Oooo tell us about your favorite fic that you wrote

Oooooh, my favorite fic?? Hm, that's gonna be a tough one, haha!

I suppose I'll talk about the fic I'm currently the most invested in, We Loved Once and True! I've rambled a bit about it before but don't worry about it!

So, this is a VERY self-indulgent fantasy AU of Red Dead Redemption 2, which heavily features some OCs of mine. These OCs weren't specifically created FOR Red Dead, buuuut I wanted to use them here hehe. It's also a soulmate AU, because I'm a sucker for those when they're done well.

The plot revolves around Arthur Morgan and my OC Aderyn Maddock, who met when they were young and realized they were soulmates. Aderyn joined the gang and ran with them for two years, before something terrible happened and Aderyn was separated from the gang, presumed dead. In this universe, there's no indicators for soulmates to let you know if they're alive or dead, so Arthur fully believed they had died.

Then, 13 years later, during the time of the actual game, Arthur finds Aderyn again when they save him from a cougar attack. They're both older and more bitter, as well as much more scarred, and they're both furious with each other. Aderyn is hurt and angry that Arthur never looked for them to see if they were really dead, and Arthur is hurt that Aderyn never came back to him. However, they do still care about each other, it's just hard to trust each other again.

The story from there is all about them learning to trust each other again and falling in love all over again, as well as exploring how Aderyn's presence would change the plot of the game.

Also, yes, this is a fantasy AU! This means there's magic and funky non-humans (and human-to-the-left folks) galore! Aderyn is a harpy and Arthur is a half-elf. Don't worry about it <3

Okay I will try to stick to just 5 headcanons but trust me I have put Way too much thought into this AU. I'll try to avoid ones that are spoilers for the fic itself,,,

1. Soulmates are a thing in this universe, but having a soulmate is very rare. Soulmates can be platonic, romantic, or even both! And some people can have multiple soulmates. Essentially, having a soulmate just means that the person is going to have a big impact on your life in some way, not necessarily that they're meant to be your romantic partner.

2. Magic is innate and varies greatly from person to person. Not everyone has magical ability, but everyone who does have it generally has one main ability they can do with their magic rather than a large variety of spells. Everyone's magic works differently, so there is no single magic system.

3. Dutch's magic specifically is a passive ability that he has no control over--he's effectively immortal, but his magic drains the life force of those around him to fuel his own. Hosea has taken the brunt of it over the years, slowly growing weaker and weaker as time passes.

4. Arthur doesn't have any magic, though his mother was quite a skilled mage herself as far as he remembers. He isn't sure what her magic was, but he knows it must have been powerful.

5. I want it to be known specifically that Josiah Trelawny, famed magician extraordinaire, does not have any genuine magic. He has somehow convinced the gang full of actual magic users that he is a skilled illusionist but in fact he has no magical ability. I think that's beautiful.
