looking at the comments under the latest clip rn and there are a lot that are really cool
but some are just... eh
there are people saying that every victim of SA should decide for themselves how to deal with it, whether they want to go to the police etc.
and yes, that's true, but it also misses the point
because most victims are scared of going to the police, of what the police might say to them, of having to go through the traumatising events again, and then not even knowing that the abuser will get any consequences
but that's exactly the reason why we should show characters successfully reporting their abusers to the police, especially characters that are praised for "being strong" by their friends
we need to show young victims that going to the police can work and that it doesn't make the situation more traumatising
if we show a charcater not going to the police, even though they are "strong" and have the help of a big friend group, then victims will feel even less like going to the police, because if this strong character with lots of support can't do it, how could they?

I just realised that we started here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
how why did we end up at:
“You are so STRONG/BRAVE/COOL/… ! “, said by everyone?
It’s pretty obvious now, that the season’s big obstacle wasn’t Mailin’s performativ activism, because after these looks and comments she only got praise for it (except from her mum and shortly Zoe). It seems like the people who didn’t get her message were the problem, not Mailin’s delivery of it. Which is such a shallow take on the topic. They never really looked at her behaviour critically. I can’t wrap my head around why we had to end up here, when we started there.

For those who follow the show…
Do y’all think Druck is getting a third generation?
Because the way y’all have been dragging them..
Tumblr media
LMFAO, please don’t get me wrong!
The fandom has rightfully kept a foot on their necks for the past two seasons and it has been truly delightful to watch them get dragged.
But I’m wondering now if production is going to abandon the show bc “the PC PoLicE/SjW WOKIES! won’t shut up😡.”
It’s a shame for the show to end this way b/c S5 & S6 were so well done and S7 was a start despite its many flaws, but if this is the end… 🤷🏾‍♀️ farewell I guess.
As a side bar that’s loosely related…
Speaking as someone from the U.S., where we’ve been witnessing the political pendulum swing backwards toward conservatism for the past five years, (but it has been truly dark past few months with the roll back on trans and reproductive rights😢), it is a bit worrying to think about the impact this political climate can have on media. Entertainment is seemingly a place where more liberal ideas thrive, but media is also a form of social programming. Our political and social climate will always influence our media, for better or worse.
It’s interesting, then, to consider how Druck’s trajectory in its second generation, but S8 especially, has almost embodied the current regression toward conservatism with some slutshaming/victim blaming attitudes being expressed and the POC characters being sidelined. It makes me curious to see what a third generation would look like, should they choose to do one at all.
I don’t know if anyone else has been feeling/witnessing this shift in their own country’s politics/social climate and I would love to hear any Germans to chime in and express their thoughts on the matter. Do you think any shift or trends in German politics/social attitudes/etc is partially responsible for S8 turning out the way it did? What does everyone else think?
Like another account said on here, we should already be past the kind of conversations/debates that we’re having. Past the kind of storylines and ideas presented in Druck S8. This sort of regression is so jarring b/c I had really thought we’ve moved past this. But alas, here we are. 😪
To wrap this up on a positive note, I’m happy that Druck’s 2nd gen introduced us to such a diverse and talented group of young actors ❤️ I hope for nothing but the best for them in their future endeavors. A round of applause for all their hard work! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.

sooo, under the last clip (the mailin getting off after her controller vibrated for some reason one) i wrote a comment which i guess i'll translate now
i don't really like this season, i enjoyed the first 3 episodes and was exited for the further developments.
but, there weren't any developments, not really. like, yes, if you enjoy mastturbating, go for it, but it's not like you have to.
that masturbating is portrayed as something that's always positive, feels weird to me
for me, druck has always been a series, that tells new stories and the "masturbating can be nice"-story, we just know that story already.
this season would have been the perfect opportunity to tell something new.
at first i thought, this season would be aroace rep, which i was really exited about. then it was clear that mailin was into finn (romantically). and yes, she could theoretically still be on the aro spectrum, but it was a way to little topic, for it to be relevant.
then i had hopes for mailin being ace, but if she actually turns out being ace, it wouldn't feel like good rep. i know that asexuality is a spectrum and asexual people have different relations to sex or masturbating etc.
but designing asexual representation in a way that best fits allonormative standards? doesn't feel right to me. and if mailin would come to the conclusion that she is, in fact, ace, it would happen in the last episode. asexuality would only be a topic in one out of ten episodes. that's not a lot.
and if she's not ace, this whole season feels like a missed opportunity. then we would have followed a white, cishet, allo, young woman, who is also quite rich, for ten weeks. a woman who doesn't even acknowledge her privilege, who doesn't reflect on her own mistakes (she still thinks you can destroy books because you feel like it), who isn't good at communicating (like not being in contact with finn after small problems, or drunkenly telling him a week later that the sex was not the best idea) even though she said (in previous seasons) that she was taught to be open about feelings etc. when she had a fight with ava. and the problems that she actually has (ben, but that's it) are handled weirdly. it was only said once or twice that ben was the problem, that it was simply wrong of him to send mailin's nude (that he only got in the first place because he coerced her after she said no). instead the whole screentime was devoted to mailin and zoe fighting and finn being angry about mailin for sending the nude (that was before your relationship?! i don't think you have any right to dictate what mailin should or shouldn't do, and i honestly don't think it fits finns character to react that way).
there've been a lot of storylines, but none of them had a real ending (i wanna know who snitched on mailin and zoe, but there's a week left, so i still have hopes), none were told well (at least that's what it feels like to me), it feels like they just ignore old seasons (isi being non-binary and using all pronouns, what ava and fatou talk about in the abi prank, ava who has always promoted interscetional feminism and everything connected to it is now hyping mailin up even after mailin acts against what ava stands for)
what annoys me the most is that we have lots of cool characters in this show, whose stories haven't been told (in the series but also in mainstream media) who just get ignored

I think Finn asking for Mailin’s consent doesn’t do it for me, here. He’s had a girlfriend for a long time so let’s assume he’s much more experienced than Mailin. He knows she felt insecure about his feelings towards her and that’s why she sent the nude pic to Ben, he knew Mailin was very inexperienced, they hadn’t even kissed, they didn’t even talk through how she was feeling about the whole nude thing. He shouldn’t have agreed to have sex, shouldn’t have thought it was a good idea when Mailin was clearly mentally and emotionally fragile. It felt really gross to me that he seemed to ignore all this just to have sex.
Yeah, I get where you're coming from. Watching this "from the outside" gave me and my bf a very weird feeling as well. She very clearly felt uncomfortable while having sex. But also, she did start it and she was the one that asked for the condom and started to immediately undress him. So yeah, could he have known that this wasn't the right time? Yeah. But right before they did it Mailin expressed her fear that he might not like her. He might have thought that rejecting sex (while she was clearly initiating it) would make her feel even more insecure. So I really did take more offense to the fact that he went for penetration after 0 foreplay.
This (like basically everything this season) could've been handled much better. Here is how I would've imagined it:
Let's say their goals for this clip were:
- Mailin and Finn get back together
- They share their first intimate moments
- Mailin feels uncomfortable about sex
I would keep the beginning pretty much the same. Finn apologizes for his behavior, Mailin gives her explanation and Finn sais something like "It's okay, you don't have to explain yourself. I realized that Ben is the asshole in this situation". After that they can have that pillow fight and their kiss (I think that was pretty sweet). Then they start to slowly undress EACHOTHER, preferably Mailin would take off her own shirt (to show that this isn't Finn pushing it onto her). This is where it gets important: they do NOT start having penetrative sex immediately. We'd have a sweet montage of them touching eachother, cozy good vibes (think Fatou and Kieu Mys sex scene). After making out, asking for consent and all that either one of them would try to take it further. At this point I would think it would be better to imply that Finn/Mailin would want to perform oral sex not penetrative sex. And then while getting closer to that situation (maybe Finn unbuttoning her pants) Mailin would actually say "Sorry, I don't think I want to do this yet/right now. Can we just cuddle/make out?". Finn would obviously be very understanding of this and they just continue to "innocently" fool around. And that's that.
I'm not a screenwriter by any means and I thought of this from the top of my head. But I think the most important part that needed to be changed is the fact that we basically just saw Mailin pressuring herself to have penetrative sex after her experienced bf didn't take the time to prep her for it. It's extremely uncomfortable to see and they could've definitely sent the message differently. If anything this (once again) makes Finn look bad. While he did ask for verbal consent he didn't seem to really care that she physically looked uncomfortable.
Edit: Also shout-out to my bf that said: Poor girl, first her first kiss was shitty and now her first time was shitty as well.
