Hilda had come to po town to visit them. Ree is grateful for it, though they’d never admit it — they’ve been going stir crazy lately, itching to get out, to go somewhere.

This is one of those rare instances where the clubroom is completely empty, save for Lacey and the academy’s most honored guest, the Champion of Unova herself. Not even a certain lazy Dragon Elite in sight! It was, however, occupied earlier in the day, and evidently so ( ‘cause the place did not look presentable when they first walked in ).

All to Lacey’s dismay, of course. Hilda has swung by before, so she should know it isn’t always like this! Bags of chips laying around opened and half-finished ; papers haphazardly strewn all across the table ; sweaters and uniforms mindlessly left on the couch and even the floor . . . Embarrassing. If she had received ample warning of Hilda’s visit, she would’ve gone in the morning to tidy up the whole room. Why didn’t she hear a single peep from the Director. Oh duh, he forgot. FORGOT THE CHAMPION WAS VISITING?!

Good thing nobody’s here to fume over Lacey touching their stuff ( ❝ their fault that I have to, ❞ she mutters under her breath ).

And good thing no-one but Hilda gets to tease her over her reaction to the sudden mention of an internship —- how her head instantly snaps up from the papers she’s organizing, eyes wide open, as big as saucers, looking like she can’t fully process what she just heard. Honestly though, she was also genuinely startled by the sound of Hilda’s palms hitting the table.

❝ A summer internship?! ❞ Lacey echoes excitedly. Sure, Hilda didn’t explicitly offer her one yet —- just asked for her thoughts is all —- but why would she spring the topic on her right here, right now, if she didn’t have something in mind! ❝ Well, I would definitely be interested! And I’ll have all the time in the world for it, you know I will!! ❞

If Lacey’s voice isn’t enough to prove her enthusiasm, then the beaming smile she’s giving Hilda now should be . . . She was gonna take summer classes for the hell of it, like the overachieving, school-loving honor student she is, but y’know what. An internship with the League sounds so much better.

Playing w design ideas in picrew feat. Nicolette Quatrèfle, though they mostly go by Nocturne (pronoun preferences are she/they!)

Silently cut my one other Evelyn kid but now I'm bringing her back because I liked the idea of them existing still in the alt as another doublebattle kid and as that verse's Enid's foil. She's still gonna be Evelyn's kid as single mom in main though.

The vague base idea for her in both verses is that she has wise older sibling/mysterious traveling musician vibes. Free spirit going wherever the hell she wants. Pops up out of nowhere and peaces out just as suddenly. If you hear a harmonica out of the blue don't be scared that just means they're nearby.
