The thing that's wild to me is the trans movement would have sooo many more allies if they were just... normal about it all lmao. Like 8 years ago, everyone was a trans ally. I was a trans ally. You were a trans ally. We were all trans allies 8 years ago. They could've taken a moment 8 years ago to say "okay here's some universal definitions and goals. Let's be consistent and normal." That would've been fine.

Instead, the movement is now the Alok Lia Thomas Andrea Long Chu puberty blockers child transition free for all.

So people who were once trans allies are now moving on and supporting other more important and coherent social movements.

Fake

Jeremy was terrified of being left behind. And clowns. And bees. And public pools. But mostly the first thing. After realizing he was aromantic, he thought he’d be doomed to being a crazy frog guy who was used by the family as a cautionary tale of the dangers of never getting married, but his family and Lia had helped him realize that as long as he was loved he’d have a home, a place in the world.

And then his family died.

But he still had Lia. He wasn’t the same after the attack, he knew that. On top of losing his entire family, he’d also found out monsters existed, wasn’t he allowed to be a little weird about it?

Amalia never called him on it. The differences. But sometimes he swore he could see it in her face. She knew he was a fake. She knew he wasn’t the person she’d chosen to be friends with and he’d never be that person again and one day she’d get tired of playing pretend with a stranger and leave him alone--

So, he buried the anger, the fear, the sharpness, and lent into the jokes, the sarcasm that he just barely remembered, even if it sometimes felt like disgusting, filmy makeup, even if he sometimes ended up leaning too far, it made Amalia roll her eyes and relax and that was the important part.

He and Lia fell back into their rhythm and, slowly, he got over the fake thing. What did it matter if he’d changed? Amalia had changed from a kickass little seven year old to a kickass lawyer-to-be. It didn’t matter that Jeremy wasn’t the same, he was still the guy who’d cheered her on at every kung fu tournament, who walked dogs with her through middle school, who nearly dislocated her shoulder dancing bachata. Jeremiah Chu-Blanco was Amalia De Leon’s best friend. Always had been, always would be.

And then it turned out he wasn’t. He’d never been those things. He was a fake. A tool using Jeremy Chu’s corpse to move around. 

It was nice having a place while it lasted.

Reflection, Twenty Individuals

Working on this project offered me a profound opportunity to connect with a diverse array of individuals while learning their stories and experiences. Interviewing multiple individuals, from teenagers to adults, each participant shared a unique narrative that spoke volumes about their journey to America and their evolving sense of identity as immigrants. As I listened carefully to their stories, I was struck by the depth of emotion and the richness of perspective in each conversation. Working on this project let me explore many different perspectives on what it means to be American. Through these conversations, I gained a deeper appreciation for the resilience, diversity, and shared humanity that define the immigrant narrative in America.

is besties with Lincoln, decided on this after realizing Lincoln was also into art, Lincoln was not consulted 

has the large serpent tattoo on his shoulder, wanted to cry the whole time, but needed to look cool in front of Lincoln, it was Jer’s first tattoo

loves Abel’s nerd rants and is genuinely taking mental notes when he does

ends up with all weapons, all lore docs and in a mixed route 

is besties with Reina and Delia 

thinks Connor is the coolest thing since sliced bread and imprints on him like a duck

gets along best with Danni of the ILB crew but they roast each other in a way that makes people think they hate each other
