Hey Elanor, Do you have a fave new pokemon? Apologies if you've answered that already and I missed it [gestures to...everything]. I quite enjoy Tinkaton and all of the new very good dogs.

I love Tinkaton! Sometimes I accidentally run into a wild Pokémon, and then Tinkaton comes out to fight, and the hammer is so big I literally can't see what I'm fighting, and the best part is that it doesn't matter because I can just pull an Yzma and go SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER

I mean honestly there's actually not a single new Pokémon or added evolution that I don't like in this game. This has never happened to me before. They've absolutely smashed it out of the park. Like, longtime followers of this blog know that I hate Dunsparse passionately, second worst Pokémon ever made, right, but DUDUNSPARSE??! They just add another segment?? Incredibly charming and stupid I love it. What a brilliant evolution. You know another I hate? Quagsire, absolutely bitchless design, but CLODSIRE! Sublime. So charming and chunky and lovely. The artists have done SO WELL. Annihilape might as well be called "I bet you never thought you'd give a shit about Primeape"

Love that this generation's cute Electric Pika-clone is also a hefty Fighting type. I adore Tandemaus/Maushold. I love my Ceruledge. I both Meowscarada and Skeledirge. I love Klawf.

And most of all, I loved my Return of the King moment when I finally, FINALLY got to have the best Pokémon of all time back, aka Sawsbuck. We lost it to Dexit, but its visa has come through T_T

Anyway I have a stupid number of thoughts on this game so Imma stop there but love love love

Larry headcanons because I love him

He has an ex wife and a kid, I don’t know who I want the kid to be yet. Maybe Poppy. I like the idea of his kid being completely bizarre.

Rika is not his biological kid but that’s still his kid, you get me?

The elite four is just a weird found family in which Hassel and Larry co-parent the other two.

Larry and Hassel are bros and Larry is the one who convinced him to ask out Brassius

Larry fuckin loves his stupid business man persona. He thinks it’s the funniest thing anyone has ever done.

There’s an annual gym leader and elite four popularity contest and while Larry doesn’t ALWAYS win, he is usually top 3.

Iono has a completely unexplained grudge against Larry and the leading theory is she’s jealous of how popular he is when he doesn’t realky do anything to earn it. She works her ass off for her position and to her it looks like he’s just showing up and getting popular for no reason.

His female Staraptor was his first Pokémon which he befriended as a child when he rescued it injured in the edge of town, and she is the mother of his male Staraptor.

However his favorite species of Pokémon is Dudunsparse. He thinks it’s the funniest Pokémon ever, as well as being cute.

His favorite type is Normal because they’re versatile and unpredictable. They often have wide move pools and few weaknesses (and in Paldea with it’s scary ass ghost types, they’re invaluable)

Pokémon I think should get megas in Z-A

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: flygon

Out of left field but when I played X I had a grumpig and I think a grumpig mega could be fun and funky

Another starter trio? Maybe the kalos starters or the johto ones?

Not that legendary pokemon really NEED more megas but I think a mega for Keldeo could be neat considering the rest of the swords got paradox mons

Ninjask/Shedinja. I want them to get the Iron Valiant treatment of fusing both of their designs in unexpected ways

Ariados???? Please???? I’m begging you someone make my beloved Ariados half decent????

And also Any pokemon released after megas left the mainline games would be AMAZING but specifically:

Dudunsparse. Make it EVEN LONGER or maybe like a hydra thing????? And this may be controversial but I’d rather it gain ground type than dragon cause it already gets good ground moves. (Not that it needs to be more powerful but it makes more sense)

Galarian rapidash NEEDS huge rainbow wings and a halo

It’s copium but maybe spidops could get a less ugly design if it got a mega… and like idk a secondary typing??? Fairy??? And an effect-spore type ability that makes the enemy sleep on contact (spinning thread + fairly tale = sleeping beauty)

(Tl:dr justice for bug type pokemon please and everything else just make it funny)

Gym leader Iruka’s test is the easiest. Of all the gym leaders he’s the first one we’re expected to face so he made a gym test fitting for new trainers.

All I had to do was run around finding some eevee in town, and they were such cute pokemon. One tried to climb up my back but fell down half way up. Feeling bad for it I decided to pick it up and place it on my shoulder where it stayed right up to the moment we reached the gym.

The battle was tougher than I expected. With a team of all normal Pokemon I hadn’t held out too much hope for a challenge, but Gym leader Iruka proved me wrong.

I only barely beat his Dudunsparse, and his Eevee proved to be speedy and strong.

At the end of the day I walked out with a gym badge, but not without questioning my skills a little more than I had before.

What makes Larry all the more fascinating is the normal type just became significantly more important as it’s the only type that can stop a Houndstone sweep.

They made a Pokémon with a move that can reach 300 power and only normal type Pokémon can’t be hit by it.

Like idk maybe it’s just cause I was running a status based team with a houndstone as my backup strategy if I lose a few mons in a fight (Buddy never comes out unless I have 3 mons down, he only appeared once in the entire elite four and it was in the final fight)

But Larry was HORRIFYINGLY tough in every fight. His strategy is the exact counter to my own. Normal types + facade. The first time I challenged the medal I gym was the only battle I lost during my entire run and I was underleveled for half the gyms the entire time. I could always rely on a toxic stall with my clodsire, nuzzle on my Pawmot to slow my opponents and give me the opening I needed to start a sweep, or even a few very lucky freezes with my floatzel’a ice fang. And if those failed Buddy was in the back waiting to pick up the slack. Hell during my fight with Grusha I let Pokémon faint on purpose to set Buddy up to sweep cause I didn’t have much to go against ice types!

But up against a super fast bird who gets stronger when it has a status condition?

(And that goddamn dudunsparse somehow reading me switching to a ghost type when I was expecting a normal type move and ONESHOTTING BUDDY WITH DRILL RUN)

That man is too strong.
