price is the type to wheeze. it sounds bloody awful, like he's in pain and is unable to catch his breath. honestly, seeing him bang his fists on the table laughing makes you laugh. although that is only if he's very comfortable with you, if you're his significant other or family. if you're a soldier, he'll chuckle quietly, scoffing and rolling his eyes playfully at your pathetic jokes.

simon isn't the type to laugh, he smiles more than he laughs. if you say something funny, he might snort and look away, grinning from ear to ear. although if he's comfortable then he may laugh a little louder, probably while he's drunk at home.

soap, oh, soap... he's obnoxious, and so is his laugh. if you're in scotland, you could probably hear it all the way from australia. his laugh is constant and he can barely breathe if he's laughing loudly, sometimes his laugh is funnier than the joke. he's the type to cry laughing, probably piss himself laughing if he's too drunk and can't control his fits of laughter.

gaz wheezes, it's a pained wheeze, sometimes sounding like a window wiper. his laugh is funnier than the joke, it always is. he grabs his stomach and bends over laughing sometimes, barely able to keep his balance. he'll wipe the tears from his waterline as he grins, thinking about the joke before getting the both of you into another laughing fit.

könig, like you said, is a snorter. he snorts when he's comfortable, which in turn makes you laugh even harder. you bend over laughing at his laugh, which causes könig to fall to his knees laughing. if he's not comfortable, he won't laugh. he stares at you. he doesn't mean to come across as hostile or harsh, but he doesn't know what you expect him to do or say. perhaps he'll chuckle a little, maybe fist bump you if he finds you tolerable.

krueger giggles almost, it's a mixture of a chuckle and a giggle. he covers his eyes when he laughs, chuckling at whatever he finds funny. he doesn't laugh often, so it's pretty rare if you manage to get him to laugh, but god does his laugh make you smile.

My favourite hot take is that Simon adapts way better to being a civilian than Johnny does.

Johnny went and left for the army the second he could do so, relentlessly pushed his career and is, most likely, rarely not on base unless he's been told to fuck off or move his arse home (by either his superiors or family).

Simon on the other hand finished school and then took up an apprenticeship before joining the army. Even then he came home, took prolonged leave to help his family out. He spent way more time just living that reality. And even post Roba he was at home for a while before everything went to hell. He might not take a lot of leave since, because he has nothing to come home to, but he still knows to adjust to it.

If they take leave together Ghost settles remarkably well, still keeping an eye open but he's an adult who had time outside the forces to properly adjust to life.

Soap struggles. He gets by with his charm and bright blue eyes, and that's a good thing because he's too explosive, too intense for most normal social interactions.

He's caught somewhere between the 18 year old boy and the hardened SAS soldier and never spent enough time away to really grow into just John MacTavish. Not Sergeant, not Soap, not the FNG. Just him as a person outside of the military.

He navigates this part of his life like its a minefield. Making it through but boy oh boy, it's not looking graceful.

Ghost helps him mellow out in that regard, pointing out the messy weird mechanics of normal civilan life to him. Teaches him to enjoy that and not let his job ruin him. Simon who knows how quickly it can all fall apart can't help to see the beauty in the peace most people get to experience. He'll be damned if he can't share that beauty Johnny. Even if it's always just for a little while.

And because it's Ghost, who never steered him wrong Soap let's himself be led. Allows himself experiences outside of work and his family. And while he might not be eager to admit it, it makes him a better person.

And years down the line when they both made it out, last mission just one too many that was too close for comfort, all of that helps John MacTavish to adjust. Sure he mourns his life in the military, someone like him is bound to, but he's not too worried. He knows how to get by now. And even the days where he feels very out of his depth, he can approach with ease. Because he still has Simon at his side to show him the way forward.

The bartender immediately shrunk back, the insult dying in the back of his throat while he scurried. He didn't need to ask you what happened: you could feel his eyes on you the whole time — watching, staring, keeping an eye out for you. You smile into your drink. So he does care. Even after you've moved to a different bar, Simon still followed you everywhere. At some point into the night, Simon leaned forward to drape himself somewhat awkwardly behind you, his frame caging yours ( he could easily rest his chin atop your head in this position, but you know he'd rather choke ). You closed the gap between your arms in a quiet act of gratitude, pinky lightly tapping his thumb. Simon didn't pull away, lifting his head to continue brooding ( and scaring everyone away.) 02| When he saw you shoved against the table by one of the recruits, Soap had run, practically sprinted over tables to insert himself between you and the aggressor. You know Soap doesn't care much about the rules, in the sense that he prefers making his own judgment of what's right to do at the moment, and now he's proving himself right by swinging his right fist against the poor soldier's jaw. With one swing, he immediately fell onto the ground with a loud thud. You placed a hand across your mouth, jaw hanging at the unexpected blow. He turned to ask if you were okay before being pulled into a brawl. In the end, he was sent on cleaning duty for half a year, sporting a small scratch against his lip. It was worth it, he told you, grinning at the fact that he won. You kissed him 'thank you' on the cheek, patting his chest before leaving him to mop the floor. ( careful on the way out bonnie, it's slippery!) 03| Everyone was staring at the man berating you, a few curses slipping past his lips as he pointed a finger toward you. It was one of those rare moments at work where a customer gets out of hand, and when no one in the line behind him did anything, you were ready to leave — barely able to tolerate the abuse when out of the blue, a voice called out from the entrance. Alejandro stood there with his jaw clenched, eyes flared, and fists curled, clenching the bouquet in his grip. in the face of the leader of the Los Vaqueros, the man wavered and started profusely apologizing, practically shaking in fear at the mere sight of the city's hero. Alejandro ordered the man to leave, voice stern and laced with anger. Once he left, everyone in the store thanked him, and he was automatically by your side with a hug. Are you hurt? He asked, kissing your forehead and patting your head comfortingly. Alejandro told you he'd make sure to pick you up from work whenever he can now, his anger forgotten as he's thankful he was there to intervene (even if he knows you can take care of yourself.) 04| You always appreciated König's presence. Even if you've never said it out loud, having him on the team gives you a sense of comfort. With his size and strength, you feel assured — safe even. Yet you never really see him lose his composure. Sure, he gets a little too excited during missions here and then, and the rush of adrenaline sometimes makes him more jittery. But you've never seen König as dangerous. Until the enemy had you under their knife. In a blur, König had slammed himself against the attacker and away from you. As if the enemy weighed nothing, König had lifted him in the air and slammed his body against the knee. The sharp and brutal crack was enough to make you look away. Alles gut, Maus? You nodded silently, heart racing in a strange mixture of admiration and fear. He gave you a hand up, trailing behind you until the mission was over. And even then, you began to notice that he was always within arm's reach: your very own shadow, watching you from underneath the hood.

Headcanon : Ghost has always understood Spanish.

Based on a convo I had recently with @simonriley1994

In the Las Almas arrival cutscene, Alejandro asked Ghost and Soap "You know Spanish?", to which only Soap answered that he did not. Meanwhile, Ghost just stayed silent. That got me thinking.

According to his biography, Ghost has spent years and years in the stealth business and covert assignments, even earning his callsign for his efficiency and lethality right? Plus, the bio said that he "seeks solitude" and "thrives" in ops with little to no support. Bro likes being alone.

That makes me wonder, if he does stuff alone around the world, it would be stupid of him to not learn another language or two beside English. My theory is, he actually understands Spanish and probably Russian and other languages. However, if you're learning a language, it usually starts with understanding what people speaks before you can actually speak them.

Ghost is at that stage for all the foreign languages he knows, and when he speaks Spanish, it's the BRITISHEST Spanish ever.

Now here's the funny part: When Ghost and Soap entered the car, Rudy said to Alejandro, "Tengo miedo de los fantasmas" ("I'm scared of ghosts"). What if Ghost understands what he said???

And when Rudy decided to push his luck by saying "With that mask, you'll fit in well here Ghost.", Ghost looked at him UNIMPRESSED. But what if he was half that, but also half messing with Rudy? Like he knows Rudy's kinda scared of him, and then he decided to mess around with Rudy all the while telling him not to 'fuck-around-and-find-out' with him.

Like he's aware that Rudy's scared of him, but when he saw that Rudy still had the balls of steel to joke around with him, I'd like to think that Ghost's is half "...bitch..." but also half amused.

It's no surprise to anyone that Soap can be downright stubborn about any aspect of his life, and one of the things he's most stubborn about is learning. He knows his own methods, and he always believes he's capable of teaching himself anything that's needed of him no matter how inconvenient it might be.

It's part of the reason he has such an ""issue"" with authority. He knows his own capabilities and damn it he doesn't need anyone else to be showing him how to do it. When he was a rookie he'd always find his own methods to learn anything new. Unconventional and inconvenient for others, sure, but it's perfect for Soap.

When he's brought into the 141 this trend remains, only with less pushback from his superiors. Price has seen the things Soap has achieved, and he trusts him when Soap states his methods are needed a certain way for those results.

Now, when Ghost is finally introduced to Soap this causes them to butt heads. Ghost, similarly, knows what works and likes things to stay that way. He sticks to the procedures that he knows work, the results speak for themselves, why ever switch it up? Soap finds issue with this.

Ghost requires Soap to learn how to knife throw after a close call in a mission where it would have likely saved him had Ghost not been there. Ghost, having the most experience with this, takes it upon himself to teach Soap. He learns quickly that Soap is an awful student. At least that's how he sees it at first.

Soap argues against Ghost's explanation of technique, stance, grip, anything under the sun that he explains. Ghost, thoroughly annoyed at that point, tells Soap to "shut it, or teach it to yourself."

He expects Soap to snap back, or to brush him off with a joke like their typical banter. Instead, Soap gives him a shockingly genuine smile and says "So I have permission to teach it to myself then?"

Ghost is stunned for a moment, knowing that it's a difficult thing to master by yourself when there isn't anyone pointing out the adjustments needed to be made when throwing. But he ends up nodding, really just intrigued to see how Soap fares by himself.

Soap nearly masters it in three days.

When he asks Ghost to watch him after those three days, he's shocked to see Soap's accuracy to be almost on par with his own.

Soap turns to him after he's done throwing and fixes him with an expectant expression. Ghost nearly misses his cue to respond. He stumbles out an "Impressive, Johnny" and his Sargent beams.

After hearing about the hours Soap spent holed up teaching himself the proper technique over those 3 days, Ghost never bothers to question Soap's methods again. He still offers occasionally to ""teach"" Soap things, or just accompany Soap while he works on such things, though most of the time Soap declines.

All of this is what causes so much surprise when Ghost witnesses Soap's methods fail him for the first time. (Potential part 2 later :3)

Quality Time

Soap is an avid football fan and loves to watch the games on TV, getting very animated and passionate when he does so. Soap is also so passionate when he tries to tell Ghost who all the players are, what teams to root for, and even all the drama that has unfolded off the pitch. Ghost is a fairly decent cook, having had to teach himself at such a young age, while Soap tends to like things that are done fast and easy. At first Soap was only allowed to cut certain vegetables and stir but the two of them have enjoyed learning together.

They both love going for drives and being outside when they’re on leave together. They’ll plan to enjoy the fresh air of a hike, climb, or swim when they get the chance. They’ll be out for 12 hours a day and come home exhausted to fall asleep in each other’s arms.

Acts of Service

With Ghost having overused his body as a weapon for so long, he tends to get sore nowadays. When Soap notices one of these days, he will happily provide Ghost with a massage, especially around his shoulders and back. Rolling out the knots and pain, Soap will watch as Ghost melts under his firm and delicate touches.

Ghost also tends to forget to charge his phone at night, so Soap will do it for him. Usually Soap will find his phone buried in the bedsheets and put it to charge after Ghost has fallen asleep or he’ll remember to do it in the middle of the night. Ghost’s phone has never run out of battery but not for a lack of Ghost trying. To this day, Soap thinks Ghost still doesn’t realize.

Ghost will clean Soap’s weapons and sharpen his knives whenever he is doing his own. He always makes sure to take extra care with Soap’s belonging because it could be a matter of life and death. And Ghost is going to make sure they both come home at the end of the day.

Ghost also doesn’t mind cleaning, the monotony and routine of it comforting in a way. He never thought he would get the chance to do domestic things so it welcomes it when he can and enjoys the feeling of being “normal”.

Gift Giving

Neither of them tend to give each other many gifts and only do it occasionally. Their lives in the military have taught them to be able to pack light and move fast. Both of them find that no object can ever replace the excitement and joy they get from just being together.

After they get married, Soap gifts Ghost a set of dog tags engraved with Simon MacTavish. Professionally, Ghost still answers to Riley – they learned this the hard way with a couple of mishaps and callouts to the wrong person while on a mission which led to undue confusion. Therefore it made sense to keep separate names while on a mission. But everywhere else in Ghost’s life, he is a MacTavish through and through.

Ghost always knows when Soap is nearing the end of his notebook and gets him a new one before its done. He will also give Soap a new set of nice pencils to work with as well.

But the most important gift they ever gave each other was their simple, gold wedding bands that lay proudly on their hands.

Every year around Easter Ghost hides somewhere on the training grounds. If you find him you get half of his leave.

Soldiers all around go fucking feral, Ghost never takes any leave and there's rumours that start around Christmas of how long you'd be able to go home. Weeks probably aren't enough maybe a few months? Some are sure it's at least a full year.

Except of course no one ever finds him.

He's the Ghost and if he doesn't want to be found he isn't. He's just taking the piss, enjoying how the event has people riled up for weeks. He's not one for practical jokes, but this has him cackling.

Enter Soap, the FNG, the man who brings Ghost to his knees. They do their whole song and dance, and come Easter Ghost is hugging his boyfriend before preparing to hide.

Soap promising with a cocky smile that he'll find Ghost and they are going to use that leave for a nice holiday. Which Ghost smiles at, his sweet naive Soap, as if he's gonna hand him a win just because he loves him.

Imagine Ghost's shock when a few hours later he spots Johnny from his hiding spot. He's still high in a tree but the other man is walking directly in his direction and after a few moments he looks up.

Once Ghost is down the tree, still incredulous, but also very much in love, he asks Soap how he did it.

"Let my heart guide me, L.t." is the answer he gets which he calls out for the bloody nonsense it is.

Takes him all the way back to base to make him talk. And even then Johnny just hugs him, reaching around putting a hand in his back pocket (not unusual) and digging around (definitely unusual). Producing a small piece of technology.

"You fucking tracked me?!" his jaw nearly drops at the realisation.

"Aye, slipped it in this mornin' when we hugged."

"You little shit." is all that his brain will allow, mostly hung up on the cocky smile on Soap's face. The same as this morning.

He should be fuming. His proud record broken, he actually has to make good on the promise that so far has been all but hypothetical. Price will be in hysterics about the amount of paperwork that comes with it.

But he can't find it in him to care. He's mesmerized at Soap outplaying him. Drunk on the weird sense of pride that Johnny is so observant and skilled. Most of all he's blown away by the fact that he never even considered the possibility. It would be easy to blame hubris here, but that's not the reason no-one ever pulled a similar stunt.

The Ghost that met Soap a few months ago would've panicked at this point. Soap had not only seen his weak spot, he clearly was also cunning enough to use it to his own advantage.

The Ghost that has been loved by Johnny for months now doesn't. Because he trusts him. And because he's proud. And because the rational part of his brain realises that any enemy agent would never have exposed their advantage for a game.

"If you ever do anything like this again-" he doesn't need to know where he wants to end that sentence, but Soap's interjection saves him the trouble "No worries, I like meself alive too."

He'll still have to be careful next year. After all he found a worthy opponent and he can't just make it too easy on him. Probably can not let Soap touch him before the game. Maybe not even the night before. Just to be safe. A fortnight should do it. But that also means a fortnight of not touching Soap...

But he can consider that later. For now he and Soap have a holiday to plan.

You had insisted on buying it, telling him that driving for hours must have been exhausting; a quick coffee run was the least you could do. So when he saw you by the rearview mirror getting hit on by a creep and then verbally harassed for turning him down, Gaz practically shoved the car door open to interfere. His hands curled around the lapels of the shorter man, holding him in place while his voice lowered with a threat. Once the man raised his hand in defeat, spewing about how he didn't want any trouble, Gaz had let him go with one last shove; only walking away cause you told him it wasn't worth it. By the time you returned to the car, the coffee was already cold — his attention focused on you instead. Eyes apologetic even if it wasn't his fault. " Next time, I'm getting coffee. Clear?" You bit the inside of your cheek to hold your smile, already feeling better. His hand, reassuring on your thigh. " Clear." 02| You've seen Price frustrated, his head in between his hands, hunched over the table. You've even seen him angry: chairs flipped over at the knowledge that Shepherd's been lying to them this whole time. But you've never seen him furious like this — the rage rippling off him in waves, silent yet overbearing; you would've thought the temperature in the room had dropped. His grip against the man's hand was vice, grounding the man who had verbally cussed you out in place. Price's eyes flickered to yours, checking if you were injured, asking if you were okay. Once you nodded, he lowered himself to the Major's face, not caring if he was talking to a fellow higher-up officer. " If you think you're going to fucking get away with this, you're wrong."

The next day you heard the Major lost his job, and when the news broke out, you tried not to make eye contact with Price from across the dining hall: knowing that he'd stare right back at you.
