Just got Rune Factory 3 Special and man, I forgot just how pretty the old RF games are. I love Rune Factory 5, but sometimes the overworld/buildings/dungeons are just… bland. Devoid of character. So much stuff is just copy-pasted assets to fill in space, whereas RF1-4 all have this vibrancy and detail I really missed. If the clock wasn’t ticking so fast, I could just wander and stare at the flowers all day.

Thinking more about potential crossovers between RF5 and RF3 since I’ve started playing the remake, and a thought that’s made me sad is that pretty much all of the humans would either be dead or super old. Like, Daria will still be around, and Gaius probably the Univir and Zaid, but I don’t think any of them except Daria would go explore the world. Considering Margaret is her sister and she is in RF5, it’s even more likely to see her pop up.

On the flip side, I could have Lucas just… show up in town. The man’s been around since forever, basically, so it’s easy to imagine him visiting at least as a tourist. More likely, though, he’d go to the Univir to document what remains of their civilization. A project of that scope would require at least a couple months, if not years, considering how easily he gets sidetracked.

I can’t help but wonder, too, how the monster folk and were-animals might be related. I’ve already been considering the Guardians in RF4 to be a type of artificial were-animal (because Misasagi has a monster form just like the rest of them), so they could be cousins as far as races are considered. Mermaids like Pia probably are another branch of monster-like races, considering her similarity to monster sirens.

Some writing and life updates

I’ve posted up through Chapter 10 of Who Remembers a God on AO3; Chapter 11 is going up on Monday (assuming I don’t forget)

Finished writing the final battle of Atohl’s End, finally bringing me to the closing of Act I.

I have Big Plans for Act II, mainly being that I’m diverging heavily from RF5’s canon plot going forward. I hope y’all enjoy it 😅

I’m moving into my new apartment this Thursday, the 1st, which means I have to finish packing almost everything by Monday evening (I’m working Tues/Wed). If the update for WRaG is late, this is why.

Current landlord Karen still hasn’t found new fucking tenants despite saying she was “in the process of approving” some weeks ago

I’ve been enjoying totk during my breaks. Just finished the Rito segment, and I’m slowly working my way up to the Gorons now.

Playing totk made me miss my characters from Not My Namesake, and I reread parts of it — if I had known even half of what ended up happening to the kingdom, I probably would have changed some things. As it stands, I think NMN still stands pretty well on its own.

This does make finishing its sequel harder, though, because I want to include all of the new stuff. But that would contradict my own canon. So… I might just handwave it, or make a note explaining what changes I would have made or added, but I’m NOT going to try revising NMN itself. There’s no point to retread old paths solely to make it perfectly canon compliant again.

Lesson learned — don’t get an apartment that says no pets and expect your landlord to be reasonable when she allows an ESA as an exception.

Apropos to nothing in particular, one of the simplest safe care things I did for myself was purchase a cheap electric heating pad to place at the end of my bed and warm my perpetually cold feet.

I’m sure it’ll eventually come in handy for its intended use (warming sore muscles), but it’s the perfect size and better for my needs than a whole heated blanket.
