[Tired anon part 1 bc I need 2-3] Hey Acti-Veg, I'm sorry if this would be inconvenient, but I wanted to voice this on a well-known vegan blog with a higher reach, bc I need non-vegans to get this through their thick heads. I'm sick of ppl posting vids of crop-pickers and stating "Veganism isn't cruelty free" and other vegans hopping on it, why? Because it's fucking stupid. Cruelty-free is a label assigned to Products that were not tested on animals. It has absolutely nothing to do with-

[Tired anon 2/4] The horrid conditions commercial crop-pickers go through. Yes these are real issues that need to be dealt with, but they are Separate issues. It's like pointing to a bag of oranges in a Walmart picked in Florida and going 'produce isn't fair trade' yeah no shit, bc the fair trade label deals with a seemingly similar but Entirely separate issue. The only thing in common is that it's a crop. The only thing that's shared between Cruelty-free and Veganism-

[Tired anon 3/4] is that, it's Vegans trying to actually adhere to the vegan definition and change not only their diets, but their lifestyle as well, which includes shampoos, soaps, hair dyes, even fucking cigarettes. So what's my point? The problem I have, is with Non-vegans who literally do not know Jackshit about Veganism, or even ASKING a Vegan anything before spreading misinformation, or voicing their uneducated opinions which is then taken and parroted like Dogma. [Tired anon 4/4] and to those that point to the handful of ignorant vegans who state this quote, without also pointing to the RIVER of vegans who correct them? You're part of the problem, bc this shit would never fly under any other social justice movement. So word of advice for non-vegans or anti-vegans. If u have an "opinion" on veganism? And are not actively listening to, or a part of the vegan community? Shut. The fuck. Up. Not only are you loud, you're WRONG and loud. Insidious as hell.

Realistically, all these people are doing is using the suffering of crop pickers as a smokescreen to distract from their own selfish choices. If it were about anything other than that we’d also be hearing about slaughterhouse workers and meat-packers, some of the most exploited workers on earth doing incredibly dangerous jobs for low pay. I have literally never seen anyone who wasn’t vegan posting about that, yet I see a post almost weekly about crop pickers. That isn’t even to detract from how serious the issue of crop workers is, but I’d just love to see it discussed critically in any context that wasn’t one of those god awful, tone-deaf “LISTEN UP VEGANS” posts with 200k notes from people who haven’t bothered to fact-check because of their confirmation bias. Vegans know full well that our lifestyle isn’t cruelty free, since it’s impossible to achieve that in a consumer society. But the fact that we can’t do everything doesn’t mean we should do nothing, and pointing to the problems endemic in capitalist society and using them as an excuse to keep buying paying for exploitation and suffering is absolutely despicable. I agree anon, this is far too common and it is maddening.
