding lip, a bruise on one cheek, and a dirty bandage wrapping around what looked like the wound I had seen Kenshin dealt him when all this had started. Apart from that, Hideyoshi looked none the worse for wear – which were good tidings of course – but my plan had been constructed with Hideyoshi leading the vanguard to this very castle like a force of nature. Not with Hideyoshi being placed in said castle’s dungeons with me.
I am rarely rendered speechless but the sight of him before me and not racing to deliver very important intel to Lord Nobunaga was quite the shock. Which quickly gave way to frustration.
“So,” I started, unable to separate my feelings from my voice.
Hideyoshi refused to look me in the eye. A first, really. Hideyoshi had never missed an opportunity to stare me down before. He sat down on the only cot and began re-bandaging his wound as if he were alone in the cell.
I leaned back against the opposite wall. “Found it difficult to retreat without me in tow again?”
Hideyoshi had done this before. Too many times, in fact. Foiling my plans, (usually unknowingly, sometimes deliberately) because he had thought it to be for our best interest that he came charging back to rescue me when I had very clearly explained I could manage it on my own. I had always thought it was because we were both generals that Hideyoshi refused to relent to my words even in the battlefield. I had realized, as the event repeated itself too often for my taste, that it all had been because he was worried.
Worried.
Hideyoshi respected me as a warlord. He just did not trust me enough to wield my gun and my own sword.
“Is your silence your admission to the charges against you?”
“Lay it off, Mitsuhide,” Hideyoshi mumbled.
“Why, Hideyoshi, I almost thought they’d cut your tongue,” I answered, not without venom. “Did you even listen to me when I explained why you needed to go back? Or did you conveniently forget again?”
“I did.”
“To which? Conveniently forgetting?”
“Gods damn you – I always listen to you.”
“Then why are you here?”
“You say that like I waltzed into this dungeon on purpose!” Hideyoshi scowled, gesturing to himself. “I did listen. I did go and run as you planned,” then in a lower breath, “Even if it was a very stupid plan.”
“It was so the Takeda would not advance – as they probably already have with you here,” I snapped. “You’re the one they need out there. Not me.”
“You say that as if you don’t matter in the battlefield.”
“Any other day I would have preened at this compliment,” I said. “But the point has always been you’re better liked by them which makes your presence more invaluable than mine.” I pinched the bridge of my nose. My frustration was at the tipping point but even at my best I doubted I could land a blow on Hideyoshi. “You don’t need me there. They need you.”
Hideyoshi visibly stiffened, stared at me as if he had something to say, but then returned all his concentration to wrapping the dirty bandage around his arm. At least it looked like the wound was no longer bleeding. Or infected. I would have offered my own haori to be shredded for the purpose but I had lost it somewhere between our burning base camp and being dragged into enemy lands.
A moment passed. Several. And still, I could not let my anger go. I had taken a gamble. Hideyoshi was meant to benefit from it. And yet here he was with me.
“Must have been hard to just keep running.” I added, sarcasm dripping from my words. “To just keep moving as I told you. Repeatedly.”
Hideyoshi exhaled. Loudly. And glared.
I glared back.
“The rains didn’t stop,” Hideyoshi finally said. “They took us by surprise the day after, by the lake.”
I could picture the theatre’s map as clearly as if it were laid out in-between us. What he told me only frustrated me more. “I told you to use the mountain roads.”
“Blocked.” Hideyoshi offered a weak shrug. “And what roads there were available were already too dangerous given the rain.”
“The dirt roads, then?”
“Blocked.”
“The village we scouted?”
“Burned. To the ground.”
I narrowed my eyes. “They hounded you.” A statement, because it was apparent.
“Persistently.” Hideyoshi shook his head. “I know those forests like the back of my hand but they had us at every turn. It was as if they had scouts just waiting for the horses to appear. I lost ten men just by sending them ahead to clear the path.”
I pressed my lips together, letting the frustration and anger melt away as Hideyoshi continued to tell me a detailed account of what had happened to him since I had purposely let myself be captured to secure their escape.
Luck, I thought. Useugi were lucky.
Or –
Or, they were, very obviously, communicating with someone who knew. Who could tell them where Hideyoshi was, where he had been, where he would be headed. As the thought came to me, I gave Hideyoshi a look. Wondered if he would be able to tell. Wondered if I wanted him to come to terms to it on his own.
From the dark look he was giving me, he seemed to be thinking the same thing.
Another wave of anger passed through me as a series of what ifs and could haves raced for my attention. I would eventually find the source of this inconvenience, but only eventually. Not now, locked up as we were in the deepest pits of Kasugayama territory.
As I waved away the possibilities in my head, I could not help myself but say, “Ten men and you didn’t even manage to send the spy to die?”
Hideyoshi stared at the ground again.
I had plenty more barbed quips, plenty more to berate Hideyoshi with all night long if it meant at least some of my own exasperation could be eased. However, a forlorn look had come over Hideyoshi, a heaviness around his shoulders as he leaned on his good arm.
So I stopped.
It was a look I rarely saw on him; a look that I had often prayed he would not have to carry more than was necessary.
“They’re good, I will give them that,” I then said, thinking out loud. When I prayed for silence the next time I would be with Hideyoshi, I had not meant it would be when he looked so distraught. “Having worked so long in your House and not once raising suspicion.”
“I trusted those men with my life,” Hideyoshi’s voice was barely a whisper.
I did not believe in luck.
But I did believe in how its absence often hurt. And those who have turned coats will be made to experience that hurt. “We will deal with them,” I promised him.
Hideyoshi nodded, but his thoughts seemed so far away.
I had expected anger. I had expected resentment. I had expected something akin to wildfire when I imagined Hideyoshi dealing with the thought of betrayal from his own men.
Yet there was none of that and I could not blame him for his apparent shock. Out of all of us, Hideyoshi had always been the most trusting, despite his overprotectiveness and zealousness. A trait everyone in Oda may outwardly spurn – his nagging being the prime target – but it endeared him to all. You cannot find a soul Hideyoshi has not charmed, in a way.
I realized I did not like seeing that side of him chipped away.
“I’m not doing that again,” Hideyoshi suddenly then said.
I rose from my thoughts. “Following my orders? You’ve never really followed through, honestly.”
“Leaving you behind.” Hideyoshi was resolute. “Not when even the men we’ve fought with all these times could turn on us like that. You need someone to watch your back.”
My answer was almost a scoff. “Are we forgetting a tiny but very important detail here?” I gestured at myself.
“I know exactly who you are, which is why I’m never leaving you alone from now on.” He answered firmly, as if my response had settled a point with himself. I did my best not to pry even as a ghost of a smile graced Hideyoshi’s lips. From where I sat, it almost looked a challenge. “Mark my words, Mitsuhide. You’re not leaving this dungeon without me.”
I shrugged.
Silence again. There was only so much a pair of prisoners could talk about in a cell without being overheard. The walls had ears, even when pairs of feet could not be seen standing guard.
And so, Hideyoshi and I sat, contemplating. Him, thinking whatever thoughts he have on betrayal so callously revealed. I, with my own thoughts of revenge for him, for us, for the Oda, counting down the hours all the while.
My thoughts drifted to our allies. I thought of Kyubei, whom I had instructed to go to Lord Nobunaga should Hideyoshi fail to, with the ill news. I thought of how Ieyasu would probably react at the news, him rolling his eyes and Mitsunari offering a quip that would not help. I thought of how Masamune would be eager to take over the vanguard to rescue us. I thought of our dear chatelaine and how they would be worried I had missed the mark.
By the time Hideyoshi finally managed to sleep, the moon’s light was long gone. When I was certain he would not stir awake, I allowed myself to finally look at him again.
Hideyoshi may not have suspected betrayal before this, not from his own people, but I watched for it in every turn, every corner, from every smile from someone’s lips, from every blade seemingly sheathed. I was the one who had been tasked the prune the hedges from unwanted thorns. I was the flame to burn the moths. Yet it had been my own reliance on Hideyoshi’s good senses and instincts that had led to this.
I should have watched better. I should have protected him better.
Next time, I will.

The Consequences of Keeping Secrets
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur Pendragon
Warnings: None II Wordcount: 1297 II Ao3
Summary: If only Merlin would understand why Arthur is so angry; if only Arthur could bring himself to tell him.
Or: Sometimes it's easier to simply say what's bothering you, but it's also the hardest thing in the world. At least if you're Arthur Pendragon. Thankfully, Merlin loves him anyway.
*
It’s threatening to become a familiar scene; Arthur and Merlin standing opposite each other in Arthur’s chamber, shouting at each other with mounting frustration building with each secret that gets revealed.
They’ve been at it for weeks, unravelling years of events Arthur had no clue were happening, and he knows it’s not completely fair, that he lets his emotions get the better of him, but Merlin just doesn’t seem to understand, while Arthur is unable to put into words why it’s not the magic that’s bothering him, nor a lack of understanding why Merlin didn’t tell him, but all the things that actually entails.
“You had no right!” Arthur’s just hurling at Merlin, his fist clenching at his sides as he tries to keep himself from crossing the distance to shake the stubborn idiot, to force him to see sense.
Not that it would help, he knows.
Merlin scoffs, a muscle in his jaw jumping. “And what should I have done? Offering the life of someone else?”
A part of Arthur, the selfish, spoiled one, wants to answer this with a resounding yes. The, thankfully larger, more rational side of himself, the one that tries to keep a grip on his temper and overwhelming emotions, forces him to close his eyes for a moment to gather his thoughts.
Obviously inclined to press his advantage, Merlin goes on, his voice tense and rough. “Not to mention that I survived, didn’t I? Not only I, but my mother and Gaius as well, and Nimueh is long dead – “
“Damn it, that’s not the bloody point!” Arthur shouts, fisting one hand into his air as his voice fills the space between them, feeling so much larger than it actually is. “You thought you were going to die, and you didn’t even tell me! You just – just – you didn’t even have the decency to let me decide if I wanted you to trade your life for mine, you made all these decisions – “
“I’m asking you again,” Merlin interrupts, and his voice is much lower now, calm in a way that should make Arthur wary if he wasn’t so riled up himself. “What else was I supposed to do? You keep complaining that I made these decisions without consulting your royal pratness, but do you honestly want me to believe that you wouldn’t have chopped my head off back then?”
Arthur takes a step back at that, the accusation feeling like a physical blow; maybe the worst thing is that he’s not completely sure of the answer himself. Damn him if he’s going to admit that, though. “Then you simply shouldn’t have done anything!”
“Are you kidding me?” Merlin has the audacity to laugh at that, the sound mirthless and all wrong. It makes Arthur’s skin crawl. “You’re the Once and Future King – “
“Oh by the gods, don’t start with your whole bloody destiny-nonsense again!” Arthur snarls, the just receding fury flaring back to life in an instant. “I don’t care what some blasted dragon said, this is about you being far too fucking willing to give your life for mine!”
It takes a moment to comprehend what he just said, only the confused frown overtaking the anger in Merlin’s face making him reconsider his words, and he winces at the blunt admission.
Unfortunately, the shock doesn’t seem to placate Merlin all that much. “If you expect me to apologise for saving your life, we’re literally going to fight until the day you die because I don’t bloody care how much it’s bothering you, I’m not going to stop!”
“You very well will! I’m your king, and – “
“What,” Merlin laughs, and alright, he can admit that it’s a weak argument, even for him. “You think after years of this, that’s what going to stop me? You obviously know me even less than I thought.”
“No surprise there,” Arthur snaps back, words tumbling out of him without any filter whatsoever. Merlin always had the ability to make him lose any restraint, and recently, it manifests in the worst way possible.
Merlin winces slightly but quickly covers it with a glare. His hands are trembling at his side, and there’s a new edge to his agitation now, the line between frustration and desperation blurring. “For fuck’s sake, why is it so hard for you to say thank you for once in your life? Do you have any idea how hard it was? Do you think I enjoyed keeping all that from you, having to make decisions that monumental? I never once asked for this, but I did it anyway! I lost so many people, had to hide myself from everyone important to me, and now you – you – “
He breaks off there and squeezes his eyes shut, and even with the distance between them, Arthur can hear the erratic rhythm of his breathing. God, but he is so tired of this, all the shouting and going in circles, of being unable to keep his mouth shut and driving them deeper into madness with each passing day.
Sometimes he wishes he had never asked Merlin to tell him everything; that he wouldn’t be too proud to insist that they stop doing this, going over all the parts of his life he never knew of.
His shoulders sag and he rubs a hand over his face. “You shouldn’t have had to,” he says quietly, and when Merlin opens his mouth to argue, he quickly raises a hand to stop him. “I know – you did have to, and that’s – that’s exactly my point.”
He swallows against the lump that lodged itself firmly in his throat, that infuriating instinct to never admit his feelings screaming at him to not do this.
“God, Merlin – all those years, and you had to do all of it alone. All those decisions and consequences, the fear for your own life, and still you’re so – so unbelievably good in spite of everything. You shouldn’t have had to bear all of this on your own.” He closes his eyes and turns his head away, feeling too raw and exposed to keep looking at the sudden confusion and shock in Merlin’s eyes. “I’m just – I’m sorry, okay? I wish I could’ve been there for you, that you could’ve – “
Warm hands on his shoulders cut him off, and it’s a testament to how wrung out he is that he didn’t even notice Merlin crossing the distance between them.
“You’re such an idiot,” Merlin whispers, his fingers digging into Arthur’s skin, and then he pulls him closer, lips pressing harshly against Arthur’s. There’s no finesse to the kiss, all teeth and hot breath and scrambling hands, but it’s easily the best thing Arthur has felt in a long time.
All the tension melts from him and he tangles his fingers into Merlin’s hair, pouring all the things he’s unable to say out loud into the kiss, hoping that it will be enough.
Merlin’s tongue brushes against his bottom lip and Arthur shudders, instinctively trying to press closer just as Merlin draws back the tiniest bit. “You infuriating, maddening, brilliant man, I can’t believe you,” he whispers against Arthur’s mouth before trailing his lips over his cheeks, his temples, his forehead.
Arthur can do nothing but cling to him, suddenly so very exhausted, and he lets his head drop to Merlin’s shoulders. “We should’ve tried this as a mediation technique weeks ago.”
“Or you could’ve just told me what’s actually bothering you,” Merlin mutters, but there’s an unmistakable fondness to his voice that Arthur hasn’t heard in much too long.
Still, he bites the spot behind Merlin’s ear in retaliation and hides his grin in the crook of his neck. “Shut up, and take me to bed, oh great warlock.”
For once in his life, Merlin does as he’s told.

Rules of Engagement: Chapter Three
Link to Masterpost
Prince Dorian arrived in Orynth four days later, three days before her birthday, and Aelin greeted him with a smile. She had donned a simple gown of Terrasen green for the occasion, and a circlet of twisted golden strands kept her loose hair from falling into her face. “Prince Dorian, it’s an honor to meet again after so long,” she said in welcome. “I thank you for taking the journey from Adarlan to celebrate with us.”
Dorian answered her smile with an easy grin of his own, sapphire eyes sparkling against dark curls. “The journey was easy enough, and the pleasure is mine,” he said. “And it is good to meet you again, after… what, almost eleven years, now?”
“A long time, indeed,” Aelin replied. “I do hope your visit will give us time to become reacquainted with one another.”
“As do I,” he smiled. “Perhaps you could reacquaint me with the castle grounds, if you have the time?”
Aelin glanced to her right, where Regent Darrow stood, and he nodded his approval. “I certainly have the time,” she replied. “Are you tired from your journey? Should we meet at a later time?”
“If I’m being honest, your company would likely be far more relaxing than unpacking my things,” the prince grinned, offering her his arm.
Aelin laughed softly and stepped up to him, gracefully slipping her hand into the crook of his elbow and leading him away from the throne room. “Were you hoping for a tour of the grounds, or the common areas of the castle?” she asked.
Dorian laughed, the sound a rich baritone that filled the hallway in which they stood. “You’ve caught me, I’m afraid,” he admitted. “I’ve heard tales of the Library of Orynth, and now that we’ve slipped away from your regent and he doesn’t expect to see me until the evening I was hoping you could point me in the right direction.”
“I didn’t realize you were so interested in literature,” Aelin blurted out before she could stop herself. “Pardon me, I know as Crown Prince of Adarlan you would have to be well-read, but…”
“Oh, please don’t tell me you thought I was a warrior,” he replied, eyes wide in feigned terror. “I can wield a sword well enough, my guard made sure of that, but I’ll admit I would rather be reading.”
Aelin smiled and began leading him toward the library. “I’m afraid my lessons in magic take up most of my days now, but before that I loved sneaking off to the library myself,” she confessed. “Truly, I believe you could find a book or a scroll about any topic you imagined in our collection. I’ll admit that I miss it, so I’ll take you there myself, on one condition.”
Dorian gave her a conspiratorial grin. “And what might that condition be?”
“You must allow me to accompany you. After all, my regent likely thinks I’m showing you the rose garden, or perhaps the stables. It would seem odd if I simply abandoned you now.”
“That seems fair enough,” he allowed. “Perhaps you could direct me to some of your favorites.”
“Oh, I’m not sure your visit is long enough for that list,” she said with a laugh. “We’ll have to discuss a few of them, though, as well as some of yours.”
As they turned a corner and she opened a door, Aelin smiled at one of her favorite sights in the world.
The library encompassed an entire floor on its own, and she suspected there was even more to it than what she had explored. Each wall was filled floor to ceiling with books and scrolls, and each room was packed with as many shelves as it could reasonably hold. It was more than enough for a person to get lost in, and Aelin had herself, on many occasions. The shelves were loosely categorized by topic, with the newer books toward the entrance and the older ones in harder to reach areas. The oldest scrolls, Aelin knew, were kept shielded by a layer of glass, with only the most experienced of their historians allowed to move them.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” she asked as she glanced over at her companion.
Dorian simply stared around himself, eyes wide as he took in the vast array of texts that made up this section of the library. “I hardly know where to begin,” he breathed.
“I felt the same way myself,” Aelin admitted, “the first time I came here. It’s easy to get lost if you’re not careful. And what you’re seeing is only one chamber, the library takes up at least this entire floor.”
“Truly?”
“And that’s only the parts I’ve explored myself,” she grinned. “Is there a particular topic that holds your interest? Philosophy? History? The arts?”
And as Dorian began to tell her of his most recent finds in the Adarlan library, Aelin led him toward her favorite corner. A window on each wall gave the area light during most hours of the day, and a small desk sat tucked against the southern wall. In front of the desk was a chair, worn but still comfortable, and writing supplies were neatly laid out on the desk’s surface. It was just enough space for a few pieces of paper in addition to a single book, and she had spent countless hours in this very space as she learned about the kingdom she was to inherit.
A small corner of the desk was scorched, and Aelin ran her fingertips across the burned wood fondly. “I did this when I was eight,” she said. “I had slipped away from my parents, and I was hiding among the shelves when I found this little desk. One of the guardsmen found me, but I was so lost in the tale I was reading that I didn’t hear him approach until his hand was on my shoulder. It was the first time my magic truly manifested, and I was banned from the library for almost a year.”
“What made them change their minds?” Dorian asked as he inspected the scorch marks himself.
Aelin laughed softly. “Mostly the fact that they couldn’t keep me out,” she admitted. “I kept sneaking in whenever I could. Even now, when I could ask for whatever books I wish to be delivered to my rooms…”
Dorian nodded. “I agree. It’s not quite the same, is it? I’ve always preferred what I found myself.”
As they continued to talk, Aelin allowed her mind to wander. This meeting had already gone better than she could have possibly dreamed. Perhaps it wouldn’t be so hard to be married to him, she mused.
If only her magic lessons were proceeding as smoothly as this arrangement was beginning to.
~*~*~
The next morning, Aelin grunted as her back hit the dirt of the training grounds for the third time. With a frustrated growl, she rolled onto her front and lifted herself onto her hands and knees, only allowing herself a single breath before springing back to her feet and whirling around to once more face her attacker.
Aedion laughed where he stood above her, one hand still extended in an offer to help her to her feet. “You realize you don’t actually have to do this, right?” he asked. “No one expects you to be a master of hand-to-hand combat, especially given your magic and your skills with a knife.”
“I don’t always have a knife, and I can’t rely on my magic,” Aelin replied, tucking a strand of stray hair back into her braid. “I have to be able to take on someone bigger and stronger than me, or at least not lose terribly.”
Aedion looked unimpressed, arms crossing over his chest as he leaned against a fence post. “And this has nothing whatsoever to do with how your magic training is going,” he drawled.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said haughtily. “My training is—”
He cut her off with a laugh. “Cousin, for that to work I would’ve needed to not witness your training myself. You two really started off on the wrong foot, didn’t you?”
That didn’t begin to describe it, really, but Aelin knew there was a limit to what she could tell him. “You could say that. He’s so…”
As she grasped for words, Aedion lifted a single golden eyebrow. “I’ve never known you to lack an opinion,” he remarked. “Don’t tell me you’re uncertain now.”
“Infuriating,” she finally snarled. “He’s absolutely infuriating. Condescending. Smug. Patronizing. Maddening.” With each word she spat, she threw another punch at Aedion.
Of course, he neatly blocked each attack she launched at him. “Don’t you think in this subject he might know best? I think a few centuries of honing your magic for offensive tactics as much as he has would allow someone to be a little confident in their own knowledge.”
“I’d feel better about it if he wasn’t so… him,” she growled. “It’s like nothing I do is even close to good enough, or even enough to merit any kind of reaction at all!”
Aedion laughed then. “He’s got good insight, certainly. He can’t have just guessed that the easiest way to get under your skin is to act like you’re not getting under his.”
With a shout, Aelin darted in again. This time, she finally managed to land a glancing blow that slid along his ribs. With a knife it would have been devastating, but as it was he just grinned at her. “Better,” he said. “You have to remember your targets are different when you don’t have a blade, though.”
She growled in response and admitted, “I got lucky. You were distracted.”
“That’s not a bad thing,” he replied. “Distraction is a valid tactic, used correctly. It may be your best advantage in this kind of situation. Believe it or not, you’re not always going to be the biggest or strongest person in the room. You have to use other strengths.”
“You make it sound so easy,” she sighed.
Aedion shrugged. “Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn’t. But I don’t think it’s wrong to do what it takes to make sure you can fight another day. Now. Is this really about learning hand-to-hand combat, or do you honestly think you need an excuse to talk to your own cousin about what’s on your mind?”
Aelin laughed and carefully untwisted the knot she had tied her braided hair into. “Please,” she said breezily. “You know I have no problem with interrupting anything unimportant. Besides, training with you was the only way I could get out of training with… him.”
“Oh, so we’re not even saying his name now?” Aedion grinned.
“Is there a reason we should be?” she asked. “I’ve heard that saying someone’s name while they’re absent can attract… unwanted attention. Especially from someone whose hearing is naturally heightened because he’s not human.”
Her cousin sighed, running a hand through his own golden locks. “You really don’t like him, do you?”
“I don’t trust him,” Aelin replied. “The first full-blooded Fae to visit our court in years, not to mention blood-sworn to their queen, who I also don’t trust. I’m surprised you seem to be getting along with him as well as you are, if I’m being honest.”
Aedion shrugged in response. “He’s a warrior, through and through. Very practical. I can respect that. Besides, his training with the Bane has been enlightening.”
“You let him train with you, knowing that he could be made to report on every detail he happens to see at his queen’s will?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” he grinned. “I see everything that he sees. Let him report that we train hard. Let him tell her our strength as a company. And if she presses further, let him admit that he helped us become stronger. I’m certain he’ll find a way around mentioning that fact for as long as possible.”
Aelin grinned back at him. “You let him in to limit how much he would feel comfortable reporting. How devious.”
“Well, we can’t all be you, but I do try sometimes,” he replied.
Aelin took a step back and stretched, arms over her head, before relaxing once more. “Well. Keep up the good work. I’m sure I’m going to want to try this again soon.”
“Is it really necessary?” Aedion asked. “You could just—”
But before she could hear his suggestions on how to deal with her training she was already walking away from the field. She knew that Rowan would find her for training in the afternoon regardless of where she hid, but she was hoping she could spend just a little more time in the library before he dragged her out. Perhaps it would be merely delaying the inevitable, but the last thing she wanted at this point was to sit around and wait for him.
~*~*~
Predictably, Aelin had only just found what appeared to be a promising book when Rowan found her. Knowing her time was up and it was pointless to fight it, Aelin quietly handed her find to a librarian and asked for it to be delivered to her rooms before following him back down the stairs and out to the training grounds.
Despite having known that it was inevitable that he would find her, Aelin found herself scowling at his broad shoulders as they walked. “I hope you enjoyed your morning,” she offered as they left the castle and began walking to the grounds. “After all, you so frequently mention what you could do if you weren’t so busy with me, it must have been delightful.”
“Some of us actually work,” he replied shortly. “Not everyone has the luxury of whiling away their days indoors among friends, regardless of whether or not you’re gracing them with your presence.”
Aelin took a deep breath in an effort to maintain her calm. Perhaps her best recourse would be to do as he did and act as though she was unbothered by anything. “I hardly think you would consider a day indoors a luxury,” she said lightly. “As a matter of fact, if I didn’t know you were assigned your own rooms when you arrived I would wonder if perhaps you spent your nights nesting in a tree.”
Rowan paused at the entrance to the training grounds, just long enough to open the gate and let both of them in. “Perhaps if you spent less time wondering about my sleeping arrangements and more time focusing on your training, you’d have already mastered your shift and possibly even your magic.”
Aelin felt her fingers curl into fists at her side, and it was an effort to relax them again. Calm, she reminded herself. She would keep her calm. She wouldn’t fall victim to his condescension, not today. Instead, she reached up to her braided hair and carefully wound it around itself until it was knotted out of her way. “I think you overestimate the amount of time I spend wondering about your sleeping arrangements,” she mused. “Believe me when I say I try to spend as little time outside of our delightful little sessions thinking about you as I can get away with.”
Rather than show any outward reaction to her comments, Rowan simply sat in the center of the training ground. “You could be rid of that burden even sooner, you know. All you have to do is shift.”
Aelin scowled as she joined him on the ground, carefully crossing her legs and tucking her feet underneath herself. “What does it matter to you, anyway?” she asked. “What’s stopping you from telling Regent Darrow that we’re through and leaving?”
“I presume you haven’t forgotten about the oath I swore to my queen,” came his reply. “I am under orders to help you gain control over your abilities, and cannot leave until my task is complete.”
“That certainly hasn’t stopped you before,” Aelin snapped as heat began coursing through her veins.
Faintly, as if through a thick blanket, she felt the air around them grow cold and still. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Rowan snarled, fangs exposed and pine-green eyes sharp and frigid.
Aelin laughed, though there was no humor in the sound. “Your precious oath to your precious queen,” she mocked as he growled. “It hasn’t stopped you from leaving before.”
The wind picked up suddenly, blasting her onto her back in a frigid whirlwind—or was it the male himself and not his magic that had knocked her back? It had happened so quickly, she couldn’t be certain. His fingers encircled her wrists as he pinned her to the dirt, and as Aelin looked on his eyes grew cold and dark. “Do not speak in that tone about that which you do not understand,” he said sharply.
Gods, what had she said that had provoked such rage in his face but such deadness in his eyes? Despite a small voice in the back of her head shrieking about caution, she pressed on. “I fail to see what there is to understand or not understand,” she continued. “You’ve left me before. You do it every gods-damned rutting day. You’ve left me completely alone, with nothing but my own thoughts to remind myself of what a failure I am.” All of it was true, and suddenly Aelin realized just how much it had been bothering her all this time.
For all that she gave the outward appearance of being surrounded by friends, Aelin knew there were precious few people she could trust with every part of herself lest they abandon her. Her cousin, for all she knew he loved her, put the security of her kingdom above herself—as he should, and as she had asked of him. Lysandra was more likely to be understanding, but less likely to fully grasp the complexity of the messes she had put herself into through her own actions. She couldn’t even be certain she could trust her dearest friends, for they had kingdoms of their own to maintain and would quite possibly take advantage of any weakness she let them see.
Worse still, most of those people who had known all of her were lost to her. Her parents had passed long ago, and the one person who had taken the time to learn all of her, the person she would’ve left everything behind for if she had to—he was gone, too, taken beyond her reach. Moreover, anyone who she could tell about him would immediately realize what she had come to know in the years since his passing. Her first and only love had been her greatest weakness and her biggest failure of them all, in more ways than one, and nothing she could do now could possibly make up for it.
While she had been lost in her thoughts, Rowan had only grown more irate. “Well, perhaps if you could master something as basic as shifting you wouldn’t think of yourself as such a failure,” he retorted as his grip on her wrists tightened.
Suddenly, a deadly calm washed over Aelin as she realized she had had enough of this. “If you’re trying to provoke me into shifting, you’d be better off hitting me again,” she snapped. You’re not telling me anything I don’t know, and I certainly don’t need help remembering my own failings. Or you could just leave me again, you know, like you’re so good at doing.”
A growl filled the air and then there was a sharp pain piercing the junction of her neck and her shoulder. It took her a moment to grasp what had happened, but as Rowan spat a mouthful of blood—her blood—onto the ground, she realized he had bitten her.
Through her sudden rage at such a possessive and claiming act from someone who hated her as much as Rowan did, she heard a shriek and dimly recognized it as her own voice. The ground appeared before her, silver hair splayed across the dirt—had she flipped them? She couldn’t recall—and her hands clawed at his chest as a brief moment of agony surged through her.
Then she bared her own fangs at him, and there was nothing but fire.
~*~*~
Later that evening, Aelin paced in the hallway outside of the healers’ wing, hands clutching at a small jar of salve she had taken while no one was paying attention. It had been an impulsive decision to take it, and one she didn’t regret, but following through with the next phase of her plan was significantly more daunting. Even as nerves threatened to overtake her, though, she knew she had to carry on. It was her own fault she was in this mess, anyhow.
It would be easy to blame Rowan, and to say he had brought it on himself through his own actions. It would be easy to stew in self-righteous anger threaded through with self-pity. But it would be wrong to ignore her own role in the fight they’d had, and the consequences of her own loss of control were seared into her mind’s eye.
After he had bitten her, Aelin had finally, finally shifted—and then promptly lost control of her magic. Flames had swirled around them both, singeing the ends of her own hair as well as his. Before long, though, she was left gasping for breath, collapsed against his unfairly broad chest as the flames around them extinguished. He had pulled the air away from her, she realized now, and in so doing had deprived the fire of the fuel it required. Her aunt truly had sent a well-suited trainer, as angry as it still made her that it had been deemed necessary. Not someone with similar powers, but someone who could contain her as she learned to control the fires that burned within her.
That is, assuming he wanted anything to do with her now. Which he probably didn’t.
When she had shifted her weight to pull away from him, he had done his best to hide his reaction, but her enhanced eyesight had caught the tiniest flinch. She had looked down and gasped, scrambling away from him.
There were two holes in the fabric of his shirt from where she had burned through it, and underneath those holes bright red welts had just been beginning to blister.
Before she had gathered the nerve to say anything to him at all he had already stood, stalking away with some snarled remark about her lack of control and leaving her to stare after him. She had then looked down at her trembling hands, curling them into fists as she realized that of course her own flesh was unharmed. Aside from occasional scorched hair, she had never once harmed herself with her own power. She had only harmed those around her, and this lapse in control had been no exception.
Aelin shook her head in a vain attempt to clear her mind. She’d gone out of her way to stay in her rooms for the evening meal, doing her best to read and not worry about what was passing without her. It wasn’t until Aedion had returned from the evening meal that she learned that Rowan had been absent as well.
She had then gone to check with the palace healers, but it was apparent that he hadn’t stopped by to have his burns—the burns she had given him—examined. And so she had stolen a small jar of healing salve, which led her to her current predicament.
The ideal situation would be for her to find his rooms empty and simply leave the jar somewhere he could find it. Even as she thought it, though, she realized both that it was unlikely to work and that it wouldn’t be enough. No, she needed to own up to her shortcomings and apologize properly.
Aelin growled softly and tugged at the ends of her newly-trimmed hair, which now fell just below her shoulders. It was ridiculous to be this concerned over him when he was so clearly unconcerned with her, but she couldn’t stop reliving the moment she realized just how badly she had burned him. Even though most people would say he had certainly provoked it, the memory still turned her stomach.
She took a deep breath and strode purposefully to the rooms Rowan had been assigned before she could talk herself out of it. Luckily, she ran into no one else along the way. It was confusing enough to her that she was doing this to begin with; she couldn’t imagine trying to explain it to anyone else.
Steeling her nerves, she knocked on his door and received only a wordless grunt in reply. Taking that as permission, Aelin carefully opened the door and froze at the sight that greeted her.
She had obviously interrupted Rowan in the middle of cutting his own singed hair; a pile of silver strands laid on his desk beside a knife. His shirt was off, and before she could stop herself her eyes traced along the swirling lines of his tattoo. Without clothing to cover the marks she could see that it flowed unbroken along the entire left side of his body, across his shoulder and down his arm all the way to his fingertips. He turned to face her, pine-green eyes narrowing in irritation, and she thrust the jar of salve in his direction before he could say a word. “For the burns,” she managed.
He delicately took the jar from her grasp and inspected it before setting it aside. “I deserved it,” he admitted, and Aelin knew without asking that this was as close to an apology for his own actions as she was likely to receive.
Aelin shrugged in reply, tucking a strand of hair behind an ear that was once more rounded rather than pointed like his own. “That doesn’t mean I can’t feel bad about it, or that I don’t.”
Rowan frowned, studying her as though she was a particularly stubborn puzzle. “We need to work on your control,” he finally said. “I told you to shift, not to throw a magical tantrum.”
Just like that Aelin forgot she had ever felt bad for her part in it, the feeling replaced by the sparks of irritation that constantly burned through her whenever they spoke. “You didn’t tell me to do anything,” she snapped. “You bit me. What the rutting hell was that, anyway, some sort of domineering Fae male horseshit?”
He shrugged, and sympathy warred with vindictive delight as the motion pulled his burned chest taut. “It worked, didn’t it? You shifted. Now you just need to learn to do it on command instead of reacting like a sheltered princess who didn’t get her way.”
Aelin crossed her arms as she leaned against the door frame. “I fail to see what my title has to do with any of this,” she said.
“I’ve spent a great deal of time observing how you act these past few weeks,” he replied. “The only thing holding you back is your own fear.”
“I think it’s reasonable to be afraid of hurting the people around me,” she snarled.
“Which is why you need to learn,” Rowan snapped back as he finally stood. “If you can’t manage to set your fears aside and learn some godsdamned control, you’ll truly become the worthless figurehead you fear you are. I have neither the time nor the patience to coach you through whatever trifling fears you’ve experienced in your terribly short life, nor do I care. I am here to teach you to control your magic, not to assuage your sense of self-pity, and certainly not to be your friend. The sooner you realize that, the sooner we can both be rid of each other. Hate me if you must. I do not care.”
Before Aelin could reach through the sudden wave of tingling numbness that rushed through her and find the words to respond to such obvious animosity, Rowan crossed the room in four quick strides. “Now get out,” he snarled as he slammed the door in her face.
Aelin stared at the wood scant inches away from her face, jaw slack in surprise, before collecting herself enough to walk away. She didn’t make it far, though, slipping into an abandoned room nearby rather than attempt to maintain her composure all the way back to her own rooms.
She hadn’t expected Rowan to be particularly interested in listening to her, she reminded herself. She had injured him mere hours beforehand, after all. Not to mention that, as he had so rudely reminded her, he was only to stay until she had mastered her own power and then they would never see each other again.
It wasn’t even as if she particularly liked him. He was domineering and stubborn, and his temper ran as hot as her own for all that he had mastered his own control over ice and wind rather than fire. But perhaps in spite of the similarities she saw in them, or perhaps because of them, she couldn’t help but feel that it might’ve been nice to talk with him just once. To understand, and to be understood in turn rather than hated.
Aelin shook her head. It was a foolish notion, for a foolish girl. She should have known better.
Despite that knowledge, though, she couldn’t help but feel as if a small part of her had curled up and died along with that foolish hope. It shouldn’t have mattered that he thought so little of her. He barely knew her, and their time as master and student was limited in scope. It shouldn’t have mattered at all.
But it did, and she couldn’t for the life of her begin to figure out why.

Of Nightmares and Answers
Inspired by @jacquesthepigeon post
I apologize in advance for the long post.
(I suck at titles, sorry)
...
Hawk Moth, Marinette decided, was a jerk with no creativity whatsoever.
She was no villain and the reused ideas made her job considerably easier. An akuma that could travel through screens? Simple, corner them and cut the electricity. One that could fly? That was cake, once she and Chat managed to enclose them. It would get messy, but they always managed.
But this recurring theme of exploiting people's fears was getting pretty messed up pretty quickly. That was just sick.
A year later and she had to deal with Nightmare Adrien once again. At this point it wasn't even scary anymore, so she just simply grabbed him by his shirt and hurled him to the Seine—where he promptly dissolved into a cloud of gliterry smoke so that was enlightening. Marinette knew that it was next to imposible to completely get ros of him, but every second she did not expect subjected to his alphabetized and numerized list of why Kagami was perfect and overall superior than Marinette, was a second she was going to enjoy however short.
Now, she knew there was more to it than a teen crush in that manifestation of her fears, but she wasn't in the mood to stop and think about it too deeply, not when there was an akuma on the loose. Certainly not after.
For Chat Noir his fear was always the same. Condiment, powerlessness. It made her heart break when he showed up late and pale.
Hawk Moth, besides being a boring villain, was a massive jerk and Marinette would punch his teeth out as soon as she got the chance.
“Chat?” she called him, noticing how his eyes got lost.
He shook his head. “I'm fine, I'm fine.” The fact he didn't try cover it with a flirty line or a light-hearted pun spoke for itself.
Yes, Marinette was going to absolutely destroy Hawk Moth. But they had an akuma to catch now, before Paris spiraled down into complete madness. They had already sounded the alarms and many had taken refuge. But there were always stragglers and those found themselves at different levels of panic, sobbing and whimpering and screaming, rocking themselves with their knees pressed to the chest and pulling their hair out.
They had to fix this now.
The only advantage Marinette could think of was that this akuma only seemed to affect people who came into direct contact with her, and that she wasn't as good fighting as she was escaping. It was a tricky, slippery one, but once they cornered her it was over. An ally might have been good, but it was late and she didn't want to expose anyone else to this.
It was one of those akumas.
Suffice to say they didn't even know her name, nor her story. The quiet ones were the most volatile, destructive. Marinette would know.
She simply hoped her Lucky Charm could fix things afterwards, thought she was aware it didn't erase memories.
She sighed, beginning to feel the guilt. As much as Tikki and Chat, and everyone, told her Hakw Moth was the one to blame, she couldn't help the feeling.
That won't help now, thought. So she shook her head and turned to Chat. “Alright, kitten, this is going to be interes—”
A dark laugh cut her off.
They both whirled at the same time, weapons at the ready. There she was, unsettling in her outfit's simplicity. The black suit, the fine-looking cane and the elegant bun at the back of her hair. She seemed like someone they might find on the street. It made her all the more uncomfortable to look at.
“So we meet again,” she said as she gave her a once-over. “I thought I got rid of you, especially you, Chat Noir. You seemed rather distressed in that cage.” He didn't show signs to reply. The akuma clicked her tongue and pursed her lips. “I thought this would be more amusing, but life is so full of disappointments already it shouldn't surprise me.”
She wasted no time in reaching for his pocket and pulling out a fistful of her glittery black dust. She blowed it, two circles forming and smoking between them, swirling and bubbling in unnatural ways. Marinette took a step back as did Chat.
You see, Hawk Moth was a sucker for recycling ideas. But he did know how to twist them just enough to improve them. Where Sandboy had needed to sprinkle his victims, this one simply needed to be in range. People's own fear fed by the dust, the dust fed by people's fear. This was her chance to attack before the dust and smoke took shape.
And she did, but one of the circles shot outwards, into iron bars. Chat lost focus, his pupils contracting. The fear coming off of him was almost palpable.
The akuma hit him with a strength unproper of her appearance, sending him to the ground with a blow to the chest. Marinette worried when he didn't got up immediately. The akuma then proceeded to almost knock her out with a punch to the nose.
There were many things Marinette had done throughout her life, participating in a brawl was not one of them. The hit disoriented her, causing black spots to swarm her vision. She couldn't block the kick to the gut that made her fall.
Stunned, she could only watch the akuma staring down at her. It's over, Marinette thought. But the akuma simple stood there with a cruel intent in her eyes, and left, jumping above the bars before they completely closed.
Marinette wanted to stomp her feet in frustration when her head stopped spinning. She touched her nose, it hurt awfully but she didn't think it was broken. A plan was already forming in her head when she got up. They would have to use Chat's cataclysm first, though, which would only make them lose more time as he would need to recharge adte. Again. In addition to dealing with Nightmare Adrien. Fucking awesome.
She walked up to Chat, who was sitting. She saw the fear reflected in his face as he took in his surroundings, she swore she heard him mutter not again, not again.
“Hey,” Marinette said softly, offering what she hoped was a soothing smile. “Come on, kitten, let's get this over with.”
He took deep breaths before nodding. Marinette offered her hand and he took it. His face remained closed off, as it would be the rest of the day and maybe the rest of the night. She wondered if he'd sleep with his window open, or it he'd sleep at all.
“Cataclysm,” he muttered, the dark energy building up in the pal of his hand.
Marinette often looked away when he summoned his powers. She didn't know when it would stop. Not today, it seemed, as she stared at the humanoid form of her fears.
She readied her yo-yo with a sigh. Earlier, she'd figure it out the more scared someone was, the faster their Nightmares took form. No wonder Chat's had so quickly. Hers was about to, even if she convinced herself that she wasn't afraid of Adrien. That she wasn't terrified of being good enough for him, or for anyone.
She steeled herself as the smoke rippled one last time. But Adrien didn't walk out of it. Not with that white mask and icy mask, not with that twisted, insane, cruel smirk. Her blood chilled, her lip quivered and her yo-yo almost fell from her unsteady hands.
Marinette took a step back as Chat Blanc bared his teeth in way the would have been playful hadn't it been so wicked in its mocking nature. That made him grin wider. “Hello, Marinette.”
He attacked.
...
Marinette never stopped shaking. When she went home her parents didn't about. Her mom only went to make her hot chocolate while her father sat her on his lap, cradling her head like a newborn and running his other hand up and down her back. “Breathe in and out with me, my little one,” he murmured softly.
Marinette tried, she really did, but the shaking never quite left, her heartbeat didn't slow down and when her mom brought her a cup of chocolate, it rattled so much she spilled it onto her dad's pants. “S-Sorry.”
“Shhh, it's okay,” he reassured her. And even when she stopped apologizing, he kept saying it. “It's okay, baby girl.”
It's okay, he said when Marinette wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face on his shoulder, trying to remember what it was like to breathe again.
...
Chat fell like a sack of potatoes on her roof. Well, maybe not like a sack of potatoes, but loudly enough to make Marinette jump out of her skin with a pathetic squeal.
It was him, or it was the worst thief in Paris trying to break in. The latter sounded more inviting than the former, truth to be told. That was the kind of day she'd had.
Marinette turned to Tikki, slightly—very—panicked to what Tikki only gave her an understanding gaze. She could almost hear her gentle words even though her kwami didn't speak. With a sigh and unsteady gait, she climbed the stairs to her bed and then went out to the roof.
The cold wasn't that bad, seeing as the summer was barely leaving, but she wrapped her arms around herself as she stood in front of Chat Noir.
Chat Noir, she repeated in her head.
He swallowed. “It's nice up here,” he said after a moment of silence.
Marinette nodded, coming to stand with her hand on the railing. “I like to come here people-gazing,” she told him. “It... inspires me.”
Chat stood besides her. The glimpse of his bell made her flinch. Golden, she told herself. His bell is golden, his hair is blond, his suit black and his eyes green. He put distance between them, and for that, for that Marinette swore Hawk Moth would pay. One day.
Marinette swallowed her, the lump in her throat obstructing her breathing. “You must have questions,” she sighed.
Chat glanced at her from the corner of his eyes as she did the same. They both went to stare ahead, repulsed like equal poles. “You could say that,” he muttered. “But I wasn't going to make them tonight.”
“What changed?”
“Nothing, I don't expect answers tonight.” Marinette stared him openly now, doubts in her eyes and arched eyebrows. He sighed. “I have... nightmares.”
Well.
She could relate to that.
“About what?”
It was always risky to pry, even thought he only brought something up only when he was ready to discuss it. But today hadn't been a good day, for either of them. He answered anyway.
“My father is a millionaire.”
On other occasion, Marinette would've berates him for revealing that kind of information but... it didn't matter much now, did it?
“He's obsessed with my safety, ironic, given he doesn't give a shit about me,” Chat went on. “The point is my house is a bunker. And since Sandboy I had this dream, where everything is closed and I'm locked in. I don't have plan or my miraculous, there's no way out. But there's this crack in the blinds. I can see everything from it, but I cannot so much as to put a finger out. There's people always other people at the other side and I scream but they never hear me. There's my friends, there's you. But no one ever hears, and I never get out.”
Marinette felt her eyes sting. “You saw Ladybug?” she asked thickly.
“No. I see you.”
A tear escaped her, and then other, and other. She shouldn't say it. She shouldn't tell him.
“Chat,” Marinette whispered, “something terrible happened.”
And yet she did, knowing it was a mistake.

Detoxing from heroin can be the most excruciating detoxification that a medication fiend can understanding. Serious physical withdrawal side effects anticipate for the individuals who quit. Have confidence, there are a few techniques out there to help you along way.
Inpatient Care, Treatment Centers, and Rehab Centers
This technique is perhaps the best course to take in the event that you are not kidding about detoxing heroin. The principle objective of an inpatient treatment place for dependence is to ensure patients are completely went without any type of sedative whatsoever occasions for anyway long the withdrawal procedure endures. Right now strategy, clients are instructed to carry on with a medication free life and mean to re-sparkle the get-up-and-go indeed. Inpatient treatment is a basic heroin detox technique as patients are cut off from the remainder of the world while they center around getting spotless, this is both extremely useful and even helpful for certain patients since it offers them a reprieve from all the disorder while they adapt to the new sentiments of being sans heroin. Alongside withdrawal support, patients are shown adapting systems and social tips to help better reconnect with the outside world and to discover bliss and be more beneficial once they leave the clinic or recovery.
Taking Methadone to "Straightforwardness" off Heroin
Methadone is an incorporated sedative used to help shrivel off heroin while withdrawal and needing lessened rather than stopping utilize all together. Methadone is a long-acting sedative that is intended to remain in the framework for 24-48 hours. This is exceptionally gainful in that heroin addicts utilize all the more regularly then what methadone can achieve in only one portion. Methadone works fundamentally the same as different painkillers, for example, Vicodin and Oxycontin and is an exceptionally powerful type of treatment when used to treat sedative dependence.
At the point when endorsed methadone, the patient will come into the methadone facility once per day and will be firmly observed by a specialist to ensure a satisfactory measure of methadone is being directed while likewise ensuring no different meds are being tossed in the blend. Methadone is generally apportioned in fluid form, but can likewise be in pill or water structure.
Numerous advantages are in taking Methadone, most quite is the point at which an individual is on a right portion, he doesn't feel "high", rather he feels typical again with dying down withdrawal side effects so he can carry on with a beneficial life. Methadone is additionally significantly less expensive at that point really purchasing heroin in the city, once in a while spending up to hundreds per day. It's ideal since Methadone just should be taken once a day restricted to different sedatives which should be taken at regular intervals to maintain a strategic distance from withdrawal.
Fast Detox for Heroin Addicts
On account of present day medication and innovation, this strategy for detoxing heroin exists. Of every single other technique, this is by all accounts the most beneficial and quickest approach to detox your body totally liberated from sedatives. Preformed in an emergency clinic or detox focus, this system is finished by authorized a clinical professional.
The system goes this way: You stroll into the fast detox community and are first acquainted with sedation. While you are under the impacts of sedation, specialists will give you professionally prescribed prescriptions to quickly flush the framework clean everything being equal. From beginning to end, this method takes around 4 hours and when you wake up after the sedation wears off, you should feel no withdrawal manifestations at all. In any case, there have been hardly any situations where individuals would report simply mellow withdrawals.
There are a few ruins to quick detox in any case. Costs for this methodology reach up to $15,000, regardless of whether you are eager to reach in your pockets, mull over that a few patients have kicked the bucket because of confusions from the drugs that are utilized to assist flush with excursion your framework. Albeit uncommon, there has been accounted for six passings at one specific New Jersey detox focus out of their 2,350 patients over a multi year time frame who experienced a similar fast detox strategy as the people in question.
In general, I accept individuals who pick this course face an absence of help once they leave the quick detox place. It's customary for patients to take a crack at an inpatient treatment focus to all the more likely outfit themselves with the apparatuses pointless to confront a medication free life when they are released back to society. It's imperative to have an immediate care group in the event that you pick this technique for detoxing heroin, regardless of whether it's companions or other recuperating addicts, it will help bring down the danger of backslide.

So likewise if you fellowship with people that do good works, the Spirit of the Lord makes certain that your jobs are good also.
Furthermore, statements make certain word of prophesy (2 Peter 1:19), which the Holy Spirit also utilizes to explain to you the excellent you must take part in. They are networks where the Spirit of God tells you the steps or directions to require to reach your very own testament.
