In which everyone learns Hangman is much more like Maverick than they thought trauma responses too.

So one day after the suicide mission and the daggers are now a permanent squadron due to Ice Mav decides to do a plane swap so the single seaters get the opportunity to feel what it's like to have someone behind them.

However Hangman refuses to, even going as far to sit on the floor. The others make fun of him (except Coyote and Mav) but Mav is the first to realise how pale and short of breath Hangman seems to be and is even sure he sees him trembling slightly.

So to get him out he tells Hangman how he needs him to drop off some paperwork to his husband and how he can stay with Ice Incase he needs any help.

It isn't until he ran out the door the others realised something was truly wrong. It's not until later that Coyote tell them why.

(It took Hangman nearly two minutes in Ice office before he broke down and Ice realises that this kid acts like Maverick when he was younger and his heart breaks when he realises that this comes from a trauma shared between them. Though why was this never in his file).

Coyote later explains to them the reason Hangman won't fly with a backseater and it explains the relationship between those two.

It turns out Coyote knew Hangman from before he joined top gun. That it turned out that Coyote's older brother was Hangman's backseater and how a flying exercise turned into the death of one person and the mental trauma of another.

How hangman has sworn off having a backseater and tries to do everything solo.

It leaves everyone in shock and questioning if the rumours about hangman were ever true.

One knew he needed to apologise asap and another knew he was going to keep a tighter eye on hangman.

No one was surprised the next morning when they walked into the base only to see hangman stuck in between Mav and Rooster hugging him with the most confused look on his face.

Sad headcanon hour: Bradley doesn't have the time to introduce Jake to uncle Tom as something else than Hangman. Not the first time they're together, because they're not talk and Bradley isn't watching Admiral Kazansky in the eyes the few times they meet in official occasions, and not the second when they make up and start to built a relationship again. There's a mission to complete and Bradley can barley think about sleeping let alone about a funeral and mending things with Jake. After, after, it's different and they get back together and it's the moment in which he asks Jake to come home to meet his uncles that the realisation hits. Jake is going to get to know uncle Pete and the someone behind his callsign but uncle Tom is going to stay just Admiral Kazansky in Jake's life. Not the man who swear to teach whomever Bradley was going to end up with the secret recepie for their favourite soup or the man who knew enough facts about his life to spend years talking about something different everytime. Uncle Tom is another name Bradley adds to the ones he lost and of which he will only be able to share a part and not the whole.

(Uncle Pete gives something to Jake, after their third dinner together. My husband has made this for you. The first time around we heard you two got together and he-he really hoped to meet you but- and it breaks everyone's heart how Maverick is looking at their photos over Jake's shoulder he used to say better safe than sorry, so it's for you and only Jake.)

((The first winter they're stationated in the same place and Bradley gets a cold Jake disappears in the kitchen for hours and, when he comes back, he's holding a plate that smells like something from his childhood. He gave me almost forty minutes of instructions on how to cook it he says kissing his forehead and Bradley can't do much more than offer back a watering smile to the man in front of him and let himself be hugged and comfort a little longer, while he eats his lunch.))

Alternate universe in which Tom 'Iceman' Kazansky Lives and Jake and Bradley are finally in a relationship after the mission and the dagger squad is a permanent squad.

So everyone knows MaverickandIceman and MaverickandRooster but everyone was surprised about TomandJake.

So we all saw the scene in which Mav and Rooster work on his P-1 Mustang. So imagine Rooster, Mav, Iceman and Hangman are at the hangar and the plane is finally flight worthy. So Mav and Rooster take it up for a flight which leaves Hangman and Iceman in the hangar at first it's awkward and quiet.

Then Hangman spots the 'The Photo Wall' and looks at it and then suddenly Iceman is explaining every picture to him and well that's when the conversation finally starts.

So when Mav and Rooster get back they're surprised to see them conversing.

But then it doesn't stop.

At the house.

At the hangar.

At the Base.

They always seemed to be talking.

So when Rooster and Hangman finally got married so one was surprised when Tom walked Jake down the isle.

Oh, Jake almost forgot about this. About basking in Bradley's presence, in Bradley's home, looking at the other man over the rim of his glass and the ever present wind making the little twinkle Carole made sing like the smallest of birds. He remembers now, twenty years later, being fifteen and living two streets from the Mitchell-Kazansky household and how his mom used to leave him there for hours at time when his dad was deployed somewhere. He remembers how much he loved being around them, with uncle Pete and his weirdo pizza and uncle Tom who always knew when they didn't eat veggies even when he was stationed on the other side of the country or on a boat in the middle of the Indian Ocean. He remembers too how good uncle Tom used to look in tanktops and how his cheeks were always a little red around him but they used to get even redder when Bradley smiled or touched him. He used to steal every moment around the other boy and his home, basking in their smiles and the easy going relationship they all had, without feeling guilty or afraid of saying something wrong. It was like recharging his batteries before going back home, the lingering feeling of euphoria and happiness that could last for days if everything was calm around his house. He remembers the pictures too, all the one uncle Tom took before his last visit and the one that uncle Pete sent to his mom after they changed house again. And he will always remember, even after seeing him again at the Academy and starting their fifteen years long dance around each other, the hoodie Bradley gave him on the porch of his house the very last time the saw each other. His uncles where in the kitchen talking about something and Bradley was shyly smiling at him, handing him is soft blue hoodie with the Naval academy logo on the front. Their hands touching over the soft material and they were kissing before realising it. The first kiss of his life and Bradley was smiling softly at him, cheeks a little red and shiny eyes.

He remembers being fifteen and all the good feelings he is feeling even now, while he watches the people he used to think as family, and he hopes is going to call family again, making the table for their dinner.

On a scale from the time Maverick tried to serenade him in front of every person present to the annual conference to the one he had to pick up Maverick and throw him over his should to avoid another Admiral to sent him only they know where this situation is almost as embarrassing as the one where Bradley discovered them making out in a closet.

In front of him Phoenix and Hangman are looking at him with the most mortified expression he ever saw on their face. So I guess the surname alliteration with Lt. Shen and Lt. Bradshaw wasn't intentional? Both of them look as guilt as a Maverick did every single time. Good to know I haven't sent them out then. You're both dismissed and please, next time you do something like that be sure you're actually married to them.

Hangman smiles at him before disappearing with a very red-faced Phoenix and he can distinctively hear them talking just outside his door. It's pretty awkward to explain why both of them see the world in so many different shades when they're not together anymore. In the very first conversation they have, when they're alone after the meeting in the bar, Jake points out that Bradley's hair are a little darker than the last time they saw each other and Bradley has to bite his cheek to not say yeah and your lips are pinker, can I kiss you? but he answers your seems lighter now. What a great fucking conversation, they both find themselves thinking.

Bradley is eight the first time his mom buys him a Hawaiian shirt and it's the end of it. By the time he's sixteen uncle Tom and uncle Pete have to buy another closet just for them because they don't leave space for any other type of clothes. It takes them three an entire afternoon to assemble the whole thing and at the end Bradley is tired and his stomach hurts for how much he laughed.

At thirty eight and still wearing awful shirts with even worst pattern Bradley, now Rooster, is going to explain to Maverick that it never really was about the shirts but more the memories they carry. Carole taking him to shopping, the icecream after his first shirt and the two hours long drive where she talked about his dad laughing and not crying for the first time, the time uncle Tom took him to buy a new one after a particularly good essay and proceeded to have a serious discussion about pattern with him and a clearly stoned clerk, when he was wearing his uniform and everyone was looking at him like an alien. He took me to the movies after! We ate so much pop corn I haven't touched another one since then! To not forget all the time Maverick himself took him to buy new ones, all the things they did together while they were trying to find the most perfectly fine patterns or the one year long bet to see whom of them would have found the worst hawaiian shirt ever made in the history of hawaiian shirts. And he says with a lower voice, there's a particular one I'm going to wear the day me and Jake are going to figure it out. I wore that for out first date and I'm going to wear it for our second first date.

Lately Bradley is acheaing and missing things, people, from the past and he can't seem to pinpoint the reason. They did what they had to do and they come out of it alive and relativitly unharmed by it, in a week time someone will sent him somewhere on an assignment, but when he looks around, when he looks at the people he calls family, he can feel the sadness and the desperate need to reach out for a hand that isn't there anymore. Multiple hands of multiple people. He search for them even in his sleep. When he wakes up the bed is cold, no one is hugging him and the people he misses are still missing in his life.

So Hangstar but instead of being aviators they're formula 1 drivers with Hangman in RedBull and Rooster in Ferrari. With enemies to rivals to lovers setting.

Mav/Ice could be in charge of Ferrari. Whilst Cyclone/Warlock in charge of RedBull.

And maybe the reason they started as enemies is due to Roosters angry attitude which made him make Hangman intentionally crash early career.

Not that i'm ever going to write all of this but eh, one never knows, maybe someone wants some prompts or inspiration will finally struck me once and for all lol

This wasn't supposed to happen: Yale/Harvard, pre-Mission, mechanical faliur, adrife in the sea;

Confrontation: Rooster comes around to talk with Slider about all the photos he found on his mom's bedside table. He just wants to know, things escaldes a litte (past slooserole);

Gun to temple: Mav and Merlin are just coming home after deployment. They end up in the middle of a robbery (Icemav and Merlin/his wife);

Can't pass out: long day at paper work, first diagnosis of cancer, Ice doesn't know his limits, Ron tries to help (Ron is the bestest of best friends);

Blood loss: Mav gets shot during the mission. They realised it when it was almost too late (Maverick);

I've got pulse: Jester has a heart attack (Jester and Viper);

Shaking hands: after the mission, Bob's hands start shaking without a reason (PTSD; Bob & Pheonix);

Beak from the dead: Goose wakes up three and a half hours after they have declared him dead (Goose centric; carolegoose);

Tossin' and turning: sometimes Fritz can't sleep, and Harvard knows how cuddling helps him to calm down (platonic Fritz/Harvard/Yale);

Waterboarding: they can't eject and the jet starts to fill with water (Hollywolf, during the Layton sequence);

Self-done first aid: Omaha bangs his head, by accident, against something and tries to patch it all by himself. Halo discovers him trying to stitch himself (Omaha & Halo);

Mayday! Mayday! : the story of why Phoenix and Halo no longer fly together (Halix);

Fracture: Carole breaks her arm, Goose and Slider take care of her (Slooserole);

I'll be right there with you: they were supposed to be on a simple reconnaissance mission, but they were shot down and are now fleeing for their lives (Hollywolf);

New scars: he stopped counting them when he was ten, but the new ones make him want to check it all over again (Ice centric: 5+1);

No one's coming: they get lost during a training exercise and it takes the others 72 hours to find them. For the longest time, they both believed this was how it would end (Sunchip);

Stress position: being hanged by his hands wasn't in Cyclone's plan for the morning (Cyclone centric);

Take my coat: He's sitting down in the car they sent to pick him up when the realisation of what happened hits him, and he's so fucking cold. Hondo offers him his coat (post-Darkstar crushing, platonic mavhondo);

Head lolling: everything quickly turns from a dream to a nightmare (Warlock/Cyclone, flying together, '90s setting);

Fetal position: Jake doesn't want to go back, but his dad's funeral forces him to do so. Back to Fallon Javy holds him until he's back in himself (catatonic state + dealing with emotions. marcheresin, can be read as romantic or platonic);

Allergic reaction: seafood is great, until Bob doesn't stop breathing (Bob & Phoenix);

Caughing out blood: he can wash that shirt all over again and again, but he won't ever be clean again from Ice's blood. Bradley doesn't know what to do (Icemav + Bradley; pre-first diagnosis);

Forced to kneel: medioeval au! King Caine forces Maverick to kneel in front of everyone as part of his punishment (Mav is the head of the rebellion);

Blood covered hands: Bradley is barely breathing between his arms and his hands are covered in his blood. Jake prays all the way to the hospital that won't be the last time he will hold Bradley (hangstar; can be read as platonic or romantic);

Lost voice: Life takes his voice away too. (Ice centric);

Separeted: there's a storm in the middle of the ocean, and it's fast and brutal. Trying to go up and up makes them lose where the other is. (panick attack; flying together; halix, bob & omaha friendship);

Stumbling: alcohol helps, but Ron can't stop asking himself why he's still there. Tom doesn't have answers but he tries anyway (Slider & Ice, post Carole's funeral);

Anger born of worry: Amelia isn't answering her phone. Her moms are worried and then angry when she comes back smiling and laughing like nothing happend (pennycharlie+amelia);

Better me than you: Mav dies instead of Goose, but it takes time and Mav has time to say sorry (hop 31 if it went down differently);

Please don't touch me: Bill likes to have it all, Tom learns he's the other one (Cougar/Ice; cheating; pre-top gun);

You can rest now: in Ice's den, after the mission, everyone's alive and breathing, but letting go isn't really an option (daggers + icemav).
