The Haemonculi looks over the next batch of slaves, bound in cold iron manacles. It smiles, the thin, blue lips stitched shut, empty eye sockets staring into the Archon’s own. The current body it possesses is that of a young Drukhari, but its jerking movements and rustling skin reminds the Archon more of a.. skin-bag than a person. The voice emerges again, a chilling tone that seemingly lowers the ambient temperature.
Such a voice could only be described as sadistic. It is like the rough, wet scrape of a body against dirt, the laughter like broken glass falling to the floor, and ragged breathing that violently changes in pitch and tone, like the Haemonculi’s lungs are rebelling against its own sadistic mirth.
It raises an iron mandible, the strange tool attached to it still wet with blood. “For your continual services, Archon, I have something.. unique. Do not fret if the product is destroyed, I have many more. I like to.. reward continued help.” The tone is as if this is a friendly dinner party, slaves talked to as if they are nothing more than the Archon’s next footstool to be used.
Behind the hovering corpse-scientist walks something.. unusual. On first glance, it is a slender Aeldari slave, androgynous and with long, willowy hair that reaches past its shoulders. Dark spectacles line its youthful features, and it is dressed much like the Haemonculi, in a tunic and robe of dark jade.
The corpse-thing grins. Its voice is flowery, only barely disguising its own pride for this strange.. thing. “My personal assistant. Come closer, Archon. It won’t bite, or bark. It can’t.
Unprompted, the slave turns its head, revealing ears that are identical to an average Aeldari, but.. changed. The eyes, too, have slightly more white sclera than normal. It is a few inches shorter than the Archon. It looks too.. imperfect, to be Aeldari.
“Oh, yes. I’ve done it.” The Haemonculi raises a withered fist into the air, and all nine of its metal arms follow suit. “Blended Human and Asuryani together to create the perfect whole. Other Covens have done it too. This is my finest work. Take care of it, or kill it. I do not care. I have plenty of others waiting in gene-storage.”
Skourna was no stranger to working with Haemonculi, and yet she never could manage to maintain direct eye contact for too long with this creature.
Part of her wanted nothing more than to call for Teravelle to deal with this one. But who knows what will happen when two Haemonculus gather together for business talks...
She had assumed their business was complete until the corpse-thing said 'continued help', but she was distracted from that detail a moment later by the 'gift'.
Skourna's eyes widen as she looks at the hybrid creature being offered to her. At first its feautres were disgusting to look at. Wrong in all the ways that mattered to her subconscious but after a quick explanation...
A human aeldari hy rid creature. That was most interesting.
'And you would offer this to me?' She mused. 'Do you not need your own assistant?'
'Well, who am I to look a gift morsel in the mouth?' She asked, while doing just that. 'Does it have a name? How long will it live for?'
'And most importantly... why did you make it?' She asked.

Coven of the Altered
On Vigilus the one Xenos group who seems to be doing well, but sadly is never focused on, is the Drukhari. I’d like to particularly note the Coven of the Altered who are stated to have successfully captured several entire squads of Ultramarines.
It is a pity GW could never find the time in the Vigilus Defiant book to describe one of those battles to us.

If I were an Archon my Kabal would be called the Sexy Kabal, thereby implicitly pointing out that all others are the unsexy Kabals. Someone would kill me instantly. But no one in Commoragh would recover.
You'd die a legend. The haemonculi would enshrine your body out of respect, as the person who prompted Drukhari everywhere to stop by the covens anually for plastic surgery and body modification, quadrupling their business profits.

The Vigilus Campaign part 7
As the Imperial pursued the Craftworld Eldar, their Dark Eldar kin continued their hit-and-run raids across the planet. Their raids on Hyperia and Oteck hivesprawls were such harrowing and spectacular affairs that they became known as feared as the Carnivals of Pain. The Dark Eldar force included not just Kabalite troops but also Wych Cults and Haemonculi creations. At the head of the Dark Eldar force was the Haemonculi Coven of The Altered. The Altered were out for revenge against the sons of Ultramar after being defeated by Roboute Guilliman in a past engagement during the Indomitus Crusade. During their raids, the Dark Eldar managed to capture entire squads of Ultramarines and haul them off to Commorragh.

Haemonculus Report!
Well because that scourge ripped my interrogation doors straight off the hinges I am borrowing Raabia's guest room for now. 😿
So Raabia lured in a stowaway Haemonculi in her ship and I took the opportunity! From the looks of this one, he is considered an elite more akin to like a Commander in the Imperium! He was very terrifying! He gave my acolytes shivers down their spines! So here is how it went!
Me: Hello mister Haemonculi I am-
Him: Inquisitor Suria binti Muhktaar Ordo Xenos. Local thorn to the side in my humble opinion. That is Master Haemonculus Asmo'deus Painbearer to you...Inquisitor.
He took one look at Sinnead with a devilish smirk on his face as he states:
Him: Sister...your face is so familiar. You must recall a Seraphim named Aisling correct?
This was unsettling! She looked at him with an expression of distrust and anger.
Him: Her flesh was quite exquisite. I could hear the prayers to her corpse god as I bit into her flesh. Paired that with the finest glass of wine hand made by once enslaved drukhari, like Absdrubael Vect, fermenting for years to come. Do not get me started on her liver now.
He ended such a brutal sentence with a hiss that made us shiver. Sinnead looked like she was ready to fight this man immediately as he smiled proudly at her.
Me: So uhm...Master Haemonculus. Ahem! Well I heard that you assisted Fabius Bile. Why?
Him: Not I you simpleton! It was the Coven of the Thirteen Scars. I can not believe you would make such an assumption. I represent the Hex coven you mere worm. Well yes it is true, the man I heard was a total rookie. It was hilarious of the stories that I was told in there!
Me: Oh okay okay! Please remain calm! I am just asking questions. Oh! Well The Hex? Covens?
Him: Please do not tell me you have not heard of Haemonculi covens...Inquisitor.
Me: Of course I have!! I just want you to explain!
He looks at me with a tired look of doubt on his face. I do know! I promise!
Me: I know about The Thirteen Scars, Prophets of Flesh, The Ebon Sting, The Everspiral-
Him: But not The Hex?! Tell me Inquisitor is it normal for your kind to be so disrespectful? You would be a mere chew toy for Mazoras.
Me: Uhh...what? 🙀

Chaos Eldar Sorcerers - complete
Partially a little “for fun” build, these three are modelled to be Eldar fallen to the sway of Chaos, perhaps old pre-fall Aeldari who now serve the dark gods.
As a regular Drukhari player, my intention is to build from here, and either use these as Haemonculi (with Daemon-inspired Coven units) as more likely as Beastmasters (with Endless Spell inspired Beasts).
The main build is based on a Necromunda Delaque Ganger body, with arms from the Blackstone Fortress Rogue Psykers (with sleeves made of Green Stuff. The heads are Dark Elf Black Guard, with hair fixed with Green Stuff.
They ride on leviatating toothed-washers (razor wheels), which I’m thinking of using to build some of the Beasts they’ll control.
I don’t have a cool name for the trio just yet.

Commoragh John armor items
Stranglecord on his wrist, easily deployed and can double as a way to quickly climb a building in a pinch.
Slot for a shoulder mounted observation drone he can send up to watch the area.
Sheaths built into his armor to protect his blades from any damage in travel.
Magnetic clamps built into his leg armor that is easy to disable for him so he can keep held onto his Bike at high speeds in a Commoragh chase.
Variable Sight types (Thermal, Night Vision, and more) built into a helmet he tends to wear on jobs.
Boots with hidden blades, meant to be a last stand weapon.
Slot to carry captured weaponry on back, usually filled with a Standard that has the sigil of the Kabal/Cult/Haemonculi Coven he currently works on it.
Wrist mounted Flamers, highly pressurized and connected to a tank on his back by lines under his armor.
Secondary oxygen supply built into his armor.
Scrapped Drug Injection ports he removed the first time he 'afforded' the armor.
Kill markings on his helmet of amount of people who tried to skip out on his payment by attempting to kill him, at 20 and still going strong.

Reports come in of the Tyrannic Screeching of Hive Fleet Behemoth having become similar to the frequency of a Drukhari rave. Reports are vague as to what transpired but a gibbering Astropath mentioned something about, "The 'former' Hive Fleet having enjoyed its meal, though it mentioned something tasting leathery and of glitter."
The assumption here would be that it’s because most Drukhari wear leather; this is a common mistake. In this particular instance, the leathery texture came not from the clothing of the consumed parties, but from a Haemonculus coven that was horrifically devoured. It turns out that the skin of Haemonculi has the same texture as sun-bleached running shoes. The more you know.

In another example of Haemonculus being stupid. One in the Word Bearers Trilogy doesn’t know at all about Astartes Biology, And the fact they’re able to entire a Coma induced state, where there heart stops,
Haemonculi are often sadly underwhelming considering their lifespans and the amount of information they are suppossed to process.
But, look, the problem with Haemonculi is a deep-seated one which won’t ever be solved.
Simple fact is that because Space Marines and Custodes exist, and because they are protagonists, the greatest feats of genetic engineering will ALWAYS be from humans and only humans.
As a result a faction of genetic ‘geniuses’ who’s whole thing is that they’re meant to be ingenious at biological and geneitcs related technology is always going to just lead to them being a disappointment again and again because this internal tension can’t be resolved.
GW needs to pain the Haemonculi as if they are the greatest geniuses of genetic craft because their lipservice is that Aeldari technology outstrips Imperial technology, but Space Marines and Custodes always need to be better than everyone so the execution just results in Haemonculi looking like idiot braggarts who clearly can’t compare to the Imperium in actual genetic engineering.
It’s sad but because of how 40k is Haemonculi just don’t work. As a faction they simply do not work. They are a group of deluded idiots painted as competent but who have been consistently demonstrated to be inferior to the Imperium in their chosen profession.
The Emperor, Fabius Bile, Cawl have each, individually, achieved more in the art of genetic engineering and enhancement than the entire Haemonculi Covens have over ten-thousand years.
To be blunt Haemonculi should be radically altered away from genetic technology specialists or should be altered to not be a proficient and proud collection but just a group of amateurs since, to be blunt again, the Imperium already out-competes the Haemonculi Covens on an Industrial scale.
The Haemonculi make Groteques, Wracks and Engines of Pains, weapons which hardly every achieve anything but dying. The Imperium cranks out over twenty foundings of Space Marines, over ten thousand Custodes, at such a rate that it never has a noticeable drop in their numbers and even a handful of these regularly go on to win entire system-spanning wars.
Put bluntly, sadly, in the actual reality of the fluff Haemonculi are just bad at what they do.
