SHEZ VS BYLETH

I didn't get the special chapter for SB or GW. SB, I just straight up did not care. GW, I tried, but it involved an "escort Claude" part and he just sat there and didn't move forward, and I didn't care enough to bother with the chapter a second time.

Shez sounds like Arval. Did Arval take Shez over? I'm guessing to go after Sothis?

Oh, cut scene! Shez vs Byleth again.

Byleth holding his own against Arval!Shez. Good to see. Shez is trying to hold Arval back though.

So . . . if we kick out Arval out in these chapters, does Shez loose their abilities/special class, because no :(((((

Felix, Dedue, and Dimitri are worrying about Shez and Byleth (also, awesome to see all my favs). Rodrigue has news about what happened.

Scouts report that Byleth and Shez are fighting. Felix accuses that Dimitri suspected this.

Dimitri tells how Shez worried that TWSITD would take over her. And Dimitri's promise to kill Shez to stop her from killing others.

Oh, we cut straight to the battle and have to defeat Shez. Makes sense. I'm guessing do it before Byleth dies?

My Shez is, eh, a bit stronger than Byleth, so I'm a bit worried. But Dimitri's such an overkill at this point, he's just going to blaze through this chapter like he did the last one.

It's weird not having Shez among my playable characters. I'm using Jeralt instead of Shez for my missing 8th person because he's the highest level (and I can't use Byleth either so).

Edelgard is around somewhere? Claude showed up to hunt her down.

My Byleth is like 10 levels below Shez. It's not going well.

Atrocity is one hell of a drug. Took Shez out.

Defeating Solon feels good. Got a cut scene too. He just ran away though. Wait, Arval/Shez killed Solon? Ohhh, like Solon killed Kyrona. A sacrifice is needed to open Zaharas. Karma I guess.

Claude and Dimitri talking is kinda cool. And weird Edelgard showed up. It's so amusing to me that they wrote themselves into such a corner with Edelgard they just yeeted her brain lamo.

ZAHRAS

Arval is talking to Arval.

Dark Arval created Normal Arval because Dark Arval wanted typical TWSITD nonsense, domination, restore the world to TWSITD, etc . . .

And in the most shocking twist, Normal Arval is programmed to kill Sothis, so therefore Byleth, and while Arval took over Shez.

Oh, Shez woke up! And Claude's there with Dimitri.

So they all got sent to this Zahras place.

Shez doesn't have a lot of memory of what just happened, and tells Claude and Dimitri about Arval, who's gone though.

Now they have to find a way out of this mess.

Dimitri found Edelgard. Since there's like 4 people, no one plans on fighting each other until they get out. Then it's time to kill people.

So Edelgard doesn't remember what happened and got some spell cast on her by TWSITD.

Claude cheerily tells her what a fuck up her country is lamo.

There's this mini map with the 3 lords just standing there, chilling, in this dark abyss place. It's pretty funny looking.

All my other units are gone, but I expected that. Dimitri's my most overpowered unit anyways.

DIMITRI & CLAUDE

Is this like some kind of support?

So AG Claude wants to get rid of the central church and kill Rhea. Like, I'm down for removing any sort of political power from a religious institution, but this fixation on Rhea is weird.

Lamo, is this game serious? Did it really just blame nobility and arrange marriage on Rhea?? OMG.

I knew Claude went completely dodo bird in this game, but he somehow became even more of an idiot?

I'm kind of impressed lol.

He drank the Edelgard koolaide.

Dimitri's like, well, as long as you just dislike the church and not Faerghus.

It's interesting for Dimitri to acknowledge that his personal beliefs and his beliefs as a king are sometimes at war.

He also lays out why Claude's plan is an awful idea. Meaning, all the death and suffering he'll cause.

It's just a classic, Claude is too rash - Dimitri is too cautious.

Claude tells Dimitri that he's too good for him. And that they could've been friends if kingly stuff didn't get in the way.

It's overall a fine support, except this absurd idea that the church is solely responsible for stuff human nature always comes up with, and I think it's more a symptom of a huge flaw in the Fodlan games as a whole than anything else.

DIMITRI & EDELGARD

Dimitri finds it hard to talk to Edelgard because of all the people she's caused the death of. But way more polite.

Edelgard doesn't feel that way. Which, not surprised. She doesn't really care too much about the people who've died like he does.

Lamo, she also is way less polite and is like "you don't want to talk to the tyrant who's gotten everyone killed." See, though, it's acknowledgements like this that make me like this game more. She knows that's what she looks like to everyone not in Adrestia.

Dimitri gets annoyed with her for placing words in his mouth. And good for him. That's always annoying.

Edelgard is less confident than Dimitri that he has no regrets of his actions and carefully considered all of them.

Oh, good, Dimitri asks about Patricia. But Edelgard doesn't know what happened either. So, still no answers about her.

Dimitri wants to just end the conversation. I am loving how much he really doesn't want to talk to her. It's so different from Claude who he was curious about.

She falls down because dark magic place does it's thing, then helps her stand up, and they get a picture, which is cool.

It reminds her of when she fell once and took the help without thinking about it. Now she thinks about it.

Dimitri remembers helping a girl up.

I see where this is going, but it's funny such a mundane thing will trigger important memories, lamo.

Edelgard is like, yeah, knowing you, you probably helped a lot of people get up who fell down.

I'm living for these supports acknowledging that Dimitri's a way better person than the other two lol.

He's like, naw, it was you. Edelgard keeps insisting it wasn't her.

He calls her El at the end.

Is this the same support in SB? It works for AG, but man, this asshole just killed Sylvain (and Annette, and Gilbert, and Ingrid, and Rodrigue, and tons of other people from Faerghus simply bc she wants that land back), so I'd be furious seeing it there.

In AG, though, it makes sense.

BACK TO THE CHAPTER

Dimitri's the only one who asks about Shez's wellbeing. Does their dialogue change in different routes?

Oh, cool, I had some access to stuff like the blacksmith, which makes no sense, but ok.

Bad Arval showed up behind Shez, but she alludes it.

Arval says none can escape. But I doubt it.

Dimitri's like, that's bullshit, bc there's no way they'd build this without a way out, and if they can get out, so can we.

And then Dimitri's proved right when Arval says he'll leave, alone.

Ok, I learned this other Arval's name, but I am not going to spell all of that.

So like, after this, do they all just go back to war? Because if they do . . . lol.

They let you use all the 3 lords, but I'll probably only use Shez and Dimitri. Neither Edelgard nor Claude impressed me much when I started this game (and at the time I started, I liked Claude a lot more than I do now).

Oh, so a dark Hubert, Hilda, and Felix showed up. A bit sad it wasn't Dedue, though. I feel like he deserved to be the BL rep even if Felix is more popular. But maybe it was for variety? Like Dedue is another axe like Hilda, but then switch Claude's people out.

At the same time, Felix makes sense, esp in Hopes. He and Dimitri are practically married lol.

Dimitri's like, that's not Felix. He wouldn't get mad at me for doing this and not avenging people. He's not wrong.

Ohhh, not they're fighting phantom versions of themselves.

They had some throwaway lines explaining why Edelgard is normal now.

Lamo, Edelgard doesn't trust herself.

Meanwhile . . . Dimitri . . . is like, really excited about this. Because he gets to kill a version of himself. :((((

Claude's line wasn't as interesting as the other two. I know. Shocking. /s

Dimitri wants to thank Arval for letting him fight and kill himself. I cannot with this man.

Evil Claude just about totaled regular Claude. Edelgard isn't scratched though.

Edelgard and Claude were way more normal about reactions to fighting themselves lol.

I had to make Claude an adjunct. He was nearly dead. It's actually surprising how much worse he is than Edelgard. (Dimitri's not fair to rate against them since he's more built out and not dropped into this map for a one-time battle).

Ok, he summoned more dudes to protect him, and one was a Shez copy the other Dedue. So Dedue got credit too. So now I'm less conflicted about Felix making an appearance.

Shez is upset at fighting herself.

Dimitri feels awful about fighting the shades this time. He's only motivated by all the people he's kept alive in real life.

I defeated Epimedes. That seemed too easy.

Cut scene fight between Shez and Epi. It's pretty badass looking in the dark magic place with falling rocks everywhere. Like, in a cheesy but just roll with it way.

Shez wins. Arval pops back up and they almost hold hands. Arval's never felt more alone :( Honestly, kinda sad things end badly for them. So not recruiting Byleth gives Arval a better ending? Will Arval not be there in the final map before the final battle?

They escaped!

Dimitri's like "it felt like a strange fever dream" and honestly, not a bad way to describe it.

They lost Edelgard and are we back to the normal stuff? Oh, no Shez asks to go back to the search for her and the others. Claude wants to get back to his people too.

Ok, so moving onto the final chapter now.

holy fuck i cant even believe i have to say this but edelgard did not deserve what happened to her in azure gleam.

nobody, and i mean nobody deserves to be completely stripped of their autonomy and essentially reduced to a child. i don’t care what you think about edelgard or which house is your favorite - i myself am a hardcore blue lions fan. she couldn’t think or act for herself at all; she was completely controlled by thales. nobody fucking deserves that.

So I actually love how so many of the Dimidue moments in Three Hopes are direct references or callbacks to the original 3H, some of which actually shed some light on things that happened in 3H which we were sort of ambiguous.

The big one is their A support, where Dimitri asks if Dedue would take vengeance for him, even if he begged him to go on and live a peaceful and happy life without him, and Dedue tells him he would always seek vengeance for him. Which is so massively meaningful, because Dedue so rarely defies Dimitri's wishes. In fact, the only time I can think of off the top of my head is that Dedue refuses to call Dimitri by name. Even then, it's 100% for Dimitri's benefit and he eventually acquiesces to that (either in a tender, possibly shirtless moment, or as his last gasp of humanity before turning into a beast).

Anyway, I think a big part of why Dedue never refuses Dimitri's wishes is because he knows Dimitri would never force him to do anything he could not abide by.

So, that means there is an order he could not force himself to carry out, and he feels so strongly about it that he's willing to tell Dimitri to his face that he could never abide by it. Something he has almost never done before. And it's not because he doesn't want to follow Dimitri's wishes, but because he loves Dimitri so strongly that he doesn't believe he could ever be happy if he wasn't around.

And this is of course referencing the original 3H where Dedue does exactly what he says he would in this support. In Verdant Wind and Silver Snow he survives Gronder. Dimitri doesn't tell him to seek vengeance, and you could even argue that Dedue doing something as dangerous as joining the fight in Enbarr goes directly against Dimitri's wishes that he live. It retroactively makes those scenes much sadder, realizing that Dedue did it because he is just as broken by Dimitri's death as Dimitri was by his. (I mean, we all kind of figured, but this is direct confirmation)

You can also attach this to their ending. Although Dimitri would want Dedue to go on and live out the rest of his life happily without him, Dedue remains by his grave until the day he dies. And then they're buried together. They are eternally together. Eternally happy.

I have to say that the worst thing in canon in my opinion (HEAVY SPOILERS FOR FIRE EMBLEM: THREE HOPES in case someone hasn't finished it) is:

What they did to Edelgard in Azure Gleam. It was just... really upsetting on so many levels. Edelgard is a character who did a lot for me, especially the fact that she gets to have a happy ending. Her being robbed of that was absolutely awful and honestly made me feel incredibly down. I can only imagine that's the case for a lot of people who relate to her (i'm especially thinking about people who look up to her because she's an abuse survivor). Add to that people saying that she deserved it or it's the only way for her to get her redemption... live or let live i guess but... personally it makes me extremely uncomfortable, which is one of the reasons i try my best to steer clear of this kind of opinions.

A GW/AG Ferdinand (and a bit of Hubert) timeline

While the latter events don’t happen in GW, GW just makes what happened to AG!Ferdinand all the more sadder...

(And yes, yes, Jeralt’s mercs were doing some other stuff in AG part 1 but I suppose you can brush it off as other mercs or whatever)

So before the Alliance attack, we have AG!Hubert getting his ass kicked in Ailell because he attempted a 1 vs 12

True to Claude’s prediction, after Ferdinand’s retreat in GW he also shows up again for the last time as a general in a side map in the next chapter

....And then we get to AG.

All we get later are mentions of Ferdinand and Hubert’s disappearances.

And that’s all she wrote :/ They could’ve at least had Thales taunt the player about their fate, or had npcs talk about an empire rebellion brewing or just drop two demonic beasts onto a main map geez

Meanwhile in GW, you also don’t see Ferdinand again but things are much more optimistic because they all don’t get fridged for one

Edelgard and Hubert gets to raid Shambhala during the game for once with Ferdinand and Monica! .....Wish they just made it playable tho

While there’s no mention of the rebellion, since the riots happen in both SB and GW and the Twin Jewels conspicuously don’t show up in Garreg Mach, I like to assume that they were taking care of the Ludwig problem together instead :D

If Seteth “dies” in part 1, he actually remains around the camp and for cutscenes until part 2 where...

(Jeralt death right after recruiting him considering how late in AG this happens I wonder about the dialogue in SB/GW)

(Not a classic mode death but here’s the dialogue for not recruiting Jeritza anyway)

Other tidbits are:

If Lorenz dies immediately, it doesn’t affect the dialogue of Erwin mentioning he received news from him in ch 9

If any of the Deers are killed, the dialogue describing Hilda’s care package for them is cut off completely but the npc still remains even if all the Deers are dead

If Sylvain (and in my run also Ingrid) is dead, no one mentions Sylvain when Miklan is brought up

Even though Seteth technically can’t die in part 1, his not-death will still lock Dorothea’s final Flayn support

Not exactly a death fact but everyone else being dead makes it pretty obvious that Mercedes doesn’t show up to many of the class war council cutscenes....

While we're on the subject, the one thing I can defend from your reviewpost is that Edelgard being a shell of her former self isn't *necessarily* a case of bad writing. Her obsession with being in control of her destiny is what made her turn against the church, the crest system, and start the war in the game. She was always on the mindset of "either win the war or die fighting", but she never expected to just lose control of her own actions, which is a crueler fate, and more fitting for her.

This is not a bad take but I vehemently disagree with it, I'm sorry. To me, it was a case of "we can't make this character sympathetic in any other way than lobotomizing her" which not only has really weird vibes when she broke out the baby voice, but it removes all conflict. Dimitri gets treated with baby gloves by not having to confront Edelgard and ultimately kill her. The game has no interest in actually giving him difficult choices. I can't see it as punishment for Edelgard's character either, especially since she does deal with the knowledge that she's been essentially comatose and used against her will for months in a decently stoic way while they're in the void. It's just cheap emotional manipulation that strips the Dimitri / Edelgard dynamic of stakes and tension and is supposed to make the player feel bad for her.

It MIGHT have worked if this broken shell of Edelgard was confronted by a completely unhinged, revenge driven Dimitri. It would be an interesting show of how they had both been reduced to becoming their worst fears by Slithers, adding the tension of what feral Dimitri would do in that situation. It could be interesting to see his reaction when confronted with hollow fulfillment, a situation that stripped away everything he hoped to gain from revenge. It might have even been interesting if Rhea stepped in to kill Edelgard and Dimitri defended her, demanding that they attempt to restore her mind before bestowing punishment in a move that would be both kind and intensely cruel AND be an inversion of the game's scenario thus far.

And, actually, you know what? I kind of do feel bad for Edelgard. She has very little else going for her but damn if she wasn't a compelling villain and a perfect compliment to both Dimitri and Rhea. I can't say if it was on purpose but the creepy uncomfortable vibe of making her a brainless doll was super icky and follows a trend of the gross way Edelgard is sexualized sometimes. I just don't think that was the move and left a bad taste in my mouth.

Another Edelgard Rarepair Week WIP!

The second fic I decided to work on is a sequel to my Azure Gleam Ferdigard fic https://archiveofourown.org/works/42431343, which explores a scenario where Ferdinand helps Edelgard escape from Garreg Mach and it talks about their collective grief.

While this fic is a still relatively melancholy, I wanted to add hope looking toward the future for these two. But we're not quite there yet~

Azure Gleam and Golden Wildfire spoilers below

It's kind of a relief to be playing golden wildfire after azure gleam. I'm aware that Claude makes some VERY questionable decisions (also Gloucester commits a war crime in chapter five lmao) but azure gleam was so fucking bleak. Seeing Edelgard reduced to a shell and all of the empire just trudging along, knowing she's not really there, was such a bummer. It just isn't fun to battle a villain that isn't motivated.

Until you invade them, of course. And while what you're doing in AG when you invade the empire is just as justified as what you do in SB (if not more so) it's framed in such a heavy and awful way that I felt shitty playing it. Also killing Fleche as the other characters comment on how young she is really sucks.

And again, I don't think it's an issue inherent to the route so much as how it's presented. I struggle to see how anyone could feel like AG isn't kind of a buzzkill. Like, even if you hated Edelgard, wouldn't you rather take her out when she's herself? Victory against her just feels so hollow. Even if she was turned into Hegemon Edelgard it'd be more fun because at least then you're fighting a tragic monster. Battling Edelgard at the end of AG feels like I'm battling a trauma victim being forced to fight via her mind-controlling uncle because that's what's happening.

Listen, FE3H and FEW3H has some heavy shit in it. You're supposed to feel things and to some extent question the value of what you're doing. But everything you do in AG is more or less justified. It just sucks.

Azure Gleam Ch 11

Spoilers below for AG Ch 11.

STORY

RODRIGUE is back. You have no idea how happy I am that he got more screen time (and is now playable!)

Ashe's not happy that some nobles kept their titles after turning coat, but they can't afford the chaos changing things would create right now, but they plan to in the future.

I am living for the Big Dad energy Rodrigue always has.

Do we get to kill Caspar's Dad? Please let me kill Caspar's dad.

Felix asking the right questions - asking if they can trust Claude. Annette doesn't trust Claude. Ingrid neither, but doesn't think he's as bad as Annette and Felix.

Gustave and the Knights of Serios are keeping the Alliance in check.

Once again, people asking if Dimitri can kill his step-sister. But Dimitri's like, guys, I killed Rufus. I can handle it.

Ohh, a letter from Patricia? If it doesn't have new info, why bring it up? Something disturbing. Confirmation she was always bad.

Yep, she helped plot Duscur. I mean, we all guessed she was an awful human being, so now we know.

Like, I don't blame Patricia for missing Edelgard or whatever, but setting your child step-son to get butchered alongside tons of other innocent people is straight-up evil.

Dimitri's worried about Shez, and she's opening up to him. It's pretty sweet. It's also so sweet how much they trust Shez even if she doesn't trust herself.

Honestly, Dimitri and Shez are so cute, as friends or more, it doesn't matter, they have a great relationship.

Shez would rather die than kill her friends 😭 We won't let that happen (it better not happen)

MAP/SIDE BATTLES

Seteth said he trusts me 😭😭😭

Rodrigue got to say two things this time, which means he made up for lost time last chapter.

Ok guys, Shamir just went up in my books. She said as a mercenary she'll get hired to kill anyone, but prefers killing bad guys, like the Empire. I love it. She hasn't said anything like this in GW or SB.

SHEZ & RODRIGUE B

LAMO, omg, I love Shez.

So it starts with Rodrigue taking Shez very seriously as Shez talks about how the war may be over by next winter because she . . . wants to have a snowball fight, like all the Kingdom kids got to do.

It's actually kind of sweet, seeing Shez want to just play and have fun with the Blue Lions.

Rodrigue, of course, love the idea.

And takes snowball fighting too seriously, talking strategy. Of a snowball fight. OMG I love this. I love him.

He'd do full-out battle with Lambert and go with kids.

Rodrigue lost, lamo.

So Lambert would rush into battle alone, and Shez thinks like father like son with Dimitri.

I also love how Rodrigue thinks Gautier is cowardly for laying and ambush for Lambert, but is totally fine with his own sneaking and waiting to strike.

It ended with them getting cussed out by Ingrid's dad for not taking the mountain seriously.

Shez can invite Rodrigue to join in.

Oh, man, I wish I got to see this fight. I can only imagine Felix when he realizes Rodrigue is involved and thinking it's dumb for taking it seriously, then taking it seriously. Ingrid being an absolute tyrant ordering people to follow her strategies. Dimitri scared he'll knock someone's teeth out. Mercedes being absolutely savage. And so on...

DIMITRI & YURI C

Excited for this.

Yuri's told a "funny knight" who's really strong is helping everyone out who sometimes sounds sheltered and obtuse and sometimes not. Yep. It's Dimitri.

Yuri's not happy seeing Dimitri in dangerous allies. Worried about him. But Dimitri wants to learn how the commoners live so he can help them rule better.

OMG, Yuri's like "you don't have an heir," worried about the civil war that will happen if Dimitri dies.

Yuri is determined for Dimitri to live a long and happy life because the people of Faerghus like Dimitri and Yuri likes the commonfolk of Faerghus.

Also love how Yuri points out that if war breaks out, nobles will die, but commoners get slaughtered. Wish he'd tell Edelgard that.

Haha, he says to bring Dedue at least.

OMG, I love Dimitri. He then just asks Yuri to be his bodyguard.

And Dimitri won't ask Dedue because he knows Dedue will just forbid Dimitri from coming, like a nanny, lol.

Yuri's entertained that Dimitri asked him to be a bodyguard.

SYLVAIN & DEDUE B

Dedue is impressed with Sylvain for interacting with a woman like a normal person lamo.

"Don't expect praise for merely doing your job." I love Dedue. That's savage af.

Sylvain was motivated to mature by Felix and Dimitri. He said they're both like brothers, which is why he wouldn't get left behind. I love this group.

Felix got into a fight with soldiers . . . . because they were making fun of Sylvain.

Felix called it the "worst decision in his life." Of course. Felix being Felix.

Felix didn't tell Sylvain because he was worried about Sylvain hearing the details about what people said about him.

I love the idea of Felix getting into a fist-fight with people insulting Sylvain lamo.

Sylvain thinks he deserves his bad reputation because of who he used to be. Felix challenged why Sylvain didn't change sooner. Sylvain has no defense lol.

Felix is ok with people making fun of Sylvain, but only certain people lamo.

Felix is blushing after saying something nice lol. Now he's pissed at Sylvain. And insulting him. Very typical Felix.

Sylvain says he's 7% more cunning than Felix lamo.

This one did go more into ship bait. I was surprised how un-shippy their C was, but I'm sure Sylvix fans loved this one.

DIMITRI & MERCEDES A

They're traveling to a village together. It's the one Mercedes used to live in. Dimitri likes how calm it is.

Mercie called Dimitri her friend 😭😭

Dimitri claims he's a king's knight lol. He catches himself. Also village woman finds Dimitri handsome. She has taste.

Mercedes and Dimitri talk about how open minded the church is and give credit to the overall teachings (lamo, eat shit, Claude)

Mercedes is grateful to Dimitri to taking in the Central Church because it helped the village out. It's why she brought him there, so he could see the good that comes from protecting the church.

Mercedes plans to show him around the town and introduce Dimitri to her mother and the priest.

Dimitri's nervous lol. Hahaha, Mercie says she'll tell him he's someone "very important" which flusters him lamo.

She made him laugh and smile.

This support was adorable. (and feels like it couldn't possibly be the same writers as SB and GW lamo)

MERCEDES & DEDUE B

Sad they only get one support. Their Houses one was amazing.

Mercedes is teaching cooking. The little girl gets scared of Dedue when he arrives to fetch Mercie.

Poor Dedue frightens children and animals :(

Mercie says lots of the kids are orphans, so they're scared, and that Dedue looks intimidating. She has a plan to make him not look as scary.

I KNEW IT! He's handing out flower crowns. I was going to say it was something with flowers.

Now all the kids love Dedue. Good. He's the sweetest man in Fodlan.

Dedue teaches them how to make the crowns.

Dedue is happy with Mercedes, but Mercie says it was Dedue's kindness who won them over. Of course they both give each other credit.

They both have such strong mom and dad energy.

SHEZ & ANNETTE A

Annette's up late working on music lol. Shez thinks the notes look like bugs lol.

Annette won't sing it though :( Her songs are legendary.

She wants a song that makes people feel happy when they sing it. Very Annette.

She heard the song Shez passed around getting sung by a dying mercenary, who died happy though because they appreciated the song. It made Annette appreciate the song more.

She is such a sweetie.

It's sweet to have a whole support revolve around Annette realizing her songs make people happy and help people. She'd love that.

OMG, I love Annette. Her new song is about a feast, then they go to get more ingredients, and then get into a death battle with a bear. Truly a child of Faerghus.

RAPHAEL & FELIX C

Raphael is drooling over Felix's food, so he gives it to Raphael, and Felix offers to go buy more.

Felix thinks he hears thunder, but it's just Raphael's stomach.

Felix is being nice, lol, insisting Raphael eat some of his food.

But now he's annoyed that Raphael called him a "meat buddy" or a bit. Felix likes the idea of hunting that Raphael suggested.

Raphael is so nice not even Felix can manage to get mad at him.

SYLVAIN & IGNATZ C

Sylvain feels bad because he interrupted Ignatz painting. He wanted Ignatz to look at a painting he brought home.

Sylvain knows painting styles (he knows it's not a common Faerghus style). But ofc Sylvain is interested in how pretty the woman in the painting is lamo.

He's curious about the woman's identity, but it doesn't seem in a fuck boy way, but a curiosity over a favorite piece of art way.

That Sylvain is into art just made him even cooler.

Religious art often has their symbols in the art (and Flayn's is fish lamo, good).

As a major art fan, I love this support adding little tid bits about Fodlan art.

Lamo, Sylvain studied art to impress ladies at first, but now he actually likes it.

SETETH & YURI C

Yuri chatted with a scholar, wanting to learn about the 10 elites because he didn't get a good education.

It's a support to explain how crests came to be and their powers

Yuri trusts Seteth with his crest secrets (partly because he knows Seteth already knows, and partly bc Yuri has taste)

Seteth encourages Yuri to cherish his crest and the power it brings

So is Yuri the son of an elite or something?

FLAYN & SHEZ B

Flayn thinks Shez looks good because she's dirty and that suites her lol. I love Flayn.

Flayn is wearing perfume. Seteth probably doesn't know lamo.

Flayn talks about how perfumes coming in trend shows that even in dark times, it's not all consuming. Very Flayn of her.

We're going trend shopping. She doesn't get to shop often.

Flayn is straight-up making shit up, lamo. She invented that Shez wanted to shop to raise Shez's spirits, not hers.

It's this more -uh - questionable side of Flayn that keeps her from being a one-note, overly sweet character. I love it.

CATHERINE & SHEZ C

Count Charon asks Catherine for more soldiers, but only Dimitri or Rhea could give that order.

Shez didn't know Catherine's family. She stays vague about it when Shez asks about her past.

Catherine, unsurprisingly, says she'd fight for Rhea if had to choose between her or her family.

Catherine asks why Shez is here. Oh, I can pick too - for friends, money, or to fight Byleth. Def picking friends. I think that suits AG Shez best.

Catherine looks happy with that answer.

Oh, I like that, live in a way that makes your past self proud.

ASHE & FELIX B

Their only support.

Oh, Felix is confronting Ashe about how he's a knight working for Dimitri. Should've known it would be about this.

Ashe defends Felix when he calls Dimitri a boar and tiresome lol.

Ashe says Dimitri does his job for him, omg, Dimitri, stop (but that's he's getting better).

Felix is like - you have to steal your job back from him!!! Use force if you have too - I love this, lamo

Dimitri promoted a lot of commoners to be knights, and there were some minor misunderstandings at first, but now no one cares

Felix asks Ashe if he's a noble or commoner, and Ashe is like kinda both actually, which is true

Awww, Dedue comes to Ashe's aids when he needs it (and Dimitri, but Ashe mentioned Dedue too)

And now Ashe is singing Dedue's praises, and ofc Felix insults Dedue, saying that blind loyalty will get him killed

And omg hahaha, Ashe is like that's sweet Felix, that you care about us, I always knew

I love how almost no one takes Felix's tsun seriously. They're all like "aww, look, he's chewing my old slipper!" energy

Ashe putting Felix in his place round 2, I love this. Ashe and Felix is always gold

Felix is like, it's just because more work for me if something happens to you!

Then he's finally nice, telling Ashe he does a good job

ANNETTE & SYLVAIN B

Their only support

This time it's Sylvain who catches Annette singing. Annette seems relieved rather than embarrassed.

Sylvain thinks her song is creepy (covers that, saying creative) and that only Annette could make it (affectionate - maybe)

Why is Annette always singing about swamp beasties?

Sylvain wants a song about something cute instead, so Annette naturally jumps to huge bears lamo

We need an Annette Bernedetta support about finding creepy stuff cute

Annette doesn't seem upset with criticism

Also, this is the second time Sylvain talks to Annette like a person and doesn't really flirt with her, more like siblings vibes it's cute

DIMITRI/RODRIGUE/SYLVAIN PARALOGUE

This one is easy since all 3 are leveled up. I want to do other ones, but I may wait to save some cash lol.

They're up north, so Sreng? Yep.

So they're preparing for a Sreng raid.

So a hostage that grew up in Faerghus is now leading the raid. And Margrave Gautier treated him well even though he felt bitter about Sreng killing his wife. So Miklain's mother?

And now the Sreng hostage is using Fodlan knowledge against them.

Haha, Sylvain was going off about being lazy forgetting his dad was right there lol.

It's cool seeing papa Gautier and Rodrigue together.

The Sreng commander really came across like a dick. Rubbing in Miklain's death, not caring about all the men he got killed.

So did Claude do this in AG too? Incite Sreng? They guess Cornelia and someone from Adrestia too, which could be the case in AG.

Gautier takes credit for the fall. Sylvain got through to the guy apparently.

Dimitri's just happy they share a language now. He would know how important that is since he learned the language of Duscur.

I'm glad they fight over land. It's way more interesting and realistic than whatever the hell they did with Almyra.

Aww, Sylvain is dedicated to reaching peace with Sreng. Of course his dad is harder edged because they killed his wife.

Sylvain being so bent on peace and diplomacy just makes the people who claim he makes sense in CF make even less sense.

I had Shez believe in Sylvain, because AG!Shez is nice Shez.

Sylvain and Dimitri both hate resorting to violence and using warfare first. Both want to avoid it at all cost. I like the future of these two both being important in Faerghus.

Oh, cool, talk between Rodrigue and Matthais. I love the little stories we get of all of them. They were trouble makers lamo. They snuck out the night of the festivities.

Lambert wanted peace with Sreng and Duscur. Dimitri's half-way there, and he and Sylvain are working on the other half.

Gautier now agrees with Sylvain, Lambert, and Dimitri and a pathway to peace.

Aww, Rodrigue advised that he apologize to Sylvain, and he's going too.

Oh, I got the lance of ruin! Cool. Sylvain has his weapon now.

FINAL BATTLE

Not Dimitri being more understanding of the Empire nobles who''ll follow any leader that promises them more land than Edelgard does him and the other Blue Lions

He's thinking from the other's perspective, how it looks to them, not what it actually is - Claude and Edelgard could never

Shez is like, no need to feel guilty, hell yes

Felix is worried about Dimitri, in his very Felix way, meanwhile Dedue is like "we trust you"

I love so much that the importance of his friends' support is stressed so much more in AG.

Oh, I get Constance and Linhardt this battle. Cool.

Felix got lectured by Rodrigue lamo, he wanted to break ranks to chase after Monica

Lamo, Manuela's defeat quote is that she won't die single. Ngl, glad she just retreated.

It's really something that the Blue Lions show way more sympathy towards their enemy than the other routes do. They're the only ones that feel guilty for "invading." When the others are invading.

Glad they're bringing up that if they don't do this, Adrestia will not stop until Faerghus is destroyed.

Rodrigue has such a nice voice.

Felix got angry with Rodrigue when he said all the blame for invading will fall on Dimitri, but then Rodrigue said it's up to Felix to support him through it. This really is Dimilix the route, lamo.

Felix is like, duh.

Why is Shez talking to Rodrigue while it's late. I'm getting flashbacks. He died last time this happened.

They're both worried about Dimitri. And it's cannon that Dimitri falls asleep at his desk. Sooo much fanart of that lol.

Apparently Lambert did the same. Like father, like son.

Lambert had a shorter temper than Dimitri, but are very similar. Unlike Rodrigue and Felix. I get to disagree with Rodrigue there, so I will. Because I think they're more alike than they both think.

Ok guys, we finally got it. Why Felix is miserable outside of AM. He can't live without a great purpose pushing him forward. And in SS, VW, and CF he finds no great purpose, unlike in AM where working with Dimitri towards his version of the future does work.

When Lambert died, Rodrigue struggled to find another reason for being. So he devoted himself to his promise to Lambert, to make sure he sets his won back on his proper path is he loses his way.

Shez feels like Dimitri's been helping her, but she's helping Dimitri too. Like what Rodrigue is doing.

Rodrigue says he's only Dimitri's retainer, that's so false. But he says Shez is in a unique spot since she's a friend first, then he's her leader. Which makes me happy.

More teasing about Shez's origins.

Rodrigue says though that Shez's background or powers aren't what's important, it's about who Shez is as a person. I love so much how the Blue Lions keep repeating this idea, that it's not Byleth's or Shez's power. It's their worth as a person that matters.

Arval just called Rodrigue a wonderful human being. Based.

im half asleep but i want to give my thoughts on azure gleam seteth

when i first played i was like "oh it makes sense he doesnt get close to people because he's not being pushed out of his comfort zone like in three houses and that's fine, just goes to show how important byleth was for his development" but now i think the writers just conveniently shoved him, rhea and flayn out of the main story that was originally set up because they're too relevant to it, ultimately dimitri & co have very little to do with TWSITD while the nabateans have everything to do with them. as if that wasn't enough, byleth actually can join us—green hair and all, and that has nothing to do with the "main characters" of the route and everything to do with the nabatean characters, but it would have been too big to deal with so nothing happened instead. i enjoyed azure gleam a lot for the dimitri & co content, but shez's plot felt like it had a lot of buildup that lead to nothing because she wasn't allowed to actually be the protagonist in her own game and that makes me a little sad. it's like the game wasn't about shez at all in favor of (great) fanservice and well, seteth suffered for it too because he would've been extremely plot relevant if the game had actually went through with the plot it set up at the beginning. i understand these things just didn't fit with the concept of the game that they were making and i'm immensely thankful to already have a game where seteth is a key player in the plot (even if most of the fandom refuses to acknowledge this) but i feel sad enough that i may write some fix-it fanfic about it 🤣

The more I think about it, the more I think the Dimidue handh*lding cutscene from Azure Gleam Chapter 7 might just be a parallel to Dimidue's CF death scene. The one you get if you kill Dedue before he turns into a beast. Y'know, the really gay one.

The CF Scene:

Dimitri: Dedue… It seems I will die…before I can get revenge for everyone…

Dedue: ...

Dimitri: My family, my friends, my home… Everything that truly mattered to me… I couldn't…

Dedue: You're wrong! Because of you, I was able to live on until today. You saved me. These past nine years… I am proud to have been at your side. It was a joy I never could have hoped for. Despite all, I count myself a lucky man.

Dimitri, smiling: Is that so? I see… I am glad…

The Azure Gleam scene:

Shez: They're gonna kill you in here, Dimitri!

*Dedue takes his hand and forcibly puts it on the lance*

*Dimitri grasps the lance more firmly by himself, scene cuts to him wrecking house*

So basically:

In CF, Dedue is convincing a Dimitri who desperately wants to live that it's okay for him to die. In AG, Dedue is convincing a Dimitri who desperately wants to die that it's okay to live.

In both instances he also uses himself as the primary justification ("you can die without regrets because even if you couldn't save everyone, you were at least able to save me" vs. "you can live without worry because I will always be by your side to help you")
