Hey qhen doing designs for the knuckles clan ehat sources do you usually use for insp I want to find some good insp for maya clothing
this accidentally became a response more about world-building since fashion falls under that in my book. I’m so sorry.
I typically try to get inspired by historical references! One of my personal faves is the art account Zotz! They have a lot of different infographics for their own comic that has Mayan outfits for royals, nobles, commoners, sacrifices, etc. and all follow a similar color scheme!

I also tend to look up architecture of various Mayan civilizations and try to find patterns there! It helps a lot if you can find a website that gives tours of certain areas, they usually have tons of photos there or on their various review pages :) there’s also a list of various Mayan ruin sites on Wikipedia :)

I also LOVE looking into the language, not just knowing the translations but having access to the ancient glyphs used is super nice. There are lists on the glyphs, grammar, and sentence structure on Wikipedia along with several dictionaries across the internet with a quick search, some of them are obviously substituted with a Spanish word on that second one so you have to be careful and use a second translator! There’s also this handy .pdf!
Since the Knuckles clan is only inspired by mesoamerican cultures and isn’t actually a historical one, I’m allowed a little bit of creative liberty (as long as it doesn’t completely go against the history and culture, in my book). So I also like to look at fictional resources as well like the movie El Dorado (Mayan inspired society, take with a grain of salt) and the Netflix series Maya and the Three (contains inspiration in culture, clothing, architecture, and more from many mesoamerican tribes such as the Aztec, Mayan, and even tribes further into South America! It also shows you a BUNCH of different gods and their powers/domains!)
And, of course, having some pals who either live in or have family that came from Central America isn’t a bad idea. It gives you a good idea of family dynamics and can help break/avoid negative stereotypes :)
Hope that helps!!

Jonawagon week: Day 3 - AU/Stone Mask (though it’s a bit of an AU in a way, but yeah...) @jonawagon-week
Ahhh, nothing like discussing ancient deadly items and Aztec sacrifices with your darling. Good thing for Jonathan that Victorians in general were kinda obsessed with death. And not just that, but also Robert has already seen his fair share of obscure and bizarre shite so far to be genuinely spooked when such things are brought up (and the whole encounter with Dio only made him more resilient to that).
...which might explain why he's rather... curious about the subject, and quite interested in it, too.
I’ve mentioned this before, and I can totally see Robert being genuinely interested in Jonathan’s researches, always learning new things and discussing some others, listening intently to the gentleman speaking so passionately about his discoveries for hours on end. And, of course, Jonathan is truly happy to be able to share some of that knowledge with someone else.
Pictured above: Two lovely dorks planning a trip to the Place Where Men Become Gods: Teotihuacán, Mexico. Time to find out if there are any more Stone Masks out there...
