Lynn, 67, is a resident of Luzerne County, a largely white, working-class, political bellwether that Barack Obama won twice, but which swung hard for Trump in 2016. Lynn is being charged with voter fraud and forgery for faking his deceased mother’s signature on the absentee ballot request form.

In a private Facebook group called the Pittsburgh Area Police Breakroom, many current and retired officers spent the year criticizing chiefs who took a knee or officers who marched with Black Lives Matter protesters, whom they called “terrorists” or “thugs.” They made transphobic posts and bullied members who supported anti-police brutality protesters or Joe Biden in a forum billed as a place officers can “decompress, rant, share ideas.”

Got into my first Trump-fueled political argument with my mother. Mark the date: January 25th, 5 days into his presidency. She doesn’t understand why I can’t just “respect her position”, when that position is threatening my civil rights, and those of millions of other people in this country.

“Who’s civil rights?” she asked. “LGBT people,” I said. “But you’re not an LGBT person!” “I’m bisexual, what do you think the B stands for, bacon????” “You’re just being dramatic. We’re not going to talk about this anymore.”

She did give me her email address though, so guess who’s getting inundated with articles on Trump’s fuckery from credible news sources
