RIP the Super League. A group of 12 “elite” European clubs attempted to start a new breakaway competition only to have it crumble in less than 72 hours. If it seems like a chaotic blur, that’s largely because that is what the lifespan of the doomed competition ultimately amounted to.

After being officially announced on Sunday night, by Tuesday the grand project began to implode as Premier League club after Premier League club started to withdraw in the face of the widespread public backlash. Indeed, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have all begun the process of pulling out, with the other six European clubs (Inter and Atletico are already on the way) not far behind.

With the Super League in tatters, it was inevitable that social media should be awash with reaction from fans around the world, most of whom were revelling in its demise.

The vast panoply of jokes and memes being made at the Super League’s expense were as hilarious as they were brutal:

Russian club Spartak Moscow marked the sad passing of the Super League and its tragic existence.

Manchester United are the only club who have ever been in the Champions League, Europa League and European Super League in the same season.

New York Jets: El camino a Trevor Lawrence

Los Jets se enfrentaron a los New England Patriots y perdieron 27-30.

Los Jets encontraron otra manera para perder, algo que sorprendió a todo el mundo. Un partido que parecía que era de los Jets para ganar, con un comienzo brillante de la ofensiva del equipo de Nueva York. Pero, se desmoronó en los últimos minutos del ultimo cuarto.

Siguiendo las reacciones en Twitter, los espectadores pensaban que Bill Belichick, el general manager de los Patriots, estaba perdiendo el partido a propósito como para frenar a los Jets que están encaminados a seleccionar a Trevor Lawrence en el NFL Entry Draft del 2021.

Durante la primera mitad del partido, los Jets marcaron 20 puntos. Liderados esta semana en Monday Night Football por el quarterback veterano Joe Flacco y el running back Frank Gore, los Jets parecían tener una nueva vida. Ni los fans podían creer que un equipo sin Sam Darnold como líder y con Adam Gase llamando las jugadas podría triunfar tanto. Pero con los Jets, nunca se puede estar cómodo, y la segunda mitad puso el último clavo en la temporada del equipo de Nueva York.

Luego del medio tiempo, Belichick logro ajustar todas las tuercas sueltas del equipo de New England y estos salieron al campo de juego en MetLife con un nuevo aire. Todavía no fue suficiente para darles la ventaja ante el equipo de Gase, pero si para acercarlos en el marcador. Los últimos quince minutos fueron desastrosos para el equipo de Nueva York. Ahí, los Patriots se pusieron a un solo touchdown de distancia luego de un segundo gol de campo por el pateador de New England Nick Folk.

Quedaban seis minutos y los Jets todavía lideraban el partido, lo único que tenían que hacer era mantener la pelota en su posesión y dejar que el reloj corra. Pero no fue así, los Patriots consiguieron posesión luego de una intercepción de JC Jackson quien frenó un pase de Joe Flacco a Denzel Mims. Agotando casi todas sus oportunidades, el quarterback Cam Newton consiguió un primer down tras jugarla en el cuarto down. Ya en tierra de los Jets, el equipo de Nueva Inglaterra se organizó durante la pausa de los últimos dos minutos y en su tercer down y gol, los Patriots capitalizaron su oportunidad con una recorrida al end zone de Cam Newton.

120 segundos restaban en el reloj y, según como estaba armado el juego, parecía que Joe Flacco tenia todo a su favor para anotar el drive ganador. Con sus cuatro oportunidades desperdiciadas, la pelota volvió al equipo de Belichick y Cam Newton demostró porque fue el MVP de la temporada del 2015. Recorrió 45 yardas en menos de un minuto y posicionó la pelota a 51 yardas para que el pateador Nick Folk sellara la victoria.

Con esta derrota los Jets ya aseguraron una temporada perdida, ya que tienen un récord de 0-9 con 7 partidos a jugar. También, es la primera vez en toda la historia de la franquicia que el equipo comienza la temporada perdiendo 9 partidos consecutivos.

No todo son malas noticias, los Jets siguen en el primer puesto para seleccionar en el draft del año que viene. Todos están a la espera a ver quien selecciona al muy codiciado quarterback de los Tigres de Clemson University, Trevor Lawrence. Un jugador que se proyecta que tendrá una temporada rookie del mismo calibre que la temporada que esta teniendo Joe Burrow, el quarterback de los Cincinnati Bengals y primera selección del draft de este año, luego de salir campeón invicto con su universidad Louisiana State University.

De no creerse, ningún fan de los Jets está decepcionado por la derrota del lunes por la noche. Todos están muy emocionados ante la posibilidad de conseguir a Trevor Lawrence y poder comenzar una nueva era para la franquicia de Nueva York.
