Big Bad Thai, on the other hand, is a rustic-themed restaurant that serves the most authentic Thai dishes in town. From the famed Pad Thai to Pad Krapow, Big Bad Thai perfectly curates their dishes based on the original Thai recipes. What sets this El Nido Thai restaurant apart from the rest is its homemade sauces with varying levels of spiciness. They also serve vegan options such as Som Tum (spicy green papaya salad) and Thai Morning Glory (fried spinach with garlic and oyster sauce).
After this filling food adventure, we started the El Nido night escapade with a good whole-body massage before hitting the bars for some night cap.

Apart from the available seats inside where one will be able to truly feel the tribal vibe SAVA is aiming for through their colorful wall paintings, the bar also features cushioned seats on amphitheater-style cemented seating at the garden beachfront.
This Beach Bar, apart from their cocktails and food, takes great pride in their place’s ambiance. This is in great connection to the thematic music nights born from the different DJs turning SAVA into a place incomparable to what it was the previous nights. Their Happy Hour promo is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and experience their selection of classic cocktails with a twist!
We had a few more drinks in Pangolin, and the rest was history.

My Mexican mother is considered the best in the family for Mexican cuisine, everyone loves her food and I can't eat most of it
I can't eat it or smell it without wanting to gag (I don't, but I need to leave after a while to get a break)
Mexican food is considered one of the best food cultures in the world, my mother was born and raised in Jalisco and brought all the recipes she learned from her mother with her
I grew up on fast food and faster/easier recipes because she needed to put more time and effort into cooking for the rest of the family
I also grew up in Los Angeles, one of the best places in the US for authentic Mexican food. We'd go to Mexican restaurants when she didn't feel like cooking (and on one memorable occasion, a house/restaurant that was recommended to my parents at church lol), and if not Mexican restaurants, then some fast food place or seafood buffets. I stopped going out to eat with family often in my teens bc it wasn't worth taking me. I also remember being judged and just hated the experience and would make up excuses to not go
I don't know, I was on my tiktok fyp and I kept getting a lot of stuff about Mexican food and I just hate being reminded of my fucking defects so much. I didn't choose to utterly despise meat and beans and I feel so left out of my own culture. If I could eat it, I would, but I can't.
My siblings grew up on all of these amazing foods, and I grew up right alongside them, eating something else.

This week we chose a recipe from Favorite Recipes of Home Economics Teachers: Casseroles, which was published in 1965.  This cookbook cost me 10 cents at a used bookstore on Valentine’s weekend (romantic, huh?), but I think I got a pretty good deal.  This cookbook is actually still in print, and is available right now on Amazon in a reissue.  They even gave it a cute retro cover with a young girl who looks like she is trying to read a book in an incomprehensible language rather than just a casserole cookbook. 
Oh, those young housewives!  Sometimes I wonder if they learned anything in school. Huh? Huh?  Do you get the joke? See because she is a girl and…ahhh…forget it.
Anyway, this apparently beloved cookbook holds between it’s spiral bound covers literally thousands of recipes.  But not just any recipes.  Favorite recipes from home economics teachers around the country. Tried and tested recipes, recipes that have stood the test of time, been perfected and honed during hours of time in classroom kitchens, chopped and mixed and prepped to within and inch of their lives.  And out of this flurry of activity has come the best, the most authentic, the most delicious, the most healthy recipes you will ever see.
Recipes that would never insult an ethnicity.  They would never  claim to be authentic if they weren’t.  And they would never, ever contain something crazy like, oh, I don’t know, claiming that two whole cans of Vienna sausages topped with Parmesan cheese is Mexican food.

As an interesting side note, the book claims that if you have any problems with any recipe, that you shouldn’t write to the publisher.  Instead, you should address your questions to the teacher who submitted the recipe.

Do you have a favorite meal someone's made for you? what foods remind you of home or of someone?, what do you like to eat when they feel like shit (emotionally or actually sick)?
YAAAAAS I’m so psyched for this question, I love it!! 💖
So, my mom grew up in a family of 7, and she was the 2nd oldest. Both of my grandparents worked long hours and so her oldest sister started cooking super young, and my mom started cleaning. Because of this very early division of labor, my mom was never really into cooking, but my aunt…oh my god. 
Going to her house is incredible, because she always cooks absolutely amazing meals that are full of seasonal fresh veggies, often from her own garden. But even better, I lived with her and my uncle for about a year when I was interning (ie not getting paid) and let me tell you…I ate like fucking ROYALTY during that year. Plus, I got to be her sous chef when I was home and I learned an infinite amount of helpful things. I think honestly, the best part was getting home after a 10-14 hours day and hour commute and ALWAYS finding a fridge full of delicious, healthy food. Like, all I had to do was heat it up. It was often some kind of frittata, some amazing homemade pesto with fresh pasta, or stir-fry. 
She’s the one who makes coleslaw a lot, btw, and here’s the basic method: 
Always start with at least 2 kinds of cabbage - one green and one purple, cut thinly on a mandolin. Usually at least a few other cruciferous veggies too, like Brussels sprouts, broccoli, kale, etc, also cut small.
Add some other crunchy veggies: shredded or matchstick-cut carrots, radishes,  celery, jicama, beets, whatever you’ve got.
Add little oil/fat
Add whatever vinegar or acid goes with the rest of the meal (IE balsamic, red wine, apple cider, or rice vinegar, harissa, or lemon/lime juice, even hot sauce)
Optional: If you want a creamy coleslaw, add a spoonful or two of Greek yogurt
Season LIBERALLY, with whatever spices or fresh herbs go with the meal. Always include salt, pepper, a little chili powder, and garlic & onion powders, but everything is optional.
STIR AGGRESSIVELY UNTIL THE LIQUIDS AND SPICES HAVE EMULSIFIED AND COATED THE VEGGIES. TASTE AS YOU GO AND ADD SEASONING IF NECESSARY.
(Examples: an Italian meal might mean: olive oil, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, fresh basil, fresh parsley, fresh minced garlic, a few spoonfuls of pesto, dried oregano or rosemary, etc. A stir-fry might get peanut oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, fresh Thai basil, green onions, cilantro/coriander leaves, star anise, cloves, etc. Mexican food might get lime juice, fresh cilantro, cumin, cayenne, ancho, chipotle, hot sauce or Tajin.)
Also optional: add-ins like tomatoes, olives, peppers, artichoke hearts, capers, cucumbers: things that are juicy or more delicate. They get mixed in now, more gently.
Finish by sprinkling something crunchy on top: toasted nuts or seeds, croutons, fried noodles. Et voila. Auntie Em’s Coleslaw.
(Which stores brilliantly, btw, because the flavors only get better as they all marinate together and because the base is hearty and crunch things, it doesn’t get soggy and gross like most leftover salad.)
Well...that turned into a full recipe, lol. ANYWAY...
Other favorite meals that people have made me, which always make me think of them:
This layered enchilada-inspired dish that my friend’s mom used to make all the time was my absolute favorite and I have a full recipe for that too. It doesn’t claim to be authentically Mexican; it’s like a California/vegetarian version of the classic Tex Mex dish called “Burrito Pie,” but it is SO fucking good and satisfying and the kind of thing you can eat all year round because it’s both warm and filling but also full of fresh veggies and easily can be eaten with a big salad (or Auntie Em’s Coleslaw) for a lighter meal in hot weather.
Also my grandmother used to make truly outstanding oven-baked mac and cheese. 
My friend's grandmother added a vegetarian tamale to their holiday tradition just because I used to help and I didn't eat the meat ones. (Roasted poblanos with crema, Oaxaca, and Cotija btw, absolutely fucking outstanding.)
What reminds me of home, is generally just the foods that my family makes or that we ate together. My brother makes the best mashed potatoes in the world. My mom makes lentil soup that I’m always in the mood for 24/7, and these dark chocolate/peanut butter/coconut cookie bars that are to die for. My dad loves to grill, so perfectly grilled salmon or corn or eggplant/zucchini remind me of him. My other grandparents always took me to Jewish delis, so whenever I have a tuna melt or kosher pickles, I think of them.
When I feel like shit, I want a big bowl of something warm and comforting, which is incidentally most of the foods listed above. Something starchy and cheesy and warm. Mostly soups and stews with potatoes, pasta, rice or dumplings in it. Stuff I can eat with a spoon, curled up in front of the TV. One of my favorites is roasted pepper and tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich. If I’m actually physically sick, I usually crave things that are kind of bland and starchy like pastina/pastellina or polenta with a little butter on it. 
I could talk about this all day so I'm just gonna shut up now. LOL

I wish there was a way to search for recipes with a codicil of 'yes, I do actually know how to cook.' The number of recipes that end up being 'how to make homemade mac and cheese: buy one box of Kraft® mac and cheese and eat it raw like the tasteless loser you are' sort of thing drives me mental, along with every 'authentic' Mexican recipe that instructions you to specifically buy Tostitos brand Extra-Mild salsa.
I am currently in the hell of 'homemade' spicy popcorn seasonings because i want to recreate the French Cancan Jalapeño Popcorn a friend got from Costco without having to go to Costco (what with me not having a membership, preferring homemade, and being poor). One recipe, obviously written by some sort of war crime enthusiast, calls for whatever measurement a 'packet of ranch dressing' is, presumably so that you can create the best kind of popcorn to eat when you wither want to lose the will to live or desire to know the true mind of Randy from Trailer Park Boys. Another recipe seems to think three tablespoons of icing sugar a rational amount to add to a sweet-and-spicy chilli seasoning, apparently operating on the same cooking principles that produced ‘barbecue’ potato chip seasoning, wherein a mound of brown sugar and salt is introduced to a single peppercorn via a telephone call, so as to protect sensitive palettes from the dangers of flavour.
