WIP WEDNESDAY
[looking over The Little Wolf] Me: You know what this needs? A dash of ANGST! [grabs the angst glitter and accidentally drops the whole jar all over it] Me: Oops Me: ... [cackles evilly anyways]
“I can’t feel my magic,” Kol gasped, hysterical. “Why can’t I feel my magic?”
It was the first thing Niklaus heard when he woke.
That, and the steady beating rhythm, slowing with each moment, a constant repetition of da-dum, da-dum.
He blinked his eyes open to see Mikael knelt down next to Rebekah, holding the bloody wrist of an empty-eyed girl, not much older than Rebekah herself. She looked awfully pale in the candlelight and the blood…
Niklaus couldn’t stop staring at the blood. The steady beat in his head, that constant da-dum, da-dum, was familiar now - the beat of a heart.
“Drink!” Mikael snarled, shoving the bloody wrist in his sister’s face. “DRINK!”
Rebekah cried out, terrified at what was happening, and Niklaus watched as fangs burst free from her gums, her eyes bleeding red. Then she was attacking the girl’s wrist, greedily gulping down the blood dripping out of her.
Slowly, Niklaus pulled himself up to a sitting position, crawling over to the slumped over girl. Mikael wasn’t focused on him, instead muttering assurances to Rebekah, urging her to drink, just a little more. He just wanted to get a little closer. As if entranced, he arrived beside the dying girl, staring down at the blood smothered all over her skin. He took her hand in his, raising her arm so he could see better. Unable to pull away, he stared at it, listening to the heart as it lazily pumped blood through the body, trickling through the veins. Sharp fangs erupted from his own gums, piercing through the flesh, and Niklaus could hold back the hunger no longer, lurching forward to sink his teeth into the girl’s wrist.
The ambrosia hidden in her veins tasted divine, even through his own haze of horror.
There was a roar of fury and suddenly Niklaus was yanked back, torn from the girl’s arm and thrown to the floor.
“Did I say you could drink, boy?” Mikael snarled, looming over him with his own fangs bared. Niklaus recoiled back, but soon became distracted by the blood on his fingers, staring at them in fascination before hesitantly licking one clean, greedily licking the rest soon after. Frustrated, Mikael whirled around, gaze landing on his brother instead.
“Elijah!” Mikael grabbed the frozen young man, hauling him towards the girl Rebekah had yet to pull away from. “Drink, complete the transition,” he ordered.
Elijah shook his head, trying to back away from the “I don’t-”
“DRINK!” Mikael roared.
Elijah drank. The girl’s heartbeat slowed, her breathing becoming shallow. Niklaus couldn’t focus on anything else, slowly wiping more blood up from the floor and licking it from his hands.
Da-dum, da-dum.
Da-dum…da-dum.
…Da-dum.
Silence.
“What is this madness?” Rebekah whispered in horror when the girl laid in Elijah’s lap had laid dead for far too long, all her blood drained dry.
It was then that Niklaus looked around, noticing the other bodies littering the floor, bodies Kol, Finn and Mikael had drained, their mouths still bloody from the carnage.
“Tonight, we are all reborn,” Mikael declared, rising from his knees. “Your mother has granted us the gifts of the gods.”
Niklaus, along with his siblings, all turned to their mother, who he now noticed stood at the edge of the room, warily watching them all. Fed the scraps of his siblings' meals, Niklaus wondered if his mother’s heartbeat had always been that loud, or if the hunger in him was just too great.
“What did you do?” Finn breathed, staring at their mother with wide, betrayed eyes.
“Finn, it was for your own good-” Esther began to say, reaching for Finn. He flinched backwards, glancing between their mother and father in dawning horror. “-I can not lose any more of you-” she tried to plead.
Finn shook his head, staggering away, and Esther followed, calling his name, pleading with him to listen. They disappeared further into the house.
“I can’t feel my magic,” Kol said again, voice cracking, as if he had not heard a word of what their father had said before. He used the meal table beside him to haul himself to his feet, raising a shaking hand towards the blown out candle sitting upon the wood. “Ljós.”
The candle in front of him remained unlit.
His expression twisted then, a mess of despair and rage, bursting out of his throat in a bellow of raw agony. The walls didn’t shake and the candles didn’t flare, their house motionless in the face of his pain. Forcing his hand, he leapt forward, physically throwing the table over himself and scattering the unlit candles onto the floor, the wax cracking on impact.
Immediately after, he crumpled to the floor like a puppet whose strings had been cut, fury gone, curling himself around his knees as his chest heaved with broken sobs.
“Kol!” Rebekah choked, crawling over to his side, her own tears falling down her cheeks as she tried to comfort him the best she could, hugging him to her chest, looking over his shoulder at Elijah and Niklaus, pleading for aid.
Niklaus could not find any words to say. Elijah was too busy staring in horror at the blood on his hands to notice.

Hopes for Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes
Man, the title of the game makes that sentence awkward to read.
Anyway, now that I've come down from my Dimitri hype, I wanted to briefly talk about my hopes for Three Hopes (again, that sounds awkward as f*ck). These aren't things I want or expect from this game, the only thing I ever expect and want out of a game is for it to be fun, these are just things that, if they do appear, will be neat.
And I will be talking slight spoilers for Three Houses, Fire Emblem Warriors, and Age of Calamity; just a heads up.
Expand on FEW's gameplay
Speaking as someone who played FEW for dozens of hours on both the 3Ds and Switch, what made me really like it is how it managed to make the FE-style gameplay work with the traditional Warriors gameplay. And it'd be cool if they built upon that more for TH. Specifically, go the AoC route and include specific elements from the original game. Some ideas I have are breakable weapons, relic benefits and penalties, support pair-up types, forging, motivation, dismounting, and crest activations; the last two are a possibility since we see them in the trailer. Just really spice up the formula to make mowing down hundreds of mooks even more fun.
Side quests and paralogues
Lowkey the side quests in AoC we're some of my favorite things to do, more than the main story missions. Completing mini-challenges and gathering collectibles to unlock rewards and power up my characters was fun and felt rewarding seeing my hard work pay off. We did get a brief glimpse of the overworld map and saw small challenges between the main story battle, so this is another thing that's highly possible. Paralogues I can see being the same thing, but have a bit more story relevance and maybe how you obtain some of the relics.
Don't lock Ashen Wolves behind DLC
Not that I'm averse to Three Hopes getting DLC, just don't let it be the Ashen Wolves again. I don't care that's how it went in the main game, don't put it in the spin-off. I don't wanna have to pay extra money to play as Yuri.
Jeralt is alive and playable
He showed up for like half a second during the trailer; that alone makes me hope that he's alive in this timeline. If they can bring Zelda's dad (and pretty much everyone) back to life in AoC, they can do the same with Jeralt. Just... please. I really like Jeralt.
Let Byleth actually talk
Don't! Make! Byleth! Silent!
I don't want them to remain a silent protagonist. That was already a stupid decision to begin with, don't carry it over. It doesn't work, especially since everything in FE nowadays is voice acted. If Legend of Zelda can put voice acting in their games, you have no excuse. Even if their personality is nothing to write home about, I want Byleth to be more than a self insert for players.
Edelgard gets chewed out for her bullish*t
If this really is meant to be the golden route of Three Houses, then there needs to be a scene where Edelgard's behavior and actions are called out. Her beliefs are morally, ideologically, and fundamentally wrong and someone needs to look her dead in the face and tell her, "Hey, what your doing is f*cked up. Stop it." Claude's line in the trailer gives me hope that we'll see someone knock her off the pedestal she imagined for herself, so hopefully, they do deliver.
Oh, and please don't have the character that calls her out backpedal on it and apologize to her 5 minutes later. Have her face consequences!
No Repeated Playstyles
As much as I love FEW, I can't deny that having multiple characters share the exact same move set is really disappointing, especially for weapon types I love (the archers got screwed over and that makes me sad).
The Zelda Warriors games have shown that they can make unique movesets for a large cast of characters, even those that use the same weapon. And with Three Houses having roughly 40 playable characters along with how the flexibility of what you can make each unit being one of the game's strongest features, I'm hoping this carries over if they intend to have everyone in Three Hopes (and really, why shouldn't they?). The clones were the biggest complaint to come FEW, so I'm hoping they took that into account when designing this cast.
Make TWSITD Actually Threatening
Again, if this is going to be the golden route where the Slithers are the big bad, they need to actually be threatening. TWSITD are a group that sounds terrifying on paper, but in execution is as threatening as being smacked by a wet noodle. It's hard for me to fear a group where one of its members is killed by another, one whose ultimate spell works for all of two minutes, and where its leader is either killed in favor of a bigger threat, killed offscreen, or, my personal favorite, is killed by accident! And these are the people I'm supposed to be scared of?
If the Slithers are going to be a major presence in Three Hopes, they better do something to earn it. Maybe the purple-haired guy and the deity attached to him will do something to help.
Cute and Cool New Designs!
We've only gotten a handful so far, but I love the new looks for the students.
Dimitri, you already know, the purple on Claude works so well, and Hubert somehow got more goth and I love it! The only one I'm iffy on is Edelgard because it feels like too big a departure from her usual designs.
But if what we got so far is fantastic, I can't wait to see what the others look like!
And I think that just about everything.
Like I said at the beginning, I'm not gonna knock the game if these things don't happen. So long as the game is fun to play, I'll like it.
Now to start counting down the days.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not certain about Clover's character either since we don't get to explore his thought processes but I have fun testing out alternative readings of the character like is he actually confident or faking it to hide an inferiority complex. Either interpretation can work depending how you frame it so it's fun to posit about both. One thing interesting with the scenes you mention is Clover never refers to his luck as something solely for him to benefit from. 1/?
In the mines he says Qrow is the one who is lucky not something like “Well lucky for me my semblance is Good Fortune”. He wishes others like Robyn luck but at the manor says “Wish us luck” and when Qrow makes a joke that put Clover in the spotlight as the source of that luck Clover pauses and brightens. The van scene has a similar spin Clover says the kids are lucky to have a mentor (Qrow) and not everyone is as lucky. Is this him acknowledging his own good fortune 2/?
Or did he grow up without a mentor and “get lucky enough” to make it through regardless. Either reading works. Clover’s semblance is unique in that unlike other privileges in the real world, like being born with a lot of money, Clover is the only person with his circumstances. Meaning he would constantly be reminded that his point of view is not the norm. Perhaps he’s even hyper vigilant about it similar to how Qrow likely blames every bad thing on his luck Clover second guesses every good 3/?
Maybe Clover’s the type to not trust naturally good events or believe they are normal occurrences. Maybe he doesn’t talk about bad things because he thinks that’s just how things are. A lot of people with various mental illnesses/neurodivergentices don’t realize they are different they just think that’s how things are. Do his cocky moments come off negative because of pride or difficulty connecting or both. What ever you decide its fun to speculate and I enjoy stories that explore that.
You’re very welcome, Anon! But wow, I’m honestly a bit floored at all of this. In a good way, of course! I just hope I can do justice to the time you’ve taken to think and write all this out. With that said, here goes?
I think that’s exactly what makes Clover an interesting character to write. While it’s bittersweet that we didn’t get much backstory or a wider arrangement of scenarios to see him act in, it’s also fun to see how people fill in the gaps themselves. People can go a confident, flirty route, and it fits. Others can portray a secretive, somber side, and it works just as well. It’s definitely fun to build him up based on what we’ve been given, and there are people who seem to enjoy any and all sides people want to portray.
With those scenes you’ve mentioned, starting with the mine scene, Clover wishing Qrow luck always made me… well, curious, I guess? Here’s a man well-known (infamously or otherwise) across Remnant, and when he says he has the direct opposite of Clover’s semblance, that he carries misfortune with him regardless of his own consent, Clover takes a second before telling him it’s a shame that Qrow thinks he’s better off working alone because of it. I’ve never been able to tell if that’s because he thinks semblances like theirs can work to their benefits (since it’s been shown) or if he’s trying to offer comfort in some way.
But it’s almost bittersweet, that scene. Since Clover is practically everything Qrow could be, even when you remove the good luck semblance: his appearance is of a strong, capable leader with his head on straight who cares for those under his charge. (Not that Qrow isn’t any of these himself, but self-perceptions are rarely skewed in the positive in situations like that.) So I have to wonder if Clover’s “lucky you, huh?” can be Clover actually saying something like, “it’s okay,” - something based off first impressions - and if Qrow can work towards believing that after everything he had gone through prior to Atlas. Coming from someone outside of the kids and Tai, or Summer - a reassurance of lingering good despite the ever-lasting bad - I still can’t shake the fact that it’d be a bitter pill for Qrow to swallow regardless of Clover’s intentions, and regardless that a friendship did eventually bloom between them.
With wishing Robyn luck, I like to think it’s because Clover knows that despite their differences in alliances, in tactics, he knows that she’s doing her damndest for her people - she’s doing whatever she can regardless of what’s stopping her, and I think he not only admires that tenacity but relates to it. Or perhaps he aspires towards it. It seemed to hint at some connection prior to what we saw, be it just them working on opposite sides or if they knew each other from elsewhere, but I liked the humanity it showed in Clover. It’s hard to wish someone luck when they’re against you, and considering it came from him (and given the voice actor’s tone in this scene), it sounded… genuine. You’re right, he doesn’t seem to be greedy with his positive fortune.
And with him reacting to Qrow joking with him in the manor, that was honestly delightful. Not just because it’s someone else who can theoretically understand how their semblances impact their lives, but it’s Qrow giving just as good as he’s gotten from Clover’s jokes or comments. I think it makes more of an impact on Clover than we were shown. Anyone can say good luck and mean it, but Qrow says it and it’s different. Because they’re both aware of the man’s relationship with good luck, and I think that’s why Clover’s so amused there, why he brightens. Almost like he’s proud? I guess I just like the thought that they can learn something from one another, that the world can still surprise them at their ages.
I adore the mentor conversation. Qrow seems to internalize his doubts and grievances, so it was nice to have it spoken aloud (especially since he couldn’t exactly go back to drinking away those feelings, and the fact he admitted that so easily also warms me.) And while the amount of time they’ve known each other is a mystery, it’s nice to see Clover had a good enough read on him to tell him that Qrow’s doing a fine job despite everything going against him. Bad luck semblance or not, I like to imagine that the kids are lucky to have Qrow with them, despite the ups and downs that happened during the journey. Especially with Qrow working on improving himself and making amends, however slow going they may be, having his expertise is just as important an asset as his company. With how that relates to Clover, him telling Qrow he’s lucky in that sense when others aren’t struck me as Clover not being so fortunate to have someone to guide him. I don’t know if it was the tone of voice or the flow of the scene, but it sounded something close to loneliness. An accepted loneliness, sure, but I wonder about it.
I like to think Clover definitely has moments of where he questions if something happened due to his luck or because of the effort put in, or whatever other factors involved. It’d probably be hard not to, even if it ends up in a positive outcome. It’d probably lend itself to some paranoia or maybe even a sense of depression, which I think helps in how he seems to understand some of where Qrow’s coming from. To Qrow, it’d probably seem close to a slap in the face to hear that having constant good luck could be a bad thing, but I think there is some merit in positives and negatives being on both sides of their coin. In regards to his outlook, there’s some merit there in settling into one’s situation and having it be the only thing you’ve known, especially if it isn’t necessarily challenged. I like to think his cockiness stems from knowing his fortune, knowing his limits, and knowing that he’s an esteemed importance to those he serves. I like to think he’s earned it simply because it never sounded like it came from a bad place, or a place where he was on a pedestal looking down. Granted that’s just my interpretation but Clover is definitely a character I’ve enjoyed seeing people interpert differently. The creativity is inspiring.
Well, um, I hope this suffices? I have to say, I’m a bit curious as to why you came to me with these, but I’m not ungrateful. It’s been really nice, and hopefully someone enjoys these rambles. Feel free to talk with me anytime, on anon or otherwise - and thank you, again.
