Area X has been cut off from the rest of the world for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; the second expedition ended in mass suicide, the third in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another. The members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within weeks, all had died of cancer. In Annihilation, the first volume of Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach Trilogy, we join the twelfth expedition.
The group is made up of four women: an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist, the de facto leader; and our narrator, a biologist. Their mission is to map the terrain, record all observations of their surroundings and of one another, and, above all, avoid being contaminated by Area X itself.
They arrive expecting the unexpected, and Area X delivers—but it’s the surprises that came across the border with them and the secrets the expedition members are keeping from one another that change everything.

Don't worry, Fodder. IS-OT just wants to cuddle with their favorite human.
Finally finished this piece after not touching it for weeks lol. Robots and Machines are not my strong suit but it was fun adding the coils and flesh.
Fodder and IS-OT are @qrowscant-art

A GHOST SHIP.
A SALVAGE CREW.
UNSPEAKABLE HORRORS.
Claire Kovalik is days away from being unemployed—made obsolete—when her beacon repair crew picks up a strange distress signal. With nothing to lose and no desire to return to Earth, Claire and her team decide to investigate.
What they find at the other end of the signal is a shock: the Aurora, a famous luxury space-liner that vanished on its maiden tour of the solar system more than twenty years ago. A salvage claim like this could set Claire and her crew up for life. But a quick trip through the Aurora reveals something isn’t right.
Whispers in the dark. Flickers of movement. Words scrawled in blood. Claire must fight to hold onto her sanity and find out what really happened on the Aurora, before she and her crew meet the same ghastly fate.

Dread by the Decade: The X-Rays
👻 My Kofi ❤️
Alternative Title: The X-Ray Fiend
Year: 1897
Genre: Horror Comedy, Science Fiction
Rating: Unrated (Suggested: G)
Country of Origin: England
Language: Silent
Runtime: 44 seconds
Director: Gregory Albert Smith
Writer: Gregory Albert Smith
Cast: Tom Green, Laura Bayley
Plot: A scientist uses his x-ray machine on a courting couple.
Review: Another example of spectacle over narrative, this extremely short clip features a fun usage of substitution splicing.
Overall Rating: 2.5/5
Performances: 3/5 - The actors are charming and cute.
Effects: 3.5/5 - Two solid enough uses of substitution splicing.
Sets: 1/5 - Can barely be called a set.
Costumes & Make-Up: 2.5/5 - Very cheap. Better costuming existed at this point in history. Still, there are endearing touches, like the skeleton's umbrella.
