as for a fic to rec, THIS IS REALLY HARD, but i'm gonna go with the help my life (be worth your while) series. so for all of you out there who haven't read it yet, here's the first fic in the series:

don’t unfold me by iriswests (1/1 | 4.2k | T) minor eddie/ana; angst; introspection; pining; (not actually) unrequited love

it feels a little bit like skipping church on sunday. like some gradual inevitability that eddie probably saw coming long before it escalated, but it still comes as a surprise when he wakes up one day and realizes it’s been a couple of weeks since he last went to church with his grandmother. and then he just — never goes back. it feels like that, only here he’s somehow still in the process of digesting the truth, and he still believes he’s going to go back, one day. he’s just too busy this week. he hasn’t slept right. christopher’s too tired. some combination of the three. buck giving his back to eddie to focus solely on taylor kelly feels a little bit like realizing he’s skipped out on church for the past couple of weeks, and for a terrifying minute, he wonders if this means he’s never going back.

oh man, i remember when i first read this fic and it just??? totally fucking destroyed me. you have SUCH a talent for writing and the way you weave some of these sentences together has me in total awe. not to mention, everything about eddie's angst just felt so tangible and real. i loved how you explored his relationship with religion and church—i was raised catholic and am no longer, but it definitely had such an impact on my childhood and the shaping of my relationship with guilt and shame and so to see this explored with eddie is just so fucking beautiful. i love this entire series and how we get buck's POV in the next fic and it's just. oh man, ceecee. IT'S SO GOOD. you should be incredibly proud of yourself.

recovery isn’t easy, or linear. eddie lets buck get him one of those old fashioned button-up pajama tops because they’re easier to slip his arm into without moving his shoulder, but he doesn’t ask him for help with shaving until he cuts himself trying to do it himself and breaks down crying in the bathroom. not because it hurts—he watches the blood trickle down from his cheekbone for a few seconds and suddenly feels completely overwhelmed, live everything is way too much. or a fic on eddie’s recovery after 4.14.

this is legitimately one of my FAVORITE post-shooting fics. you hit every single beat i wanted canon to explore (but knew would never happen)—having it be from eddie's POV and just showing how his recovery would impact him both physically and emotionally, how he'd feel about buck being there to help him through it all, and then along the way coming to terms with his understanding of his sexuality and his feelings for buck....jesus, i love this fic so much. EVERYONE should read it. thank you so much for writing and sharing it with the rest of us <33

FELICITY!! i adore you but i have taken weeks to respond to this ask bc i just....HOW DO I PICK? you CAN'T ask me to rec only one of your fics! i've been editing your fics for the better part of a year now. you're so prolific! you write a new amazing, lengthy fic like every 2 weeks! and honestly half the time it feels like you're writing specifically for ME, i love your fics so much, they are exactly the type of canon compliant lengthy well-written nuanced fics that i love to spend hours devouring.

but if i HAVE to, i think....

oh man, i know how much you struggled with this series, but it's gotta be the just to be with you 3 part series. so for my followers who haven't read the series, here's part one:

alone again with night to you by woodchoc_magnum (3/3 | 37k | M) canon compliant; minor eddie/ana; pining; angst w/ a happy ending; getting together

in which eddie and ana are dating, buck is secretly in love with him, and christopher isn't handling it well.

this entire series is just....fucking pERFECTION. the following two parts are just as amazing—this entire series really covers the whole gamut of the relationship, starting with the pre-relationship pining phase (where you! practically PREDICTED canon with your buck and christopher talk pre-4.08), then into the hidden relationship arc which you KNOW i'm a sucker for, and then spending the third fic dealing with the all of the fallout of their parents finding out. i really think this series is one of my favorite depictions of the buckley and diaz parents bc it's just...super nuanced. the entire series just! KILLS ME! and i have re-read it more than once bc i love it so much 😊😊

honestly i remember the gap between when you wrote part 2 and part 3, and i was just as eager, if not MORE eager than your readers, waiting for you to send me the draft for the final part bc i was so desperate to know what happened next. the entire series lived up to all of my expectations and really filled my heart and soul with happiness.

you have such a gift for writing buck and eddie and you really capture their voices, especially eddie's. normally i'm not big on AUs for 911, but man, i love ALL of yours, and this one really hits the spot. this is also the fic that desperately made me want to see them handle a wildfire in an arc, and tbh i'm still a little bummed that was given to LS. i love this fic so much and i rec it whenever i can—it deserves all the love. thank you so much for writing it!!!

when eddie’s abuelo passed, his abuela turned her grief into a garden of marigolds and poppies and told him that flowers tell a story, written in their own unique language. a single flower carries a garden of weight, and she warned him not to confuse chrysanthemums with carnations. (i love you; i disdain you with all my heart). she taught him the ones she knew, and he took it upon himself to learn the rest. quickly, he learned, it is a language of both love and hate. harebells of grief and black dahlias of betrayal, snapdragons for deception and hemlock for death. yes, roses are full of love, but a bouquet of the wrong hue is laced with jealousy and “i’d rather stay friends”. (or; buck is determined to woo eddie, and eddie finally finds a use for his fluency in flower language).

i remember reading this when you first posted it over the summer! there's just something about soft eddie diaz knowing flower meanings and trying to woo buck and the two of them coming together in the sweetest way possible. i tend to usually read lots of angsty fics but this one is just sooo good i don't need the angst—i adore this fic!!

“you okay?” eddie asks. buck blinks his eyes back open and glances over to find eddie dutifully watching the road, but with a tight grip on the wheel and a worried crease between his eyebrows. buck has the sudden urge to smooth it away, somehow, but he holds back. eddie isn’t just asking about the headache or the exhaustion, and buck knows that, but he’s not sure he wants to get into the rest of it right now. so he shrugs and says, “i’m fine. hen and the doc both cleared me, remember?” (aka: buck is a little less fine than he realizes, in the aftermath of the factory fire.)

gonna be honest i am, perhaps, at times TOO into fics where my faves get sick or injured and no one realizes how bad it is until they pass out of puke or collapse or what have you. and this one!! is one of those peak fics. i LOVE that buck is at eddie and christopher's when he finally realizes just how hurt he is, i love that chris is the one who goes to get eddie for help, i love that it's this whole moment for their family unit. just!! IT'S SO GOOD, DUDE! thank you for writing it!

a combat medic and a G.I. meet during one of the world's greatest battles. a WWII european theatre based AU.

i'm gonna be honest, i normally avoid historical au's. i don't even read canon time period fics for shows like merlin, bc i fee like so many historical fics are doomed to end unhappily. but this concept intrigued me SO much (and the happy ending tag soothed my worries) that i decided to give it a shot. i remember that i opened the fic and then just...casually left it open in a tab for almost a month before i worked up the nerve to finally bite the figurative bullet. and then i just fucking binged this fic in a single day. it's THAT good. your writing is so vivid and you really capture buck and eddie's characterizations, even in this new setting. i loved everything about it—and the arc of them together after being separated from their unit when eddie gets injured and buck refuses to abandon him as they hide out and try to survive? PERFECTION. those chapters kill me. for anyone who hasn't read this fic, you should get on that IMMEDIATELY bc this fic deserves to be devoured.

GOD RACHEL, we've been friends for almost a literal decade now which still BLOWS MY MIND bc i remember reading your suits fics on livejournal and loving all of them so much. i don't know if you remember, but i'm pretty sure i'm the one who sent you your ao3 invite!! i commented on one of your lj fics and was just like "do you have an ao3?? do you need an invite??" and then i offered up one of mine and i have NEVER regretted it bc your fics are amazing, i love your writing, and if you ever decide to start posting fics again i will CELEBRATE so hard.

as for a favorite, this was really hard to choose, but i've always loved:

something inevitable by tattooedsiren (1/1 | 14k | Ex) suits; mike/harvey; alternate universe; alternate pilot; canon divergent

he would be lying if he said he wasn't tempted. because he has known mike for a grand total of twenty minutes and already knows that mike would work hard, could excel if given the chance. and more than that, he likes this kid, his bravado and cheek, the way he can give back as good as he gets. and harvey only expected to find someone he could tolerate; he never anticipated finding someone he actually liked. but he can't do it. there are bigger things at play here. he would be betraying jessica—she’s done so much for him, more than he could ever enumerate, and hiring someone with no degree is not a fine way to repay her. so as much as he wants to go back, to say, "you're hired, you start on monday," he can't. he won't. instead he says, "the coast is clear."

i'm suuuuch a sucker for canon divergent fics like this that ask "what if one single decision was different, how would that change everything?" and this fic is just SO good at staying within the spirit of canon but tweaking everything just so to see where these characters would take us. i love this fic, i love you, thanks for being such an awesome person <33

after the finale aired i was desperate to read all the buddie fics regarding what could happen next and this was one of the first fics i read...and then it was the first in a series!! i think the second fic might actually be my favorite, but the entire series is amazing and everyone should read it!!

oh man, i remember reading this fic when you first posted it after the s4 finale and it just stabbed me in the gut! i love this fic so much, love the way buck is so scared, how he keeps calling eddie who keeps reassuring him...until eddie becomes concerned too? and the scene of buck taking chris to the hospital, who's sick and confused and upset bc he thought they were just going to the doctor and the hospital is such much scarier? GOD i love this entire fic so much. chris really does have two dads and you wrote this beautifully 😭😭
