I don't care if the world ends. But you... I can't let them take you.

so we all agree that glitch was never about aliens and was actually all about how religious (christian) upbringings lead to feeling shameful about being a lesbian and repressing everything until finally accepting who you are and then having lesbian sex, right

The thing about Glitch (the K-drama, tho it's more of a mystery comedy thriller than a drama) is that it's made of lesbian subtext, like I don't think I need to explain that to anybody it's blatantly obvious, but. And this is something that I haven' seen anybody do because the show doesn't seem to have a capital f Fandom even though it absolutely should have one, but. But it's not just lesbian subtext. I mean, I love it for that, but I also love it for the way it is willing to impress the state of mind of Jihyo who feels like she can't trust herself and others on us, and how that connects to the social pressure she is facing, how her social circle is unable to see her as anything other than a list of attributes (competent, good body, connections, normal, happy, why cant you just be happy) and how that makes her vulnerable to a cult and how she genuinely doubts herself and the reality she lives in and how important people are that interact with you unfiltered. Like it's also a story about aliens. The lesbian subtext is a central part of the story but so are all these other things, and you can't reduce it to one of these parts because they are all interconnected and equally important, I think. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and that's why Glitch is so good because all of these things are done very well. And because the show in general is done very well, of course, but I mean like specifically with regards to its themes.
I wouldn't have thought that there could be a piece of media that could engage honestly with belief in modern myths like aliens and fundamental doubt after conspiracy theorists as such lost their innocent, cooky and apolitical image with the rise of the online conspiracy crypto-fscists in real life, but Glitch does it, and it does it very well.
I also wouldn't have thought that I would become convinced that there must have been a kissing scene between the two female leads that landed on the cutting room floor, for some reason.

the implications of Jihyo already knowing she likes girls in middle-school (believes in aliens). the implications of Bora discovering she's a lesbian at the moment Jihyo rejects her and her getting bullied for being gay in middle-school and probs in high-school if she didn't droped out. the implications of Jihyo dating Siguk because 'he asked' and 'why not?' while being in denial - while actually seeing aliens inspired by Bora. the implications of Bora getting kicked out of her own home, being a reject, while denial Jihyo is in a great place, almost getting maried. the implications of Jihyo going batshit insane when she starts planning getting more seriously with her boyfriend, but her aliens dissapearing once she is with Bora again.
