Really, much of my wardrobe I kinda copied from her, Keiko, and Sumire of Shinagawa, so dressing up with more dark clothes wasn't all that bad. I kinda like it!"

1. "Up next, we have, perhaps, the youngest couple in this competition. Both women have only been dating for approximately a year now, but that doesn't take away the love and care they have for each other! They've been friends for far longer than that, and both know each other inside and out! We'll see if that knowledge, and their young age and cuteness takes them far in this couples' pageant! Please welcome, the popular YouTuber with hundreds and thousands of fans, Criss "Paradox" Hiromi of Akihabara, and her partner, the first-ever winner of the Ms. HypMic Pageant, 2023's most beautiful and talented woman in all of Japan, Kanade "Spooky" Alarie of Kyoto!"

"Next up, we have perhaps the most hot-blooded duo in all of this competition. ...Well, I say 'hot-blooded', but really, these contestants are actually fairly level-headed... so long as you don't say or do anything to piss them off! If you do, well... you can only blame yourself if you wind up with third-degree burns! The competition will really heat up with these two, so let's give them a heated welcome, shall we? First, we have one of the most decorated chefs in all of Japan, Luis "El Dorado" Kōkyū of Aoyama! And his partner, well-known librarian and model, Aoba "Guinevere" Yamamura of Kumamoto!"

3. "It's best to think of the song, "Opposites Attract" for this next couple, because these two lovebirds are on opposite sides of the law! One is a dedicated officer of truth and justice, while the other is not afraid to bend the rules behind her computer screen! Despite that, they've managed to both catch each other's eye and have been in a "not-so secret" relationship with one another ever since! They've got knowledge in various departments, but will that knowledge help them both in this competition? We'll find out! "I've not seen her around here much, if at all, really. I think she tries to avoid Minato like the plague. Truthfully, I only know her because my son likes her comic book or whatever it is that it's called. Besides that, I also know of her because of Aika Yumi. I'll admit, at first, I thought it was a coincidence that they shared the same name. After all, having the same surnames is quite common in today's world. Back when I lived in America, I couldn't tell you how many Johns, Bills, or Franks, I knew. Talk about originality." Kai rolled his eyes at the memory.

"Anyway, I later found out that the two of them were mother and daughter. And apparently, she despises Aika due to her lifestyle. ...While I can understand feeling some sort of frustration about the way your mother lives her life, from what Aika tells me, she's tried on multiple occasions to try to make up with you, kid. Take it from me, you're better off trying to make peace with your mom, ASAP. I'm probably not the best person to speak about such things, but... just trust me on this, kid. You'll regret it for the rest of your life, otherwise."

Criss Hiromi

"I've seen this young girl wandering throughout Minato a few times in the past. Apparently, she fashions herself as a 'paranormal investigator'. I don't know if that's such a wise career path, but at least she's having fun. I just hope she's making sure to do ample research on these places she's going to. From what Zakari tells me, some of the places in this country aren't for the faint of heart. I'll take his word for it."

Nikki Yoshie

"Would you believe me if I told you that I've actually had to do music for some video game soundtracks? It's true. I was the head producer for one video game called 'Fight Barrage'. It was a pretty obscure game made back in the 90's, but they wanted to do a reboot with new graphics and a killer soundtrack, so they asked me to make up themes for the characters. It was... interesting, to say the least."

"Anyway, I first met this young girl because she was beta-testing the game. I didn't recognize her at first, since I don't really pay attention to video games, but I later found out that she was Nikki Yoshie, the #5 video game player in the world. ...Huh, I met an actual celebrity, and I didn't even know it. Maybe Zakari was right. Maybe I am old-school..."

"This is the probably that second Akihabara team I've heard about. ...If I'm being honest, these three do more to represent Akihabara than the previous team we expounded on, Pixel Syndicate. Not saying they're tougher, but... well, whichever team comes out ahead, they'll have definitely earned it. I wish the both of them the best of luck."

“Ah the YouTuber- Kirumi says Kana-chan talks a lot about her” Aiko smiles “So i went and checked her channel out- not my usual cup of tea but at least it’s interesting content.”

“I was an advocate for her when she got a copyright claim on one of her videos for using my music- don’t even know who fucking used my name to file it but I know their in legal trouble big time”

It would seem that you were only admitted into this tournament to eradicate the team my dear Otome Tohoten deemed a threat. Clever… using that wrath you hold so strongly onto to have you in her grasp.”

She swiped the photograph off the table. No point in recruiting some throwaway pawn who’s only role is to—

When you are inevitably casted aside by someone you held in high regards… someone such as yourself, who knew the ins and outs of Chuhoku…

She clicked her tongue and threw the photograph to the side, not bothering to watch as Criss’s photo landed on top of Keiko’s. “Useless. Absolutely useless.”

“Nikki Yoshie, age: twenty— no… nineteen, occupation: e-gamer, ethnicity: Japanese and Australian. Notably skilled with technology and the digital world, but nothing about you is remotely intriguing or useful.” She scoffed and carelessly tossed the photograph on the floor.

“Pathetic.”

“As of yet, this is the most dull team I’ve laid eyes upon. They are not interesting in the slightest! It almost makes me hesitant to use them…”

Keiko Yumi, you may have caught my attention momentarily, but in the end, there is nothing you could provide for me.

She got up from her chair and hovered over the three photographs she’d thrown off the table. They were messily stacked on top of each other.

“So this girl’s a university student and striving to become a nurse while releasing mangas regularly.” Anika hummed. “We often get students from her school interning or shadowing at our clinic, so I’ve seen Yumi-san in passing. We’ve exchanged greetings here and there— now I know what you’re gonna say, ‘But Dr. Kiyozaki! How can you tell she’s saying hi to you if you’re deaf!’ Well, I can lipread just fine!” she said with a chuckle. 

“I hear she’s a good person, she’s got some fantastic grades and she’s pretty gifted, too! There’s some interesting rumors circulating around her about her mother… if you want my honest opinion, I do find the situation to be quite sad, but I don’t think she’s entirely a blameless victim. That’s all I have to say, I sure hope she’s doing alright…”

Criss Hiromi

“Hiromi-san! She’s stopped by my clinic a few times. She tends to come in and ask about different uses for hypnotism— like if I can contact ghosts, spirits, and whatnot. It’s kind of funny, but it’s no bother at all— in fact, I find her never-ending curiosity to be pretty adorable! So I’d say I’m more of a skeptic when it comes to the existence of supernaturals, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t stumble across her YouTube channel here and there. She’s pretty entertaining! And hey, it never hurts to venture out and look for what could be all around us.”

“Though hypnotism can’t exactly be used in the way she would want to use it, if she ever wants to stop by my office to meet up some more, she’s more than welcome! Well… taking paperwork and appointments into consideration, of course…”

Nikki Yoshie

“Yoshie-san… A gamer just like Makina! By my understanding, Makina is more of an entertainer and Yoshie-san is in competitive e-sports. I’ve been told that Yoshie-san is a lot more tame than Makina is. Getting into professional sports, e-sports or traditional, is definitely no easy feat. Good on her. I hope she doesn’t go down the route I did, but I’m sure all is good.”

Anika’s previous smile dropped. She crossed her arms and drummed her fingers against her other arm, her lips forming into a straight line. “Huh… so this is one of the many teams we’ll be competing against in Akihabara’s preliminary rounds…” She stacked the photographs on top of each other and averted her eyes. “For crying out loud… first you rope me into participating and now you pair me up against other teams you’ve picked out yourself… Chuhoku… just what are you planning…? Why can’t you just leave me alone…”

She shook her head and sat up straight. “Sorry, girls, I’ve got nothing against you, you’re a lovely bunch. But I just can’t afford to lose this. I just can’t.”

Soon after the package from the Setagaya team appeared, two more packages appeared for the birthday girl in question, though one was slightly smaller than the other. Picking both up, she brought back in the house. Opening the smaller one first, her eyes grew wide as it was an... album cover. ...A death metal album, for that matter. Opening it up, she looked as it was made by, none other than, her favorite metal band, 86. On the back of the album was a note that said,

"Happy fuckin' birthday, kid! Hope you're having a hell of a good one. I figured I needed to pay you back for last year for my birthday, so I sent you an EP of some of the songs my band and I have been working on. Those songs aren't on the market yet, so don't go selling them off! Last thing I want to hear is these tracks on the Internet somewhere. I shouldn't be sending these to you, but I figured you deserved it for being one of our biggest fans. Hope you enjoy them!"

Kanra smiled a toothy smile as she couldn't wait to play these songs later on. Putting the album off to the side, she turned to her other present and opened it up. Her eyes grew wide at what was inside the box. It was... a birthday cake. But not a regular cake. It was a cake made out of cupcakes! And they were arranged to spell out the number '18', signifying her age. On top of the box, a letter was addressed, which read:

"Happy Birthday, Kanra-chan! 😁I hope you are having a very good one, bestie! Sorry I sent this so late. This cupcakes took forever to get done! 😒 Plus, it was really hard not to eat one of them! They were so tempting! 😫 But I knew you'd probably not like it one of them was missing, so I stayed my hand and stomach! 😆 I really hope you enjoy them! And happy birthday again!"

“Goodness, that's how many sweets you've eaten now?” Yuriko questioned. “Most people would be vomiting from consuming all that sugar.”

Kanra turned her head to face Yuriko, swallowing the cupcake in her mouth already having eaten close to half of the desserts Criss had sent her.

“It's so good tho besides eating all this cake is a good way for me to get all my calories in.”

“Kanra, if it wasn't for the fact that you need to consume 10x more calories than the average person, I'd worry about you'd become the walking poster for becoming a type 2 diabetic.”

“Ah, but you don't have to.” Kanra gleefully smiled, shoving another cupcake in her mouth.

“Alright enough.” Yuriko walked over and lifted the rest of the cupcakes out of Kanra's reach. “You need to consume something that isn't just a whole bunch of sugar.”

“Come on, Yuriko-san, let me finish them!” Kanra begged, reaching out and failing to grab the plate from her much taller adoptive mother's hand.

“No means no, Kanra.”

"I see this girl on campus from time to time. She's the woman who drew that manga everyone's going crazy about. Red of the Ambitious, I think its called. I gave it a quick look through once. It was alright, but it's kinda like every other manga out there these days. A guy or girl transported into another world and winds up becoming the hero, developing relationships with everyone. I'm not knocking it or anything, but it wouldn't kill artists to come up with something new.

"Besides that, I've been hearing rumors about this girl. About how she's secretly affiliated with Chuohku. I don't pay much attention to rumors, but... I don't know. She seems too nice a person to work for an organization like that. But then again, isn't it the least person you always expect that always turns out to be the one?"

Criss Hiromi

Saji gives a small chuckle to Criss's photo. "Criss always makes me laugh when I see her, which isn't very often. She rarely attends class, and the few times I do see her, she's usually running to and from one place to the next. Honestly, it makes me a bit miffed that despite the fact that she cuts class as much as I do, her grades are still better than mine. But I suppose she does some studying whenever she goes on those 'ghost hunts' she goes on. Me, between school and work, I don't really have much time to look after my notes. As long as I get the bare minimum, I'm good."

Nikki Yoshie

"I don't really know much about Nikki personally. Even when she was in school, she was always closed off from everyone. Not that I can talk since I was pretty much the same way, and still am. All I care about is doing my work and getting out of this place as quickly as I can. Anything else is extra. Besides that, I hear she's making a killing on the E-gaming scene. Video games don't really do much for me, though. I like to spend my time out doing stuff. Playing a virtual character in a virtual reality seems an... escape to me. ...And in case you wondering, the irony of what I just said isn't lost me."

Otaku Corps

"'Otaku Corps'? Seems a little... childlike, don't you think? Of course, since they are situated in Akihabara, which is pretty much 'Anime Central' here in Japan, I guess the name does have some sort of semblance. But besides that, I don't really know if these guys will go far. They've been here for a while, but haven't done much. And Keiko... I don't know if she is a Chuohku member. If so, then I'm sorry, but that makes her an enemy. Anyone who has something to do with that place, I want little to do with."

Thank you to all who participated in this tournament. I know this wasn't exactly a good one for all involved, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. While it may seem that one team was favored over another, I assure, I had little to do with the voting process. Next time, however, I'll find another way to make the votes for secretive so that bias and favoritism do not take place. Again, I appreciate everyone who participated and I look forward to seeing you all again for it next year.

“Keiko Yumi, also known by the MC name Mangaka. Subject is a popular manga artist and currently studying to be a nurse. She despises her mother Subject Aika Yumi of Minato so much that she formed a team to fight and humiliate her. The foolish girl doesn't even realize that Chuohku is just using her for their own gain. Data concludes she is not much of a threat but precautions should be taken against her rap ability.”

Criss Hiromi

“Criss Hiromi, also known by the MC name Paradox. Subject is a famous YouTuber whose videos primarily revolve around the paranormal. She travels all over Japan to investigate the supernatural for her channel. Reika and Sakura tell me she even came to Shizuoka to investigate the rumors surrounding my building. They told her to leave the area as it was private property. What a shame I would have personally shown her why my building has a reputation for being haunted. Data concludes she is not much of a threat but precautions should be taken against her rap ability.”

Nikki Yoshie

“Nikki Yoshie, also known by the MC name 1-Up. Subject is a famous E-Gamer known for being one of the best players in Japan. Many people including her own teammates have described her as a ‘Kuudere’. Video games are something that I don't partially have an interest in so nothing about her particularly stands out to me besides her knowledge of how to work her way around a computer. Data concludes she is not much of a threat but precautions should be taken against her rap ability.”   

Otaku Corps

“Akihabara Division’s Otaku Corps is not much of a threat to us. Perhaps against another team, they would have a better chance of victory but against us? A team of hardened killers? Well, I'm afraid they won't find much mercy from us. Data concludes that this division is not much of a threat by should be approached with caution in no part due to their rap abilities.”

"Ah, so this is Aika's wayward daughter that she's told me so much about. Looking at her now, I can see how she and Aika are so similar. She's literally the spitting image of her mother. ...It's for that reason that I'm so upset and disappointed in her. Aika's told me all about the problems that she and her have. And while I won't deny that Aika does share some of the blame, you're not entirely guiltless in this either, child."

"Aika has told me that she's tried to talk to you numerous times in the past, either to apologize or to make up for her shortcomings. But what do you do instead? You simply brush her off and refuse to even give her the time of day because you feel she can never be forgiven or redeemed. And to make matters worse, you even went so far as to join Chuohku, all to get away from the woman who gave birth to you."

"I understand you may feel like your mother has committed some unforgivable sin or crime. But in the big picture child, she's done nothing of the sort. Like I stated, she does share some of the blame, but so do you. I know I'm not entirely the best person to speak about relationships with mothers. After all, my relationship with my own is terrible. But the difference between mine and yours, is that at least your mother is allowing you to live out your life the way you want, and isn't forcing her beliefs or opinions on you."

"So forgive me for saying this, but you seriously need to get over being angry, because you have no reason, whatsoever, to be. Your mother did the best she could with the best resources she had available. And for you to despise her and not even try to communicate with her because of that is inexcusable. I hope and pray you realize that before it's too late."

Criss Hiromi

"Zakari's told me about this young child. Apparently, she's a... 'paranormal investigator'? I take it that means she goes diving into abandoned ruins and places searching for ghosts? He's even shown me some of her videos on YouTube. ...While I don't fault her enthusiasm or her love for exploration, I sincerely hope she's taking care of herself. Take it from me, most people don't appreciate you going into places that are 'abandoned'. Why? Because they prefer it to stay that way, less someone comes poking around."

Nikki Yoshie

"Kai and Zakari know more about this young girl than me. All I know about her is that she's apparently one of the most popular and talented video game players in the world. I sadly have no interest in them, but I know Zakari does."

Otaku Corps

"Like my husband mentioned, this is the second Akihabara team, after Pixel Syndicate. I forget which team came first, but both represent Akihabara rather well. I know that sooner or later, the two of them will have a battle to see who will be the team to represent their city. ...But as it stands right now, my vote goes to Pixel Syndicate. Nothing against these young women, but... I have a deep lack of respect for Keiko and her ways. Unless she agrees to make peace with Aika, then I want nothing to do with her and her team. I'm sorry to her teammates, but my vote goes to Pixel Syndicate."
