Senator Orrin Hatch just called Dr. Christine Blasey Ford an 'attractive witness'

Ugggggghhhhhhh.

Senator Orrin Hatch, the 84-year-old Republican from Utah, told a group of reporters that Christine Blasey Ford is an "attractive witness" during a break in her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

In a recording published by McClatchy DC, a reporter in the gaggle asks Hatch, "Have you found Dr. Ford credible?" 

"It's too early to say," Hatch replies. "I don't think she's uncredible. I think she's an attractive, good witness." 

When asked what he meant by attractive, Hatch clarified with: "In other words, she's pleasing." 

According to McClatchy reporter Kate Irby, fellow female reporters were taken aback by his statement. 

Hatch just called Ford an “attractive witness.” Asked to elaborate what he meant, he said “she’s pleasing.”

Hatch's communications director, Matt Whitlock, has been trying to do some damage control by responding to tweets about the incident with the same statement:

Regardless of Whitlock's clarification, Twitter users were horrified that a senator would use "attractive" to refer to a witness.

Caracas, 14 dic (EFE).- La atleta Yulimar Rojas y el beisbolista de los Astros de Houston José Altuve coronaron hoy su fantástico 2017 con el premio al Atleta del Año del Circulo de Periodistas Deportivos (CPD) de Venezuela, uno de los galardones más importantes del país. Rojas, que este año desbancó a la colombiana Caterine Ibargüen como reina del triple salto mundial y en noviembre fue elegida como la mejor atleta de 2017 por la Asociación de Comités Olímpicos Nacionales (ANOC), superó de forma holgada en la votación a la pertiguista Robeilys Peinado, tras colectar 102 de los 110 votos al primer lugar. En tanto, Altuve, ganador de la Serie Mundial y elegido como el Jugador Más Valioso de la Liga Americana y por el sindicato de peloteros del béisbol de los Estados Unidos, se alzó por votación unánime con el premio del CPD. Esta es, además, la segunda ocasión corrida en que la amateur y el profesional ganan el premio en sus respectivas categorías. Altuve también lo ganó en 2014. Este reconocimiento se ha entregado de forma ininterrumpida desde 1944 y el primer ganador fue el beisbolista Antonio Briñez. En 1998 se instauró la doble modalidad amateur/profesional, con los peloteros alzándose con 17 de 19 ediciones. EFE

Knowing Republican distaste for Obamacare includes its name, Tim Kaine is suggesting a rebranding that even the GOP could love: “Americare.”

“I thought it up over the weekend,” said Kaine at the start of a big week for out-of-luck Democrats and in-your-face Republicans.

The junior U.S. senator from Virginia — better known beyond its borders as the defeated Democratic nominee for vice president — is smack-dab in the middle of the early skirmish over repeal of Obamacare. He is a Democratic point man, proposing language to slow Republicans’ fast-track dismantling of the Affordable Care Act.

And as a member of three marquee committees — Armed Services, Foreign Relations and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions — Kaine also will have a say, if only fleeting, in the confirmation hearings, some accelerated; others not, on several of President-elect Donald Trump’s more controversial Cabinet selections.
