Summary:

Bucky, a siren from the sea, hears a band playing near the shore, so he swims over to take a look.

This is when he meets Steve, a musician. At first, Bucky wants to eat Steve, but instead Bucky is adopted into Steve's band and his cabaret show. They perform together, and Bucky quickly falls for Steve.

Unfortunately, Steve is already engaged to someone else.

Bucky's siren sister comes to the surface to remind Bucky that if he isn't careful with his heart he could turn into sea foam.

This Side of the Blue

I’d like to recommend This Side of the Blue by notlucy. This fic is seriously one of the best I’ve ever read. The story line and writing is amazing and, as a bonus, many of the chapters have an accompany piece of absolutely stunning art. This fic honestly reads like a novel and the author does an amazing job. If you like mermaid AUs or stucky AUs in general then you have to read this!

so i read Making a Splash! and i really loved bucky in that, like he doesn't understand things that humans do and he's so innocent it was really fun to read his pov. i was wondering if there are more fics like this?

“Hide that,” he says, forcing the words out past every instinct. “As well as you can, all right? Before morning.”

Steve stares at him blankly, like he needs a moment to work this out, then swallows once, sharply. “What’s your name?” he asks at last—asks as he stands there with the pelt in his hands.

And oh, he thinks suddenly, what is his name? He can’t speak it, not with this mouth, he can’t sing it into the air like he can in the ocean. He just shakes his head; like his nakedness, it’s something he can’t explain. Steve nods, just nods, his eye swelling shut and blood drying on his shirt collar, and says “we’ll figure it out.”

(An AU where Bucky is a young selkie who is accidentally called to Steve and ends up staying around to help this poor, wretched kid not die.)

Love everything you guys do!! Could you help me find a modern mermaid au? I can't find any that are really what I'm looking for, which is something other than 'ones a mermaid, and ones a sailor/pirate and it takes place in fantasy land.' Like modern, where mermaids are a 'myth' ? If that makes any sense?? Tysm

What it says on the box, really. I got bit by the fantasy AU bug, and because I watch more Disney than is strictly good for me, this is what my brain came up with. A Little Mermaid AU that nobody asked for, featuring changeling merman!Bucky and Navy sailor!Steve.

For the purposes of this fic, the Barnes children's ages are reversed - Rebecca is the elder, and Bucky the younger. The age difference is around seven years; at the beginning of the story, Bucky is two, and Rebecca is nine. Also, the narration is a little fourth-wall-ish; I've tried to tell it like a real fairytale, so on occasion the narrator 'speaks' to the audience. I just felt like I should mention that.
