The Ukrainian Life Saving Center published footage of the evacuation of people after the russian chemical attack on Ukrainian territory.
just look at the condition of these victims. I can't imagine what they feel, and what a terrible pain it is.

unfortunately, the world leaders, who once guaranteed Ukraine complete protection, are trying to turn a blind eye to the fact that the russians are once again violating all international human and environmental laws.
I don't get tired of reminding and asking each of you not to stop supporting Ukrainians, spreading information about the russian war in Ukraine and not tolerating everything russian to show criminal russia and world leaders that you do not tolerate russian terrorism, its culture and products!

The Russian rapper Vacio (Nikolai Vasiliev) has been arrested and sentenced to 15 days in jail, he reported on Friday, just two days after he attended a party with an ‘almost naked’ dress code, where he was photographed wearing only socks on his feet and penis.
“I don’t give a fuck I’ll work out and read some books hahaha peace everyone,” the rapper wrote on Telegram.
According to the Telegram channel Shot, Vacio was charged with disorderly conduct for his appearance at the party. The channel also reported that Vacio was fined 200,000 rubles for spreading “LGBT propaganda” through one of his music videos.
Vacio was one of many Russian pop stars and other celebrities who attended the “Almost Naked” party. The event sparked outrage from conservative pundits and activists, who have called for responses ranging from a boycott to a criminal investigation.

Protesters waving Palestinian flags and banners on Wednesday called for a boycott of Israel at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in the Swedish city of Malmo, which will host the event next month. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) organises Eurovision and bills the song contest as a non-political event. However, in 2022, the EBU banned Russia from Eurovision after several European public broadcasters called for the country to be expelled following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The union said it suspended Russian broadcasters over “persistent breaches of membership obligations and the violation of public service values”. The organisers’ decision to include Israeli broadcaster KAN has sparked protests from artists and ministers, but the EBU said in January that Eurovision was not a contest between governments and that KAN met all competition rules. In February, more than a thousand Swedish music artists signed a petition calling for Israel to be excluded from this year’s contest.

‘Devastating’ melt of Greenland, Antarctic ice sheets found (AP) The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are now losing more than three times as much ice a year as they were 30 years ago, according to a new comprehensive international study. Using 50 different satellite estimates, researchers found that Greenland’s melt has gone into hyperdrive in the last few years. Greenland’s average annual melt from 2017 to 2020 was 20% more a year than at the beginning of the decade and more than seven times higher than its annual shrinkage in the early 1990s. “This is a devastating trajectory,” said U.S. National Snow and Ice Center Deputy Lead Scientist Twila Moon, who wasn’t part of the study. “These rates of ice loss are unprecedented during modern civilization.”
Climate change is causing more ‘heat stress’ in Europe (NBC News) A new study suggests that European citizens are being exposed to increasing amounts of heat stress as climate change continues to cause extended periods of extreme weather. The study, conducted by the European Commission’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, shows that the continent experienced a record number of hot days last year, on top of record-high average temperatures for certain regions during the summer. Heat stress has become an increasingly monitored impact of climate change—experts say that increased temperatures can cause rashes, dehydration, and even heat stroke. According to the report, 2022 was the second warmest year on record for the European continent. The summer was the hottest on record, with temperatures 1.4 degrees Celsius (2.5 Fahrenheit) above average, and 0.3-0.4 degrees Celsius above the average for the summer of 2021, which itself was the hottest summer on record. These high temperatures lowered rainfall totals and sparked wildfires across the continent, even melting Alpine glaciers at higher rates. 2023’s summer is expected to be even hotter than 2022.
Palestinian Chileans in the spotlight (Foreign Policy) Last weekend, Palestinian Chilean pop star Elyanna became the first artist to perform a full set of music in Arabic at the Coachella music festival in California. Chile is thought to be home to the largest Palestinian diaspora outside the Arab world; as many as half a million people of Palestinian heritage are estimated to live in the country, where support for Palestine enjoys backing across much of the political spectrum. Chilean President Gabriel Boric delayed issuing credentials to Israel’s ambassador to Chile last year over the Israeli military killing of a Palestinian teenager in the West Bank. While he was a legislator, Boric voted to support a boycott of goods made in Israeli settlements. He has also accused Israel of genocide.
British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab resigns after bullying findings (Washington Post) British Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab resigned Friday over bullying allegations, in another political embarrassment for Rishi Sunak’s government. Raab, 49, who rose to prominence when Boris Johnson was prime minister, resigned after an independent investigation and report concluded that he had bullied his staff and civil servants while serving in high office. However, he also criticized the inquiry for “setting the threshold for bullying so low.” He warned it could set a “dangerous precedent” and encourage “spurious complaints.” The move is another blow to Sunak’s government, which has been dogged by allegations of “sleaze” and impropriety after he promised to restore “integrity” when he took over as prime minister from Liz Truss in October.
Fleet of Russian spy ships has been gathering intelligence in Nordic waters (CNN) A joint investigation by public broadcasters from multiple Nordic countries has discovered something troubling in their icy waters. According to an investigation by state media from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland, some 50 Russian boats have been lurking off their coasts, gathering intelligence for over 10 years. The investigation compiled data analysis, radio communications, and intelligence sources to determine whether various Russian ships in the Nordic seas were being used by the Kremlin to gather information on the countries’ military installments, critical infrastructure, and even NATO exercises. Many of the surveillance ships were disguised as civilian vessels. One Norwegian military researcher says that Russia’s surveillance fleet could be much larger than just 50 ships. “We are talking several hundred,” he estimated.
Kremlin tries to build antiwar coalition in Germany, documents show (Washington Post) When 13,000 demonstrators gathered at the Brandenburg Gate on Feb. 25 to call for an end to weapons supplies to Ukraine, the protest was led by Sahra Wagenknecht, a member of parliament for Germany’s far-left Die Linke party and a firebrand with national ambitions. Wagenknecht decried the prospect that German tanks, soon to be delivered to Ukraine, could once again be used to shoot at “Russian women and men.” “We don’t want Germany to be drawn deeper into this war,” she said, as she called for the creation of a new peace movement and condemned the bloodshed in Ukraine. Among the crowd in Berlin was Jürgen Elsässer, editor of a far-right-wing magazine, and dozens of members of the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party who cheered Wagenknecht’s calls to cut off Ukraine. The coming together of political opposites in Berlin under the banner of peace had been percolating for months, though the union remains unofficial. But marrying Germany’s extremes is an explicit Kremlin goal and was first proposed by senior officials in Moscow in early September, according to a trove of sensitive Russian documents largely dated from July to November that were obtained by a European intelligence service and reviewed by The Washington Post. The documents—details of which were broadly corroborated by officials in Western governments—show for the first time the Kremlin’s direct attempts to interfere in German politics by seeking to forge a new coalition among Wagenknecht, the far left and the AfD, as well as to support protests by extremists on the left and right against the German government.
US Visas in India (Skift) U.S. visitor visa wait times in India have gotten seriously out of hand, with the wait time hitting 669 days as of mid-March. This off-the-charts visa issuing problem recently attracted the attention of the State Department, which is trying to get that down a reasonable amount by bringing processing staff in on weekends and allowing other embassies to serve Indian nationals. It’s a big issue: At the embassy in Mumbai, as of January wait times were 999 days for an interview. As of early April, the visitor visa wait time is down to 337 days, which to be clear is still roughly 11 months but is nevertheless a considerable improvement.
Ramadan brought rare calm, familiar worries to Jerusalem’s Old City (Washington Post) There’s an energy to these Ramadan nights in Jerusalem’s Old City. As the sun sinks and color seeps from the sky, the stream of worshipers quickens, following the bright lanterns that light the way to al-Aqsa. During Islam’s most sacred month, when worshipers fast from sunrise to sunset, there are few places holier than this. For Muslims around the world, the al-Aqsa Mosque compound is the location from which the prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven; for Palestinians in Israel and the occupied territories, whose daily lives are often shaped by Israeli government restrictions, it is also a rare place where they can come together in large numbers and on their own terms. Ramadan is meant to be a time of sacrifice that leads to renewal and strength. But as this year’s holy month draws to a close, many in the Old City couldn’t shake a mounting unease. Recent weeks have seen Israeli police raids on worshipers at al-Aqsa and bursts of retaliatory rocket fire and militant attacks. Under Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who helms the most right-wing and religiously conservative government in the country’s history, messianic Jewish activists are testing the informal rules that have long governed access to this ancient site, occupied by Israel since 1967. The Holy Esplanade, where al-Aqsa sits, is a potent symbol of religious and political identity for both Israelis and Palestinians. To Jews, it is known as the Temple Mount, where the faith’s First and Second Temples once stood; to Muslims, it is the Noble Sanctuary, the third-holiest site after Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
Special forces swiftly evacuate US embassy staff from Sudan (AP) U.S. special operations forces carried out a precarious evacuation of the American embassy in warring Sudan on Sunday, sweeping in and out of the capital, Khartoum, with helicopters on the ground for less than an hour. No shots were fired and no major casualties were reported. With the last U.S. employee of the embassy out, Washington shuttered the U.S. mission in Khartoum indefinitely. Left behind were thousands of private American citizens remaining in the east African country. U.S. officials said it would be too dangerous to carry out a broader evacuation mission. Battles between two rival Sudanese commanders entered their ninth day Sunday, forcing continued closing of the main international airport and leaving roads out of the country in control of armed men.
The world sees invasive seaweed. This gardener sees housing bricks. (CSM) Sargassum, the invasive, sewage-scented seaweed piling up on beaches across the Caribbean, isn’t something most people look upon kindly. But for Omar de Jesús Vazquez Sánchez, his first encounter was “love at first sight.” “Everyone said, ‘It smells horrible!’ and I remember thinking, ‘There’s something more here,’” says Mr. Vazquez, the founder of Sargablock, a small company in Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula that transforms the algae into construction blocks. He not only sells those blocks to construction projects, but also builds affordable housing in his community. “When sargassum started arriving, everyone was complaining,” he says, seated in the shade of his small nursery on the highway that connects tourist destinations Cancún and Tulum. He gestures to a stack of the reddish building blocks—the sargassum transformed. “I wanted to mold something good out of something everyone saw as bad.”

Culture, too, is a casualty of war. After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, some Ukrainian writers called for a boycott of Russian music, films, and books. Others have all but accused Russian literature of complicity in the atrocities committed by Russian soldiers. The entire culture, they say, is imperialist, and this military aggression reveals the moral bankruptcy of Russia’s so-called…

Leo Tolstoy Square, Street, and Metro Station
May 14, 2022: “Pushkin Street is located one kilometer from the Drama Theater in Mariupol where 1,000 civilians hid and an estimated 300 died after Russians dropped a bomb on it. In Kharkiv, it’s the same distance from the bombed-out central square of the city to the Pushkinska metro station. Pushkin’s streets can be found throughout war-torn Chernihiv, Kyiv, Sumy, Mykolayiv, and Kherson. There are even Pushkin streets in Bucha and Kramatorsk. The President of PEN Germany recently declared that ‘the enemy is Putin, not Pushkin,’ relying on word games to protest against the idea of a ‘blanket boycott’ of Russian culture. ...”

...Okay but the reaction to Russia and all things Russian is getting way out of hand. Y’all realise Putin does not equal all of Russia’s culture and history, right?
I mean I’m sure he’d love to be percieved as such but are you really gonna give him that?
And more importantly are you also gonna boycott all things USA, books, music, films, alla that over THEIR nonsensical wars?

Primarily an F1 fan but for some reason I have a very few pieces of knowledge about skating and I would like second opinions on things if that’s ok??? So I have a list of these
A) eteri tutberidze
B) kostornaia, lipnitskaya and valievain particular bc I love(d) their skating and also trusova and scherbakova
C) Beijing Winter Olympics??? Diplomatic boycotts? Also potential winners?
A) Eteri
I am not a fan of her training technique as a whole, not just the way they teach jumps at Sambo-70, but also the intense repetition approach. It works in mentally demanding fields. In sports, especially in figure skating, it has been proven to lead to long-term injuries and abrupt career endings. I used to be more reserved in terms of talking about my dislike of her as a coach, but the consistent children blaming, and especially the last interview she did made me want to be a little more outspoken. I'm not gonna put a name to it, but it gets you wondering a little what type of person decides that separating a child from their mother is a healthy motivation for winning an Olympic medal.
B) Kostornaia — my favourite Russian lady of the last quad. Her artistry is undeniable, and I do believe that comes mostly from her previous coach. She’s also quite sassy, and reportedly has been the one person to say no to Eteri when she felt her body was not able to sustain the harsh training. Good for her in my opinion, and fingers crossed it will keep her in the game long enough to get to Milan 2026, hopefully with a coach that cares about their athlete's wellbeing.
Yulia — a hard one for me, because while I wasn’t huge on figure skating back in 2014, I do remember watching her performance and being entranced by her. Her spins are exquisite, maybe not quite Lucinda Ruh-level, but definitely at the top. What happened to her should have never happened, that last performance at Rostelecom 2016 made me cry when I watched it, and I’m glad she’s happy and healthy now. Hopefully, she will become an awesome coach and be able to share her experience positively, so that no athlete has to go through what she did.
Valieva — I’m not the biggest fan of her programs, as I don't feel anything when I watch her skate, just "oh my god, the score is growing exponentially", but she seems like such a sweet girl that I want her to succeed just so I don't have to see her upset. Her spins are beautiful, she has amazing flexibility. Jumping technique—classic Eteri (I like her extension out of the jumps, but the take-off on some of them is ify), but that’s not Kami’s fault in any way. I just wish her programs were better and something she connected with more, but again, that's on Gleikh, not on her. I hope she has a long enough career that we get to see her perform better programs.
Sasha — I love her, she’s my second favourite after Aliona. The power in her jumps is phenomenal, and to me, she seems like the most likely skater out of that camp to make it past adolescence. Her artistry is not the best there is, but I really like the Frida program, I think it suits her well and she did improve tremendously this season in terms of interpretation.
Anna — like Kami, she’s not my top skater, but her resilience is undeniable. She has such a strong mental game for a 17-year-old. Her jumps—Eteri technique, take–off is bad on some of them, her spins are sometimes messy as well, and I do think her programs this year are kind of boring. That being said, her FS from Nationals last year is one of my favourite performances she’s ever done. I also really like the music and her costume. She is a product of the environment she’s essentially grown up in, and I hope when she inevitably retires, her body is not that affected by the training style.
C) With how little tiny o is going, I can't say I'd be surprised if it gets postponed one year. About the diplomatic boycott, I understand why it is being done. It's maybe too political for what I am comfortable with, but it's valid, those horrible things are happening and they should be acknowledged in a way that is visible world-wide, and this is a peaceful way to do so, especially given the political circumstances.
Potential winners, I'm only gonna do Ladies, because everything else can be easily jinxed, I think.
Realistically:
Gold—Kamila
Silver—Sasha
Bronze—Anna or Kaori
How I want it to go:
Gold—Sasha
Silver—Kamila
Bronze—Wakaba or Kaori or Mana or Loena

The boycott of Russian art is super annoying because on the one hand there's that conductor guy who generality sucks and like campaigned for Putin being asked to come out against the war or gtfo (also there are other accusations about his treatment of women so the gtfo option isn't exactly a loss)
And on the other hand people want to ban Russian from duolingo or make orchestras stop playing music by (mostly dead btw) Russian composers or w/e

So lately Western companies and megacorporations decided to ban Russians from using their products (which includes Google Pay) and to boycott Russian products. Some Western organizations went extra mile and decided to ban Russian literature or music.
Today I’ve woken upon to an e-mail from Coursera that a course from Tomsk University I enrolled into is going to be suspended.
I understand why such measures are done, really. However, the more I think about it, the more it looks like a punishment of Russian people more than of their government.

All people are talking about is scores scores scores scores. It’s alright when they come from the field and know what they are talking about. But the rest? Scores shouldn’t even bother you. They are not meant for you. Scores are for the skater. Why don’t people just appreciate the beauty of it? Talk about dresses and makeup, share your favourite moments from the programs, etc. Why are you putting numbers over emotions?
Alright, some decided to boycott Kamila and ignore her existence altogether (which hurts to see, but whatever). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on this whole mess of a scandal. But I’m still gonna talk about her. She had all the chances to become one of the greatest female figure skaters of our time. Now, I don’t know… thinking about it makes me depressed. What a fucking waste of talent, hard work, determination and potential. Kamila once said: ‘I’m trying to put a piece of my soul in very skate and I hope people watching it can feel that’. The world didn’t deserve her.
Why no one is talking about Anna’s skating? I haven’t seen even one appreciation post about her performance. And she’s been through a lot, too. So much hate and doubts if she is even worthy of going to the Olympics. She’s proving it again that the place is rightfully hers.
As for my favourite girl Sasha, people should stop parroting about how she’s all about jumps and elements and nothing else. Look closer. She’s improved tremendously. I find her very passionate in this program, I’m just not a fan of the music. The girl is getting tired explaining what is her goal and motivation each time 😆 It’s okay, Sasha, you’ll get there eventually! Not that she needs our encouragement. And that’s why so many people love her.
I’m not very good with words. I feel a lot but fail to express it verbally. My main point is that I wish people could be kinder and look past their anger and disappointment and, at least, appreciate 2 of the 3 Russian girls. That would be nice.
