In regards to my last post, this is the vision:

It's dusk. There's a campfire. A makeshift stage, firelight illuminating it. On the stage are Martyn and Joel, singing Disobedient. It is important to me that you know that Joel has reformed into a less Pearly outfit, one that fits his personality more. The small crowd is cheering, Ren's one of the loudest.

Love the new piece, question: what is the context cause joel just being there is so funny to me

I guess the context is just that I was showing the gemcyt group chat Chris made for us and a few others the sketch of Etho, BigB, Skizz, Ren, and Martyn in that first formation. Then Chris responded with this and it was too funny not to add.

In my head, Joel is there because Jonny (sixteenthdays) is writing fics for this au where dogwarts (Etho, BigB, Skizz, Ren, and Martyn) are all in the same spaceship to Earth and were unfortunately stuck with Joel tagging along.

Hello hello! Im new in this community, i literally made a tumblr account at school JUST to keep scrolling in gemcyt LMAO, i had no idea there was an entire tumblr page! I had just watched Local’s two animations over and over because i absolutely LOVE Steven Universe, and hermitcraft/the life series!

So, i’ve read two fics so far (flower husbands one, and the one with grian, scar, ren, and martyn) and i LOVE them!! If there are any other fics, could someone link them to me? I love reading them and expanding on the story!

Gemcyt people!

I was listening to the SU ost out of happenstance (it’s all bangers) and I remembered that each gem has her own unique instrument/specific musical cue, probably so they can be incorporated into a fusions theme without using a leitmotif, which don’t stack together at the same time the way instruments do.

Garnet has her buzzing synths. Amethyst has her drumline and vocal “hey” callout (you’ll hear it if you relisten). Pearl and lapis both have piano, but with Pearl in major key and lapis in minor (I think, idk music stuff this is why I’m asking y’all). Even jasper exclusively has cymbal crashes in her themes.

So basically, everyone give me ya thoughts for the gemcyt character’s instruments/cues.

how do you come up with the designs

If you're asking about the gemcyt fusions, then I kinda just go purely off of the vibes and color combos from @/chrisrin's designs (+my own Nature Wives designs)

For Rhodochrosite (Shubble + Katherine), I just found individual elements from their designs that I thought stood out and slapped them together. Because I was working with orange and pink as my base colors, I was looking for roughly similarly colored gems to get the right tones. Their weapon is a rough combination of a scythe and an axe. They were my first fusion I designed, so they're definitely the most plain in comparison.

For Taaffeite (Jimmy + Lizzie + Joel + Grian), I wanted to make a more jester-like design, cause that crew is always super silly to me. I ended up looking for more purple-y gems because there was a 50% split of blue (+pink +green just kinda ended up purplish). The bubble wand came about by combining Grian's bombs with Lizzie's trident and Jimmy's hydrokinesis. Also, since both Jimmy and Grian had wing motifs and Lizzie had her signature buns, I gave Taaffeite hair wings to combine the two. They also have a darker strip of hair to mimic Joel and their more court-like attire is also from him.

For Zoisite (Lizzie + Ren + BigB + Cleo), I had a rough time settling on a gem. For a while, they were actually going to be Ammolite before I remembered I'm bad at designing gems with more than one main color (whoops). Zoisite was chosen because, while looking, I found Ruby in Zoisite and started thinking about the story implications about Ren being in a "ruby" fusion without Martyn. Then I couldn't find a good way to justify it, so I went with a standard Zoisite. The design portion was a bit easier. I wanted to go for a knightly silhouette and there were a lot of individual elements from Chris's designs that lended themselves beautifully to the concept (i.e. Ren's cape, BigB's shoulders, etc.). I wanted them to look both menacing and ethereal.
