Lent & Asceticism Journey: Journalling
Tuesday, 20 February
I slept in ever so slightly today, knowing I had nothing to worry about and would be working late. I was in a sunny mood when I got up, had coffee, and started on my tasks for the day.
I listened to a video essay on Stoic philosophers and how they are misinterpreted by men a lot of the time. It was good but a little tacky in its production. I prayed a little, no effect. I took a refreshing shower and put on some makeup, as I was going in to the office.
Connor dropped me off and we went the long way. Rachel was going to come and say hi but she couldn't because Charlie overslept. I had laksa soup and burnt toast for lunch, I ate while I worked.
I worked really well today. I actually did some overtime just because I was enjoying setting up hubspot so much. The board approved the cost for me to go in and reactivate our account. I feel competent and happy that I'm included in the board meetings sometimes. After it concluded, I stepped out into the sunlight and walked while listening to music. I felt joy.
Grace was fun today. Sometimes I think she thinks I am a bit stupid though. Probably because I'm not as good at the job as she is and it might get annoying. But her dog Lou was in all day too which was extra lovely. He's such a nice dog. He barked at Wade who got a massive fright and it was very funny.
Dinner was literally beans and rice - the most ascetic meal so far. It was fine. I saw it as purely functional. I'm starting to count calories though, so I better watch myself because this was never, ever supposed to be about my body. I don't know why I started again.
I read more of Sorrow and Bliss. She's not the kind of unlikable bitch I enjoy reading, but I'll keep going for a bit. It's been compared to Fleabag and I think I get why. It's acerbic.
I purchased a new hair dryer since my one sucks, and I'm going to repurpose it for acrylic pouring, which will be awesome fun. I'm feeling a bit more put together today. I've taken a lorazepam and Haku and Connor are with me in our bed. It's warm and I feel happy.

Is SEO worth the money?
Yes, SEO is worth the money. In fact, this is the age-old question that many business owners have pondered. Let me tell you, as someone who knows digital marketing in and out and by research that, SEO is absolutely worth the investment.
Do you know - “Fully 61% of B2B decision-makers start the buying process with a Web search, whereas a whopping 87% of retail shoppers do the same—vastly exceeding other channels, including display and social media” – MarketingProfs
First and foremost, let's talk about what SEO actually is. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing your website so that it ranks higher on search engine results pages (SERPs) for specific keywords or phrases.
The higher your website ranks, the more visible it is to potential customers and the more likely they are to click through to your site.
Now, you might be thinking - can't I just use paid advertising to get my website to show up at the top of search results?
And while yes, paid advertising (such as Google Ads which is also popular) can be effective in driving traffic to your site, it's important to remember that those results will disappear as soon as you stop paying for them.
With SEO, however, the results are more long-lasting and sustainable. Here is an illustration to help you understand even more clearly:
Tumblr media
Additionally, SEO can help you build credibility and trust with both search engines and potential customers.
When your website appears at the top of search results for a particular keyword or phrase, people are more likely to view your site as an authority on that topic.
This can help increase brand awareness and ultimately lead to increased conversions.
“59% of enterprise businesses have a dedicated SEO team, underlying business leaders’ prioritization of organic marketing resources as brands’ digital presence continues to take center stage” – Conductor
But let's get to the meat of the matter - how much does SEO actually cost? Well, it really depends on your specific needs and goals.
The cost of SEO can vary widely depending on factors such as the size of your website, the competitiveness of your industry, and the level of optimization required.
Tumblr media
Image Source - The State of Technical SEO Report 2023 from Aira & Women in Tech SEO.
Some companies may charge a few hundred dollars per month for basic SEO services [$500 - $1500 USD average], while others may charge several thousand dollars per month for more comprehensive services [$ 3500 - $8,000 USD average].
Of course, these charges vary geographically depending on the market and the level of competition.
“Though it’s time-consuming, SEO work requires a relatively low financial investment, especially when compared to strategies like paid ads, events, and out-of-home ads” – HubSpot’s 2023 State of Marketing Report
However, it's important to remember that investing in quality SEO services is an investment in your business's success.
While it may seem like a significant expense upfront, the long-term benefits of higher search engine rankings and increased traffic can far outweigh the cost.
“For SEO, test a budget increase for 6 months. Commit to a grace period no matter what happens. 6 months is a good time frame because it allows you to hit at least one Core Algorithm Update and see if it gives you a boost based on the work you did with more budget” – Kevin Indig, SEO expert
In conclusion, SEO is absolutely worth the money if you're looking to increase visibility, build credibility, and drive traffic to your website.
Just be sure to do your research and choose a reputable SEO agency or company that can provide quality services tailored to your specific needs and goals.

Grab More Optins And Sales With Lead Magnets: How I Got 72 Opt Ins Yesterday and Sales Too.
Tumblr media
Hello,Marlon here. So yesterday I got 72 opt ins for FREE. And on the download page I had a link to my Marketing Heaven report. I sold a number of those. I haven't ran the numbers yet. But YES, it got SALES. It wasn't just freebie seekers or lookie looz for all you skeptics bout opt ins not being worth anythang. Which is the most ridiculout thing I've heard. That shows a total lack of understanding about what causes what. Which is one of the 3 BIG INSIGHTS I want to share today about how YOU can go out there and get 72 opt ins in a day or however many yourself. But NOT just one day. How to get opt ins daily and weekly. INSIGHT ONE: THE BIG SECRET TO STEADY OPT INS Here's a BIG SECRET to getting steady opt ins. There's a whole video about this in Fast Start System on the traffic tab if you own that prdouct. So I'm always learning. Every day. And one thing I heard recently that's really awesome is this: If you want to get opt ins for your lead magnet daily, then you have to PROMOTE it daily. If you want to get opt ins for your lead magnet weekly, then you have to promote it WEEKLY. The suggestion was, for example, to have a routine where every Friday in your Instagram and FB story you promote your xyz lead magnet. This is just a DYNAMITE idea. Why I didn't think of that I don't know. My thought is to have 5 or 10 pre-made stories for a lead magnet and rotate those. You pick a day of the week and promote the lead magnet. What a fantastic idea. INSIGHT TWO: The TOPIC, TITLE AND ANGLE OF YOUR LEAD MAGNET ARE CRITICAL So I have a cool lead magnet on seeing new opportunities by opening your Johari Window. According to a google search, the Johari Window "is a framework for understanding conscious and unconscious bias that can help increase self-awareness and our understanding of others. " "It is the creation of two psychologists, Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingham, who named the model by combining their first names." Now, the free report is at https://resellertoolkit.com/johari The only thing is, it didn't do well as a freebie offer or lead magnet. The BENEFIT wasn't or isn't clear enough. Now, if I work on the big promise, maybe I can turn it into a great lead magnet. But right now it's not a very good one. In contrast, my lead magnet on "How I sold 70,000 info products using free advertising" got 72 opt ins yesterday, or something like that. It crushed. And I made multiple sales from the offer on the download page. The REASON it's a good lead magnet for my audience is they are very, very, very RESULTS driven. In fact, unless it's DIRECTLY about the sales they make or money they get, they usually aren't interested. It's a bit ridiculous to be honest. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that if you write a 10x better sales letter your sales will rocket. But copywriting is notoriously difficult to sell. In other words, people don't see or understand CAUSALITY. The link between the predecessors to a result. In any event, if I want to get opt ins from a lead magnet, it has to REALLY put out a result. TAKE AWAY: NAIL THE HOOK and the title You have to nail the title and the hook. -- That usually means a big result.-- Or a fast or easy result.-- Or something that's novel or unusual.-- Or something that's intriguing BIG INSIGHT THREE: The more lead magnets and email capture pages, the more opt ins you get On my blog at marlonsnews is an article about this. There's a stat Hubspot researched and put that says "Businesses with 31 to 40 landing pages get 7X more leads than those with only 1 to 5." That means MORE lead magnets MORE email capture pages = MORE LEADS. DUH! Notice I'm talking about opt ins. It's actually not the best title for a lead magnet. Because again, people have real issues understanding or seeing CAUSALITY. They want to hear about SALES not OPT INS. But what they heck do you think CAUSES sales? The ability to get an offer to a prospect. But literally, people's brains have problems connecting those two thing. I think this must be something hardwired into our biology. I really do. It's like a flaw in the human brain where it has challenges and troubles identifying causality. It's probably an underlying cause of crime. People have problems making the connection between committing a crime and something bad happening to them. Their brain doesn't easily make that connection. In any event, if you want MORE LEADS and MORE OPT INS, create more lead magnets and more email capture pages with the most intriguing HOOKS your brain can come up with. And you can also use A.I. tools to help you come up with research and hooks if you so desire. Brendan Kane wrote a brilliant book about it called "Hook Point." He's basically a data scientist who uses massive data testing to find hook points. It's an interesting book. BOILED DOWN this means: - HOOK PEOPLE's attention and interest Don't bore them to tears. Say something interesting and exciting that captures the imagination. - Put that hook point in your lead magnet title - TEST hook points This is the big revelation Brendan Kane made. He could use social media to test hundreds and thousands of hook points. Now, he has access to big budgets. On a small basis you can do the same thing on your Facebook profile or page. Test different hooks and see which ones people RESPOND to by asking for more info. - Get more lead magnets and more opt in pages out there. - Get the Fast Start Syustem because it explains how to do all of this in detail, step-by-step. It closes out today. So I wouldn't dilly dally about it. If you want the info, drop a line. I realize you may THINK you know about all about lead magnets, opt ins and such. But actually, there's a real science and an art to it. Marlon Read the full article

RECENT NEWS, RESOURCES AND STUDIES, early February 2023 (Part 2)
Tumblr media
As promised, here is the second half of my early February news and resources update. This part includes general ecommerce news, social media, analytics and content marketing pieces, with a few other bits thrown in.
You can find Part 1 here, including tops news stories, Etsy and general SEO news (mostly Google).
Don’t forget to follow or connect with me on LinkedIn, where I will be posting more frequent news updates and articles, as Twitter is likely to become harder to use in the future.
SOCIAL MEDIA - All Aspects, By Site
General Before going further with your social media work, make sure you have figured out who your target audience is. Knowing who they are makes it easier to reach the right people.
Making your social media accessible is a lot easier with this handy website Accessible Social, that explains all the best practices. For example, all hashtags should have caps at the beginning of subsequent words so that screen readers can pronounce them correctly.
Mastodon is still growing, thanks to the exodus from Twitter, but the nature of the site means it is reaching some limits. “There are a lot of people who really don’t realize what they’re getting themselves into,” says Corey Silverstein, an attorney who specializes in internet law. “If you’re running these [instances], you have to run it like you’re the owner of Twitter. What people don’t understand is how complicated it is to run a platform like this and how expensive it is.”
Yet another “when to post” article (this one from Hubspot) but it also covers how often to post, which is a twist we don’t see all the time. Covers Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Pinterest.
And because the sizes seem to change all the time, here is a list of the ideal image sizes for many social media sites, including Instagram and Pinterest.
Facebook (includes relevant general news from Meta) If you use Creator Studio, note that the main functions are moving over to Meta’s Business Suite, and Creator Studio will be closed permanently. Meta blames some of its layoffs in November on the lack of shopping growth.
Meta may have to make its data collection for personalized ads “opt-in” only, after they were fined €390m in Ireland.
Instagram Turns out that not everyone wants to shop on Instagram after all; the “Shop” tab is being removed from the main page. Shopping will still be available, but will not be as obvious.
LinkedIn LinkedIn now allows users to select an SEO title and description for each article, including past ones.
TikTok TikTok is under fire for tracking journalists who publish stories on the social media company.  The company’s investigation, which was conducted by an outside law firm, revealed that the two journalists who had their data accessed by ByteDance’s Internal Audit team worked for BuzzFeed and The Financial Times. Forbes, however, says that three of its journalists were tracked: Emily Baker-White, Katharine Schwab, and Richard Nieva, all of whom worked for BuzzFeed until earlier this summer. The Financial Times says its reporter, Cristina Criddle, was tracked.”
TikTok staff have also been boosting their own videos as well as those of their family and friends. “
Yes, there is such a thing as TikTok SEO. And if you don’t like that article, here’s one that specifically focuses on the algorithm.
YouTube When optimizing content on YouTube, you should be aiming for both Google and YouTube searches. The article includes several (free and paid) tools that give answers specific to YouTube.
ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS (minus social media)
Amazon Amazon sellers now have access to great new analytics on how your buyers find you, and what people are searching for.
Amazon’s weak 4th quarter mirrored that of Apple and Google.
Amazon has agreed to settlements in EU anti-trust investigations. “The US ecommerce group has committed to increasing the visibility of rival products by giving them equal treatment on Amazon’s “buy box,” which generates the majority of purchases on the site. It will also create an alternative featured offer for those buyers where speed of delivery is less important.”
Did Amazon really bury Cheyenne, Wyoming post offices with too many packages the first weekend of 2023? They say no, but USPS had to shut 3 post offices due to the high volumes.
Amazon’s new pilot program allows American customers to return their Amazon purchases at Staples locations.
BigCommerce BigCommerce site owners can now run ads with Microsoft without leaving BigCommerce.
eBay eBay is raising final value fees in many but not all categories as of February 15th. The biggest increases add another .35% to the existing fee, e.g, if the FVF is currently 12%, it will rise to 12.35%.
eBay may be planning on using cell phones in account and bank verification in the future. Some sellers claim they were told they would need a cell phone by February, and an eBay employee confirmed phones that can receive text would be needed in some instances. It appears that only newer sellers need to worry about this.
eBay is erroneously removing collectible stamp listings as it tries to enforce the rules on selling forever stamps.
eBay is updating item specifics requirements for numerous categories as of February 23, 2023; check out the list to make sure you are up to date.
Shopify Shopify will be increasing all plan prices as of April 23. The yearly options have more than doubled.
Walmart Walmart opened a new site to sell to small businesses. “The site focuses on products that would appeal to small business owners, like office supplies and furniture, snacks, food and beverages, restroom supplies, electronics and facility needs. Walmart says items are organized “in a way that makes sense to organizations.”
All Other Website Builders GoDaddy has introduced “managed” WooCommerce stores, which make it easier for Wordpress users to have an ecommerce site. The options apparently include integrations for marketplaces such as Google, Amazon and Etsy.
Payment Processing PayPal had a data breach back in December; around 35,000 affected members have been notified.
Stripe will now be one of Amazon’s biggest payment processors in Canada, the US, and Europe, with Stripe now using more of Amazon Web Services in its business.
Is the bloom already off the “buy now, pay later” rose? The major companies may have overextended themselves, and lawmakers and regulators are turning attention to the practice.
Shipping Pitney Bowes released a combo printer/scale/rate checker for ecommerce businesses in the US. It currently costs $269 but will eventually go up to $369.
FedEx will no longer offer US SameDay City service after March 31. “Same day delivery will still be available through FedEx SameDay US and FedEx SameDay Freight.”
(CONTENT) MARKETING (includes blogging, emails, and strategies)
This article claims most people use dark mode for emails, so you need to optimize for it. Not so sure about "most"- I use dark mode most places, but none of my email providers offer dark mode for the individual emails, just the home page. Still, useful info!
You still have time to plan some content marketing for February; here are a few suggestions. Don’t forget some women do celebrate Galentines (February 13) instead of Valentines.
And March marketing ideas include “National Old Stuff Day” on March 2, which seems perfect for vintage sellers.
It may be time to make some changes to your email list practices. One suggestion is to send fewer emails [I already do that].
Mailchimp has been hacked twice in the past 6 months, and one of the victims this time around was WooCommerce. That means the data of WooCommerce users may have been retrieved, not just the info about WooCommerce itself. During the previous breach in August, Mailchimp said it enacted “an additional set of enhanced security measures,” but declined to tell TechCrunch what those measures entailed. With a near-identical repeat of its past breach, it’s not clear if Mailchimp properly implemented those enhanced measures, or if those measures failed.”
ONLINE ADVERTISING (NOT SOCIAL MEDIA OR ECOMMERCE SITES)
Google is being sued by the US federal and some state governments in an antitrust case regarding its advertising advantages. “The government alleges that Google’s plan to assert dominance has been to “neutralize or eliminate” rivals through acquisitions and to force advertisers to use its products by making it difficult to use competitors’ products. It’s part of a new, if slow and halting, push by the US to rein in big tech companies that have enjoyed largely unbridled growth in the past decade and a half.” Google makes 80% of its revenue from online ads.
If you are thinking of running ads on Google but haven’t started yet, this article will help you set them up.
Google Ads are now allowing negative keywords at the account level.
Search Engine Land did an excellent review of 2022 in online advertising.
Decisions such as the Meta fine in Ireland (mentioned above) are one of the reasons that online advertising is undergoing a sea change. “If the current targeting methods become obsolete, advertisers must find other ways to drive profitable sales. One option is building first-party databases to create audiences without necessarily tracking those users all over the internet.”
Analysts predict that Google and Facebook will earn less than half of all online advertising budgets in the US this year, after almost a decade of dominance. Amazon is currently in third place and rising, while TikTok is gaining on Microsoft for fourth place. Google’s ad revenue was actually down in the fourth quarter compared to 2021.
STATS, DATA, TRACKING
Google will be closing Google Optimize at the end of September, shuffling at least some of its testing capabilities to Google Analytics 4.
Haven’t set up GA4 yet? Google will start doing it for you in March.
GA4 now has new dimensions and metrics specific to ecommerce users.
Some people are having issues with GA4 tracking custom UTM parameters; here’s some background and tips to get things working again.
BUSINESS & CONSUMER TRENDS, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
The 2022 holiday season saw spending rise, but most of it seemed to be due to inflation, as volume actually dropped over Cyber Week and Christmas. Inflation also cut into business profits.
IMAGES, VIDEO, GRAPHIC DESIGN, & FREE ONLINE TOOLS
Shutterstock has used member’s art to train its AI, but didn’t bother to tell users that.
Looking for a new font? Check out these 20 free ones that came out in 2022.
Is your writing overly wordy and complicated? Try the Hemingway App as an editor.
While we are discussing tools, I am posting this page again, as there are some new additions to Tiny Wow.
MISCELLANEOUS (including humour)
Do you use a formula to set your product prices? If you use “cost-plus pricing”, be aware of its limitations.
Web accessibility is about more than seeing and hearing. Cognitive differences and neurological differences can also limit some people’s use of your website.

Giphy video to gif

GIPHY VIDEO TO GIF HOW TO
GIPHY VIDEO TO GIF DOWNLOAD
These animated files feature a short, looping video clip - usually one that expresses an emotion. To use their special features, just drop your GIF link (the one you grabbed when you finished creating your GIF) into the GIF Editor tab.GIFs are a fun, dynamic way to express yourself on the Internet. One of my favorite features of the GIPHY GIF tool is being able to add filters, stickers, words, and even edit the loop of my GIF. Use the sliding tools to determine which part of your video will become your GIF loop.ĭownload your GIF to your computer, but also grab those share links! You can immediately share your creation on Facebook, Twitter, or you can really up your GIF game by adding special features! Adding special features GIPHY allows you to select both when the GIF should start and how long it should run for. Unlike when creating from a video, you'll want to upload the file to the GIF Maker tab. GIPHY doesn't just created animated GIFs out of images, but also videos! Here's how to do it: Step #1: Upload video file I know what you're thinking, "BRITT, that was a great GIF and everything, but all the best GIFs are fun clips!" Don't worry, I got ya covered!
GIPHY VIDEO TO GIF HOW TO
Select “Create Slideshow” at the bottom of the screen.ĭance - you did it! You Made An Animated GIF in Seconds!ĭo you want to learn how to add special filters, stickers, and even text to your GIF? Scroll down to Adding Special Features! Creating an animated video GIF Using the slider tool, select how fast you want the layers to loop. Organize them in the order that you want them to animate. Go to GIPHY’s site and select the “CREATE” button in their header.
GIPHY VIDEO TO GIF DOWNLOAD
You can make a free video or animated GIF in GIF and save it for social, download it to your computer, or even get a mini-one to use on your phone. GIPHY is one of the largest libraries of GIFs and if Apple is using them, well, so am I. You may recognize that name if you use the GIF response on iMessage, Twitter, or even Slack! I know that sounds overly simplistic, but trust me, it really is that easy. Step #4: Make your animated GIF in seconds Canvas allows you to upload your own images if you don’t mind something you love!.Keep the elements consistent as you design each layer. You can add in as many layers as you like, but remember: Now, I had the three layers of my GIF created and saved. I repeated those steps with the final line of text, “In 75 seconds!” and then downloaded one last time! Added in the second line of text that I wanted to display, “I made this GIF”.This is important! If you move elements or text between layers, it will not animate smoothly. Add in the first row of text “GUESS WHAT”.Removed all the words from the image, but left the backgrounds, border, etc.I knew that I wanted the animated part of my GIF to be the words. If you don’t see what you’re looking for head over to, HubSpot (if you’re a customer), and Creative Market to find free graphics to use.Īnimated GIFs look “animated” because they layer multiple still images over each other in a loop. The GIF in my example was made from one of their base images.īefore spending time/money on downloading graphic/images check out their library and you may find something to help you get started. One of the reasons I love Canva so much is because it has a lot of great starter graphics. (No offense to actual graphic design geniuses). It’s a fantastic free tool with an expansive library of stock images, fonts, graphics that anyone can use to look like a graphic design genius. If you’ve never used Canva before - sign up right now. Hello Mr. Entj! I hope you're good! :D I'm actually a business student and I want to get into marketing because I find it fascinating! I recently came across this institute called CXL institute. I want to enroll but I'm not sure if it'll be worth it? Can you please have a look and let me know, your opinions are really valuable to me thats why I wanted to ask you first! :) Thank you and have a good day!
You as well.
This isn’t my area of expertise so I reached into my network and consulted internally with my Head of Marketing Strategy and Analytics on our team for you. The feedback was:
CXL is legit and high quality but expensive. Before committing to an entire degree, try the a la carte option with the monthly subscription to take as many or as few courses in case something doesn’t click or there’s overlap in what you already know
i.e. Don’t pay for a class you don’t need
We already have something completely free like that internally in Digital Garage and Skillshop modules for AdWords and Analytics that Sales Mastery owns
HubSpot and Udemy have their own free training portals so check that out too. For coding and analytics, W3 is good practice
I’ll have [name] send the links over to you by EOD today
