Alexandre Lacazette, Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata: The Premier League’s new powerhouses.
This summer, the Premier League has been graced with many new exciting signings, which will make the 2017/18 season a fascinating encounter between the top clubs in England. Many sides have spent millions upon millions on experienced players in which they hope to improve their attempts on challenging for the Premier League title come the end of the year. Over the last few years, Premier League clubs have focused their attention on the defensive department within their squad but this summer transfer window has seen title challengers focus their efforts on a different department, this being the strikers. The Gunners have broken their transfer record bringing Alexandre Lacazette from French giants Lyon. Lacazette has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe in recent years scoring 76 league goals over the last three seasons. The Frenchman has already played three pre-season matches for Arsenal including a friendly against Bayern Munich and during this game, Lacazette showed his flexibility and power against a strong Bayern defence. His combination play with Mesut Ozil showed that they both will be a threat to any side the Gunners come up against. Another major factor within Lacazette’s play that has stood out during this pre season is the intelligence of his movement. The Frenchman has no weakness within this aspect of his gameplay, with or without the ball, his trickiness and speed makes defenders uneasy and rush into tackles. Not only does Lacazette bring something special on the pitch but he also brings something completely different to the club. After years of searching for an out and out striker, the Arsenal fans finally have someone to look forward to watching and they will also feel a sense of relief that the club and Arsene Wenger have spent big money on a player that is worthy of it. Alexandre Lacazette is a tremendous signing for Arsenal and the 2017-18 could be an exciting season for the North London club. From Alexandre Lacazette, we move to the Belgium giant, Romelu Lukaku. Romelu Lukaku has been a striker that European giants have wanted within their ranks for many years and Manchester United have won the battle to sign him. Lukaku arrived from Everton in a deal reportedly worth £75million, having scored 26 Premier League goals last season and 53 in total after leaving Chelsea in 2014. The Belgian striker has already netted twice on the pre-season tour of the United States scoring against Real Salt Lake and Manchester City showing that he has instantly fit into Jose Mourinho’s way of life at Manchester United. Lukaku has shown over many years in the Premier League that he is a hugely physical and talented in front of goal scoring all sorts of goals from headers to free kicks. The Belgian gives defenders a torrid time during games, bullying them into making a decision they would not make with any other striker, this is exactly what Lukaku wants. Lukaku feeds off defenders giving him space, as soon as he gets this, he will punish any opposition using his power, speed and dribbling. Romelu Lukaku is a very different striker to what Manchester United fans are used to, he will be following in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie who were born goalscorers that would normally be in the right position at the right time whereas the Belgian struggles with this at times. Lukaku is a striker that may need getting used to for fans and will also frustrate them in a few games but come the end of the season, he may be a hugely important addition to a side that are planning to challenge for the Premier League title come May. Lastly, we end with Spain International and Chelsea’s new number 9, Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard signed for Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth £58m after a season, which saw the striker re-join Real Madrid from Italian giants Juventus. Morata had a hugely successful season at Real Madrid scoring 20 goals despite majorly contributing to the side from the bench. Only Cristiano Ronaldo won more points (15) for Real Madrid than Alvaro Morata last season winning 13 points and proving that the giant striker is not a small game player. Morata has not played any pre-season games for Chelsea yet but is expected to join up with the squad and make his debut against Bayern Munich in Singapore. Although we have not had the chance to watch the new number 9 in a Chelsea shirt, his words towards the club show that he is not going to back down from this challenge of the Premier League. The Spaniard said in April that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, who was instrumental in persuading him to sign for Juve, had given him self-belief and that he was looking forward to working with the Italian one day and that he has come to Chelsea to “grow up”. Chelsea number 9’s have never been a great success but Alvaro Morata has something different about him, he is young and a born goalscorer and with the players surrounding him at Chelsea, he is sure to have a hugely successful stay at the Premier League Champions. Overall, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have all hired brilliant strikers that naturally love to put the ball in the back of the net. This summer has got every fan licking their lips at the excitement the 2017-18 season will hold and these three sides will be right up there at the end of the season with plans of lifting the Premier League trophy but which one of these strikers will be lifting it come May? That’s for you to decide. Max Tenwick

FC Bayern: Secret veto clause for James Rodriguez?

FC Bayern: Secret veto clause for James Rodriguez?
Tumblr media
Does James Rodriguez have a secret veto clause to return to Madrid in 2019? Niko Kovac finds praising words about his transition captain Franck Ribery. The rumors about Anthony Martial are fired again and Bastian Schweinsteiger praises the development in the USA. All news about FC Bayern can be found here.
FCB CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has never tired of stressing that Bavaria will take the option for James Rodriguez in the summer of 2019 and thus firmly commit the Colombian. However, the playmaker is said to have an unknown back door.
According to a Marca report, James has the opportunity to return to Madrid after the end of the coming season because he allegedly has a veto right against the Bavarians’ obligation.
The Bavarians would also refrain from a firm commitment if James absolutely wants to return to Madrid, the Marca wants to know. The risk of investing 42 million euros in a player who doesn’t want to be in Munich should then be too great for Bavaria.
Franck Ribery is currently wearing the captain’s armband for the Bavarians in the absence of Manuel Neuer on his trip to the USA and coach Niko Kovac thinks that the Frenchman is doing really well as a role model. “He was totally annoyed that we were down 2-0. This shows his character and his attitude to his profession,” Kovac told Sport1 after the bankruptcy of Juve.
“He wants to win every game, whether it’s a test game or a game in practice. I’m glad to have such a good player in terms of quality and character.” The wingman confirmed his coach’s words. “Of course, it was just a friendly match, but I always want to win. We have worked well so far. It’s not perfect yet.”
Ribery, 35 years old, wants to set an example, especially for the many young players who took part in the trip to the USA. “We have many young players with us. The boys are doing well, we have to be positive with them. The atmosphere is always good.”
English media report that Martial has cancelled the trip to the USA with Manchester United. But there is a simple reason for this. The Frenchman wanted to be present at the birth of his son. Jose Mourinho, however, is said not to have been very enthusiastic about this, according to Telegraph, which should make an exit more likely.
So Martial isn’t planning on going back to the team either. Rather, the winger allegedly wants to put pressure on the club to let the Red Devils sell him. FC Bayern has also been traded as an interested party for days.
The bosses of the Bavarians also used the US tour to learn from other sports and to get inspired. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge visited the Philadelphia Eagles from the NFL, Uli Hoeneß was with basketball sports director Marko Pesic at the 76ers from the NBA and was impressed.
Hoeneß was particularly taken with the ultra-modern training hall. “If we were to do something like this, we would surely come here to Philadelphia and take a closer look. It’s always nice in life to have something to learn.”
Next month the time will finally come for Bastian Schweinsteiger’s farewell game when the Bavarians meet the pig Chicago Fire in the Allianz Arena. The game should also arouse great interest in the USA, as the German record champion is very present in the states, according to Schweinsteiger.
“The matches will all be broadcast live, and of course when I have time, I’ll always look at them,” said the 2014 World Champion, praising the Bavarians for their expansion into new markets. “This is the absolutely right way. The USA is a huge market,” says Schweinsteiger.
“The interest in Bayern Munich is very high. Of course, English clubs still have a lead, television broadcasts a lot of Premier League matches. But the matches of FC Bayern will also be shown.”

He’s helped Real Madrid win 13 trophies but Gareth Bale has never been embraced by club
If David Beckham had won 13 trophies in his time at Real Madrid , scoring in two Champions League finals, he would have carried shoulder high out of the Santiago Bernabeu after his final match.
Gareth Bale 's inglorious, apparently imminent departure from the club is a sign of how, for all the goals and silverware, Real Madrid supporters for being enchanted – and Bale could never turn on the charm the way the less successful Beckham could.
Bale has scored 102 goals in 231 games and, in winning those 13 trophies, scored two of the greatest goals in the club's history. Beckham scored 20 goals in 159 matches, winning one La Liga and a Spanish Super Cup.
Gareth Bale remains an isolated figure at Real Madrid despite all achieved with the club
In winning 13 trophies at Madrid, Bale has scored two of the greatest goals in the club's history
Yet Beckham remains hugely popular amon g Real supporters, who still recall his last game fondly at the home stage when he was center stage as they celebrated winning the league.
He ended up running to the north end of the stage after the final whistle with the St George's flag draped around his neck, clapping fans, encircled by photographers, lapping up the acclaim.
He then trotted to the middle of the pitch and squeezed down to kiss the center spot before going off to more applause brushing the chalk mark off his face as he went.
Beckham also had problems with the coach in his final season – Fabio Capello never vowed to play him again after he signed for LA Galaxy – but he was recalled and left a hero.
Bale, in stark contrast, was jeered by home fans every time he played in the second half of last season. During one match, even his first touch was whistled.
Beckham took center stage during his final game at the Bernabeu for the Spanish giants
The Welshman's imminent departure is in huge contrast to the way Beckham bowed out
When he shrugged off team mates trying to celebrate with him after he scored against Levante, or when he celebrated another goal with an abusive short cut (sleeve cut), they were outbursts or frustration towards those fans. That sleeve cut – the Spanish equivalent of showing the middle finger – was badly executed. He escaped a fine or ban, in part, because it was so poorly done. His detractors agreed it was another sign of his failure to embrace the culture.
Beckham's family were on the pitch during those celebrations in 2007. He gave his third son Cruz a Spanish-sounding name. He made close friendships with Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo and – although he learned no more Spanish than Bale – he appeared integrated right from his first 'Hala Madrid!' pronouncement at his presentation in 2003.
Bale is a more private person. There is a perceived coldness, too. When the team went out for a meal last January, he was one of only three squad members not to make it.
Marcelo complained of Bale's lack of Spanish, Brazilian media count: "I have Bale to one side of me (in the dressing room) and he doesn't speak Spanish so only talk to him in English or with gestures. '
In another interview Thibaut Courtois revealed the players call Bale' The Golfer '.
Despite going on Madrid's pre-season tour this summer, Bale is expected to leave imminently
He lived up to the nickname in June, tweeting about the US Open during the presentation of Eden Hazard. All this has been made easy for coach Zinedine Zidane to ostracise him. His performances last season were on a par with the likes of Marco Asensio and Isco, but they are not such easy targets.
The manager knows the way the club works as well as anyone. He is aware that behind every earth-shattering transfer at Real Madrid there has been an almost equally tremor-inducing departure.
In 2013 when Bale arrived it was Mesut Ozil who was pushed out to make way. In 2014 when Real Estate James Rodriguez signed the Angel Di Maria to pay for the Colombian.
Zidane has long identified Bale as the man he wanted to cash in to bring the likes of Hazard and Paul Pogba into what will be 'his' Real Madrid.
Last summer, Zidane wanted Bale out and Bale knew it. He declined an interview with the club television channel after Real's last home game because so much had been made or supposedly being his final match.
Zinedine Zidane is desperate to sell Bale, with the pair's relationship beyond repair
Despite being the club's best player and top scorer during the run-in, Zidane left him out of the Champions League final against Liverpool. Earlier in the season, he had dropped him against Paris Saint-Germain for the last-16 tie and substituted him at half-time in the second leg of the quarter-final against Juventus.
Bale climbed off the bench to rescue the team with two goals. But that display only convinced Zidane that selling Bale could pay for his rebuilding plan.
In the end, it was Zidane who left the club last summer, after his demand that Bale was sold. When Zidane returned midway through last season, it was evident he had not changed his thinking. He still wanted Hazard and Pogba and he still saw Bale's departure as the best way of financing the change.
And if he gets his way, Bale's final act will have that friendly against Bayern Munich in Houston, when he was left in the stands and the coach said afterwards: the sooner he goes, the better. What a contrast with the way Beckham bowed out.
Bale shrugs off team mate Lucas Vazquez after the score against Levante in February

MLS All-Stars vs. Juventus | 2018 MLS All-Star Game Preview
July 30, 201812:48PM EDT
MLS All-Stars vs. Juventus 2018 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target Mercedes-Benz Stadium — Atlanta August 1 – 7:30 pm ET WATCH: ESPN, UniMás, TVAS, TSN 1/3/4/5
Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be the epicenter of the soccer universe Wednesday night as the MLS All-Stars line up to play one of Europe’s most decorated squads in Juventus, the reigning Serie A and Coppa Italia champions.
There’s plenty of familiar names for Juventus, including Sami Khedira, Emre Can, Giorgio Chiellini and Claudio Marchisio, and they will meet one of the most talented MLS All-Star squads assembled, including former Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco from Toronto FC as well as five players who competed in the World Cup in Russia this summer.
MLS All-Stars
The MLS All-Stars will look for their first win since a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in 2015, and Atlanta United coach Tata Martino will have plenty of firepower at his disposal on Wednesday night.
In fact, it’s probably an embarrassment of riches in the attacking third and it starts with the Five Stripes’ own Josef Martinez, who set an MLS record with his sixth hat trick this season en route to scoring 24 goals in his club’s first 23 games — three goals shy of the regular season record for goals set by Bradley Wright-Phillips, Chris Wondolowski, and Roy Lassiter.
Fresh off becoming the fastest player in MLS history to score 100 regular season goals, Wright-Phillips of the New York Red Bulls was selected for his second MLS All-Star Game. Mexican international Carlos Vela from LAFC was voted the captain of the MLS All-Stars, joins Giovinco and Darwin Quintero of Minnesota United FC as the other forwards on a stacked squad.
There’s also playmakers and many more additional scoring threats in the midfield, led by Atlanta’s own Miguel Almiron and Ezequiel Barco, newly-signed Bayern Munich phenom Alphonso Davies from Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the 2017 Landon Donovan MLS MVP Diego Valeri of the Portland Timbers among others.
Also selected from hometown Atlanta United are central defender Michael Parkhurst and goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
Juventus
Established in 1897, Juventus are the most decorated club in Italy and one of the most revered in global soccer, having won more Serie A and Coppa Italia titles than any other Italian club. Led by coach Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus are coming off a record seventh straight Serie A title, which was clinched four days after a 13th overall and fourth consecutive Coppa Italia championship, when the Old Lady defeated AC Milan, 4-0.
Captained by legendary Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, Juventus might not have their biggest and most expensive summer signing with them, as Cristian Ronaldo is resting following the World Cup, but there’s a star-studded lineup as part of their American tour, with German midfielders Sami Khedira and Emre Can, as well as Italian midfielder Claudio Marchisio.
The Bianconeri come into the game off back-to-back wins in the International Champions Cup. Young forward Andrea Favilli struck for a pair of goals eight minutes apart in a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia last Wednesday, and then Luca Clemenza struck for a late equalizer before Juve beat Benfica 4-2 on penalties Saturday afternoon at Red Bull Arena.
After playing in the MLS All-Star Game, Juventus will meet Real Madrid at FedEx Field on Saturday to cap their American tour, before opening their Serie A campaign at Chievo Verona on Aug. 19.
All-Star Game History
Juventus are the second Serie A squad to participate in the MLS All-Star Game; Roma played the MLS All-Stars in 2013, winning 3-1 at Children’s Mercy Park.
This is the first ASG match to be played in Atlanta and it could be the largest crowd in All-Star history, as it tries to break the record of the 70,728 who packed Houston’s Reliant Stadium to watch the MLS All-Stars take on Manchester United in 2010.
This year’s All-Star Game will be the 14th straight to pit MLS against a European opponent. The MLS All-Stars are 7-4-2, with a pair of shootout losses (to Everton in 2009 and Real Madrid a year ago). The All-Stars won the 2014 and 2015 matchups against Bayern Munich and Tottenham before falling to Arsenal in San Jose in 2016.
Prior to 2005, MLS experimented with several different formats for the All-Star Game. The most common was a traditional East vs. West matchup, though the league did have one-off All-Star Games that pit American players against MLS internationals, as well as the 2002 edition which pitted the All-Stars against the US national team in 2002, before hosting Mexican side Chivas Guadalajara in 2003.

PSG Keen On Bayern Munich Defender Jerome Boateng
New Delhi : Nearly 10 million fans follow his social media accounts. Many have bought a pair of the upmarket glasses he designed, or the very same baseball cap he wore for his last photo shoot. FC Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng is well on his way to becoming a global brand; he belongs to the same management stable as US rapper Jay-Z, and a potential move to big-spending Paris St Germain may further enhance his global marketing appeal.
According to several media and television reports, the 29-year-old defender's departure from Bayern is imminent, with rumours that Boateng could join up with PSG and their German coach Thomas Tuchel within the next couple of days, reports Xinhua news agency.
Rumours indicate PSG will have to pay more than 50 million euros ($58.4 million) to sign the 2014 World Cup winner, whose contract with the Bavarians runs until 2021.
Boateng's departure should not come as a huge surprise, with Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge speaking four weeks ago about the club's willingness to sell the defender if an appropriate offer is received.
Several newspapers have noted Boateng's apparent willingness to open a new chapter after winning six Bundesliuga titles, with French sports daily L'Equipe reporting PSG's growing interest in the centre back.
In what might be seen as a clearing of the decks, there are rumours that Bayern may also be willing to sell midfielders Thiago Alcantara and Arturo Vidal at the right price, with Barcelona and Inter Milan reportedly sniffing around.
Currently touring the US, Bayern are looking to the future with their recent transfer dealings, having agreed to sign 17-year-old Canadian international striker Alphonso Davies from Vancouver Whitecaps, and FC Dallas' 18-year-old Chris Richards.
As soon as Bayern and PSG agree on the Boateng deal, a 2018 World Champion could be the German's replacement in Bayern's defence. 22-year-old Benjamin Pavard is said to have already signed an agreement with the Munich outfit during the World Cup in Russia.
The French defender has a release clause of 35 million euros ($41 million) at his current club VfB Stuttgart which takes effect in 2019, though Bayern are thought to be prepared to pay more to get their man this summer instead.
Boateng is said to be considering a second go at playing abroad, after an unsuccessful spell with Manchester City in the 2010/11 season. Moving to Bayern in 2011, Boateng developed into one of the world's best defenders, but the relationship between him and the club is said to have become strained over time.
The Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper used the analogy of an old couple that has grown apart, adding that there are rumours of growing tensions between Boateng and his central defensive partner Mats Hummels.

Pep Guardiola: a genius with a gift for coaching and a attire of insisting | Raphael Honigstein
At Bayern Munich Pep Guardiola demonstrates how tactical acuity and attention to detail without equal, but has fallen out with anyone who has muttered a complaint
The occasion was banal, the resist mediocre. But you wouldnt have known either from the tremendous, coffee table-sized dossier Pep Guardiola was carrying through the passages of Bayern Munichs SA $? bener Strasse headquarters before Octobers home game against Cologne, the sort of game his club the unassailable chairmen, who had stepped all nine of their Bundesliga matches at that point was planned to triumph at a canter.
The manager locked himself in his office to subject videos of the mid-table unit for hours on end and rose the next day to provide his side with a detailed analysis of where seat could be found.
Cologne did life difficult with a five-man defense and 10 humankinds behind the ball at the Allianz Arena. But spaces began to open up in precise in the areas Guardiola had delineated out in the team meeting.
Bayern took full advantage to destroy the visitors 4-0, leaving one long-serving member of the coaching personnel shaking his head on the sideline, a disbelieving grin on his appearance. Pep, hes a genius, the same club employee said two months later as he described that instance of Guardiolas attention to detail.
There are countless same fables that tell of the 44 -year-olds professional devotion since pitching up in the Bavarian uppercase during the summer of 2013. Talk to any of the former enormous on the Bayern board or even to employees who can judgment the elderly teams learning pitch from their canteen, and they all, to a soul, volunteer that they have never seen a administrator as brilliant as Guardiola at work.

Practice hearings are ran and intense, team talks nothing short of enlightening. Another influential Bayern official not prone to exaggeration told the Observer that Guardiola “ve been thinking about” football and understands the machinations of video games at a tier so deep that no one can follow.
The midfielder Toni Kroos laboured under JA1/ 4rgen Klinsmann, Louis van Gaal, Jupp Heynckes, Carlo Ancelotti and Rafael BenAtez, but he, more, lately said that Guardiola, his manager at Bayern in 2013 -1 4, was the best tutor I ever had in terms of his football theories, his a blueprint for playing against surfaces and presenting solutions to his own team.
A Champions League trophy has scaped the Spaniard in Munich but the guild have been extremely pleased with the teams development into footballs equivalent of the Terminator II model: they are unable shifting figure at will, adapt to any place and take down their resists in a myriad ways.
The constant tactical expects on his musicians, overbearing at first, and a remarkable job charge without the ball have resulted in many of them contacting stages not viewed before. David Alaba has grown into one of the worlds most completed all-rounders on Guardiolas watch, guard JA( c) rA’me Boateng sprays 60 m pinpoint delivers and roving forward Thomas MA1/ 4ller now commands a nine-figure price tag.
Thats the genius chip covered. For all his charm, approachable behavior outside the stadium, Guardiola has proved more high-maintenance and difficult to work with than anticipated. He still has not come to terms with a corporate culture that learns key representations regularly engage in robust exchanges of views. In rotation, Bayern do not understand why he has often sent aides or advisers to promote important issues with the board, instead of talking to them instantly. The deficiency of open communication has multiplied skepticism on both sides, especially since the summers tour of China.
The otherwise successful trip terminated on a extremely nippy tone when the team chairwoman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, innocuously remarked that life at Bayern would continue even if the manager did not restore his prevailing contract beyond June 2016. Guardiola took gigantic offence and sulked throughout the flight home to Germany.
He was also upset that the Bayern president, Franz Beckenbauer, criticised the two teams play-act as over-elaborate in the wake of their humiliating Champions League semi-final demolish by Real Madrid in 2014. Friends interpreted he find his footballing models were gravely misunderstood in Munich.
There were endless sequences with Bayerns club doctor, Hans-Wilhelm MA1/ 4ller-Wohlfahrt, over actors recurring injuries. The 73 -year-old vacated in protest after roughly four decades at the golf-club in April Rummenigge had taken Guardiolas side in their long-running quarrel but Kicker reported under Thursday that MA1/ 4ller-Wohlfahrts successor, Dr Volker Braun, has also descended out with Guardiola over the latest setback for Franck RibA( c) ry. The Frenchman will miss the next eight weeks with a muscle tear.

Some of the coaching staff members and a few of the German contingent have privately expressed reservations about the manager abandoning traditional fitness drills for usages with the ball. It could well be a simple question of wont: they are not used to working that acces. Some musicians have done extra hearings in their own time to make up for the perceived inadequacy, which might well have proved counter-productive. In the past two seasons Bayerns performance levels have fallen a little after the winter break and traumata have piled up.
As much as Guardiolas exacting methodology and complex personality have wearied the squad, Bayern would still have been prepared to overlook everything there is knot him down for a few more times. Such has been the thought he has attained in pure footballing words. But he has get other projects. Sources close to Guardiola insist that he ever intended to leave at the end of his contract, that there are no specific reasons why he has turned down a new deal.
Now that the games most in-demand coach is about to announce his deviation at the end of the season, Bayern are hopeful that his three-year stint can still extradite a happy terminating. When the Bavarians revealed that Guardiola would take over from Heynckes, in January 2013, players and the incumbent coach-and-four were galvanised to deliver the treble five months later. Perhaps history can repeat itself.

Bayern Munich vs. Arsenal 2017 live stream: Start time, TV channel, and how to watch International Champions Cup online
Bayern Munich go head-to-head with Arsenal in Shanghai on Wednesday.
Arsenal haven’t had particularly fond experiences of facing Bayern Munich in recent years, and were smashed 10-2 by the German giants when they faced off in the Champions League first knockout round last season. They’ll be hoping to avoid similar humiliation on Wednesday in an affair that promises to be friendlier in both name and nature, as the sides face off in the opening round of the International Champions Cup.
Bayern will be hoping to build upon the 9-1 victory they recorded over Bavarian minnows Erlangen-Bruck in their one full friendly so far. Arsenal, meanwhile, recorded two-goal wins over Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers in the two Australian friendlies they played before jetting over the Pacific to Shanghai.
Bayern Munich summer signing to watch: James Rodríguez
Bayern have revised their initial touring squad to include summer signing James Rodríguez. The Colombian playmaker has arrived on a two-season loan from Real Madrid, and will be hoping to rediscover the kind of form that earned him a spot in FIFA’s Dream Team at the 2014 World Cup. Arsenal’s midfield will have to work hard to keep him quiet.
Arsenal summer signing to watch: Alexandre Lacazette
Arsenal have themselves been busy so far this summer, not so much dipping into the market as diving headfirst into it. They've made the uncharacteristically huge signing of Alexandre Lacazette, with the prolific French striker arriving from Lyon for a club-record fee believed to be an initial £46.5 million. Lacazette’s got the potential to be the consistent goalscorer the Gunners have so badly needed, and he’ll be looking to get into the swing of things quickly.
Compared to other friendlies, is this worth my time?
Without a doubt. Though it’s still a friendly, both of these sides will have big new signings on show, and a smattering of young talents to boot. If you’re going to watch any friendly this week, this wouldn’t be a bad one to choose. 7/10.
Match date/time: Wednesday, 7:20 a.m. ET, 7:20 p.m. local
Venue: Shanghai Stadium, Shanghai, China
TV: ESPN Deportes (U.S. — Spanish); EuroWorld Sport (Canada); Premier Sports (U.K.); Sport1 (Germany).
Online: WatchESPN (U.S. — English); ESPN Deportes+ (U.S. — Spanish); Sport1+ (Germany).
