ASL all being raised on violence so they genuinely don’t understand softer touch, genuine kindness at first

Like these three feral jungle kids bit kicked scratched each other full on brawled one another because it was the only way they knew how to show affection

(Garp’s fist of love is not exactly a great point of reference for any of them, Dadan was also likewise heavy handed but lets be real these brats kicked her ass more than she kicked theirs lmao)

Luffy clicks with Zoro because Zoro’s just built like that, he’s built walls and his dreams to become the worlds greatest swordsman and nothings gonna stop him, So when Luffy decks him, hauls ass flings him about, its how Luffy shows affection, rocketing at top speed towards Zoro whilst yelling his name because he knows Zoro can take it, the same doesnt really go down well with Nami or Usopp, theyre not built the same way— bruises and bumps and scratches, Nami whacks him over the head all the time for stupid stuff she says and Luffy finds thats familiar, to which Usopp is like my guy my dude thats actually pretty effed up holy hell

Usopp and Sanji being the first of the crew to show Luffy that affection doesnt have to be violent (like usopp sharing a cool beetle he found, Sanji ruffling his hair because hes mad hes gotta wait until dinner for more food)

Ace fights a lot because it’s all he knows how to do right, hes good at it, he wins alot mostly but loses just as many times because he overestimates himself, maybe after fighting Whitebeard 100 times he doesnt let up and Whitebeard catches on immediately after Ace has taken his ink like son, just because i can kick your ass doesnt mean you have to go looking for it. Ace confused is like huh? But isnt this like a bonding activity and WB concerned asks Ace what his childhood was like and Ace shrugs uh. Absent everyone? Like everyone, kinda acted out a ton for attention and stuff, the WBP appalled at Ace’s viewpoint on violence versus affection look to multiple ways in which they can smother their newest brother with actual kind affection, naturally it starts with Marco approaching him with food and no other motive than to be kind — Ace used to fighting tooth and nail to eat looks so suspicious its almost heartbreaking

Sabo who’s never known a kind word from his blood parents and only begruding respect and tolerance from Dadan — hes perceptive, the fact this bandit lady with the crazy intense face is allowing him to freeload with Ace n Luffy tells him a ton about her, she’s coarse and rude and everything Sabo’s parents hate so naturally Sabo loves her, (its a shame we never got more Dadan and Sabo :(((((() gravitates towards Ace because he’s everythinf his parents hate too, wild uncouth loudmouthed and violent and they get along, they beat each other up bc its how they tell each other theyre strong ive got your back

And then he loses his memories and maybe thats a good thing because Sabo learns kindness with the revolutionaries, he feels seen and heard and respected (Big Applause to Dragon and Iva for listening to kid Sabo beg and plead not to go back to his old life and went okay hes ours now chadmindset love to see it) he learns that violence and affection are a double sided coin, that he can use his skills to fight and protect those that cant do it for themselves

ASL are a rowdy set of rabble rousin kiddos but its really nice to see how they develop as they got older bc of the people they encountered who help them understand theyre not alone as they think they are

for usopps bday i went nuts abt water seven below the cut 👍

also not to go craaazy on the whole ‘relating to characters over our shared personal trauma’ but i don’t know that ive ever related to a character more than usopp… the entirety of water seven made me so gd sad bc it was all him struggling with his own insecurity, and it’s not even untrue bc he genuinely is surrounded by insane fighters, people with powers etc. how can usopp- definition of ‘just some guy’ - handle himself in the same fights as these guys. the usopp that was outmatched by the gag characters in baroque works!!

and even compared to nami, the other straw hat of his power level, she’s shown as much more crucial in the narrative up until that point. she’s a genius at navigating! he’s a genius at sniping, but it never plays as big a role UNTIL water seven.

so when the merry has reached the end of her lifespan, usopp also sees it as a sign that he’s reaching the end of his tenure on the ship! and he fights that notion, he confronts franky n everything, but u can’t do what cant be done, so he flips out on luffy, trying to prove his worth once n for all by beating luffy using usopp’s own tricks. ultimately he loses, and that’s his sign that he and the merry aren’t good enough for the straw hats anymore.

it’s only by becoming sogeking that usopps able to overcome the fear that he isn’t good enough, and hes able to use his true abilities to take down the flag in that one pivotal moment for robin…

n throughout, the crew still love and care for him so much!!! chopper, nami, luffy, even sanji tells franky he shld beat him up for ‘giving our long-nose such a hard time’. zoro’s hardassery i think comes from being the first mate, but also acknowledging usopp as an equal w the right to make his own decisions. That fucking scene where usopp apologises and luffy’s FULL FACE sobbing… who among us insecure people wldnt want a group of friends who love us and want us around so bad!!!

And then the transition from that to thriller bark, where usopp faces down perona and says, ‘I finally found something that I could do and the others couldn’t. I thought i could finally protect them’. He puts on the sogeking mask and it helps him separate from those anxieties and think analytically, which usopp is best at. and he does it again! he beats perona using his brain!! and he doesn’t need that mask again after that. It’s about the growth, the realisation that even if you aren’t as strong, you’re still valued and wanted, and that reassurance giving you the support you need to explore ur own strengths that others might not have. cmon man water seven rules and usopp rules. He’s my guy.

Family Doesn’t Matter

Chapter 6

Kenshiro

Kenshiro was sprinting down the many turning hallways trying to make his way to Law "this guy" he said in annoyance. Kenshiro knew exactly where Law was and exactly what he was doing and he was rushing to get to him "I hope he isn't alone" he said to himself. Now dont get things twisted Kenshiro knows all to well Law is more than capable of holding his own in a fight and Vergo was no exception its just that he was worried about Law like an adult would be over their elderly parent's health and well being or if their parent is living alone in a house with no one to look after them and be there in case they fall, he sprinted through two doors at the end of the hallway he was running down and start to look around. He looked up see bars which indicated a platform of some sort ahead "tsk,this isn't where I need to be" he said as he turned around and sprinted out the room. As he stepped back into the hallway and turn to go back in the direction he came in he could see the purple smoke begin to creep around the corner of another hallway "shit...guess I have no choice but to go this way" he said and turned to face the room he left out of. "I'll have to find away to get to Law throught this room but not before causing a little damage" He said as he put his hands together. As he slowly seperated his hands a clear glass case that was glowing yellow started to appear, within it was a katana that's white and crimson with small details of sakura flowers and a red ribbon of sorts on the sheath,he grabbed the katana and the case disapeared. Kenshiro unsheath the katana and sprinted into the room slashing at all the containers that held the smile foam (or whatever the fuck it was I watched it and still cant tell but I think its a foam like liquid anyway).

Sanji

Sanji was more than done with this place all of it, every last piece of it, not only did he lose his crew again due to all the chaos that was currently unfolding his beloved, his lover, his everything is not by his side like he is supposed to be instead he went off to go find some damn warlord for whatever fucking reason boy was he fuming you could almost see the smoke coming out of his ears. Sanji knew he couldnt do anything about it now out of respect for his captain and the fact that they were now in an alliance with this warlord who to what it looks like to Sanji, has stolen the heart of his lover and has taken him away from him "great just great now I cant do anything about that damn warlord thanks to this stupid alliance...now I have to step up the act to make it more believable so he doent suspect anything...the last thing I want is for my beloved Kenshiro to see my true personality" he said to himself as he walk down a long semi-dark hallway. As time went on and things blossomed between Kenshiro and Sanji, Sanji's personality stared to become more and more twisted to the point where he is now a Lovesick Psychopath with a huge obsession with Kenshiro and it didnt take him long for him to notice the change in his own personality and he sure didnt want anyone else to noticed so he covered up his new personality with his old one treating everyone like he mormally would like arguing with Zoro and such, but now with a new face stepping into the picture one that was very observant Sanji knew he had to step up the facade so that even Law would believe it. Through Sanji's eyes the world was a grayscale mess no color was evident in his sight, as Sanji continued on the light slowly revealed his appearance, he was wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black boots, and was holding a kitchen knife. He was semi-covered in blood, his hands were both very blood up to the wrist, a few blood splat were on his face, blood was at the bottom of his boots due to stepping in blood causing him to have a trail of bloody bootprints behind him, and his eyes were as red as blood like the blood from his victims had stained his eyes red. He clearly lost it and took it out on whoever he came in contact with in that hallway and really went all out and didn't hold back not even a little he stopped and took a black backpack off his back to look inside, he started carring it because Kenshiro, Kenshiro's Father, brothers, and father side of the family's body is weird and slightly different from a normal person so it cause Kenshiro and his family except for his mother and her side of the family to eat more than that of a normal person to sustain their bodies (ill explain that...eventually) so Sanji started to carry food with him for Kenshiro incase he got hungry during their time on an island that they docked at but that doesnt mean he didnt carry other things like a knife lets say a hunting knife and a change of clothes incase things got bloody. Sanji pulled a water bottle from the back opened it, and start to drink from it "I have to get out of these clothes I think I got most of the rage out of me" he thought to himself as he continued to drink the water bottle. After he was Finished he threw the water bottle to the side, picked up the backpack, and started to look for a place to change.

Kenshiro

Kenshiro was lying on the ground holding his stomach he clearly was bested by Vergo now it was up to Smoker to try and beat him, he looked over at Law who was breathing heavily due to having his heart squeezed multiple times by Vergo but he didnt seem like he was ready to give up at least not that easily which for Kenshiro was good to see. He couldnt keep his eyes open due to his body basically forcing him to rest "ah fuck it" he thought to himself and let himself fall asleep.

Law

Law sat up slightly he watched smoker go at it with Vergo, then he turned to look at Kenshiro who was lying motionless on the floor "Tsk I swear that kid is always getting himself in things he cant handle" He thought to himself. Law of course knew that was a flat out lie as Kenshiro as demonstrated on multiple occasions that he can take on just about any thing and anyone with no problem its just that this fight was to much for him especially since he was already tired from the master piece he made down below the platform. Law sure as hell was going to hand it to him tho for throwing himself into another fight after he told Kenshiro not to. he sighed and layed back down the next step to Law's plan was about to unfold.

Sanji

After washing up and changing his clothes Sanji had stepped out of the room he was in and in the nick of time he turned and saw Nami running down the hall towards him "Nami-swan!?!" he said. "Come on Sanji its time to get out of here" She said dusting herself off. "But what about everyone else and Kenshiro" He said out of concern. "Dont worry their on their way as well but right now we have to get out of this hallway" Nami said and grabbed Sanji's arm. Sanji looked behind as Nami pulled him away as the smoke started to come down the hall.

Kenshiro/Law

The battle between Law, Smoker, and Kenshiro vs Vergo has finally met its end and Vergo was pin to the bars of the platform they were all on. Law, Smoker, and Kenshiro were looking at Vergo Listening to every word he was saying then Law cut his head in two (not going into detail of what he said because I'm lowkey to lazy to write it) The whole conversation ended with Doflamingo threating Law to take his "son" away from him and by that I mean Kenshiro. Now Law and Kenshiro's relationship is a father and son relationship the two are always at each others throuts like father and son and they get a long and spend time together like a father and son would, you would think that they were actually father and son and not two people that just became close over time and they both didnt even try to deny it nor say that they werent related they both just excepted it and moved forward so of course Doflamingo's word would send Law into overprotective father mode making him pull Kenshiro slightly behind him and with that the battle was over and they joined everyone else and made their escape.

Sanji/Kenshiro

The two finally found themselves alone with each other and it didnt seem like there would be any disturbances at that moment "Shiro" Sanji said in a low tone Kenshiro found sexy. "Yes" Kenshiro said bending his head back to look at him. Sanji walked slowly towards Kenshiro you could almost see the sickening lest in his eyes as he came closer and closer, he leande his body over Kenshiro's and looked him deeply in the eyes before slowly hgging him and nuzzling his face in Kenshiro's chest even tho he had a flat one "I was worried about you...you went off with out me" he said almost in a baybish tone. "Sorry" Kenshiro said and smiled. Sanji knew it was because of that damn Law that Kenshiro had left him, he got up and kissed Kenshiro "love you" he said. "Love you too" Kenshiro said still enjoying the sweet kiss he just got. and with that Sanji left the room and turn slightly to see Law go in after him "I have to find what kind of connection Law has with my beloved Shiro" Sanji said as the world around him turned grayscale and he struggle to keep his rage in check. "I have too..."
