What would the skeles do if someone tried to get aggressive - physically or verbally - with their S/O?
Sans (Undertale): He’s not a fighter, he doesn’t want any trouble, so his focus is on deescalating the situation if he can. If he can’t calm things down with a joke or a, “hey, no need for that, is there?” then he’s grabbing his s/o and getting them somewhere away from the situation by way of a shortcut. He just wants to be sure they’re safe and okay.
Papyrus (Undertale): That certainly can’t stand! He’s a very chivalrous sort of guy in the classical, medieval sense, meaning that he’s ready to step in and defend his datemate from any and all harassers. If it’s only verbal harassment, that person should prepare for a wittily crafted and passionate speech about why saying such terrible things about his s/o is not only uncalled for, but completely untrue and very unbecoming of them to stoop to such a thing as this! If it gets physical, though… Well, I’d just like to remind everyone that this is a skeleton who canonically has no qualms about beating the ever-living hell out of someone until they’re down to 1HP, much as he’ll avoid outright killing anyone. He’ll put the aggressor in their place quite easily if they force his hand!
Sky (Underswap Sans): He won’t get physical with anyone if he can avoid it– he’s as skilled at dodging as Sans is, but he’s also just as good at Sans at reading facial cues and Checking people without needing to be in an encounter. He’s a Judge himself, and he won’t hesitate to use the information he Sees to protect his s/o, whether that be airing the aggressor’s own dirty laundry or very accurately and embarrassingly pointing out whatever inadequacies are making them try to come after his s/o this way. If that’s not enough to shut them up or make them leave, then Sky will give it up as a lost cause and just take his s/o home ASAP with a shortcut. He tried, but his s/o’s well-being is more important than anything.
Paps (Underswap Papyrus): Doesn’t like it. Really does not like what is happening and will probably cut in before it ever gets serious demanding to know what the hell this person’s problem is. He’s good at crafting arguments and expressing them so if it’s just verbal aggression, this person has made a mistake equivalent to bringing a knife to a nuclear war– Paps is ready and willing to verbally decimate just about anybody at any time, especially if it’s in defense of his s/o. As for physical aggression, he’s also not too shabby at picking up on body language. He’s usually able to tell if things are about to get physically violent, and if that’s the case, he and his s/o are about to make a quick exit through the nearest layer he can get them through, wall, floor, or ceiling alike. He doesn’t like fighting, as a rule, and firmly believes that discretion is the better part of valor.
Jasper (Underfell Sans): His s/o is going to have to stop him from fighting this horse’s ass if they don’t want him to, because that’s his first instinct. Even if it’s just verbal aggression, that kind of disrespect is not tolerated where he’s from, it’s a sign of weakness, and if he were to just stand there and let it happen, he may as well be saying he doesn’t care about his s/o and fat fuckin’ chance of that! He’ll try to intimidate first because he’s not very sturdy in a physical fight, but if his sharp teeth and furious cussing doesn’t get the aggressor to back off, he won’t shy from a physical confrontation either. He’s just sure to make it a quick fight since he’s not built for the long game, and this dumbass will probably end up laid out on the floor before he’s even sure what hit him. N o b o d y treats his s/o like that, not while he’s around!
Pyre (Underfell Papyrus): His s/o cannot stop him from fighting this horse’s ass. Even if they wanted to, there’s not much they could do to dissuade him of theyelling, lecturing, and demands to fight for their honor that’ll come of such a challenge to them. It’s his honor on the line, too, since they’re his s/o, he’s obligated to do this! Thankfully for everyone involved, he’s already pretty intimidating-looking just standing around, and he’s utterly terrifying when righteouslyenraged, so most offenders will just accept the lecture and slink away as soon as theycan. For the ones that don’t, well… he’s very strong, too, and even just a couple ofnonlethal blows from him is enough to make them reconsider their life-choices. His s/o can try to be mad at him after, but it’s kind of hard when he nuzzles theirhand all gentleman-like and smiles at them like a cat that’s just proudly dropped a dead bird in their lap. He means well…?At least his s/o will never be unprotected.
Mal (Swapfell Sans): Depends on the situation. If he’s the only one around and he can’t pass his s/o off to somebody to make sure they’ll be safe, he’ll take them somewhere safe himself, first thing…and then he’s coming right back to whip the absolute fuck out of the peon who decided harassing his s/o was acceptable. His is another world where not responding to this kind of aggression was an admission of weakness and an invitation for anyone and everyone to come hassle you and walk all over you–if not dust you outright for the EXP. He cannot let an insult like this stand, no matter what! That’s why if somebody else, say his brother was around, he’d trust his s/o to Rus to keep them out of the fray and just handle the threat right then and there. He’s clever, though, very cautious, and he’ll make sure his vengeance goes down in a way where he’ll look the most justified or won’t have to catch too much legal hell later on. If it’s the smartest move to just cuss the bastard out and move on, that’s what he’ll do. ……But of course, there’s nothing stopping him from finding the person again later and making sure they understand what a bad move hurting his s/o in any way was, somewhere there isn’t any witnesses or cameras. Good luck proving he did anything then…
Rus (Swapfell Papyrus): Jeez, he’s a lover, not a fighter, not even an arguer. He really just wants no part of this at all. The second things start getting heated, his response depends on two factors: A) is his s/o enough of a badass to handle themselves? and B) is Mal nearby? If yes to either of those questions, he’s hanging back by the sidelines and letting either his s/o or his bro handle it. He’ll cheer his s/o on if they’re the badass, or hold them close and comfort them physically with soothing touches and hugs while Mal tears the aggressor a new one, but he doesn’t want to be involved, not that much. It’s nothing personal, fighting is just always his absolute last resort. If no badasses are present to handle this, he and his s/o are making a convenient escape because quickly ditching a bad situation is one of his most reliable skills. So he’s a coward who runs away when somebody comes at his datemate– at least nobody’s hurt, right…?
Slate (Horrortale Sans): Much like his canon counterpart, he’s not much of a fighter. His priority is going to be calming things down and making sure nothing happens to his s/o. That said…he also has a considerable size advantage over Sans Classic, and much more of an intimidation factor– especially in his own universe where humans on the surface know what monsters did to humans that fell Underground, but not all the details. That means that imagination is going to be filling in a lot of the blanks and that’s a million times scarier than anything that actually happened. Slate’s not above using his scariness to make somebody back off from his s/o and knows how to best wield his terrifying appearance to make even the toughest of jerks back down and probably run away. ………But afterwards, he’s definitely going to need some love from his s/o because he hates scaring people, he’s a joker at heart who never wanted to be as scary as he is, and he could really use the reminder that a big terrifying monster isn’t all he is to people.
Papy (Horrortale Papyrus): Oh boy, Papy…Papy is a bit of a dark horse at this. He’s a very friendly and jovial person, and by his own admission, he prefers pacifism and nonviolence so you wouldn’t expect him to be much good in a situation like this. However…the Underground and everything that happened down there really hammered it home for him that sometimes violence is unavoidable and when it happens, you have to be prepared to do whatever you can to keep your loved ones safe. He still won’t fight if he can avoid it, but if he can’t, the aggressor in this situation is really going to regret forcing his hand. He rarely stands at his full height these days, trying to be less intimidating and generally on the same level as all his friends, but to somebody insisting on trying to hurt his s/o, he won’t give them the courtesy. He’s a massive monster, just about double the average human’s height and just like his brother, he’s mastered the art of looking spooky in the extreme. Papy’s s/o has probablylong since stopped seeing him as intimidating in any way, knowing the sweet andgentle soul he houses in his skeletal body, but as he’s quick to remind anyone unlucky enough to get on his bad side, he isa towering, shambling harbinger of human death and his silent stare out of blackened eye-sockets can be infinitely haunting to look at from so, so, so high up. If they try to call his bluff, they’ll be quick to find out it’s no bluff at all, Papy is both willing and able to break them in half over his knee…but he’ll settle for a gentle roughing up that still oughta make them run crying for mama. His s/o is family and he won’t stand for anyone causing them harm!
