I haven't touch the arc properly yet but something tells me the girl, who I think is Scarlet (?), is everything you ever headcanon the DexHolder girl

Oh yeah. That was a thing. I forgot that that happened. Maybe I should take a look at all the new Pokemon to see what's what. ... Or did I do that already? Or was that Sword/Shield? Hmm...

The girl is Scarlet? Sasha- Ahem. So the first game goes to the girl. That's new. So the boy doesn't get the shortened name of Scar. Aww. I remember making some Goda Ryuji references back when the games were announced. I remember the male player character looking like a school boy. The dude on the cover with that sh*t smirk doesn't look nearly as innocent. The Innocent Lad has become a Sophisticated Lad, it seems... The hell's with that crown and cape?

I assume the two characters on that image are the two new Dex Holders. I can't even tell if they're the new characters or are just NPCs. ... That's a glare that surpasses even Moon. Hehehe. ... So the one with the purple eyes didn't get the name Violet? Meh. Whatever. I stopped caring what the actual manga did even before Sword and Shield.

Is that girl playing with string? Hmm... I used to do that back in 1999, but that requires two people. My grandmother showed me how. Ah, the memories...

Everything I ever headcanon? Hmm... so are you saying that there's a chance that this new girl could surpass Platinum as my favorite Dex Holder? Or at least surpass Y and Moon? Interesting.

So new Pokemon news just dropped and my first thought is to think about how this affects Pokespe (as it always is lol). Namely the 3 confirmed story pathways:

-Path to Championship Rank (fighting the 8 gyms and then passing the “Champion Assessment”--the equivalent to the E4 + Champion battles)

-Path of Legends/Searching for Herba Mystica (Hunting for herbs by fighting Titan Pokemon along the way. Pokemon has realized people like BIG mons. Sounds like this path is how you can get legends & mysticals based on the title)

-Beating up the evil team, which is now the school bullies an underaged biker gang. (Team Star is close enough to Team Skull and Team Yell that there’s bound to be a true villain, that will likely be accessed in this path.)

So, there’s def going to be a dexholder specializing in cooking right? The closest we have is Dia--who just likes eating--and Moon who makes medicine. The evil team path doesn’t imply a specialty in the same way, nor the gym path.

What I am most interested, however, in is the official art for each of these routes.

This is kinda long so TLDR: using the official art, I predict the starters and story paths will be distributed as the following in Pokespe: Scarlet (male dexholder) with Sprigatito and the Path of Legends, Violet (female dexholder) with Quaxly and beating up the evil team, Nemona (rival) with Fuecoco and the gym challenge. But this is also fuelled by a fair chunk of COPIUM.

For starters, it’s interesting the male player is the Violet uniform and female player is the Scarlet uniform considering the male player usually corresponds to the first version in the title, and the female the second. EDIT: Their confirmed canon names don’t seem to favour one version over the other (Juliana and Florian). And funnily enough, the trailer that reveals them has Juliana represented as Scarlet and Florian represented as Violet as well.

And look at sprigatito XD

But what I noticed is that each official art has a starter assigned to it. You could argue that. The. Paths. Have. “Canon”. Starters.

And...they make sense? Sprigatito is a grass type and in the path where you hunt for herbs (plants) and fights a rock type. Quaxly’s (the water type) hair is often chalked up to sailor hat, but it also resembles a pompadour. In Japanese pop culture, that’s the stereotypical hairstyle for gang members/biker gangs/yakuza. Quaxly is in the path where you fight a biker gang. A biker gang who’s leader uses fire type pokemon. Fuecoco is a little less clear, though it may be worth noting the 2 gym leaders currently revealed are weak to fire (ice and grass).

People have theorized that with 3 different story paths, a good approach for the Spe adaptation would be for spe!Nemona to follow the gym leader path and spe!Scarlet and spe!Violet take one path each. Pokespe also follows a (fairly) consistent pattern in assigning starters to each character (this pattern was only broken recently in SWSH with the male dexholder having Grookey instead of Sobble), having shifted between:

male - grass, rival - fire, female - water

male - fire, rival - water, female - grass

male - water, rival - grass, female - fire

Following this assumption, can we guess what path and what starter each of the three will have? The standard distribution this chapter would be:

male - grass, rival - fire, female - water

The rival (spe!Nemona) has fire, the same in the gym leader path.

So...that means spe!Scarlet would have grass and go herb hunting and spe!Violet would have water and kick the evil team’s ass? I really hope.

This was always going to be a bit awkward for SV since the chapter before SWSH broke the starter pattern. Meaning the male dexholder would have the grass starter twice in a row. Also the evil team plotline is probably where the bulk of the “story” is. It’s where the main conflict/world ending plot would stem from, and Pokespe has historically favoured its male dexholders over female dexholders when it comes to focus and presence in the final fight with the villain. But remember how I pointed out the female player keeps getting depicted as Scarlet. Could? Could the female dexholder take centre stage this arc? GF seems all for it? They might throw us for a loop and make the female Scarlet and male Violet but I’d take it 🙏

This assumes that the female Dexholder for the SV arc will be named Violet, which I hope will be true. The names for the SwSh Dexholders are not my favorites (especially in the Viz version), so I'm hoping the male Dexholder is named Scarlet and the female one is named Violet.

IF we get a Dexholder Violet, then we're really close to having a Dexholder for every Link, like you said! But when I read "Pokémon Shadow Version", my brain thought of this:

It's funny because Giratina isn't even the Shadow Pokémon; Gengar is. Gengar for boxart mascot confirmed?

Violet is the blonde guy with the crown tho, Scarlet is the girl (she's also the first female dexholder who is named after the first version of the game rather than the second or third version of the game like the other female dexholders).

Oh! Neat! Weird about the eye color thing tho. :p I would think that since we're going back to colors that they would continue that little tradition. Ah well! I just hope that the SV arc is a good one! Scarlet sounds like a delight! Maybe I'll even bother to finish Violet myself lol
