1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 Fastback
1969 was, effectively, the final year for the Shelby Mustang. By now assembly had shifted in Michigan from California where it was contracted out to A.O. Smith Corporation. Smith, an established Motor City contractor, had brought a level of serious manufacturing skill, supplier management, procedure and standards never seen at Shelby’s facility where LAX met the vibrant (and sometimes extreme) subculture of Venice, California.
Now largely designed and specified by Ford staffers, the 1969 Shelby Mustang was drastically different visually from the standard Mustangs, with a completely different nose and grille, a wide rectangular opening with blacked out grille flanked by 7” headlights and with Shelby’s characteristic driving lights now smaller rectangular pieces below the attractive, but largely ineffective, bumper. The special Shelby hood had five ducts, three NACA-style surface ducts replaced the complicated but entertaining shaker hoods of years gone by to supply cold air directly to the engine air intake and two extractors at the back of the hood relieving underhood pressure and exhausting heated air in front of the windshield.
A surface duct behind the headlights and a scoop behind the door and in front of the rear wheel arch that was ducted to the rear brakes continued the performance theme. The rear panel was completely different from the Mustang, housing a set of 1965 Thunderbird sequential taillights with the rear license plate placed between them and including a small ducktail spoiler. The area under the bumper where standard Mustangs carried their license plate contained two rectangular outlets for the Shelby’s dual exhaust system. Standard wheels were unique 5-spoke Mag Stars with alloy centers and chrome steel rims.
Under the hood lay the 428 Cobra Jet which had powered the ’68 Shelby GT500KR. Both Ford and Shelby recognized the superiority of the high performance CJ and made it the standard engine for 1969’s Shelby Mustangs.
At the end of the 1969 model year 789 Shelby Mustangs were in-process at A.O. Smith. They were visually updated with black hood stripes and a chin spoiler and given new VINs. Otherwise the 1970s were exactly the same as the ‘69s making these two years essentially identical examples of the end of the Shelby Mustang series which had begun only a scant six years before.
Avidly sought by collectors and obsessively documented by the Shelby American Automobile Club, most Shelby Mustangs are well known and have well known histories. Occasionally, however, a example appears which has been out of sight for years. Even more rarely it turns out to have been little used and continuously maintained by a thoughtful and caring single owner for nearly forty years.
The Black Jade 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 Sportsroof fastback offered here is one of those rare and highly desirable cars. It was delivered new to Ford’s dealer in Yokohama, Japan, Marubeni Motors K.K., and was sold thereafter to its first, and only, owner in Japan. It has been repainted in the original color once but is otherwise completely original, as delivered and has only 84,941km on its metric-calibrated export speedometer (52,779 miles.) Its sympathetic maintenance and care shows throughout in its clean, straight, rust-free condition.
Power of course comes from the 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet Ram Air V-8 engine which Ford and Shelby conservatively rated at 335 horsepower at 5,200rpm and a gut-wrenching 440 lb-ft torque at 3,400rpm. It puts the power through Ford’s highly regarded C-6 automatic transmission and Traction-Lok differential with high speed 3.00:1 gearing that takes full advantage of the CJ engine’s torque. In addition to the highly desirable drivetrain specification it is loaded with options including the Visibility Group, Goodyear white letter tires, Sport Deck folding rear seat, power front disc brakes, power steering, tilt steering column, Selectaire air conditioning, AM/8-track stereo radio, tinted glass, deluxe belts, tachometer and trip odometer.
It is finished in one of the Shelby Mustang’s most attractive colors, Black Jade. The interior and high back buckets seats are upholstered in black Clarion Knit/Corinthian vinyl that complements with Black Jade exterior.
It returned to the U.S. in 2006 but has never been titled by its current owner so it remains a one-owner car. Its absolutely clear history, one-owner provenance, highly original condition with known mileage and extensive options list are attributes shared by few Shelby Mustangs of this age. This is a rare opportunity for an astute collector to acquire a particularly significant, unmolested Shelby Mustang from the last, and most highly developed, series.

The 1963 Impala featured rectilinear styling with an engine-turned aluminum rear taillight panel surrounded by a chrome border on SS models. Engine choice was similar to 1962, with the small-block 283 cu in (4.6 L) and 327 cu in (5.4 L) V8s most popular. The Stovebolt six-cylinder engine was replaced with a new 230 cu in (3.8 L) Turbo-Thrift six that used thinwall castings and would continue as the standard engine for Chevrolet cars through 1979. The Sport Sedan featured a new, creased roof line. A new "coved" instrument panel included simple indicator lights for hot and cold engine conditions. An optional factory tachometer was built into the dashboard, just above the steering wheel. Impala wagons got triple-unit taillights for the first time.
A special 427 cu in (7.0 L) version of the 409 cu in (6.7 L) engine was used in the 1963 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe, ordered under Chevrolet Regular Production Option (RPO) Z11. This was a special package created for drag racers and NASCAR and included a 427 with aluminum body parts and a cowl-induction air intake system. The aluminum body parts were fabricated in Flint, Michigan at the facility now known as GM Flint Metal Center. Unlike the later second-generation 427, it was based on the W-series 409 engine, but with a longer 3.65 in (93 mm) stroke. A high-rise, two-piece aluminum intake manifold and dual Carter AFB carburetors fed a 13.5:1 compression ratio to produce 430 horsepower (320 kW) and 575 lb⋅ft (780 N⋅m) of torque. Fifty RPO Z11 cars were produced at the Flint GM plant.

Audi is launching sales on May 20 of attractive equipment packages for the Audi A1 and stylish appearance packages for the Audi A4 and A5 – the new Audi Q7 and Q8 edition models will follow in sommer. In addition to the “S line competition” equipment line, Audi has also enhanced the performance of the A1 Sportback 40 TFSI from 147 to 152 kW (207 PS).
The Audi A1 Sportback has been proving itself since it was introduced to the market in 2010 not only for city driving but also over longer distances. The most recent accolade, the Auto Trophy 2020 in the “City Cars” category, selected by readers of the German magazine “Auto Zeitung,” underlines the high ranking of Audi’s most compact model. The 2022 models of the highest-performing model, the Audi A1 Sportback 40 TFSI, is available with 152 kW (207 PS) and 320 Nm torque – as part of the adjustment to the current exhaust emission standard, an increase of five kW.
In addition to the enhanced performance, Audi is offering the equipment package “S line competition” and red stitching for the sportiest compact model to highlight the sporty nature of the exterior and interior with subtle but unmissable features. The “S line competition” package can now be ordered for the Audi A1 Sportback 40 TFSI as well as the 35 TFSI and the 30 TFSI.
The package includes, among other things, platinum gray side mirrors and platinum gray laminated Audi rings for the paint option Ascari blue. With the roof in contrasting Mythos Black as well as the side rocker panels, the Singleframe grille in matte black and the frame in high-gloss black, the four rings in front and back as well as the badging are also in black. Combined with the darkened LED headlights and LED taillights, they harmonize perfectly with the metallic color Ascari blue, which is available for the Audi A1 Sportback 40 TFSI exclusively with the “S line competition” equipment package.
The front spoiler blade in matte platinum gray, the side mirror body in platinum gray and the laminated rings in platinum gray above the rocker panels together with the metallic paint color Ascari blue are particularly eye-catching. The S line rear spoiler in Mythos black and the diffuser clip in platinum gray complete the color options exclusive to the new equipment line “S line competition”. Fans of the A1 can also look forward to optional 18” wheels that enhance the sporty look further.
Audi Sport GmbH is also offering the stitching in red with the S line interior for all A1 models. The red accents in the interior highlight the sporty nature of the compact A1. For their front sport seats, customers can choose between a combination of fabric and mono.pur leatherette or Alcantara and mono.pur leatherette. Both options feature express red stitching. The floormats, handbrake handle, gear shifter and steering wheel also feature red decorative stitching. A center armrest and door arm rest with red stitching can also be ordered optionally. A black sunroof completes the sporty interior.
The Audi A1 Sportback S line competition is available to be ordered in Germany from May 20, 2021. Delivery will begin in August 2021. In Germany, the A1 Sportback S line competition starts at 27,470 euros.
Audi A4 and Audi A5 even sportier in a new dark look
The Audi A4 and A5 go into the new model year in May with the “S line competition” and “S line competition plus”, two new appearance packages that with attractive features that make these two models look truly sporty.
The appearance package “S line competition” for the Audi A4 includes the S line exterior package as well as an additional black package. It includes a matte radiator grille, a blade, a strip to protect from stone chipping, an S4 spoiler as well as the Audi rings in the Singleframe grille all in black. 19” cast wheels make the package even more dynamic. For the Audi A4, the “S line competition plus” package also includes LED headlights, an ambient lighting package, black side mirrors and an illuminated entry sills with aluminum inlays in the front. In the new model year, customers can also order both versions of the Audi A4 sedan with a roof in Brilliant black. The spectrum of colors for exterior paint ranges from Terra gray, Quantum gray, Daytona gray, Tango red, Glacier white, Navarra blue and Turbo blue to Mythos black. In addition, solid finish in Ibis white is also available with Brilliant black side mirrors.
As with the Audi A4, customers can also choose their Audi A5 between the “S line competition” and “S line competition plus” editions. The exterior design of the “S line competition” for the Audi A5, with 20” wheels, is based on the S line exterior and additionally features striking black elements such as the spoiler and radiator grille. With the “S line competition plus” for the Audi A5, matrix LED headlights, black side mirrors, red brake calipers for motorizations of 150 kW and more as well as the ambient lighting package highlight the car’s dynamic look. Exterior finish options are Distrikt green, Quantum gray, Daytona gray, Tango red, Glacier white, Navarra blue, Turbo blue and Mythos black. The Audi A5 coupé is also available with a roof in Brilliant black.
The Audi A4 and the Audi A5 with “S line competition” and “S line competition plus” will be available to order on the German market from May 20. Delivery will begin in July 2021. In Germany, the Audi A4 S line competition is available starting at 38,250 euros and the Audi A4 S line competition plus starting at 45,400 euros. The Audi A5 S line competition starts at 43,200 euros and the Audi A5 competition plus starts at 49,600 euros.
Top models in the Q family in a sporty look
In the SUV segment, Audi is heading into the 2022 model year with the edition models Audi Q7 and Q8 competition plus. Optional equipment for the exterior and interior add even more appeal to the biggest members of the Q family. The appearance package black plus makes the S line exterior package stand out even more with its dynamic look for the Audi Q7 as well as the Q8. The black Singlegrame grille including the gills and frame as well as black Audi rings and clips really set the front of these two edition models apart.
A new carbon package, already available as an option for the Audi Q7, with carbon mirror housing and door inlays, highlight the sporty nature of these edition models. For the Audi Q8, the Singleframe mask is also glossy black. Both vehicles are delivered on 21” aluminum wheels. The Audi Q7 can be ordered with optional 22” wheels and the Q8 even with 23” wheels. While the Audi Q7 features black decorative elements in the new “S line competition plus” line, the carbon bumper of the Audi Q8 really highlights the sporty nature of the SUV. Both edition models are equipped with red brake calipers and welcome passengers with an LED projection of the S logo.
Dark tones, specific color accents such as optional red decorative stitching on the seats and steering wheel and the carbon decorative inlays that are familiar from the S-Models also characterize the interior of the new Audi Q7 and Q8 edition models. This is complemented by a carbon insert for the shifter.
Audi Q7 and Q8 competition plus will be available to order on the German market in June from 78,170 euros for the Q7 and 84,500 euros for the Q8. Delivery will begin in late summer.

Inside, Nissan opens up an airy cabin with tons of storage compartments and cloth or available leather upholstery. Rocker panels with available chrome inserts also broadcast the Pathfinder name. The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder retains the same general exterior proportions but reimagines some classic cues from the first Pathfinder that launched for 1987. Inside, Nissan optimized the space of the Pathfinder, which is slightly shorter than the outgoing model but far roomier. Nissan’s U-shaped grille flares out to thin daytime running lights like wispy eyebrows over the standard LED headlights. With its first new suit in nearly a decade, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder retains that high vertical face with short overhangs, and the three-slot grille bridges a flat hood with a broad face, similar to the original.

The V-6 engine remains the same, but a new transmission, all-wheel-drive system, and electric steering rack allow drivers to better match the seven available drive modes with conditions on or off road. Redesigned for the first time since 2013, the fifth-generation Nissan Pathfinder sports a new look inside and out, and comes loaded with the latest convenience and safety technology. It earns a strong TCC Rating of 6.8 out of 10. The redesigned Pathfinder doesn’t try to be a performance crossover or an electrified dynamo, but it is very good at what it is meant to do: hauling up to eight passengers and towing up to 6,000 pounds in comfort and with the latest technology.

The 1963 Impala featured rectilinear styling with an engine-turned aluminum rear taillight panel surrounded by a chrome border on SS models. Engine choice was similar to 1962, with the small-block 283 cu in (4.6 L) and 327 cu in (5.4 L) V8s most popular. The Stovebolt six-cylinder engine was replaced with a new 230 cu in (3.8 L) Turbo-Thrift six that used thinwall castings and would continue as the standard engine for Chevrolet cars through 1979. The Sport Sedan featured a new, creased roof line. A new "coved" instrument panel included simple indicator lights for hot and cold engine conditions. An optional factory tachometer was built into the dashboard, just above the steering wheel. Impala wagons got triple-unit taillights for the first time.
A special 427 cu in (7.0 L) version of the 409 cu in (6.7 L) engine was used in the 1963 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe, ordered under Chevrolet Regular Production Option (RPO) Z11. This was a special package created for drag racers and NASCAR and included a 427 with aluminum body parts and a cowl-induction air intake system. The aluminum body parts were fabricated in Flint, Michigan at the facility now known as GM Flint Metal Center. Unlike the later second-generation 427, it was based on the W-series 409 engine, but with a longer 3.65 in (93 mm) stroke. A high-rise, two-piece aluminum intake manifold and dual Carter AFB carburetors fed a 13.5:1 compression ratio to produce 430 horsepower (320 kW) and 575 lb⋅ft (780 N⋅m) of torque. Fifty RPO Z11 cars were produced at the Flint GM plant.
