Helsingfors Just realised that Helsinki is called Helsingfors in Swedish. It's funny in a good, educational sort of way, and spooky too - the kind of information you can get from a snap you'd taken some time back. This was taken close to the Helsinki Central Station. Dusk from Pitkäsilta bridge

A good indication of how expensive a city can be on your wallet is to have a pint of beer.

Having just crossed the Baltic sea, from, well, the Baltic States, I noticed a gradual rise in the price of beer - from Vilnius (cheapest 😌), through Riga (cheaper 😔) and into Tallinn (cheap 😣), until I asked for a pint in Helsinki (😳). I thought around 7-8 Euros was daylight robbery. Which is how, in my thirst for cheaper beers, I found myself in Kallio.

It's located east of Helsinki, and has a cool vibe about it. More Bohemian and chilled out. It's quite a walk from the city centre, which is how I found myself, standing on Pitkäsilta bridge, catching my breath and catching the sunset.

The bridge, I realised later, was a divider between the haves and have-nots a while ago.

I just wish I'd headed straight here from the boat. If only I'd known. If only. 😅
