I love you goofy looking aarakocra, dragonborn and tabaxi. I love you hiring bridgerton guy just to be hot and untouchable and having his first major scene staged so that one tiddy is always artfully exposed. I love you well choreographed fight scenes and a beautifully chaotic representation of six seconds of combat. I love you compelling plot point of attunement requiring a successful role with your spellcasting modifier. I love you solving puzzles by shoving round p(ainting)egs into square holes. I love you forcing Justice Smith to do a British accent for no reason. I love you level 20 NPCs who can’t help the party against the big bad for ambiguous reasons. I love you bigby’s hand slap fights. I love you Nat 20s on potato attacks. I love you owlbears, mimics and gelatinous cubes. I love you dragons, I love you dungeons. I love you dnd movies that love dnd.

When we finished watching honor among thieves, I turned to my friends and said that I really enjoyed it, and that it was better than the old dungeons and dragons movie.
One friend turned to me and said “they were in the movie you know? In the tournament as a cameo!”
I looked at him very confused because I did not remember this lot being a team in the games but guessed I must have missed them.

Spoilers but imo the one thing the DnD movie got more right than anything else is how the death of the main funny character is always a complete gut-punch that leaves you sobbing like a fucking baby.
Like they give us a barbarian named Holga Kilgore who's introductory scene is her beating the shit out of a guy for interrupting her potato time and when she died I cried so hard I could barely see the screen. 100/10. Peak DnD. No notes at all.

I watched Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves a second time and guess what.
First time? Loved the movie.
Second time, however? LOVED IT EVEN MORE.
After thinking about it for a bit I realized that the first time I watched it I spent the whole movie bracing for Edgin and Holga to inevitably fall in love because... well, that's what always happens. And then they didn't. So, when I rewatched the movie, since I wasn't unconsciously bracing myself for a forced romance plot I enjoyed everything so much more??

Someone (not me) should write a fic where Xenk keeps justifying to himself why he's tagging along on Edgin's adventures. He justifies it with things like Holga just came back from the dead or Doric is busy and they need a healer along or he's been where they're going and he's the best person around to guide them, but really he's slowly falling in love with them. And I really do mean them. Edgin is nice and all, but the family is what he's falling in love with. And maybe, at the end, he and Ed can get together, but the important thing is that he's family.

nothing will ever be funnier than karlach's infernal engine being one of the most obvious, immediately fixable problems in dungeons and dragons due to the existence of a quadrillion different ways to resurrect people while also simultaneously completely healing their bodies, to the point where the entire plot of the dungeons and dragons movie that came out literal months before the game, set during the same year as the game, is about a dude searching for one of the aforementioned methods and using it to successfully resurrect a giant ripped barbarian chick
the best part about all of this is if you try to follow this logic in game and just kill karlach and then revive her when you first meet her, it will literally work and complete wyll's quest, and no one bothers karlach for the rest of the game, because she died and it technically fixed everything

How Old Is Xenk Yendar?
hello, so I don’t think I was paying that close attention to the timeline but
- Holga says the Elk Tribe battle with the dragon cultists was a hundred years ago - BUT the last of the elks to see Xenk before handing over the helm sees him as a grown adult IN HIS CURRENT ARMOR - So I just sort of guessed that maybe he was an elf/half-elf but we have Simon and a few of the wood elves (very briefly) for comparison and Xenk doesn’t have pointy ears at all, the only unusual thing abt him is the rune on his forehead. - HOWEVER we do see with the Theyan assassins in the Underdark that they still look entirely human (they’re just goth, just some goth fellas on a mission) while being undead - The line is “It is no simple feat to kill that which is already dead” before the assassins get back up - Conclusion:
the big freaky death cloud only makes you a mindless zombie if you’re engulfed in it, otherwise exposure makes you some sort of revenant.  Therefore Xenk may actually be undead.  Maybe not on the same level/in the same way as the assassins considering he’s definitely aged.  But this has some juicy implications for being undead and how it interacts with paladin features

My favourite scene had to be when they were all trapped with a fat ass dragon trying to kill them as water started to fill up the cave at a dangerous rate and Edgin was desperately trying to plan their escape, and as this was happening Xenk was just in the back chilling and turned on by Edgin LMFAOOO

Like the stare? the smirk? the smile? He has a competency kink please. This man was not at all bothered by Themberchaud or drowning to death because he knew he was safe with a certain 'harper shaking off his slumber' with him, if you rewatch this scene he's just heart eyeing him the entire time in the background, and that's why it's my favourite scene

Not to go on and on about how much I adore the DnD movie BUT it was also so fantastic to see such ridiculous plans in action? Like I've seen so many campaigns feature shenanigans of the highest order, like real loony tunes meets rube goldberg machine level nonsense, and so seeing Holga pry up a loose flagstone to use as a weapon in a last-ditch effort not to die and the entire scene where they use tree sap, a portal staff, and a painting to break into the treasure carriage was SO beautiful like that's the EXACT sort of plan that comes up when you give four people with assorted skills and random magical items a few minutes to figure something out and it's FANTASTIC.
