Darkness surrounded them, alongside a cold so deep it made his circuits ache and burn. There was nothing that showed any sense of direction and his scans came back too scrambled to be of any help. Rinzler reached out blindly, trying to find some way out of the darkness. Oh, water. He was in water. Great. No time to panic or wonder how he had gotten here, he needed to find which way was up before the seal on his helmet broke.
Think... look... there! The faintest beam of light, pulsing softly in the far distance. It seemed to be pulsing in a pattern, a line within it growing brighter before it disappeared away into the darkness. Logically, the pulse should be moving downwards so if Rinzler swam the opposite way they should reach the surface.
Not like they had any better options anyways. Rinzler began to kick and swim in the direction that was hopefully up. It was exhausting, and at some point he heard a sharp hiss. Some part of the seal on their helmet had gave way. Rinzler can feel the nip of freezing cold water at his neck as it began to make its way in. They try to kick faster, to frantically claw their way to the surface but it feels like trying to wade through a sea of grid bugs.
Finally, Rinzler breached the surface but a moment later a wave forced him back under. The startling force of it caused Rinzler to inadvertently inhale some of the water inside his helmet, and his vision blacked out. But what he thought may have finally killed him turned out to be a saving grace. Rinzler felt solid ground under him for a moment. The large wave must have pushed to land.
Using the last of his strength he dragged himself out of water, coughing from the liquid that had nearly choked him to death. It took several minutes for Rinzler to regain some semblance of clarity and several more frustrating minutes for the water to drain completely out of the helmet.
When they had finally stopped hacking up water and their limbs didn't feel like liquid the Enforcer shakily sat up to try and figure out where they were.
Large floating rocks hung in the air over the water with beams of bright white energy emerging down from them. Rolling waves lapped at their feet. Rinzler knew this place, it was the Sea of Simulation. Shit. He quickly scrambled away from the poisoned water. As if that would do any good with him having already choked on the it. Well, at least they had an explanation to why they felt even worse than usual.
Rinzler growled in frustrated anger. Now they were likely going to have to go through a decontamination process. And who knows how long he'd be out of commission for. Clu was going to be at the very least extremely disappointed, and at the worst enraged. But none of that would matter if Rinzler stayed here and derezzed on the beach. They reached for a baton at their hip, finding as they did so that both light jet and light cycle batons were missing. Well, at least they still had their discs and the communicator. It could be worse.
He unlatched the communicator and activated it. The interface was bizzare, none of the comm channels on it were even coming up as online or even unreachable. They just weren't there, like the signals never existed. Not even the grid wide emergency line. Well, he should be able to at least broadcast his own signal from it. Hopefully as he trekked to the city someone would pick up on it. Preferably an ally, but Rinzler could always just commandeer whatever form of transport any program stupid enough to attack them used.
They activated the signal transmitter on the communicator. It beeped softly, the light on the side turning green to show the signal was successfully transmitting. No time to wait, they better get moving now. With a sigh of frustration and a hiss of pain, Rinzler pushed himself to his feet and began walking towards the lights of the city in the distance.

Rinzler had been picking up on…something for most of the millicycle. He didn’t know what it was, just a little blip at the very edge of his radar, far enough away that he couldn’t get a read of what it was but it was close enough to catch his attention. He’d wanted to go investigate it far sooner but with the way he’d been assigned to follow at Clu’s heels it hadn’t been an option. By the time he was finally dismissed he’d been all but vibrating out of his shell to see what had been causing the disturbance, something he was sure the Admin had noticed and would be asking after soon but until then Rinzler was going to see what had been lurking in his peripheral all that time and driving him up the damn wall.
He was meant to stay nearby even after he’d been dismissed as was protocol but Rinzler knew Clu could tell when he came and went and he hadn’t stopped him so he was going to utilize the opportunity even though it meant he had to fly to the far outskirts of the city. It was odd that Clu hadn’t also noticed the anomaly but he could report on it once it was eliminated. As he drew closer Rinzler disengaged his lightjet to cross the final stretch on foot, using the code signature as a guide.
It occurred to him that tracking an unknown program notable enough to be registered by his threat assessment across the entire city while no one knew his current location was extremely stupid and so he sent a location marker to Clu before he continued on.
Once he was close enough he began picking up on a signal, but not one produced by a program which was odd as it wasn’t coming from any sort of device he could recognize either. It wasn’t being sent through any of the channels made to receive distress signals. What were they transmitting from and why? He supposed he’d soon find out.
The sight he was greeted with as he finally tracked down the source was the very last thing he expected to see. It was like looking in a mirror. A soaking wet mirror with an improperly sealed helmet. Rinzler didn’t know if it was the shock of seeing a duplicate or if his system really was that damaged but his threat assessment returned to its regular levels like he wasn’t currently staring at himself standing in the middle of the road leading into the city.
Rinzler’s first assumption was that it was a disguise but a quick scan showed that wasn’t the case as the program’s code aligned with his own. It wasn’t an exact copy, both in terms of render and coding but it was close enough to be completely impossible. How was he going to explain this to Clu? There were several long moments where nothing was said or done as Rinzler stared his copy down, his processor stuttering loudly before he finally spoke,
[Who are you?] It was sent as a ping, a flash of text across the other program’s vision.
Finally knocked out of his stupor Rinzler drew his disc to punctuate the inquiry though he didn’t approach. Not yet.
[How did you replicate my code?] They shouldn’t have access to his render let alone his code itself. Clu was the only program capable of that and he hadn’t sanctioned…whatever this was. A virus, maybe? Doesn't matter.
As he warily crept closer he saw the blackened pixelated residue from the Sea. He thought maybe it was an ISO but the scan would’ve revealed that. He amended his previous question,

Rinzler looks up from the pile of voxels at his feet, the bright light in the sky drawing his attention. It feels like a beacon, a call. He grabs the baton from his right hip and rezzes his lightcycle.
It doesn’t take long for them to reach the source of the light. A building shorter than the others in the city, with the sign FLYNN’S on the front of it above the doorway. He had been here before, back when the light of the sign was still on. Many riots had occurred here, programs believing in the return of a false god. Those who could not see Clu’s vision, or those who sought to destroy it.
Rinzler had made sure none of those programs would be so foolish again.
For a moment the enforcer swears he sees the sign flicker. It must be an illusion, the sign hasn’t been lit in hundreds of cycles.
Shaking their head, Rinzler derezzes his lightcycle and places the baton back onto his hip. As a precaution, Rinzler grabs his disc from his back but doesn’t activate or split it yet. They enter the building silently, careful not to step on any broken glass.
The soft hum of machinery leads the enforcer down a flight of stairs and into a hidden back room. He stops in the entryway, staring silently at the figure in the room.

She wasn’t sure what had brought her there, a nostalgic feeling, a bad night, whatever had led her to coming to the arcade she was beginning to regret. Alan held on to those keys for years… if he wasn’t going to go over there, someone should. Lora found her way to the basement and the sub electrical room he had made into a secret little lab. Flynn was a bit strange but… never like this.
She pressed… something, when she opened her eyes she was somewhere else entirely. It looked like the same dirty room if it were translated into a black and white film. Not a speck of dust anywhere. It smelt of burning plastic and wire, a hard artificial smell.
Lora coughed and hacked, ultimately resigning to cover her nose. Her thoughts ran a million miles a minute, she could feel her heart pounding her throat. Someone was watching her.
“Not trespassing!” She shouts, holding her hands above her head.
Suddenly she was a teenager again getting into trouble in some small nowhere town, instead of the grown woman now cowering in a basement.
“W-we own the property.”
Not a lie, like many things she and Alan took possession of the arcade following Flynn’s disappearance.
Lora looks up at the masked figure squinting carefully trying to make it out In the dark. It’s not Halloween, what’s the deal?

Based on the prompt SAFEGUARD: for one muse to save the other from being hit by a vehicle or from some other life-threatening event. (For Rinzler saving Clu)

The Enforcer is surprised to see the system administrator walking down the streets of the city. Though it's only a few blocks from where Clu lives, Rinzler can't remember ever seeing him just... taking a walk.
It's pure coincidence that he even happens upon Clu, usually Rinzler is in the Games or sent off on some mission for the Occupation. But they had been told to simply patrol the city, due to recent unrest.
It’s only because of this that Rinzler sees the unmanned truck veering off the road and directly at Clu.
They quickly descend from the outcropping of the building they were perched on, landing on the ground hard enough to make their legs hurt. However, the pain is minuscule compared to the absolute catastrophe there would be if the system administrator derezzed.
Rinzler sprints the short distance, tackling Clu over the barrier on the side of the road causing them to both roll down the long steep incline and into the area of the lower city.
He does his best to hold tight onto Clu and take as much of the damage as he can. Comforting themself with the thought that this is a better alternative than Clu being hit by the truck.
Finally they roll to stop, Rinzler quickly climbing off of Clu and backing away, stumbling and sitting down. The Enforcer is silent save for his heavy breathing. He debates between asking if the system administrator is alright or if he should immediately beg for forgiveness for touching him without permission.
In the end he just ends up silent, waiting.
Clu didn't see the truck. He saw one of its lights, sure, but he thought it was a lightcycle. Only when it got close did he see what it was.
And then something slammed into him, taking him over the barrier. He screamed as he realized they were going over. Yes, they. He realized as they went down that he could feel hands on him, meaning the thing that slammed into him was a program. And then there was the actual roll down the slope that left Clu laying on his back, winded and momentarily stunned, even after Rinzler got off him. He groaned as he sat up slowly, rubbing his head.
"Owww, hey! What the frag were you-oh bits." He cut off as he noticed the red circuits.
Occupation. They found him! He made to draw his disc and face them. Instead, he fell down when pain shot up his leg.
"Ow, agh!" He looked up with......fear? Yes, he had real fear in his eyes as he looked up at the program who tackled him. He knew who it was. The deadliest player in the Games.
Rinzler the Enforcer.
"Oh Grid save me!" He gasped out. He looked much like Rinzler's other opponents right before the enforcer derezzed them, as he tried to back off with his bad leg.

Hi All!!
Holiday announcement : I'm going to have a busy period for the next two weeks with family etc and my responses will be even more erratic than usual. I swear I am still here and want to respond, but muse cooperation and available time will be limited.

RP PET PEEVES?: Godmoding, or characters knowing things about mine that they shouldn't, mostly. One-liners also annoy me if they're not a question directly asked to my muse. It's very hard to work with that.
EXPERIENCE / HOW MANY YEARS?: Just over a year here, though I once dipped my toes in rp forums when I was really, really young... Not that I remember much of those.
PREFERENCE OF COMMUNICATION?: It depends. DMs here are usually fine, though I am also happy to chat on discord.
BEST EXPERIENCE?: All of it? All of the amazing and kind folks who are part of the RPC, if that isn't cheating. Honestly I have had a great time here and though I have not met any of the folks I RP with, I feel like I have made some genuine friends here.
FLUFF, ANGST, OR SMUT? : Angst and Fluff! (Sorry, am a sex-repulsed ace, smut isn't my cupppa tea!) I also love a good adventure plot.
PLOTS OR MEMES?: I'm more likely to send in a meme that DM to plot, mostly because I feel like memes are easier to break the ice with and get the ball rolling, though I am always happy to plot at any point!
LONG OR SHORT REPLIES?: ...both? I prefer longer replies because it gives me more to work with, but I will respond with whatever I feel is necessary for the reply, usually a paragraph or more.
TIME TO WRITE?: Mostly in the evenings, though I sometimes do a reply or two to take a small break from everything else around lunch.
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S)?: ...yeah. There may be more self-projecting on Ed that I care to admit to, though he has also... influenced me. (I got curious about crochet after I decided that was something Ed did, for example.) We both like theatre and musicals, though Ed has done more than me, we both like tea, and both have experience with coding.

Senses and other Specifics for... Eve!
WHAT DOES YOUR MUSE SMELL LIKE? Feathers and ozone! As a Being from the Grid, Eve doesn't have a smell as such, but in the User world she's been told she smells like those.
WHAT DO YOUR MUSE’S HANDS FEEL LIKE? Smooth and soft to an unnatural degree, same as anyone else on the Grid. She's annoyed she can't develop calluses.
WHAT DOES YOUR MUSE USUALLY EAT IN A DAY? On the Grid? Energy, energy, and more energy. In a variety of forms, but for time pressure reasons she usually either drinks it or pulls it straight from the world around her via her circuits. Off the Grid, she's not picky, but the more sugar and carbs the better (cake is a favourite). She likes coffee flavouring, but not coffee itself, and prefers to drink tea.
DOES YOUR MUSE HAVE A GOOD SINGING VOICE? When she's actually trying. She tends to sing off-key on purpose though, and has been known to screech rather than sing if she wants to be Particularly Irritating.
DOES YOUR MUSE HAVE ANY BAD HABITS OR NERVOUS TICKS? She pulls at her hair a lot, and bites her lip until it's damaged. She's also very likely to choose violence as a first resort, due to... prior experiences (if she fights, she buys time for others to escape... or at least get out of the surge radius).
WHAT DOES YOUR MUSE USUALLY LOOK LIKE / WEAR? On the Grid, she has her armoured Gridsuit with integrated wings, and nothing else, because Programs don't need full wardrobes. She flips back and forth between her Legacy and Encom circuits depending on how comfortable she is in her surroundings. Off the Grid, some combination of stompy boots, dark jeans, T-shirt, jacket, and fingerless gloves. She'll also steal any clothes from her User friends that fit or are oversized (her favourites are @not-that-dillinger's Ed's sweaters).
IS YOUR MUSE AFFECTIONATE? Yes. All the yes. All the cuddles. It's not uncommon to find her draped over someone's back like a living blanket. When shapeshifted into an owl she'll ride around on people's shoulders and preen them, or carefully hold their hand in her talons.
WHAT POSITION DOES YOUR MUSE SLEEP IN? Depends where she is. If she's with others somewhere safe, tangled through and on them in a puppy pile. If she's by herself somewhere safe, on either her front or her back depending on which is more comfortable. If she doesn't feel safe, she doesn't sleep. Sleep is a luxury, not a necessity.
COULD YOU HEAR YOUR MUSE IN THE HALLWAY FROM ANOTHER ROOM? Yes if she's relaxed. Eve clatters and bustles and thinks nothing of raising her voice to call out to others from several rooms away if she feels safe in her environment. If she doesn't... there's a reason her other form is locked down as an owl.

Hey everyone, Grim here...
As you no doubt know by now, I haven't been particularly active with RPs.
I SWEAR I STILL WANT TO CONTINUE THEM! Right now however, the fanfic-writing creative juices are incredibly active, and it's hard for me to focus on anything else including responses. If it's been a while, please let me know in DM (and maybe drop the link so I can re-find the thread), and I will do my best to get back to you whenever the muses decide to cooperate.
