#but idk I’m glad they didn’t force a romance at least. imo they didn’t really have romantic chemistry in that second scene. at all

am i the only one who feels like alex(the world ender guy) was kind of a missed oportunity in vide noir? like, he was set up by johnnie to be a badass gang leader just for him to never even appear in the end, we just got a close up to his face scar
i feel like buck's encounter with the psychic would've been way more powerful if it was alex instead. its implied that johnnie and moonbeam had a relationship ig, but its barely even hinted at, and he never even mentions her. but with johnnie and alex, johnnie actually mentions him and speaks highly of his brother, and says alex will help buck if he sees the red cloth that belonged to johnnie
the fact that all that build up led to buck not even TALKING to alex kinda irks me. imagine how much better the payoff would be if alex had received the cloth instead of moonbeam? if we had seen his reaction to johnnie's death? if he would've helped buck like johnnie said he would? if we saw what johnnie implied alex would do to the guys who black brained his brother? idk man i think we were robbed
im new to the fanbase, so im gonna be very embarassed if this is a topic that already came up here LOLL but i still wanted to get it off my chest💀sry if this ask is messy, i suck at writing down my thoughts lmao
No I gotta agree on that. Like I LOVED seeing Moonbeam and getting know her as her and having all this new information about her (her being part of the World Enders is still wild to me and I love it) and it’s a good scene and all, but I’m still confused as to why they built up Alex so much, especially since this is the first time we’re hearing about him, and he never even got the chance to speak. If it were Dale I’d be a bit more understanding as we know him already (tho not by much cause I would have loved to see more of Dale). But it’s Alex, whose not only the leader of the World Enders but also Johnnie’s (and Dale’s) brother. I would’ve have loved to, you know, actually meet the guy. Especially with how much build up he got. And I GET IT Lord Huron’s lore is meant to be weird and vague and hard to pin down but like. Didn’t need to tease me like that come on
The only reason I could think of was maybe they needed to get Buck on his own again? Like having this the beginning of a war between the World Enders and Z’Oieasu shown or having Buck work with them consistently might have thrown off the tone. It is supposed to be Buck’s story and his own descent into madness. The whole album has this isolated vibe to me, like being alone in a city of people Hard to get that when there’s other people around, especially a group as lively as the world enders. Or maybe they just wanted to include Moonbeam back into the story again lol
GOD I would have loved to see Moonbeam’s scene with Buck done with Alex. I can only imagine how that scene would’ve played out and his reaction to Johnnie’s death. Contrasting Buck’s scene with Johnnie with Alex’s own personality, the possible dynamics, the anger and grief that could arise…..ough

Why R U? episode 10 (plus speculation)
Starting with Saifah and Zon this time!
Last episode was, like, this perfect rom-com vacation episode with Fighter and Tutor, but I am glad to see Saifah and Zon again. And, after their kiss, they went to Saifah’s room and (rather more chastely than Tutor and Fighter) slept together. Very cute soft cuddles. Zon waking up and not panicking when he sees Saifah’s face so close to his; very nice.
A flashback to Saifah making Zon’s guitar pick bracelet! This is so cute! Oh, I really like this sequence; we’re getting to see what feels like Saifah’s PoV on falling for Zon.
Then we go to Tutor and Fighter, and Tutor is already out of bed, mostly dressed, and having some variety of second thoughts -- or at least, somewhat confused thoughts. Which tracks with some stuff he’s said from the beginning. He’s been the one who asked Fighter if he was abnormal, who said men kissing and hugging other men isn’t normal, who asked his sister what it meant to kiss someone of the same gender. He’s also worried more about what other people would think if they saw Fighter so close to him, has worried about society’s reaction. It feels very realistic of him to have those concerns and doubts; I’m just noting them.
But then they gave each other gifts and it was very soft and cute. 💖
Ah, the scene out on the pier was playful and sweet. Fighter telling Tutor he’s good at everything, including kissing. Ha! 💖
Little face time with Tutor’s mom! Who Tongta has told everything to, so she’s super supportive from the get-go. Good sister & good mom. 💖
Fighter is also concerned about pushing too hard and getting overwhelmed with his feelings and going too far. Maybe because he repressed things for so long and when he did break, he forced a kiss on Tutor that got an immediately negative reaction? A lot of early episode tension came out of that kiss. Fighter likely doesn’t want a repeat. Their early pattern had a lot of Fighter trying to push Tutor to react to him, but then when they had their romantic breakthrough moment, much of that dynamic has flipped.
...so, given the way ‘panning to an object’ has been structured in these shows, I get the impression that something happened in the sauna and then also again next to the pool, yeah?
Underwater kisses! Playing Final Fantasy X when I was younger has given such a fondness for underwater kisses (...actually, FFX may be relevant in other ways, but I’ll hold that thought until the end).
Tutor mentioning again about telling Hwa... I hope it goes well (there aren’t subs in the ‘next week’ on, so idk what her initial reaction is) but I just get a vague feeling of dread from the idea, because of Fighter’s dad. I hope it’s unfounded!
So... now I want to talk for a bit about the elephant in the room with this show -- is it ‘real’? There are no spoilers below, but there is speculation that’s based on some stuff cast & crew have said.
One of the things that people on twitter have been worrying about the last couple of weeks is that there might be a sad ending, one that wipes away essentially the whole series. This is actually something the director, too, I believe, brought up in an instagram live that he did recently -- he asked fans if they would rather the series be one season long but with a happy ending, or have two seasons but this season would have a sad ending where it was revealed that what we’d been watching was actually Zol’s novel. Because of COVID-19, they weren’t able to complete filming yet, I believe, and they added two extra episodes to the end of the season, which... may or may not be related?
I’m still new to Thai dramas, so I don’t know how likely a ‘gotcha’ plot twist like this might be as a trope, so I’m going to process through some thoughts on how I would feel if it happened, without getting too much into the likelihood.
It would absolutely depend on how it was handled and if it actually did invalidate the entire series or not. If we’re just watching ‘Zol’s novel’ (a meta novel where her brother gets mad at her a lot and people talk about being in her novel) and the romances are actually non-existent in ‘real life’, that would be a disappointing plot twist because it would mean nothing we watched actually ‘mattered’ and there wouldn’t be any point to the series continuing (all imo, of course). I’m not sure how the writers adding an extra two episodes to the end of the series could apply in this case, though? Like, once you’ve revealed that nothing actually happened, will anyone care to watch any more of the series? Or maybe the assumption is that the big reveal would get moved to the end of episode 14?
Of course, a reveal that we’re watching a ‘fantasy’ could mean a couple of other things. Not just that nothing was real. Yes, if we’re watching Zol’s novel, then the ‘real’ Zon, Saifah, Tutor, and Fighter are potentially completely unaffected by what happened in everything we’ve seen.
If, on the other hand, we’re maybe watching Zon’s imagination based on Zol’s novel, then it becomes a storyline potentially about Zon’s queer awakening. Or if it’s a shared dream between Zon and Tutor based on Zol’s novel, then it’s a storyline potentially about Zon AND Tutor’s queer awakenings. In both of the latter cases, then it’s something that could lead to Zon and Tutor pursuing things IRL with Saifah and Fighter. On the other hand, it would mean Fighter’s incredible character revelations and development would vanish or need to be rebuilt which would be disappointing for me personally (Saifah was a sweetie from the start tbh). Also, if the backstories for the characters are ‘accurate’, then Zol becomes kinda of a stalker into the lives of her brother and his friend circle.
Another other option that involves novel-related shenanigans happening, but in a way that doesn’t invalidate the characters’ choices and feelings, is that Zon & Zol’s deal manipulated circumstances but not the characters’ feelings. That would still mean everything that happened really happened for all the characters but might still lead to them questioning things, thus, drama. And those last three options are kind of what remind me of FFX -- Tidus was a dream and not technically a ‘real person’ in some senses... except that he affected the people around him enough that he essentially created himself as a real person, and was able to (in the happy ever after endings of FFX2) transcend the dream and become a reality again, based on Yuna choosing the dream over reality and bringing him back. Tutor has made a couple of comments, in particular, that reminded me of that -- saying that if he and Zon really did fall into a novel, it’s better than his real life is.
Or, it’s Zon having an overactive imagination and the vow didn’t do anything at all except make him get anxious (we didn’t see TeeFuse & TharnType actually interact with any characters except Zon, I think) and the drama will come from the characters as established in the storyline so far. We’ll find out!

Hi! I really love your Oracle posts. I haven't read a lot of Batfam stuff, but I think Barbara really is at her best when she's Oracle, and it's a shame that DC keeps trying to ignore that part of her character history. I was wondering if you could give me some recommendations as to where to start reading Oracle, and what comic runs to avoid?
Okay, so first I am glad you love my oracle posts ^_^ thank you! and she is definitely at her best as oracle.
Sadly I don’t have any oracle reading lists set up atm but i’ll tell you what I read
I read Birds of Prey (1998) which was 127 comics long. the most oracle content is in the first half, the team gets bigger and then the oracle content starts getting less and less there.
so I would start at Birds of Prey #1-46. This is Chuck Dixon’s run and somehow the weird conservative guy was the only one who didn’t do a magicure plot.
the issues he did that I would definitely skip here are 28, 29, and 30 when you’re reading because they struck me as really racist.
If you don’t like Chuck Dixon as a writer (and I wouldn’t blame you) i’d only read the best issues, which are outlined below:
The best issues in the chuck dixon run for oracle content IMO are Birds of Prey #8 (which has some very important things wrt quality of life and disability articulated) and Hunt for Oracle, which shows us just how formidable Oracle can be in her home turf. That was a crossover issue between Oracle and Nightwing  (nightwing 45, Birds of prey 20, nightwing 46, birds of prey 21). there are other issues i like her in, but those ones stick out in my head as don’t mis.
Then there are 10 issues of guest writers which sucked. one had a magicure plot, the other just brought nothing but some weird romance drama.
then there’s the gail simone run.
the pros of the gail simone run is she is much better at writing women than chuck dixon and seems to be a better writer in general. the downside is now the cast is larger and she also decides to do a magicure plotline eventually (temporary but i still hate it). to the best of my knowledge there wasn’t a huge deal made of it and oracle wasn’t like “oh now i’m whole” like she was in Terry Moore’s writing but still. it was unnecessary.
So far, I’ve re read 56-65. it establishes a nemesis for oracle and i like some of her dynamics there, and she gets to be scary. there is also a lot of black canary and shiva content you might enjoy if you like those characters.
i will be cataloguing my favorite issues and least favorite from gail simone’s run later, but since i only read through it once it’s less fresh in my memory.
outside of birds of prey, i like barbara in no man’s land. in no man’s land volume one, we see the fact that with the infrastructure in gotham crumbling, she is at a disadvantage that able bodied people are not, but also due to her preparations and the fortifications of her base she has a lot of advantages everyone else does – she both doesn’t need to leave her apartment, because it is well defended and she has a good stock of food, but she also can’t leave it, because of the inaccessibility outside. it’s some nuance i’m not sure i see able bodied writers include often (I can’t remember who wrote this issue, so i have no clue whether they were able bodied or not).
no man’s land volume 1 also has an ending plot with azrael which had some important notes on quality of life and disability.
no man’s land volume 2 has some crossover issues with nightwing, in which babs gets to defend her base (again) and be awesome. basically any time bab’s defends her base she’s at top tier. however this part had some disappointing things, in that it was implied that barbara being in a wheelchair was what stopped her and nightwing’s relationship. weirdly enough, this showed up in nightwing but not BoP even though they had the same writer at this time. maybe there was a cowriter or something on BoP making it better or a cowriter on nightwing making it worse? IDK.
No Man’s land vol 2 also has cassandra cain’s introduction which :P not oracle, but awesome anyway.
outside of no man’s land and birds of prey i’m not really sure where to go. birds of prey is barbara’s longest running series, it starts as a duo title between her and black canary and gradually the cast gets bigger (most cast expansion happens in simone’s run).
there is also a 3 issue solo mini series called Oracle: the Cure. despite appearances, it is not about magicuring. it had some good content, IMO, but also be warned: If you are pedantic about comics matching reality or at least being possible, the “computers are magic” vibe here might frustrate you :P
for more oracle as a side/supportive character, she appears a lot in Batgirl (2000-) as a mentor for Cassandra (though I dont’ remember a ton of moments that make me think this is an essential oracle series. We do see that she tries to keep some of Bruce’s unhealthy habits away from Cass and protect her, but also that Cass feels a bit stifled and like barbara is being overprotective or trying to force her into doing “normal” things) and Batgirl (2009-) as a mentor to stephanie brown. In batgirl (2009-) she interacts with another woman who became disabled and now uses a wheelchair, and sort of takes her on as a protege, which I liked, but she’s not the main character. the main character is stephanie.
