Pooja
16 years.
The date was displayed with vivid eloquence by the woody beige cubes that adorned the desk, posing a match with the minimalism of the room.
It was a preposterous fact.
Glassy ambers switched perspective in a progressive motion, and they interpreted the solitary shine of the table lamp on the transparent surface.
Four glowing smiles, two tiny toddlers sat on their parents' lap.
It does not feel surreal. Neither a tale of a bygone era.
It was not her past. It was her present, her life's gears were turned by this very photograph.
Her bracelet adorned hand held it close to her heart, which beat in a meteoric rhythm.
The cacophonous tunes from the fiesta painfully pierced through her reverie, cajoling her to close the mahogany doors that lead to her cocoon.
The flamboyant kantha stitched lehenga proved to be burdensome to carry.
With ponderous steps, Pooja settled down on the couch, pulling her feet to herself.
She wanted to be ten again. Not eleven.
Terminate the time when she could be that blithe girl, rolling dices with her mother.
But there was a specific reason why the reminisces came back stronger than any usual day.
Somewhere in the remote land, in a cholera-stricken district, a summery blue-eyed man spent his days in seclusion.
And occupied the chambers of her cerebral hemispheres.
What was the pain of being left alone with only emotions as a companion without as much as a message?
She wiped her cheek, only to discover the black of her eyeliner now adorning her fingers.
She had been crying.
When? She could not feel the tears that left smokey meanders on the map of her face.
The heartbreak and the circumstances had numbed her feelings. All she wanted was an embrace.
Why did his peach lips mark her as his if this was the end in sight?
She refused to accept it. The end.
She placed her foot down, not feeling the pierce of a pin fallen down against her skin.
Drops of scarlet marked her track as she retouched the smear of her face.
Time to go and socialize.
Ethan
Of everything to look at in the shiny cellular, his eyes now traced the pristine form of the lady who now inhabited every one of his senses.
The comely picture made her look ravishing and the adamant neurons started pulling out manila folders with her memories kept in them.
No. He cannot.
The fiery golden liquid disappeared faster than it had been poured.
He had found himself on the crossroad of whether to type out the words that played in a loop in his mind or not.
I miss you!
He always chose the latter.
He had already given her a false hope.
Of a future of them.
He did not want to do it again.
Only now he realizes that it was a hope he had given himself as well when he first took that sacred form of hers into his arms.
And that he ran away. Like a coward.
Ethan Ramsey the coward.
Who could not fight for them.
Who could not fight for her.
Who could not fight for Lo-
No.
He did not let the word complete. The very thought was dangerous.
Throwing the classy cylinder he had been holding with a deathly grip, he poured the last bit of that glass bottle in him.
And walked over hurriedly, the tiny glass pieces stabbing him, to again begin the reset.
One which would never complete.

Next Day
Pooja
The ethereal moon spread out the beams of serenity all over the ceremonious night.
It was a lively affair. Merrymaking and cultural programs went on, as she stood amidst the cheery atmosphere with a sombre expression.
In front of Pooja, was the masterfully sculpted idol of the Mother Goddess, standing majestically as the centrepiece of the celebration. She was the epitome of power, the Mahisasura Mardini.
The recollections of an unforgettable past come as paper-planes drifting in a gentle air, carrying the playfulness, a child's happy smiles. A time when her mother would take Pooja to the mythological lands through her words, and they would get lost like flying butterflies in fairytale land.
The tunes of Bengali music float in the gentle air, and she hums along. The first song her mom had taught her, also for a Durga Puja function. Her mom was deeply rooted in all of them, the culture of Bengal kept alive by her. She was the reason why Pooja could become a part of a community she takes pride in.
Even now, so many years later, things don't change. They hold on to these roots like they are holding onto their life, not letting them disappear.
It feels like holding onto her, keeping her alive.
Recreating a small piece of her favourite Kolkata in Bhopal.
But the aura of calm hid like the clouds covering the sun's shine. The piercing pain of heartbreak came back, the wound untreated.
The soft sand of her life's hourglass prickles, solitary grains floating to join their siblings. The wish of them defying gravity and going back to bring the 10th year of her life had never been so strong as it was now.
The heavy jewellery tugged at her ears, letting her know their presence and the styled hair gave her a throbbing headache.
Her tiredness and exhaustion, now fuelling back in her veins refusing to let her bring back that sense of peace she experienced moments ago.
Around her people wore phoney smiles. All they cared about was unimportant Tommy rot. Not a single one of them stepped back from criticizing the others behind their backs.
It was a saga of inflated egos, of constant competition, to make the next person look inferior.
She was tired.
Of people running away, Of abandonment, Of hopes getting dashed.
Why did his thoughts keep coming back? After all, he did make it clear, didn't he?
But did he really succeed? Did his efforts head? Did his heart finally give in to his relentless demand?
Did he really forget her?
All the messages that lay not replied, unheard voicemails, she was sure he had.
But that colour of his he left on her?
The piece of his heart that was protected by her?
Would he be able to forget them?
An earthen lamp flickered in front of her, bud she did no rush to save it.
If it goes out, then let it.
Just like the never-ending load shedding of her life.
But it didn't.
It was a wish, a hope that kept it alive.
The sweet nothings he had whispered to her, the gentle kisses he lined on her forehead.
They had promised her forever.
His being enveloped her, she doubted if it would ever break.
The hope of him & her flickers every now and then, just like the earthen lamp.
But did it go off?
It couldn't.
Because there was no wind strong enough to extinguish it.
The possibility of him and her.
The realization and a blackness hit her at the same time.
And as she fell, her mind held on to only it.
The possibility of him and her.
Ethan
If the Great Thinkers from BCs before were asked if going to a beer garden after spending 2 months in another continent and a 13hr long flight was a sensible thing to do, they would have watched the questioner in bewilderment.
And he agreed. He was not being sensible, not even 1%.
The urge to see her, to gaze at her moonly face, to know that she okay.
It had never been so strong. He felt his mind would give up on him if he could not locate her today.
Not that he had stopped the forgetting process, absolutely not.
It was just a solace, a bandage to the scars he had given himself.
That she would be okay even if he was not there with her.
Focus fixed on keeping his gaze as unhurried as possible, he looked around, putting the well-trained ears and eyes to work.
And then he saw them.
All her friends clustered at a table, merrily clinking beer bottles and sharing happy glances. His eyes pierced into the scene, but he could not locate her.
A step or two brought him close, the desperateness making his heart go crazy.
But the conclusion shattered every bit of sense and calm, dissipated the hope of getting to see here.
She was not here.
His face fell like someone who had lost the thing they hold the closest to their heart.
She, really, was not here.
He really wanted to ask the residents sitting at the table in question, to get some, any, news on her.
But his rational mind still existed, and it was the only thing that stopped him from going haywire.
She was not here.
He took out the notorious cuboid chiming in his pocket, full of satirical typed phrases his cerebrum refused to decrypt.
But it was adamant to get his attention.
A scoff escaped like a habit.
As if anyone could be powerful enough to take his attention away from her.
He was caught in a maze of her memories, his time in the continent thousands of kilometres away and the ghoul of feelings chasing him deeper into it, making him yearn for her solace, the moistness of a forlorn kiss on his forehead, the gentle swipe of a thumb to take his tears away.
His way was lost in there, every turn making him end up more challenged. But even if he did not want to, he had to find the way out.
His soul was like a thorn who could only hurt the tender flower that she was.
What he did not realize was that she was a rose, her being was amidst thorns.
She had the power to beautify them.
The click of the turn-on sound, brought him back to the piece of work his fingers were creating on the light emanating screen.
And in seconds that passed too fast, he saw his heart's treasure,
She was here.
Not in footsteps & whispers.
She was here.
Not in touches and kisses.
She was here.
Not in muscle and bone.
But in labyrinths of his heart, in filmstrips of his memory, in sensations that made him go wild,
She was here.
(With him forever, she was not the one to leave his side)

PS: I HC the end of 1st year of their residency being in Sept-Oct, which is the time of Durga Puja in India. And since Poo is half Bengali, and she never misses any tradition involving her mom's side of the fam, so she would not have been at Boston then. (Or take it as an excuse to increase angst potential) Anyway, Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have a great day ahead! Love, Manamee🧡.

Attack
Working on description here
Ethan snatched the box of tissues from the coffee table and collapsed on the couch with a sigh. The onset of spring with its blossoming trees and rocketing pollen counts was the cause of his present agony.
Closing his eyes, he let out a long sigh and lay there, listening to the hum of the air purifier, a sound that frequently faded into the background for him, and one that Tim complained about at night. Today, he had never been more grateful for its whir.
He blinked his eyes rapidly, trying to alleviate the itching. It seemed as though there were a thousand fine grains of sand penetrating his blue eyes. He didn’t need a mirror to know how red they were; the copious amount of watering had him clued in. ‘You’d think the watering would wash them out.’ He grumbled, fighting the irresistible urge to rub at them. The scratch-itch cycle was one thing that had resonated with him from nursing school, and it was a phenomena he had experienced time and time again.
The prickling in his nose intensified, itchy and tickly. He felt it twitch involuntarily before he was curled forward as the sneeze burst from him. He tried to pull his elbow up in time, but the sneeze escaped freely uncovered, and he could only watch the spray mist the sofa.
A loud sniffle, and he yanked a tissue from the box to blow his nose, filling the tissue with clear liquid, feeling the dampness as it soaked through. Rubbing his hand on his dark blue scrubs, he groaned softly, depositing the tissue on the coffee table. His nose still burned with sneezes yet to come.
Desperate for a distraction, he switched on the TV. Sports. Tim must have been watching as he waited for Freddie to pick him up to go biking. He moved to change the channel, dropping the remote, cursing as it slipped under the couch. Sports it was. The last thing he needed at this moment was a nose full of dust. The tingling in his nose was nearly painful just thinking about it, leading his eyes to prick with tears.
A second forceful sneeze ripped through him, scraping his itching throat. He flopped back down as his body relaxed, and wiped his nose with the back of his hand, grimacing at the sliminess.
“Bless you.” He heard as he grabbed a tissue and mopped up his nose. A wet blow that sounded as slimy as it felt, and he poked his head up.
“Hi.” His voice sounded thick with congestion.
Tim stayed in the kitchen. “You…damn, you look miserable.” Tim took in Ethan’s bloodshot, watery eyes, raw, dripping nose. “I’m gonna shower.” He cleared his throat. “We went up into the hills. You’re probably allergic to me right now.”
Ethan’s response was to press a handful of tissues to his nose, barely muffling a third violent sneeze that left his head spinning.
“Bless you.” Tim called, walking down the hall.
“Save it for the end.” Ethan called back, deep notes of congestion evident as he spoke.
He quickly rendered his wad of tissues useless with another blow, and prepped himself with another set in anticipation of the next sneeze. They were coming quicker now; the attack he’d held at bay for the last hour had arrived with a vengeance.
He heard the stream shower running down the hall, letting out a wistful sigh. A shower would feel amazing, relieve the toxic feeling in his eyes, wash off any pollen that had attached to him in his walks from car to building and building to car. He didn’t dare at the moment, not with these sneezes; he’d be lucky to not maim himself, let alone maintain his balance.
Another sneeze. They were moving closer together as the attack settled in. He could feel it taking root; the burning urge was constant now, unrelieved by each sneeze and all he could do was wait for the next one. He loathed his sneeze pattern at this moment; always so spaced out, even during the worst attacks, there was always an agonizing space between.
T.S. Eliot was right, he thought, bitterly. April truly was the cruelest month. May was an improvement, but he wouldn’t feel good until June came calling.
Swiping at his eyes, he turned his focus to the television, blurred by allergic tears. Sports couldn’t move his focus from his misery as he sneezed three times over five minutes, each one jerking him forward viciously. He rubbed his neck with the tissue-less hand, trying to ease the aching from the dozens of sneezes he had already endured today, knowing it was not over.
The sneezes kept piling on, every minute or so. He was vaguely aware of the shower shutting off and Tim’s singing as he got dressed between sneezes and moments of desperate, burning agony between sneezes as hot tears leaked onto his cheekbones. He swiped at his eyes again and attempted another noseblow to quell the stinging tickle, only to be rewarded with another powerful, spasming sneeze. His eyes itched relentlessly, hell, even his face itched; remembering itch-scratch, he willed his hands to stay at his sides unless he was tending to his nose.
He was unaware of time, how long it lasted before the sneezing slowed down again, the intensity if the itching lessened. His nose no longer felt as if it were on fire, and blowing no longer fanned the flames. He was vaguely aware of Tim joining him, mid fit, sitting silently in the chair, waiting.
A final, sneeze, louder than the rest, erupted from him, folding him double on the couch. Two, four, six, wet, crackly nose blows later and he righted himself, wiping his eyes with a fresh tissue. He offered Tim a weak attempt at a smile.
“Bless you.” Tim’s voice was gentle, as he slipped in next to him. “That sounded miserable. I could hear you in the shower.”
Ethan nodded, eyes and nose still dripping. He accepted the new box of tissues from Tim, setting them on the table. “Rough day.” He looked over at Tim, hair still wet from his shower, red ringlets forming on his hairline. “Next time you’re not covered in pollen, maybe I’ll join you.” Came his comment as he rested his head on Tim’s shoulder.

frENEMIES, pt. 7 {Quarterback AU}
Tumblr media
Summary: Three years later and Grayson finds out about the book.
Warnings: angst
Part one
"Timing sucks. Sometimes we meet the best people at the worst possible time in our lives and no matter how hard you try to fit them into your world, they just can't be molded into what would suit your plans and ideas of the future. Some are scared by how much they care about that person that they would switch up their routine or plans for the future, others simply give up because it is too much work and they're just exhausted of always being disappointed in an untimely love. We think - oh, if it was only earlier/later and we would have worked out - but that's just not true. Timing is an invariable third party in all our relationships and it's a bitch...if we let it. Truth be told, we're only using it as an excuse - the people we meet at the wrong time are simply the wrong people. You won't meet the right person at the wrong time because the right person is timeless. The right person makes you want to change the plans you had that made timing an issue - to uproot your entire life and make a mess of it, yet you wouldn't care...When the person is right, there is no timing nor regrets concerning what you did to make those problems go away, there's only hope of a beautiful future where that person becomes a constant nothing can erase.
I had told myself timing was an issue, that his reputation was an issue. I told myself so many stories that painted him as a villain that would break my heart and walk away, but wasn't I the villain all along? Maybe, maybe not. The bitter truth is: I never made an effort to know his side of the story, and I blamed him for it. You can be the judge of that for this book will also show my best and worst days of loving a man who had many flaws, but his biggest one was ever caring for me.
Quarterback? Are you listening? Because this is what us being frENEMIES really meant to me."
Grayson couldn't breathe, his heart pounding too fast and too hard for his lungs to follow, his airway constricting as if a hand had wrapped around his neck and pressed down on his throat.
He couldn't breathe, not after hearing her voice for the first time in three years and not after she had addressed him personally.
It took him so long to get her out of his head and even longer to get her out of his heart. Every day was torture and he had reflected on their past and all the ways he could have made her stay, but it wasn't meant to be and he knew that...at least he told himself that.
But she left with a cowardly goodbye written with words he struggled to read as his vision blurred and his body tensed as the thought of losing her truly tore into him.
It was him who ran to he room only to find it empty and it was him who tried every possible way of contacting her but no one knew how to...not even Amina. It was him who sobbed into his pillow so many nights, certain he gambled his chance at true love because he let his fragile ego get hurt so fast that he gave up.
So why now?
"ETHAN?!" Grayson thundered as he still fought for an even breathing rhythm and a sound mind, standing up to find his inhaler, using it to ease up the pressure inside his chest while Ethan thumped around on his way over.
"Dude, I was about to get lucky, why are you cock-blocking me?" Ethan grumbled, zipping his pants up as he got out of the bathroom and the flight attendant followed him out, wiping her smudged lipstick from under his lips shamelessly.
"Why did you give me this? Bro, how do you even know it exists?!" Grasping at the ends of his now shorter hair, Grayson shook his head before falling back in his seat, sweat starting to soak his shirt.
"My Wednesday hookup had the book on her nightstand and when I was sneaking out I saw Y/N's photo and did some research. I thought you might want to read it because -", and before he had a chance to finish his explanation, Grayson's temper finished it for him.
"BECAUSE IT'S ABOUT ME?" Chuckling dryly, Grayson bared his teeth like a wounded animal before shaking his head vehemently. "I don’t think I can read this and not...like, lose my shit. I was doing fine! She's been gone for three years now and I was perfectly happy without her!" Convincing himself more than Ethan, Grayson had crumbled and his brother could tell.
Y/N was always a touchy subject and while Grayson refused to talk to her, Ethan could sense she remained his greatest regret and in a way, he felt guilty too. Guilty for not being openly human with her from the start, for not trying to clear the air before and even for spending half the time thinking she’s crazy...but Grayson never saw her being crazy as an insult - to him, all the best people have a little crazy and they make life interesting and worth living. People like Y/N change the world and they never even know it.
"Hey. It's okay not to be fine and over her. You had a lot of emotions tied to that girl and she never really gave you closure...but this book is your closure. I read it and it's...a lot to take in. But I know it's hard. Closure or no closure, it's hard to lose a person you love." With a tinge of sadness, Ethan looks away and his hands fold together like he's hurting too. Ethan and Amina broke up within six months after college due to distance and he was heartbroken for a while, especially when Amina married someone else in a little over a year after.
"I really think you should hear it...and straight from her mouth. This audio version is really...like you're talking to her? It's proper closure. Because you and I both know you never moved on from her." Sniffling, Ethan ran a hand through his hair before raising an eyebrow to what he knew Grayson would say, defensive as ever.
"That's been over for years. We were never even a thing, so no, I don't need to hear what she had written in that book because she probably dragged me the whole fucking time and I've had enough of her hate for a lifetime." Unplugging his headphones, Grayson leaned back in his seat with his arms crossed and Ethan knew just what to use to make him shut up and listen.
"Is that why you carry her note in your wallet everywhere you go? Or why her photo is hidden in your nightstand? Stop being a proud idiot and listen to what she has to say. The names are changed, but you'll know who she's talking about." Shrugging, Ethan grabbed his phone as if to say Grayson can do whatever he wants to but his stance would not change.
The book gave Ethan a good laugh but it also hurt him to look back at a past he had left behind. And it really hurt how everyone was so blind back then that Y/N and Grayson would have made it if they had Ethan and Amina's support and he would always feel guilty about letting his bro down.
"I barely got through the prologue. How am I supposed to finish this?" Grayson admits silently, terrified of what he might uncover when he dives into that book.
Would he find her blaming him?
Maybe even the truth of how she felt about him?
Would he like what he hears?
"You'll finish it because you care and it will be hard but...Would it motivate you if I said she's in New York this weekend too and I know when and where you can see her?"
Some wounds never heal and bleed at the slightest reminders and Grayson's heart was surely a poorly stapled wound as in that moment it no longer held, bursting open at the seams as a river of blood gushed once more.
Still, his mouth let no scream of his inner hurt pass his lips, only determination sounding when he locked eyes with his brother and decided this time he wouldn't be a coward. This time he wouldn’t let her walk away.
"Yes. I want to see her."

A Not So Blue Christmas
Book: Open Heart
Pairing: Bryce x MC (Kayla)
Word Count: 2925
This is my contribution to the 12 Days of Fictmas- 2019 edition and true to form, I am posting this at the literal eleventh hour. I was assigned “Blue Christmas” by the late and great Elvis Aaron Presley (may he rest in peace). Big thank you to @leelee10898 for hosting this event and wrangling us all and to @darley1101 for creating the awesome moodboard you see below. I hope you like it and happy holidays!
Tumblr media
A Not So Blue Christmas
When Kayla matched at Edenbrook, some 980 miles from her hometown of Chicago, she knew there would be things she would miss out on. Her proud Irish family was huge and freakishly close; three brothers and one sister with Kayla smack in the middle, five aunts, three uncles, twenty-six first cousins and an absolute lunatic of a grandmother to round it all out. And that was just on her dad’s side. Birthdays, holidays, graduations, anniversaries; they were spent together whether you wanted to be there or not. Going away to college had been a blessing. For the first time, Kayla got to be seen as her own person instead of Sean and Connor’s little sister but she would be lying if she said she didn’t miss her family. The last time she saw them was back in June when she took Bryce home to meet everyone. Well, almost everyone. No one should have to be subjected to the entire clan on the first meeting, no matter how confident and easy-going her boyfriend was.
It was worth it though. She’d wanted to be a doctor for as long as she could remember and working with Ethan Freaking Ramsey on the diagnostics team was a dream come true. Her career fed her constant thirst for knowledge and allowed her to help people so she didn’t mind not being there for every little thing her family deigned worthy of celebration. Christmas was different. Christmas in the Donovan house was a huge deal.
The house would be so full it was fit to burst, food, candy, and cookies as far as the eye could see. Her oldest brother Sean and his wife Meghan sniping and snarking at each other, everyone spoiling the hell out of her niece because she was the first child, seeing what new bimbo was Connor’s latest flavor of the week because he was too stupid and too much of a playboy to find a nice girl, Gran handing out shots of whiskey and hitting on any poor soul whose only mistake was dating or marrying one of the Donovan girls; she’d had a field day with Bryce. Her dad and uncles escaping to the garage or basement, betting on how long after dinner it would take her mom to throw in the towel and switch from wine to liquor; Kayla was going to miss it all.
But Boston provided joys of its own; a group of friends she considered family that included the most supportive boyfriend the world had ever seen. Working as much as they did with no way in hell of getting off on a holiday meant none of them would be going home but that didn’t mean they would spend Christmas alone. Luckily, their apartment was spacious enough to house everyone for the open house party she and her roommates planned, though Kayla wondered why hosting always fell to them. Ethan had an even better apartment and you didn’t see him inviting anyone over. Rude.
“And, voila!” Kayla exclaimed from her post at the kitchen island. The cheese tray she put together looked damn good if she said so herself. Cheese ball in the middle with alternating yellow and white cheeses surrounding it in a pinwheel pattern. Yep, damn good indeed. “Sienna, where do you want the cheese tray?”
“Umm…” Sienna didn’t look up, too preoccupied with arranging upside-down raspberries on top of the chocolate ganache cake she made. “The banquet table by the window maybe? There’s more room for people to mill around over there.”
Kayla looked around, finding only empty space near the windows. “Banquet table?”
Glancing up, Sienna shook her head and went back to the raspberries. “Bryce!”
“Yo!” he called out.
“Where’s that banquet table you said you’d set up?”
“Oh, shit,” he laughed before bringing the table in from the living room where he and Elijah had been fiddling with the tv for the last half hour. “Sorry, ladies.”
“What are you even doing in there?” Kayla asked as Bryce unfolded the legs and flipped the table right side up.
“Helping Elijah with the surround sound,” he answered simply, taking a folded red tablecloth from the kitchen table and spreading it over the one he just set up.
“Do you really need to be doing that right now?”
Shrugging in response, he sauntered over, gave Kayla a quick peck on the lips while squeezing her ass, then snatched a piece of cheese, popping it in his mouth before going back into the living room.
Minutes later the front door opened with a thump and Jackie’s voice rang out, “Oh, hell no. You two don’t get to do whatever it is you’re doing in here while we do all the work. It’s all hands on deck so get your asses up and help. And before you say it, no, Lahela, I don’t care that you don’t technically live here. God knows you’re here enough it’s like you do. You can start by putting these bags of ice on the balcony.”
Eyebrows raised, Kayla slowly turned to grin at Sienna, finding her covering her laugh with a hand plastered to her mouth. “Remind me to buy Jackie a pony for her birthday.”
“Or a bottle of tequila,” Sienna giggled.
Kayla picked up her glass of red wine, waiting for Sienna to do the same before clinking their glasses together. “Hear. Hear.”
An hour later, people were trickling in. The cold food was moved to the kitchen table and the hot to the banquet table because that’s where the outlets were, the bar was set up, holiday music was playing and Kayla was mingling in a fitted midnight blue dress that was both sexy and elegant.
“I’m loving this party even more than your last one, Donovan.” Zaid’s tone was as dry as ever, expression impassive as he bopped to the beat of ‘Jingle Bell Rock’. “You’ve outdone yourself.”
“Oh, thanks! It was a team effort.” A knock sounded at the door and Kayla excused herself before opening it with a smile.
“Rookie.”
“You came!” Kayla gasped, putting on an air of shock with her hand pressed to her chest. “I never thought I’d see the day!”
“This is for you.” Standing stiffly in the doorway, he thrust a bottle of red wine into her hands. “I know you like red.”
“I do, thanks, Ethan.” Considering how reluctant he looked, she grabbed him by the wrist and tugged him into the room. “Come on, no one’s gonna bite you. Can I get you anything to drink? Bryce is supposed to be playing bartender but he’s fallen in love with my tv.”
A brief look of confusion flashed across Ethan’s face before he shook his head, probably deciding he didn’t care enough to ask. “What do you have?”
Kayla shrugged. “Everything? I can make you a brandy old fashioned or cranberry mule. Those are our signature drinks.”
“Old Fashioneds are generally made with bourbon.”
“Not in the Midwest,” Kayla smirked. “It’s really big in Wisconsin.”
“You’re from Chicago…” Ethan shook his head again. “What’s a ‘cranberry mule’?”
“Bryce,” Kayla called out. “What’s in the cranberry mule?”
Bryce’s voice came from by the tv, only now he had the thing turned to the side. “Four ounces ginger beer, four ounces cranberry juice, two ounces rum and the juice of half a lime.” His head popped up, looking at her over the top. “Put that in a shaker then pour over ice and garnish with a slice of lime and some cranberries. Make sure you use a copper mug.”
“Ok, seriously, what are you doing over there?!”
“I’m almost done.” Grinning, Bryce shot her a wink and ducked back down.
Rolling her eyes, Kayla turned back to Ethan. “Don’t ask because I have no idea what he’s doing.”
“I wasn’t going to. I don’t care.”
“Nice,” she stated, raising her eyebrow and pressing her lips into the tiniest pout. “Well? Your drink, Dr. Ramsey?”
“I’ll take Scotch if you have it.”
“Uh… if we do it’s probably not very…” Kayla grimaced, leading Ethan to the bar across the room. “Oh, wait! I think Landry might have left some here.” Reaching her destination, Kayla ducked down and pulled a bottle from the lower shelf. “Ha!” she exclaimed as she stood up. “Score one for the jackass.”
“Babe! Kayla!” Bryce shouted out over the noise. He smiled when she looked over, then his gaze seemed to move past her and he gave a subtle nod. “Can you help me with something quick?”
“Be right there!” she replied as she splashed some Scotch in a glass. She handed it to Ethan and gave him a little push. “Go have fun. Socialize. Be normal.” Ignoring his look of disdain, she moved back into the living room. “What’s up?”
“I need you to sit on the couch,” Bryce instructed, turning the tv back the right way.
“Why?”
“Because I need to make sure the angle is right.”
“Angle for what?”
Bryce’s eyes widened, brows raised to give her a look that said, ‘just do it’.
“Fine.” The couch that had been filled with various guests all night was miraculously empty and Kayla sat down carefully so she didn’t flash everyone with the new lingerie Bryce had given her. That show was for his eyes only. “Are you finally going to tell me what you’ve been up to?”
“Stop asking questions,” Bryce laughed as the conversation around them grew quieter. “Elijah?” The music cut out and the lull in conversations spread through the apartment. “Ok, now push the input button on the tv remote.”
Brow furrowed, Kayla reached for the remote on the coffee table. Whatever he had planned, it seemed like most of the people in attendance were aware of it. If it turned out to be a slideshow of embarrassing photos from throughout the year or a video of her drunk ass singing karaoke, Bryce was a dead man. All eyes on her, Kayla pressed the button and the tv lit up. She screamed, both of her hands flying up to cover her mouth as tears sprang to her eyes. Before her, her family sat crowded together, enough of them they filled all seventy inches of the screen.
Her dad Sean leaned forward, squinting at the camera in front of him. “Is that it? Can she see us now?”
“Oh my god, Dad.” Squished against him, Kayla’s nineteen-year-old sister Brianna rolled her eyes. “Why do you think she’s screaming?”
“Shut up, you’re all ruining it!” Gran scolded from where she was wedged between Kayla’s dad and her brother Owen. “On the count of three… one… two… three…”
“Nollaig Shona, Kayla!” Everyone shouted as they smiled and waved, not exactly in sync but close enough.
“Nollaig Shona, everyone!” Kayla returned the sentiment, smiling and waving back. She looked around the room at her smiling friends and colleagues. “That’s Irish for ‘Merry Christmas’,” she explained. Her lip began to quiver and she looked at Bryce, waving him over as her eyes flooded with tears. “Get over here.” She felt her face crumple and pressed her palm over her lips as her boyfriend finally came over, looking uncharacteristically subdued. Sitting beside her, he slung his arm around her shoulders and she turned toward him, hugging him around his waist as she buried her face in the crook of his neck, trying to choke back her quiet sobs.
“Hey, everybody.” Bryce’s voice was tight as he gently rubbed her back. He cleared his throat and when he spoke again, she could hear the smile in his tone. “Merry Christmas. Thanks for helping me out with all of this.”
The comforting movement of his hand didn’t cease as he continued to chat with her family and when she was sure the tears had stopped flowing, Kayla peeled herself off him. “Well, my make-up is officially ruined,” she laughed, swiping at her cheeks. Sienna appeared out of nowhere and with tears in her eyes, thrust a wad of Kleenex into Kayla’s hands. “Thanks, Sienna.” Kayla did her best to clean the mascara from beneath her eyes then smiled, shaking her head in awe. “I just can’t believe you’re all in front of me right now.” Her eyes watered again.
“That man of yours is more than just a pretty face, Kayla,” her sister-in-law Meghan said.
“And what a face it is,” Gran added, giving the most exaggerated wink possible.
“Oh, don’t I know it, Gran,” Kayla agreed. “Great hair, too.”
“And a body to boot!” Gran slapped her hand on her skinny little knee. “Bet he’s a right stallion in the sack. You young ones get all the action these days.”
“Okay! Enough of that!” her big brother Sean shouted, clamping his hands over his four-year-old daughter’s ears while Kayla’s dad dropped his head in his hand mumbling something Kayla couldn’t make out. If she had to guess, it was ‘Lord in heaven’.
“Sorry, Sean,” Kayla laughed. Her eyes roamed the faces in front of her; her dad, grandma, her sister and two of her brothers, a few aunts, and uncles and some cousins. “Hey, where’s mom and Connor?” Of all her siblings she was closest to Connor, they were best friends on top of being brother and sister and her mom was her biggest cheerleader. No way would they not be a part of Bryce’s surprise.
“Oh, I imagine they’ll be coming in the door any minute now,” her dad said with a twinkle in his eye. “We’ll let you get back to your party, Punkin. Don’t forget to call us now.”
“I won’t, Dad,” Kayla promised. “It was great seeing you guys and I love you all so much!”
“We love you too, Kayla!” they all shouted back, waving again as they said goodbye.
“Now how the hell do I turn this damn thing off…” her dad grumbled, looking down at his remote before the connection ended.
As the music started and the party resumed, Kayla turned to Bryce, who was looking mighty proud of himself. She grabbed a fistful of his sweater and pulled him to her, planting a kiss on his lips. The doorbell rang and she pulled away. “Duty calls but later, you’re mine.”
“I mean, we can just kick everybody out now,” he teased, leaning in for another kiss. She laughed, giving him a swat on the shoulder but he snuck one anyway. “Get the door, babe. I’ll even come with you.”
“Ah, now that your ruse is over you’ll join the festivities?”
“Something like that.” Grabbing her hand, he pulled her to her feet. When they reached the door, he stopped her a few feet away with an arm around her waist then stepped forward to open it himself.
“Shut the fuck up!” Kayla shouted when she saw who was on the other side.
“Kayla Donovan!” her mom Erin scolded. “Such language!”
“And on Christmas too!” her brother Connor added in a mock scandalized voice with his eyes wide and a palm pressed to his forehead.
Her mom laughed, holding her arms out wide. “Surprise!”
The initial shock had worn off and Kayla launched herself into her mother’s arms. “I can’t believe you’re here!” She held tight for a moment, then turned to Connor.
“Brat,” he greeted.
“Jerk.”
Laughing, he grabbed Kayla around the waist and lifted her off her feet, bouncing a few times before setting her back down. “Damn, it’s good to see you, Kay. Bryce,” Connor nodded as Bryce turned away from the warm hug her mom had given him and held out his hand, doing that weird handshake-shoulder clapping thing guys did. “Good to see you again, too. Thanks for inviting us.”
“Let’s get you guys a drink. There’s a ton of people you have to meet.”
Heart full and cheeks sore from smiling, Kayla paraded her mom and brother around the room, introducing them to all of the people who had become so important to her. When Sienna eventually dragged them to the kitchen to eat, Kayla turned to Bryce, smiling up at him as she looped her arms around his neck. “You.”
“Me.” His warm hands slid around her hips, pulling her tighter until they were pressed against his.
“You’re the best boyfriend in the entire world.”
“I know.” An easy smile spread across his cheeks. “Handsome, too.”
“And the smartest, most thoughtful,” Her words were punctuated by quick kisses. “most supportive, sweetest, the best lover, the…”
“Stop, you’re gonna make me blush,” he laughed, then raised his eyebrow as his lips settled into a cocky smirk. “You’re not wrong, though. I am pretty amazing.”
“And so humble,” she laughed with him. Gazing into his eyes, she knew she was exactly where she was supposed to be. Bryce was home, no matter where it was. “Seriously, Bryce, this was… I can’t believe you did all this.”
“I almost didn’t think I would pull it off,” he admitted. “The Portal thing was supposed to be here weeks ago but it got lost somewhere in Ohio and just came today. Then your dad couldn’t get his to work and threatened to throw the thing in the lake, and now today your mom and Connor’s flight was delayed by like four hours. I’m surprised I survived.”
As he spoke, Kayla’s smile grew wider and when he finally stopped talking, she pulled him down to press a slow kiss to his lips. She pulled back, just enough to lock her eyes with his. “I love you.”
“I love you too, baby. Merry Christmas.”

Polaroids // Ethan & Grayson Dolan (Pt. 1)
Summary: Y/N wants what Ethan doesn’t, and Grayson wants what he can’t have, which leads to unforeseen consequences...
Warnings: kind of stalker!reader, not a lot of dialogue - more just backstory
Tumblr media
Polaroids.
She had so many of them. Boxes and boxes, shoved under her bed, hidden from the world.
Any normal person would take one look at her collection and simply think “She’s crazy.” That part was only partially true.
She’d switch them out to put on her wall, lined with white string lights and her treasured photos on clothespins. The snapshots of memories and memories from over the years. Most of them were of one thing. Well, technically two:
The Dolan Twins.
More specifically, Ethan. She liked to flip through her favorites some nights, right before she fell asleep. Her all-time prized photo, though, was his rose one. The beautiful red flower sat between his cupped hands, and she liked to imagine that he was giving it to her.
The trio had quite a bit of history together, having met about 2 or so years ago when they just so happened to be at the same coffee shop she was on her vacation in Australia. No matter how hard the girl tried, she’d never be able to forget the first words he’d ever said to her.
“Wow.” he had said, “You’re, like, from a dream.” That was all she ever wanted, to be someone’s dream girl. Even though he went on to explain that what he meant was he had a dream that they’d meet someone knew today, her heart was telling her that he meant the words in a different way.
The way she wanted them to mean. Now, Y/N was not creepy or strange, at least, that’s what she believes, but when she wants a guy, she won’t outright say it. Instead, she watches (”But not in a creepy way.” she likes to think to herself at night. “Just in a ‘I-have-a-crush-on-you way.”) She waits.
She waits for them to notice her, to realize that she’s the perfect one for them, to finally fall in love with her like she plans. Y/N’s got diaries and journals and notebooks filled with stupid date plans and dreams and crushes, things she’d say to them or wish they’d know.
But they never do. In fact, at 19 years old, Y/N has not had a single lover. She feels used, like they string her along just to watch her fall apart all over again, like she has so many times before. Silly little girl, that Y/N is. Doesn’t she see? Nobody’s ever wanted her. It all lives in her head.
It all lives in the snapshots of her Polaroids, the captured memories, the stolen images, preserved forever. She always promises to take good care of them, and she does. No eating or drinking by them, no touching them when you feel sick or drunk, no letting others touch them. These are what she likes to call her “Picture Rules.”
The photo of Ethan and the rose, her favorite, has its own little box, tucked away in the very, very back of her closet. So, even if anyone finds the other Polaroids, they could never find that one. Her favorite of Grayson, which is the one in the forest’s lake, has its own box, too. It’s just less hidden.
The twins are used to her constant picture-taking. They know that she gets easily attached to people and things. They’re aware that she’s scared they’ll leave her. So they comfort her, keep her close and protected.
Ethan and Grayson are okay with this. As we all know, they’re big guys. Dominant guys. They need someone to take care of. They need to be the rocks, the protectors. Luckily for them, Y/N is there.
Currently, the three were snuggled up on the twins’ couch together, Y/N chucking little pieces of popcorn at Ethan’s face while Grayson tickled her to get her to stop, the movie playing behind them being ignored.
“Gray!” Y/N squealed. “I-I can’t breathe!” a giggle left her lips, which made Gray’s heart explode.
Ethan grinned and threw some peanuts from the container into her hair, laughing when most of them got stuck. “Y/N, you’re such a nut head.” he laughed loudly at his own stupid pun.
The girl rolled her eyes, and, with one last tug, wiggled away from Grayson’s trap. She began to run, making the boy hop up and chase after her. “Come here, you weirdo!” he yelled. Y/N’s laughed chimed from the next room as they played their game.
Ethan whipped out his phone and chuckled at the actions, running around to capture his brother and friends’ movements. Eventually, Gray gave up looking and sauntered back into the living room, breathless, and laid down on the couch.
“Get up, you lazy bum!” Ethan smacked his brother upright in the head before turning back to his device, posting the filmed adventure on his Snapchat story.
“Y/N/N! I give up, come on out!” Grayson screamed into the now-quiet house.
“I don’t trust you!” he heard her quiet speech come from somewhere unknown.
“I promise I won’t chase you!”
“Okay, fine.” she sighed audibly. Grayson’s head poked up from his position to look around for when Y/N came into the room. But when she didn’t appear, he groaned and plopped his head back down.
The girl entered the room a few seconds later, and seeing that Grayson couldn’t know where she was due to his lack of vision, jumped on his back and straddled it.
“Oof.” a low guttural sound emitted from the boy’s chest as she made her landing. “Get offa me.”
“No, but I can give you a back massage?” she said it like a question, awaiting his answer.
He hummed for a second before speaking, “Okay, sure.” he would never admit it, but he loved her back massages, and wished they could last forever.
“Can you give me one after?” Ethan asked from his spot on the chair. “My back hurts from laying sideways for an hour.”
Y/N blushed and shyly smiled. Her crush had never asked for a massage before, and the thought of being so close to him made her heart thump louder and her legs turn to jelly. “Yeah, I can do that.”
After a few more minutes of kneading Gray’s muscles, she climbed off him and went to the next room, where her backpack was.
“Hey!” Ethan called out. “Where’s my spa session?”
“One second!” she called back. “Let me just get my camera.”
She retrieved one of her most prized possessions from her bag and returned to the living room just moments later, putting in a new stack of film to take pictures with, seeing as she was almost out.
When she turned to Grayson, he was close to sleep, looking adorable with face his face mashed into the couch cushions, a hoodie engulfing him as his dark hair stuck out in many places. Perfect.
Y/N steadied her camera, ready to capture the photo. She pressed the shutter button, and a flash of light went off. She stayed still for a second more to make sure she got it, and the picture began to process, the piece of plastic slipping out of the bottom.
The girl plucked it out of the space and waved it around a bit before setting it down on the coffee table, going over to Ethan. “You might want to get on the floor.”
He grinned up at her and nodded, getting up from his spot and laying himself down on the fluffy gray carpeting. Y/N positioned herself so she sat on his back, just as she did with his twin.
“Totally non-sexual.” Y/N thought to herself. “Totally.” She was right, it was non-sexual. But that didn’t stop her from thinking otherwise as she used her hands to loosen his muscles. It was especially hard to think of anything else when he let out a moan at the feeling.
She gulped thickly, and after about 5 minutes, got up from E’s back to check the photo she had taken. It magnificently captured his beautiful face, his hair and everything else. Y/N smiled, noting that her photography had certainly approved over the years.
“Does it look good?” Ethan asked, appearing behind her.
“Yeah.” she breathed. “Another picture for the books.”
That night, after saying her goodbyes, she went through her routine like normal. Wash your face, brush your teeth, set your alarm, read, and then, sleep (Though, “read” was often replaced by “stare at pictures”)
It was what she’d been doing every night for basically the past year. It almost made her excited for nighttime. Though tonight, she didn’t want to sleep. She also didn’t want to wash her hands ever again. As she looked at her favorite twins’ pictures, she lingered on Ethan’s for far too long.
The feeling of her hands moving against his back made her heart sing and soar and she could feel herself getting even a bit aroused at the thought of it. Y/N had engraved the encounter into her mind, hopefully forever. Sure, they had hugged before and Y/N had kissed him on the cheek once or twice, but none of it had been like that.
It felt so right to her. For once, Grayson wasn’t there to interrupt. Well, he was, but he was sleeping, and we all know he’s a real deep sleeper. Y/N’s mind was yelling at her, “He likes you! He likes you!”
But we all know what a silly little girl Y/N is. She’s blind to love and reality. She likes to create images and dreams. It’s just the sort of person she is.
And so we leave her, staring at photos of her favorite boys in the darkness of her room, lonely yet again as she imagines if her life were different. If it were how she wanted it to be.
Now, you may think, “Oh, we’re leaving her? The story’s over? What happened next?” Poor Y/N. You’ll see soon enough, the universe has a strange way of making everything perfectly wrong go perfectly right.
But I can assure you, this adventure has only just begun.

Title: Testing Him - Part 3 Summary: Benji wonders how much longer this blissful torture can possibly go on for.
Benji lay flat on the bed, eyes closed, as Ethan’s hand continued to run over his hair. His heart had calmed down some, but he could not feel fully relaxed, even with the beautiful petting and caressing of his sweat-coated hair.
“Are you ok, Benj?” Ethan asked, his voice holding a much gentler tone at that moment. Gone was the seductive manner of his words, and replaced with a caring one, just emphasising to Benji how much love there was there. No matter how far they took things, no matter what they tried, they both always cared about the other’s comfort.
“Yeah... Yeah, I’m great.” he replied, chuckling low in his throat as he opened up his eyes and smiled at Ethan. “I promise, this... feels fucking amazing...”
“Good.” Ethan’s smile almost blinded Benji with love and he leaned down to press a kiss to the younger man’s forehead. “Because we’re not done yet.” With that, Ethan stood from the bed and moved around to the foot of the bed once more, a spot where Benji had come to love seeing his partner. Lifting his head off the pillow, he watched as Ethan retrieved the little bottle of lube once more, pouring a generous amount onto his fingers. Ethan massaged it against his skin, warming the liquid before he traced his fingertips along Benji’s erection, lightly moving from tip to base, then lightly tickling over his balls, feeling them shifting beneath the touch. He then paused over Benji’s perineum, knowing how sensitive this spot was for his lover, and began to draw gentle circles over the skin there. Hearing a distinct groan of pleasure from the other man, Ethan continued the action, this time switching to use his thumb and adding a little more pressure, rubbing tight little circles against Benji’s sweet spot.
“Ethan...” His name was spoken in a breath, and god how that sound rushed through his body. He was certainly going to need another wank after this, because the sight of Benji spread out for him, aching for release, balls drawn up with the anticipation of whatever climax might come for him... That was enough to have him leaking. But for now, he had work to do.
“Tell me how you feel Benj.” he whispered, continuing to massage Benji’s perineum with his thumb, before leaning down and licking at the younger man’s slit with a quick lap of his tongue.
“Ah! Oh, fuck, I feel amazing, Ethan... So good. Please do that again...”
“Do what? This?” With that, Ethan parted his lips and took just the head of Benji’s cock into his mouth, sucking as though it were a sweet (to him, it was).
“Yes, Ethan! Oh, yes, that...” Benji’s back arched off the bed, but Ethan pulled away, leaving Benji’s hardness dropping back to his abdomen. Placing a little more lube onto his fingers, he brought a single one to Benji’s hole and circled it, carefully breaching the pucker with a shallow motion.
“How about this?”
“Mmhmm...” Benji’s head nodded up and down and it seemed that he was trying to open his legs even further as he keened towards the touch. So Ethan obliged, pressing his index finger in further, each knuckle passing the tight ring of muscle being accompanied by a loud moan from his gorgeous partner. Once he had pushed in as far as he could, he pulled out almost to the tip of his nail, only to re-enter once more. He thrust his finger into Benji at an agonisingly slow pace, his green eyes never leaving Benji’s face as he watched for every stunning expression that crossed those features. When he felt that Benji was ready, he slid his middle finger alongside his index, and pushed the two into his lover’s eager hole, stretching him open further. “Oh god, please, Ethan... More. Can take more...”
“I know you can, baby... But this is my pace, remember? Who’s in control tonight?”
“Y-you are...”
“Good. Now just feel it.” With a smirk, Ethan thrust his two fingers in and out, in and out, picking up the speed just a touch while being very careful to not nudge Benji’s prostate. Too much stimulation now could ruin everything he was building up for. Before long, Ethan had a third finger in Benji’s hole, feeling him clench around him, and his lips were wrapped around Benji’s balls, sucking each one into his mouth and teasing with his tongue. He observed the way his lover’s cock was twitching, the way precum leaked from the slit, and knowing that he had caused this, that he had complete control over Benji’s pleasure and release... It gave Ethan a thrill.
Very carefully, he opted to give Benji’s prostate the tiniest of taps, and he almost moaned at the way Benji’s face contorted into the perfect picture of ecstasy.
“Oh, you liked that, didn’t you, Benj...” Ethan didn’t even try to hide the pride on his face as he saw the other man nodding frantically. So he pushed that button once more, only to then immediately pull all three fingers from Benji’s hole, leaving his partner gasping and whining. The sounds of disappointment were quickly replaced, however, with more sounds of joy when Ethan’s fingers were replaced with that talented tongue. Too much stimulation right now could send Benji over the edge, he was ready to fall at any moment, so he needed to change his tactics without preventing the constant onslaught of pleasure. And judging from the way Benji was writhing on the bed as his tongue pushed into his hole, lapping at him and teasing him, Ethan had a feeling that he was walking that fine line perfectly.
“Talk to me, Benji... Tell me how it feels. I want you to tell me.”
“It feels incredible... Incredible, Ethan, please don’t stop... Don’t- oh yes...” The way Benji’s mouth was running without any real assistance of his brain made Ethan pleased, reducing his intelligent and composed boyfriend to nothing but moans and babbling was a goal of his. He licked up from Benji’s hole to his perineum once more, before licking a single stripe up his cock... Only to pull away entirely.
“Christ, Ethan... Please-”
“No, Benji. You wait here. I have some... matters I need to deal with.” Ethan spoke firmly, calmly... no one would have known that he had just been pleasuring his partner to within an inch of his life. It was impressive, and as Ethan wiped his mouth on the back of his hand, Benji stared up in shock. “I have to make a phone call, and then I’ll be back. In the meantime...” Benji watched in near horror as Ethan grabbed the vibrator once more, feeling the rounded tip pressing into his entrance and drawing a low moan from him. He pushed it inside of Benji just enough so that it would not slide out, but not far enough in to reach that precious bundle of nerves... and then he switched it onto its lowest setting.
“Oh shit-”
“That’s it, Benji... Now, you stay there, and I’ll be back soon. And if you’re good... if you don’t let yourself cum, I promise, you’ll enjoy what happens next.” With that, Ethan threw a wink in his lover’s direction and left the room.

Atonic Impact (Chris x MC)
[A little note: Instead of sleeping and being productive I’ve finished another Chris x MC fanfic. This ones comes from a kissing request from this prompt list. Thanks so much for requesting this one anon! It’s a little sneak peek into their waay into the future. As a heads up - there’s suggestive dialogue in here. I always feel like fluffy fics are a hit or miss for me but hopefully you’ll enjoy this!]
[Summary: After more than a decade of being together, MC (Micah) and Chris have finally reached a slight dilemma. Waking up day in and after day out, with two kids and constant schedule changes - even super parents need a break].
[Word Count: 2314]
10. Quick, Goodbye Kiss - It’s the almost late for work kisses when their lips just peck yours, like an unfinished goodbye.
Tumblr media
Micah’s going to be late for work again.
Somehow during her nearly sleepy stupor, she’s switched the snooze button far too many times for her to keep count, and can no longer consider it reasonable to stay in bed.
She yawns and stretches before she glances at her phone. She does a double-take once she realizes the time.
Shoot, it was way worse than she thought. She definitely needed to be up more than two hours ago.
Sighing, she swings her willowy legs over to her side of the bed. It slightly creaks under the sudden shift of weight as she gets on her feet. She pads across the bedroom, armed with only intent to finding her robe and waking the rest of the house as her motivations to prevent herself from falling back asleep.
Rubbing one eye, she strides towards the adjoining bathroom. Before she’s able to push the door open, she pauses in her step as her ears catches the sound of his voice. Barely higher than whisper, she hears his low timbre coming just across the other side of their door. As she strains to listen, she recognizes stray lyrics from the Disney movie they’ve watched with the kids last night.
Grinning to herself, she enters quickly and her stomach dips in delight when she catches sight of him. The steam and droplets from their shower-head affixed close-by their tub does little to hide his powerful body. Once her eyes travel across the smooth planes of his back and lower - she’s more than tempted to strip off her underwear and join him.
She scowls at herself; she’s supposed to have more willpower than this. Focus girl focus. But it never gets old, she’s never tired of Chris. It’s never been that way for them.  Sometimes, she can barely believe it’s been a little over a decade since the first time they bumped into each other during their freshman year at Hartfeld.
It feels like a lifetime ago. For another her. And another him.
Yet throughout the years, how they’ve felt for each other never changes. It’s always been easy, natural - safe. And not a day goes by that she doesn’t think about how much she loves him, how much he loves her.
She thinks instead that every passing day she falls a little more in love with him than the day before. He makes her smile. Makes her laugh until it hurts. Makes her feel like the luckiest woman on Earth. Gave her two little children that she’d do anything for.
Biting her lips, she shakes her head clear and focuses on hastily grabbing her robe. Searching for her hairbrush she barely hears the shower’s screen door being opened before she feels him, spooning behind her.
His lean hips press passively into hers and his arms still completely drenched from his shower, encircle her before her skin erupts into goosebumps. “Chris,” a low warning edges from her. But it’s a loss cause almost immediately as his lips finds the side of her throat.
“Yes baby?” He trails soft kisses across her neck.
His lips makes it increasingly difficult for her to concentrate on what she’s supposed to be doing. The brush drops from her hand with a clang and almost misses the clutter by the sink. “I’m going to be late,” her voice is almost squeak when his tongue darts out and he suckles her flesh. She tilts her head to the side and grips the back of his head, closing her eyes until his lips finally pause by her ear.
“I know,” he whispers before gently biting down.
Her protest dies quickly and shifts into a soft moan. “God, that feels amazing.” Her hands stretch behind her until she’s able to run her fingers through his wet hair.
“You taste amazing,” he acknowledges with a murmur. Leaning heavily against her, Micah hears the towel drop as his lips travel across her shoulders.
She shivers when he presses soft kisses there. “I find that hard to believe,” she wrinkles her nose. “I haven’t taken a shower and knowing you - you’ve already used up all the hot water.”
“I love the way you smell,” he mutters. “You smell so good.” He inhales deeply for emphasis, “whether you’re wet, sweating or covered in my -” Inhaling again, he sinks his teeth into her shoulders, nibbling gently as he hears her rushed intake of breath. “….But you’re right about the shower thing though.”
“Chris!” Twisting inside his arms, she stares at him indignantly and he laughs. “We talked about this - Ethan and Wyatt goes first.” She frowns, “then me and then you.”
“Sorry,” he tries to look apologetic but Micah has a feeling he’s doing it more so to humor her.
But it’s always been hard to stay mad at him, no matter the problem - she struggles more than anything to and finds it much easier to just give in. Especially when he’s standing almost naked in front of her - like he is right now.
“No one was up when I got back from my run.” He adds, breaking her ogling.
“And you didn’t wake me up?” She tries to scowl, “you know I have a big presentation with the board today.”
“No, but I did something better.” He intercedes, “I made breakfast.” Leaning forward, he kisses her nose. “And the boys are all ready for me to drop them to school actually. Showered and everything. I got them up as soon as I got in.” He kisses her nose a second time, “plus after your third time hitting snooze - I figured you more than deserved a little more rest.”
“So that’s why it stopped ringing.” Instead of feeling upset, a wave of gratitude washes over her and she loops her arms around his neck again. “And you do care about my little project.” She tries to tease him, but her voice comes a little sharper than she intends.
“Little? You’re about to launch a non-profit organization for middle school kids that have never gotten equal opportunity at playing sports than the rest of their peers - I don’t only care, I’m so proud of you.” He smiles down at her.
“Really?” She suddenly feels small. She hadn’t realized how much she needs his approval until now.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t on board at first,” his smile drops and he sighs. “I saw how much time you were putting into it and….” His brows furrows a little until she reaches up to smoothen them.
“And you thought I cared more about this, than I do about our marriage,” She summarizes. At the look of guilt on his face, she shakes her head vehemently. “Honey, nothing’s more important to me than us - than our family. Even if I’ve been wrapped up into planning - you’re always going to be number one.” She smiles at him this time, threading her hands through his hair.
He leans into her touch. “I know, I know. It’s just…” He blows out a breath, “at the time it just felt that way. But I guess it’s silly for me to be jealous over a project,” he replies sheepishly. “And despite that. I am proud, really proud. Seeing how hard you’ve been working at something you love…even with all the hockey and soccer practices with the boys, knowing you still stay up even to put them to sleep every night.” He kisses her forehead, “I think I married a super mom.”
Laughing, she tips up a little on her toes to greet him with a proper good morning kiss. “And I married a super dad.” She responds simply, muttering against his mouth before sneaking another kiss. “You forget that you’re the one that’s been making dinner lately, and -” as she notices his mouth sliding open to protest she adds, “- making sure our weekends are never boring.”
He laughs.
She softens at the sound. “Thank you for always supporting me - even when it hasn’t been easy.” She breathes in his familiar scent and allows his comforting presence to reassure her that she’ll be fine today. No matter what, she knows she’ll be fine to coming back to a warm home filled with a man and children that love her.
No matter how crazy they drive her sometimes.
“If it was always easy, it wouldn’t be worth it.” Chris points out teasingly, then suddenly his eyes turn serious. “I love you, I never said it last night. But, I love you so much.”
Smiling, she brushes some of his wet hair aside. “I love you too. Even when we’re mad at each other, and everything feels like a mess - I’ve always loved you.” She kisses him once, then a second time before she feels his arms wrap around her. “I’ll never stop loving you.”
His arms press lightly until she’s backed up against the bathroom counters. As he deepens the kiss, she feels her world beginning to tilt. “Chris-” She smiles but stops short at the sight of unabashed desire in his eyes.
Wordlessly, he sits her on-top of the counter, and lifts her legs until they wrap around his waist. “How much time do you have left?” His voice has gone a little hoarse. Before she can answer, she feels his hard length brushing possessively between her thighs.
He rocks them back and forth.
Her breath catches. “Not nearly enough time for whatever you’ve got planned in that handsome head of yours.” Except her hands know better than to listen to her words. They fall on deaf ears they began touching his skin. She relishes in the feeling of him flexing under her fingertips.
His eyes bore into hers. “How do you feel about a quickie instead?” Everywhere his eyes and fingers touched, ignites something inside her veins and leaves behind a distinct want to give in. “I only need a few minutes.”
She arches her eyebrows.
“Okay, half an hour.” He pauses. “Maybe.”
“Tempting…” she trails off. She bites her lips at the feeling of his coarse hands slipping past her robe.  They graze her shoulders before delving down further and as a shiver of anticipation fills her, they suddenly hear a voice.
“Mom, dad?”
The sound of Ethan’s shout abruptly freezes them. His voice is thankfully faraway enough for Micah not to worry about him walking in on them but she knows that their time alone together is already over before she finds the willpower to answer. Closing her eyes, Micah calls out first. “Is everything okay, sweetie?”
“Yeah it’s just.” A pause. “I know you told me that Wyatt’s going through a phase and all, but he-he broke my tablet!”
Sighing, her shoulders drop a little before she feels her husband’s forehead pressing there. She peeks down at him nuzzling into her. She can hear the steady breaths he takes to keep himself calm. “Why can’t Wyatt be nicer to his brother?” He mumbles into her skin.
She laughs, “hey he takes after you, not me. After amount of fights you told me you’ve had with Kyle - it’s shocking you two are so close.”
“That was more on his part than mine.” He immediately protests, “besides it’s easier getting along now that we’re all grown up.” He looks away, “…more or less.”
“Still, we should probably go.” Shaking her head, she drops a kiss by his cheek before he straightens up enough for her to stand.
It turns out super parents work are never done.
He drapes his discarded towel casually across his shoulders and her eyes reflexively lingers on him. Shaking her head, she grips his hand tightly into hers. “Let’s go save the morning, shall we?”
Instead of responding, his eyes skim her until he’s raked her with lusty stare. “Do we really have to?”
“Yes.” She knows he’s mostly teasing but when he’s looking at her like that, she wants nothing more than to yank him close and kiss him.
As if reading her mind, he plants another kiss by her lips; except this time it’s over in seconds. Hastily, their lips meet, sliding against one another swiftly. Micah wants to savor this feeling; she knows that it’ll be hours before she’ll be able to see him again. Taste him again. And all too quickly it’s over, as they pull away from each other. Almost like an unfinished goodbye, he runs his thumb over her lips.
“You get ready for work, and I’ll get them ready for school,” He’s half way through the door until he suddenly whirls back and points a finger at her. “But when we’re all home later - it’s just gonna be me and you tonight.
She leans against the counter. “A date night?” She smiles. “We haven’t had one of those in awhile.”
“Exactly, it’s about time we get away - just for a little while before my football season starts again.” He pauses.
Micah can almost see the wheels turning inside his head. “What?”
“You think your brother would mind helping us out on such short notice?” He scratches his chin.
She folds her arms, “hell yeah. Noah still owes us for that mess last Christmas.”
He laughs, “I can’t believe you’re still holding that against him. Poor guy.”
“Poor guy?” She snorts, “More like poor us. I can’t even talk about him without thinking of last year.” She makes a face, “besides, if it’ll get him out of the house and keep the kids busy for awhile…” She trails off and wiggles her eyebrows suggestively at him, “let’s just say I have something delicious up my sleeves, so keep your schedule wide open Powell.”
Back-paddling out of their room, he shoots her a smile. It’s one of his signature weak-in-the-knees smiles that Micah’s fallen in love with from almost the very beginning. “It’s a date.”

The best and worst films of 2018
Tumblr media
If after watching 112 films teaches you anything, it's that Hollywood will continue to pump out the franchise blockbusters - and audiences will still hand over their cash to see them, no matter how below average or unoriginal they may be.
Cinematically, 2018 was a year that marked the final screen appearances for both Robert Redford (’The Old Man and the Gun’) and Daniel Day-Lewis (’Phantom Thread’), heralded Bradley Cooper’s impressive directorial debut (’A Star Is Born), served up an innovative high-tech thriller (’Searching’) and bestowed the most gob-smacking showdown involving MCU’s greatest heroes and villains (’Avengers: Infinity War’).
It was also a very good year for Netflix loyalists who saw the company release a succession of well received films including ’Annihilation,’ ‘Roma,’ and ‘The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.’
Despite Dirty Harry’s memorable comment that “opinions are like assholes, everybody’s got one,” the films that have made this year’s ‘best list’ have been selected on the basis of the lasting impression they have left on this viewer after the lights have come up and the curtain’s been drawn.
So, what succeeded and what failed?
Ladies and gentlemen, may we please offer for your consideration…

10. SWEET COUNTRY
The Australian ‘western’ is a genre all its own, and ‘Sweet Country’ was the finest example of its type. Both Warwick Thornton's direction and Dylan Rivers’ cinematography was outstanding, as were all of the lead acting performances. Shot in both Central and South Australia, ‘Sweet Country’ transcended the genre’s tropes to tell us a quintessentially Australian story, albeit a bloody, brutal and tragic one.
Tumblr media
9. VICE
As with his previous film ‘The Big Short,’ writer/director Adam McKay set aside the clean, colourful look of his comedies (’Anchorman,’ ‘Step Brothers’) in favour of a washed-out, edgy look, with the frequent use of hand-held cameras. The entire ensemble - including Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell and Amy Adams - were all impressive but it was Christian Bale’s skilful and highly effective portrayal of former VP Dick Cheney that deservedly received the kudos from critics everywhere.
Tumblr media
8. THE ENDLESS
Indie filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, wrote, directed and starred in this terrific slow burner about two brothers who decide to revisit their childhood UFO death cult for some closure. Initially, the film’s daunting atmosphere gave the impression that this horror/sci-fi would follow the usual story ‘beats’ that accompany the genre. But after some mind-bending twists, ‘The Endless’ soon switched from being about a crazed cult into something else!
Tumblr media
7. SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE
It’s no secret that Sony’s last few attempts with the character of Spider-Man have been underwhelming to say the least. However, this rousingly entertaining superhero adventure was easily 2018′s most unexpected surprise. The film’s impressive animation was beautiful, fluid and unique, whilst the storyline was both compelling and genuinely funny. What can we say - we finally got the ‘Spider-Man’ movie everybody wanted. It’s OK Sony, we now forgive you for ‘The Emoji Movie.’
Tumblr media
6. THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI
Sadly robbed of the Best Picture gong at last year’s Academy Awards, this third movie from award-winning playwright Martin McDonagh (‘In Bruges,’ ‘Seven Psychopaths’) was a dramedy that started with cleverness and wit before opening up into something truthfully human. McDonagh’s screenplay was so good that every single cast member, no matter how little their screen time, gave a great performance.
Tumblr media
5. AMERICAN ANIMALS
In this true-crime movie, four bright and well-off college students in Kentucky plot to steal some rare books from their university's Special Collections Library in a misguided quest for personal glory. Written and directed by Bart Layton, ‘American Animals’ cleverly woven script was narrated by the heist's actual participants, bringing a fascinating layer to the proceedings as well as a connection between the characters and audience.
Tumblr media
4. AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR
It may have been the most intense, complex and stirring MCU film yet, but it was as lean as epics get, with none of its nearly two-and-a-half-hour running time feeling wasted. While the many characters and intersecting plots may have confused casual viewers (it’s assumed audiences are now familiar with all that's come before), for fans, it was one mind-blowing moment after another.
Tumblr media
3. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT
Who would have thought that a 20+ year franchise would have been able to deliver one of the most exciting and visceral action films in recent memory? ‘Fallout’ saw the stepping up of both the action and the stakes, with the personal screws tightened on Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the horrible consequences for failure. Love him or hate him, Cruise's performance was lean and focused, whilst Christopher MacQuarrie’s direction was effective and thrilling, always hitting every action beat - dead centre.
Tumblr media
2. YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE
Director Lynne Ramsay’s bleak yet effective thriller about a broken and tormented ex-military vigilante (Joaquin Phoenix), who makes a living rescuing kidnapped girls and making the perpetrators violently pay with a hammer, was a dark and twisting journey into one man’s soul. Ramsay's filmmaking powers and script, combined with Phoenix's committed, unadorned performance and Johnny Greenwood's absolutely superb soundtrack, easily delivered one of this year’s most standout movies.
Tumblr media
1. HEREDITARY
Although it polarised audiences everywhere, ‘Hereditary’ was a refreshing example of a studio (A24) subverting expectations and the perfect showcase of what horror is capable of when taken seriously.
Even as the film ventured into territory familiar to its genre, writer/director Ari Aster skillfully orchestrated the tension into something that felt like a nightmare straight from hell. What begins as a drama about a family tearing apart with grief, slowly descends into madness and the supernatural.
Rather than rely on a ‘conveyor belt’ of jump scares strung together with a derivative story which exists purely as a vehicle to deliver those jump scares, ‘Hereditary’ put family drama at the forefront and milked every ounce of dread from the hideous realities of familial cohabitation for what they’re worth.
Whilst the film’s cinematography, production design and score were all some of the best the horror genre has seen, it was the performances that finally sold ‘Hereditary,’ notably Toni Collette’s tormented turn as a manic mother who is mourning the loss of a parent.
‘Hereditary’ didn’t just redefine horror - it successfully put its own wicked stamp on the tropes of the genre, and provided audiences everywhere with a truly unsettling experience.
Hail Paimon!
…AND NOW, THE WORST!
Tumblr media
20. VENOM
19. THE MEG
18. MILE 22
17. WINCHESTER
16. LIFE OF THE PARTY
Tumblr media
15. BLOCKERS
14. SKYSCRAPER
13. THE WEDDING GUEST
12. DEATH WISH
11. BOAR
Tumblr media
10. THE NUN
Sadly, this fifth chapter in the ‘Conjuring’ universe was nowhere near as scary, inspired or coherent as its predecessors. The quick onslaught of jump scares, punctuated by sudden noises on the soundtrack, quickly dashed the hopes of viewers who saw the entire exercise as a colossal waste of time (not to mention that the titular character was almost ‘missing’ in her own movie).
Tumblr media
9. THE PREDATOR
This was a prime example as to how you kill a franchise. ‘The Predator’ was so bad, it made both ‘AVP’ movies look like modern day masterpieces. Whilst the acting and storyline were awful, the film suffered from plot holes, the lack of any kind of script, the constant desperate dramatic music featured relentlessly throughout and the forced jokes. Why director Shane Black thought injecting a comedy script into this franchise was a good idea is anyone's guess.
Tumblr media
8. THE HAPPYTIME MURDERS
Brian Henson, son of the legendary Jim Henson and the director of ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ and ‘Muppet Treasure Island,’ somehow thought this juvenile attempt at humour was a good idea. Instead, it did the most offensive thing that a comedy could ever do - it failed to make you laugh.
Tumblr media
7. THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME
This forgettable and redundant comedy, from its tired title to its forced acting and humour, tried desperately to be everything at once and ended up being nothing at all. Given the talent involved, one would have expected some semblance of subtly and finesse to let these strong performers elevate the material as they've been known to in the past. However, when the material was as blunt as a sledgehammer, there wasn’t much anyone could have done.
Tumblr media
6. GRINGO
Despite its polished production values and stellar cast, ‘Gringo’ amounted to an absolute bust. Director Nash Egerton’s unsavoury and amoral comedy of errors qualified as something contrived, convoluted and ultimately incoherent. Crammed with a myriad of ‘madcap’ situations that weren’t even remotely funny or original, this crappy caper failed to keep up with its talented cast who struggled in their portrayal of such unpleasant stereotypes.
Tumblr media
5. PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING
CGI vomit.
Tumblr media
4. THE 15:17 TO PARIS
Anybody desperately wanting to watch this train wreck should fast forward the first hour and six minutes. Clint Eastwood’s effort to pay tribute to the three brave men who foiled the 2015 Thalys train attack was a cinematic misfire of epic proportions. The bold step of having the real-life heroes play themselves was a bad call (awkward delivery, mumbled lines), whilst the film also had an underlying Christian/pro-gun/pro-military vibe about it.
Tumblr media
3. ROBIN HOOD
From the over-the-top bow and arrow fights to the bizarre mix of costumes, ‘Robin Hood’ was comparable to Guy Ritchie’s disastrous reimagining of ‘King Arthur,’ only worse. Far worse. This umpteenth version of the legendary heroic outlaw was severely lacking in the entertainment and thrills department, and continued the Hollywood tradition of blockbuster remakes absolutely falling on their arses.
Tumblr media
2. ACTION POINT
The ‘Jackass’ films were great, but this dismal wannabe ‘Caddyshack’ or ‘Porky’s’ left audiences longing for the relative artistry and sophistication of the crazy lads’ glory days. ‘Action Point’ was a predictable, exceptionally cheap and humourless affair, a watershed moment in terms of anyone ever bank rolling a feature film for these guys again. RIP gentlemen, it was a fun ride.
Tumblr media
1. HOLMES AND WATSON
It’s all elementary as to which film was by far the very worst of 2018.
Everything about ‘Holmes and Watson’ was lazy, incompetent and decidedly unfunny. This shockingly misguided assault of repetitive bad slapstick and terrible writing squandered the remarkable talents of John C. Reilly, Rebecca Hall, Steve Coogan, Kelly Macdonald, Ralph Fiennes and Hugh Lawrie, and saw Will Ferrell give what was easily the worst performance of his entire career.
This was no ‘Step Brothers’ - this was pure, unadulterated garbage.

The Science Behind Ketogenic Diets, Or Why We Get Fat And What To Do About It – Forbes
Old fashioned charcoal grill with two sirloin steaks and flames cooking to perfectionGetty
The internet is abuzz with anecdotes telling of the amazing benefits of a ketogenic (or “keto”) diet. Nothing new there, then, as every year is marked by the rise and fall of a new diet fad – most amplified by the social media echo-chamber but with little to commend them.
This time, though, it caught my attention.  Not just because I am a modestly overweight 52 year old whose love for food and drink is slightly stronger than my desire to be skinny, and as a result someone who has been on a diet every January for at least 20 years and now knows he needs he miracle.  But because of the science behind it.
For a start, I first began reading about ketogenic diets thanks to Ethan Weiss, M.D., a prominent UCSF cardiologist on Twitter, whose scientific acumen I respect.  If he believes in the benefits of ketosis, then I should definitely look a little closer.  After 20 years of January diets, my own experience suggested that nothing made any difference: you only lost weight if you took in less calories than you used, and if you took in less calories than you used then you were hungry. Simple as that.  Could it be that a ketogenic diet really was different?
Well, the principle makes sense.  Bizarrely named “ketone bodies” are actually molecules that act as the body’s natural back-up fuel supply when glucose is scarce.  Normally, we only enter ketosis (where ketone bodies accumulate in the blood) when we starve ourselves – not just overnight or by missing a meal, but for several days at time.  Our metabolism then switches to fat-burning, and converts stored fat molecules into ketone bodies that can power our muscles and brain because the glucose has run out. Being in ketosis, then, does sound like a great way to burn off the fat.  On the other hand, not eating for days doesn't sound much fun.
But it turns out you don't need to starve yourself to get into ketosis.  All you need to do is remove carbohydrate from the diet (not just refined carbs, such as sucrose or high fructose corn syrup, but all carbs, including complex carbs and starches too).  Once the body has no source of glucose, it has to switch to ketosis because the brain needs either glucose or ketone bodies to survive.  So no matter how much protein or fat you eat, the body still has to break down fat to ketone bodies to keep you going.
A ketogenic diet, then, is any diet that switches your metabolism to ketosis.  And the ones doing the rounds at the moment aren’t the first or the only diets to do that.  It is several decades since the Atkins Diet rose to prominence – and I witnessed first-hand the weight loss some friends achieved on Atkins.  The Atkins diet is a ketogenic diet, because it removes carbs from the diet and replaces them with protein.  The surprising finding was that Atkins followers discovered they were much less hungry than they expected, suggesting that calories from protein made you feel more satisfied for longer.  Feeling fuller translates to willingly eating less, and in the end impressive weight loss.
In dieting, though, there is no such thing as a free lunch (or so I thought).  Adherence to the Atkins diet has side-effects, and most worrying is the impact on nitrogen balance from taking in so much protein. There is a very real risk of dehydration, and over the longer term, kidney stones from the need to excrete so much excess nitrogen as urea.
So what about the 21st century version? Keto today replaces the carbs with fats rather than protein.  A typical Atkins regimen had 75% of calories from protein, 25% from fat and <5% from carbs.  By contrast, today’s keto diets advocate 75% of calories from fat, 25% from protein and <5% from carbs.  As protein intake isn’t changed from a typical “balanced” diet, any side-effects from nitrogen imbalance are neatly side-stepped.
But what about all that fat? Surely that's got to be unhealthy? Well, no. Most instructive are the lipid profiles of Antarctic explorers who have crossed the continent on foot, dragging their own food on sledges.  That's only possible with food that has the highest possible calorie to weight ratio – which means eating essentially nothing but butter.  And after months on an all-butter diet the level of LDL-cholesterol (often called “bad cholesterol”) actually declines significantly.  That isn’t as surprising as it sounds – while in ketosis, fats are being moved from stores towards the liver (where the ketone bodies are made) and that's the job of HDL-cholesterol.  LDL-cholesterol typically moves excess fat from the liver to the stores in the rest of the body (hence in the opposite direction).  So in ketosis, you would expect a lipid profile normally considered healthier (higher HDL and lower LDL) no matter how much fat was being consumed.
But if the benefits of Atkins on weight came from the reduced hunger thanks to the sustaining properties of protein, then you shouldn't get that unless you bulk up the protein component of the diet. It turns out, though, that the reduced hunger results from the state of ketosis itself.  How you achieve it doesn't really matter.
So the science stacks up – theoretically, at least, I couldn't find a flaw in the modern ketogenic diet.  So I gave it a try in place of my usual “low-everything” calorie restricted January diet.
On 1st January, I weighed in at a portly 196lbs, which on my 5’9” frame amounts to a BMI between 29 and 30 (so only a smidgeon under “obese”).  The “Deliciously Keto Cookbook” by Molly Pearl & Kelly Roehl duly arrived from Amazon, and my carb intake immediately fell below 5%.  As I sat eating rib-eye steak for breakfast, topped with chili-butter, along with scrambled eggs and cheese, it was hard to believe I was on any kind of diet.  If, like me, you think food needs to have fat in to taste good then you are going to find keto one easy regimen to follow.
I typically work-out every day for 30minutes, on a Concept 2 indoor rowing machine, and to help the diet along, I increased that to 45minutes, allowing me to row 10km (without leaving the comfort of the gym).  That exercise probably helped rid my body of stored carbohydrate (your liver stores quite a lot of carbohydrate as glycogen, ready for quick release to power your muscles) quicker than normal, and within 48 hours I had achieved Nirvana (well, ketosis anyway).  Using urine dipsticks, my ketone body level was sustained above 6 mmoles/litre, equivalent to a “deep” ketosis.
And there it has stayed for a month, while I enjoyed the delights of burgers topped with brie, jumbo prawn salads with avocado and sour cream dressings and creamy pork stroganoff with zucchini ribbons.  Three fat-laden meals every single day.
First the benefits: once ketosis was well-established three days in, I found I was never hungry.  I had no desire whatsoever to snack between meals (usually a big weakness), and gradually over a month I found myself thinking less and less about food – to the point missing lunch altogether was something that could happen “by accident”.
I also found my concentration and focus dramatically improving.  I had never had so much energy, and productivity went through the roof. Running on the back-up batteries (the ketone bodies) is so much better than fuelling yourself with carbs.  Why was that? Quite simply because the levels never decline (at least for a chubby person like me, with a boundless supply of internal fat stores to burn).  By contrast, when you eat carbs, the excess is immediately squirreled away as fat (for a rainy day) so that blood glucose levels fall a few hours after eating and that triggers the urge to eat again, but also a feeling of declining energy and concentration (that “late afternoon dip” us ‘carbavores’ recognise only too well).
And eating less did indeed translate into impressive weight loss (14lbs gone in under a month), mostly from the unsightly and unhealthy abdominal fat deposits, so my waistline shrunk two notches on my belt too.  That's about twice as much weight-loss as my usual miserable January diet can achieve by making me constantly hungry.
There were even some unexpected benefits I noticed.  For example, the amount of plaque on my teeth reduced to almost zero (presumably because the plaque bacteria need the dietary carbs to feed off).
To be honest, I feel like a teenager again.
What about the downsides? Aside from annoying my friends with constant tales of the benefits of a ketogenic diet (the newly converted are always the noisiest proselytizers), there were only two downsides I could think of.
The first is simply practical.  Keeping carbs below 5% of total calories is a challenge.  You have to check the carbohydrate content of everything that you eat, and you find sneaky carbs hiding in almost everything pre-prepared. Eating out at restaurants becomes a challenge, and as a guest with friends and family almost impossible (unless they are also on a ketogenic diet or are incredibly accommodating).  As a result, planning and preparing food becomes a significantly greater demand on your time and resources than it was before.
On the same lines, you do have to exert accurate portion control too – as the meals, high in fat, have a high calorie density, you can unintentionally eat too many calories.  And even the keto diet can’t break the physical laws of the universe such as the conservation of energy – to lose weight you have to eat less calories than you need.  It just means you feel great while doing it.
The second downside was simpler to avoid – but I had been slow to heed the warnings I had been given. It is hard to get enough fibre while following a ketogenic diet, principally because most natural fibre sources also contain too much available carbohydrate (fibre is typically an insoluble or indigestible carbohydrate polymer, so its unsurprising it naturally co-exists with digestible carbs).  The solution is simple: take a fibre supplement – for me, I need 7 or 8 grams a day – from the first day you switch to a ketogenic diet.
At the end of my experiment, I decided to observe the impact of eating some carbohydrate after almost a month being essentially carb-free.  Just 50g of carbs in one sitting (equivalent to a very small baked potato) immediately killed ketosis.  Within 3 hours, urinary ketone body levels had fallen to essentially undetectable – hunger returned and the “mental fog” started to descend.
Of course, it then took almost 72 hours to re-establish “deep” ketosis after just one (in my case deliberate) moment of weakness.  Three days of feeling a bit rubbish, lacking in energy, because I was denying my body its usual glucose fuel and the back-up batteries, the ketone bodies, were yet to cut in.  Success on a ketogenic diet, therefore, clearly requires the kind of discipline typically associated with a Zen master.
This experiment illustrates very nicely the problem a “balanced” diet causes for the metabolism of a modern human.  Ketosis is slow to establish but very quick to turn off – a phenomenon scientists call hysteresis.  And there are very good evolutionary reasons for this set up: while a good fuel, glucose and other carbohydrates can damage the proteins that make up your cells and tissues.  If glucose levels are allowed to get too high, the damage may be irreparable (as can happen in diabetes).  To avoid that, at least in healthy people, the body makes insulin as soon as blood glucose levels start to rise – and insulin caps the level of glucose in the blood by instructing the liver to convert the excess into fat.  At the same time, however, that insulin turns of ketosis (which is why ketosis ended so quickly after I ate a baked potato). That ensures you are not laying down fat and burning fat at the same time (which would be a highly inefficient use of food resources).
In prehistory, evolution tuned our metabolism so we didn't immediately start tucking in to our fat stores the moment food became scare.  Individuals who did that would find that when a potentially catastrophic food shortage occurred they would have less fat stored and so be the first to succumb. Of course, today, when for most people in developed countries, availability of calories is unlimited this hysteresis that once made us efficient now makes us fat.  Every ounce of excess carbohydrate is stored away as fat, but those stores are not re-accessed as soon as your glucose is depleted.  Instead you are left feeling hungry and lacking in energy for a while – and with fast-food fries within easy reach it’s just too tempting to re-fuel with carbs again.
Ketosis was, once upon a time, key to giving humans a survival advantage.  The science, and my personal experience, suggests it can indeed do the same for individuals today.  If you havent tried it yet, maybe you should.

Hot Docs Film Review: 'Exit Music'
New Post has been published on https://funnythingshere.xyz/hot-docs-film-review-exit-music/
Hot Docs Film Review: 'Exit Music'
The original title for “Exit Music,” changed at the eleventh hour ahead of its world premiere in Hot Docs, was “How Do You Feel About Dying,” and you can see why the switch was made: “Dying” is not, as a rule, a word that packs ’em into the aisles. Yet that initial question, which can be banal or bluntly confrontational depending on the tone in which it is asked, encapsulates the blend of frankness and delicacy that distinguishes Cameron Mullenneaux’s wrenching documentary study of a young cystic fibrosis patient’s final months.
28-year-old Ethan Rice drily answers it himself in the film’s opening minutes: “I feel sad,” he says with ironic languor, poking fun at the one-dimensional solemnity with which stories like his are usually told. The sadness goes without saying, but he feels much else besides: anger, exhaustion and impatience, with bursts of amusement and creative inspiration in between. “Exit Music” covers the spectrum with grace, good humor and no emotional filter: It’s an unabashed tear-jerker that earns its saltwater through candor rather than undue manipulation. An audience favorite at Hot Docs, it should travel the docfest circuit extensively; distribution, particularly through streaming channels, should follow in due course.
More Reviews
A bright, funny, inventive young man who has never been able to move out of his family home in upstate New York, Ethan has known most of his life that he’s going to die sooner rather than later, as the incurable genetic illness with which he was born gradually collapses his respiratory system. If living under that shadow has made him accepting of his fate, it’s also caused him frustration as he’s continued to outlive doctors’ prognoses — which once forecast death in infancy — through the years. Now in his late twenties, in constant pain and with his inability to live independently more pointed in adulthood, is he fighting to live or waiting to die? Ethan distracts himself from such brooding concerns with short-term art projects: He’s a composer and a deft stop-motion animator, and his own witty short films punctuate the documentary as sporadic, vibrant releases from a claustrophobic reality — just as they function in their creator’s own life.
Ethan is blessed with a palliative doctor who understands his existential quandary: “People are living with life-threatening illnesses, but when are they dying?” she asks matter-of-factly. It’s both unsurprising and wholly understandable that his doting parents and full-time carers, Ed and Edith, aren’t able to take quite such a philosophical view of the situation. The closer their son comes to dictating the time and terms of his death, the harder it grows for them to accept its inevitability.
In particular, the struggle for Ed, a PTSD-afflicted Vietnam veteran with an inordinate history of family tragedy, to make peace with yet another unhappy ending becomes a key arc of “Exit Music,” as the film tenderly traces a tangle of familial micro-conflicts born entirely out of love. Shooting discreetly, often on grainy video that compounds the sense of off-the-cuff closeness, Mullenneaux observes the family at such close quarters that it’s occasionally hard to imagine a camera being in the room at all. Some footage, meanwhile, is shot by Ed, and the intensified intimacy of this material is felt.
That “Exit Music,” edited with unfussy, time-tracking economy by Nels Bangerter (“Cameraperson”) and Amy Foote (“The Work”), avoids feeling uncomfortable or exploitative is testament to the evident rapport between the director and her subject, who embraces the film as a chance to leave a larger mark on the world, and to control the shortened narrative of his life — right down to the music and montage choices he requests to mark the end. The film’s closing sequences are every bit as devastating as expected, yet “Exit Music” shoots for some bittersweet hope amid the sadness: that accepting death needn’t always be an act of defeat.

Tumblr media
Each year, there are a ton of game releases, but only a few appeal to the masses. Popularity is an aspect that can be misleading, for a game can be highly flawed, yet been discussed so much (in memes) that it gets famous. But you’re not looking to play a buggy game, now, are you? If you’re a gamer, you’d surely be aware of the huge costs of games for either of the platforms, and you’d obviously want to spend your money wisely. While there may be people that tend to take the road not taken, in the end, you do want to play games that everyone else is playing. Why? Well quite simply because you do want a greater community support, and how else can you share with your friends your achievements if they don’t even know about the game. And lastly, how can we even forget the joys of having a great multiplayer experience. Multiplayer gaming is the sole reason why Battlefield is running great. So, if you have been wondering about the most hyped yet amazing games this year, we bring you 15 most popular games of 2017 you should be playing:
1. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands
Ubisoft Tom Clancy series is one of the most widely acclaimed tactical shooter games. Wildlands comes as the tenth installment in the Ghost Recon series, but it’s the first one to feature an open world environment. The game moves away from the futuristic setting introduced in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and instead feature a setting similar to the original Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon. If you were one of those 6.8 million people that played the beta, you were restricted to only one province; whereas the final game includes more than 20 provinces, some smaller, some larger, all packed with things to do.
Tumblr media
Each province has a boss, and to learn that boss’ identity and draw him/her/them out from hiding you need to complete four to six missions. While the number of characters in the game may be limited, the open world structure of the game allows you to fire up your imagination, go outside, and make your own ridiculous fun. Wildlands’ standard enemies may not be special, but it does a fine job of turning cartel bosses into more than just targets. If you want a game that’ll keep you busy for a while, Wildlands absolutely has your back.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($49.99), XBOX One ($49.05), Windows ($59.99)
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Second, on our list, we have Nintendo’s most ambitious and impressive game to date, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a monumental achievement in game design. It’s big, bold, beautiful, and nearly flawless in its design. Plus, it’s fun, and better than any game that has come out in the past decade of gaming. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild manages to revolutionize the Zelda saga and puts it on another level with the latest addition.
Tumblr media
Gorgeous graphics, miles of open world to explore, a charming soundtrack, beautiful cut-scenes, and a thousand little brilliant touches that make the game feel new every time you pick it up. The world of Hyrule is teaming with life and mystery, all of which are constantly tugging at your curiosity as you roam this magical place. While most games of the current generation are fixed on trying to force a story despite creating an open world environment, Breath of the Wild unleashes you on a huge world and dares you to explore. As a matter of fact, the game has sold even more than the entire sale of the Nintendo Switch console. For me, Breath of the Wild has everything I want from a game and it has given me one of the most rewarding experiences ever.
Buy: Wii U ($58.89), Nintendo Switch ($54.99)
3. Horizon: Zero Dawn
Probably one of the most gorgeous games to ever grace the PlayStation 4, Guerilla Games’ Horizon: Zero Dawn is a refutation of the developer’s nearly 20-year history with the Killzone series. From what was presumed to be the only work that could come from the developer’s end, came this brilliant game that set new records for the entire team. As a matter of fact, Horizon: Zero Dawn is the second-best-selling PlayStation 4 video game with 3.4 million copies sold worldwide.
Tumblr media
Horizon: Zero Dawn can be thought of a Far Cry game set in a post-apocalyptic environment, where the massive skyscrapers and technology of our modern civilization have been abandoned. What humans remain form tribes, hunting with bows and spears and living a life shaped around an earth-based, shamanistic religion. In the game, you take control of Aloy, a talented young huntress cast out from her tribe and desperately seeking answers about where she came from. While the open world environment allows you to drive the story your way, it is the combat that deserves the highest praises. The world’s intricately crafted environments teem with electric beasts and warfaring cultists, and the pronounced excitement of controlling Aloy in the midst of rampaging enemies is a near-constant thrill.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($39.78)
4. Mass Effect: Andromeda
Mass Effect – the series that easily is one of the best offerings from Electronic Arts, has defined the level of intergalactic wars in a video game for a long time. Andromeda is the fourth major entry in the Mass Effect series and the first since 2012’s Mass Effect 3.
Tumblr media
The game begins within the Milky Way Galaxy during the 22nd century, where humanity is planning to populate new home worlds in the Andromeda Galaxy as part of a strategy called the Andromeda Initiative. The player assumes the role of either Scott or Sara Ryder, an inexperienced military recruit who joins the Initiative and wakes up in Andromeda following a 634-year journey.
Even though the game does improve on its combat and visuals, the game’s story writing does tag some mixed reviews. While the developers have tried to set this game apart from the series with clever gameplay, Andromeda just can’t stop itself from retreading some major plot ideas from the original trilogy, including another long-dead civilization that’s left advanced technology lying around. Even though it’s a game that never lived up to the standards of the previous Mass Effect trilogy, Andromeda is still, nonetheless, a game worthy of its praises.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($38.34), XBOX One ($30.00), Windows ($35.72)
5. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Capcom took a rather well-decided turn on its long running and highly acclaimed Resident Evil series, by taking the game to the first-person mode. Inspired by the likes of Outlast, Resident Evil 7 is a first-person survival horror video game, which follows the same trend as its predecessors.
Tumblr media
You play as Ethan Winters, a milquetoast protagonist whose search for his missing wife leads him to the bayou of Louisiana. Once there, Ethan finds himself kidnapped and tortured by a family of murderous cannibals known as the Bakers. With one of the creepiest single settings since the Spencer Mansion and an enticingly bizarre mystery to unravel, this is the most fun you’ll have with a Resident Evil game in years.
While the game quickly became one of the scariest games ever to be played, the developers decided to take things to the next level and even brought out a VR version for the PlayStation VR. Biohazard, in my opinion, is the ultimate love letter to horror fans. Whether it’s horror movies or games, it’s an experience you can’t miss.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($34.99), XBOX One ($34.99), Windows ($34.99)
6. Hitman: The Complete First Season
I don’t think the name “Hitman” needs any introduction, for it is the world’s most famous and loved third-person stealth shooter game series. Probably the best game of the series was Blood Money. Don’t get me wrong here, Hitman: Absolution was great too. But the franchise has been known for the freedom it gives the user to go on with their missions in assassinating the target. It has never been much about the storylines. Absolution, on the other end, was much more of a story driven game, which was great but swayed away from the entire point of the Hitman series.
That all changed back in 2016 when IO Interactive’s new take on the Hitman series was released to the stores. Much like everyone else, what struck me quite peculiar was the fact with how each mission was released as an individual episode. Now, come 2017, Hitman: The Complete First Season was released with all prior content included.
Tumblr media
In Hitman, players take control of Agent 47, a genetically enhanced assassin, traveling to international locations and eliminating contracted targets. Everything fans loved about Blood Money has been replicated, but on a larger scale and with more options. Finally, Hitman is back to being a standalone series of sandbox murder playgrounds. Hitman does have a story, but it’s a tale told in post-mission cutscenes, overheard dialogue, and, later on, specific mission objectives that nonetheless follow the regular template of Blood Money, that the fans have always admired. Throughout its six episodes, Hitman is a well made and entertaining successor to Blood Money and a return to form for the series.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($49.99), XBOX One ($40.99), Windows ($59.99)
7. Tekken 7
The current generation may be fans of the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat series, but the Tekken series is by far the best fighting video game franchise ever made. I remember spending my entire afternoons, playing Tekken 4 on those arcade gaming machines. As a kid, what appealed to me the most was the pure joy that I got from mashing those buttons and beating the crap out of my opponents. Tekken 7, in my opinion, is a love letter to the long-running franchise and its staggering complexity.
Tumblr media
Tekken 7 proves that family grudges are just as hard to kill as the franchise’s resilient characters, who reappear Lazarus-like as soon as they’re needed. The struggles between Heihachi, Kazuya, Jin and everyone else still caught in their webs may start to feel a little tired, but the fighting bits are the best yet. Each fighter has their own unique Rage Arts and Rage Drives, attacks that are accessible when players drop to 25 percent of their health bar and can knock off a third of an opponent’s life. Following along for more than 20 decades, the Tekken franchise has been in the heart of every gamer that has been fond of arcade fighting games, and Tekken 7 takes that emotion to new heights with an improved gameplay, superb graphics and tremendous action that keeps making you say “Just One More Fight”.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($49.99), XBOX One ($49.80), Windows ($42.49)
8. Sniper Elite 4
The Sniper Elite franchise is one of the best sniper games to be ever made. Few shooters pack so much consequence into each copper casing, as the Sniper Elite series does. With the release of Sniper Elite 4, the franchise has clearly taken a few steps forward in the right direction.
Tumblr media
You see, when you refer to the term “sniper”, the word “stealth” isn’t far behind. And neither is “tactical”. Set in the backdrop of World War II, Sniper Elite 4 gives you the means to stalk your enemies, scare them, and utterly dismantle them if you have the patience. Furthermore, in Sniper Elite 4, you don’t have to just take out enemies with a Rambo-style aggression. You have the tools to go full Batman on these guys. That being said, while Sniper Elite delivers options galore, the gameplay doesn’t force you to consider all of them all the time.  For everything sniping related—spotting, positioning, mind games, sound suppression—Sniper Elite 4 is an all-in-one package.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($59.99), XBOX One ($59.99), Windows ($59.99)
9. For Honor
Announced at E3 2015, For Honor is a hack and slash fighting game developed and published by Ubisoft. The game allows players to play the roles of historical forms of soldiers and warriors, including knights, samurai, and vikings within a medieval setting, in a third-person perspective. For Honor’s combat is the kind of brutal melee which players have always wanted, but never actually got to play.
Tumblr media
At the start of the game, you’ll think it’s one of those action-adventure games likes Ryse. And that’s your first and probably the biggest mistake in the game. Its third-person action-game exterior hides a strategically complex fighting game, mixing team-based action with less interesting solo modes, all built on the most flexible and technically complete melee fighting system ever. The players get to choose from multiple classes, and then fight against one another, “for honor”. For me, it feels like a third-person action game with the  “The Art of Battle” (as Ubisoft likes to call it), similar to that of Street Fighter. The game does require you to put in time to better plan your attacks and understand the entire gameplay, but thankfully, the game itself encourages you to play it.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($59.99), XBOX One ($59.99), Windows ($59.99)
10. Nier: Automata
Square Enix is known for pushing the boundaries to traditional concepts of game designing, with purely out-of-the-box thinking, and Nier: Automata is a clear example of that. Designed to be a post-apocalyptic action RPG, Nier: Automata with its intense combat sequences and fluidic gameplay, is much more than just that. It’s safe to say that there are very few games – if any – quite like Nier: Automata.
Tumblr media
The game is set on a ruined Earth, in which the last fragments of humanity are locked in an endless war with a robot army. Controlled by a mysterious alien intelligence, these machines have conquered the planet and driven the survivors to flee to a base on the Moon. From here, in a facility known as the Bunker, mankind wages war on the invaders using machines of their own. Androids are sent to the surface to work with local resistance fighters and battle the machines. The user controls one of these androids, a powerful combat model designated YoRHa No.2 Type B, or 2B for short. Automata’s striking art style and an enormous sense of scale are mesmerizing to look at, and it is one of the most unique and compelling action games to ever grace the gaming universe.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($59.99), Windows ($59.99)
11. Injustice 2
I’d be wrong if I were to say that you ‘finally’ get to decide who would win in a fight of Batman vs. Superman, for there have been games that have allowed you to simulate that for a very long time. But the fact that Injustice 2 allows you not just that, much more than any other DC based fighting game is what sets it apart from the herd. The detailed graphics and an improved fighting gameplay make it a serious contender for one of the most fascinating action-fighter games ever to be made.
Tumblr media
Building on its predecessor, Injustice 2 is a fighting game inspired by the likes of Mortal Kombat (which is also developed by NetherRealm Studios). A much faster, deeper action and a wealth of content make this fighting game feel superb in all ways. Having one of the biggest rosters of the DC Universe, and more to be coming along in the form of DLCs, the cast of heroes of Injustice 2 is exceptional.
The game strikes a fine balance between retaining the strengths of Gods Among Us and making smart changes to improve mechanics. On top of new versions of memorable environmental attacks in which you slam enemies with everything from cars to giant stuffed alligators on the detailed stages, flashy transitions between different areas of the battle locations, and a full arsenal of over-the-top Super Moves. Thanks to NetherRealm, this is the best, most polished, and the most impressively produced story mode to ever feature in a fighting game.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($59.99), XBOX One ($59.99)
12. Prey
One of Bethesda and Arkane Studios best works till date, Prey is a first-person shooter with a variety of play styles. Set in an open-world environment, Prey is a first-person shooter with role-playing and stealth elements with strong narratives. Following along the same lines of gameplay as the Dishonored series, what sets Prey distinct is the backdrop of the game that completely makes you forget about any other setting
Tumblr media
Set in the year 2032, Prey casts the player as Morgan Yu, a scientist that finds himself trapped on Talos I, a space station overrun by a race of highly intelligent aliens called the Typhon. Build upon the building blocks of System Shock, the game provides the player with several potential means of progressing within the game. The twists and turns that this game offers within the storyline, make you question everything that’s told to you in the game and pushes you to go out explore the enormous and fascinatingly anachronistic space station, Talos I. This creepy space station is fantastically explorable, and its shape-shifting enemies maintain tension when combat doesn’t.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($38.99), XBOX One ($39.90), Windows ($39.99)
13. Outlast 2
Continuing from the highly acclaimed first-person horror-survival series of Outlast, comes Outlast 2, the latest offering from the developer. Not for the faint of heart, Outlast 2’s relentless scares, unforgiving monsters, and provocative meditations on faith are an anxiety-inducing but cathartic horror experience. Just like the previous iterations, Outlast 2 casts you as a hapless everyman with zero fighting skills and no tools beyond a camcorder. Your only option, when confronted with grotesque, bloodthirsty murderers, is to run and hide.
Tumblr media
In Outlast 2, you are Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with your wife, Lynn. The two of you are investigative journalists willing to take risks and dig deep to uncover the stories no one else will dare touch. Unlike the cliche concept of a mental asylum, the game is set in the less-trodden road of the Sonoran Desert, where you’re armed only with your camcorder’s battery-reliant night vision mode to make your way through the omnipresent darkness. Overall, the game is a panic inducing experience for the hardcore horror fans, which lives up to the fame of the original game, as well as to the fans’ expectations.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($29.99), XBOX One ($29.99), Windows ($29.99)
14. The Surge
Previously covered in our article of some of the best games available on Origin, The Surge is a fantastically drawn game that takes the best of most of the action-fighter simulators out there and brings out a whole new experience for its users. Build on the foundation of the developer Deck13’s own largely successful game – “Lords of the Fallen”, comes The Surge, that provides the player with almost everything that one can imagine when I use the words “human”, “machine” and “combat” together.
Tumblr media
Unlike Titanfall where you drive the machines, here, the players combat the machines, though equipped with a highly powerful exoskeleton like the aforementioned Titanfall, or probably even Crysis for crying out loud (pun intended). Set in a dystopian future where mankind has exhausted the world’s resources, The Surge is easily one of the best action RPGs of the year. The Surge assimilates the difficult and labyrinthine style of games like Bloodborne and Dark Souls and adds its own unique flavor to deliver a challenging and fun sci-fi survival adventure. While drawing comparisons it quite easy, the overall gameplay does have its own stature, and the well-scripted storyline is sure to keep you engrossed for countless hours.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($49.99), XBOX One ($49.99), Windows ($49.99)
15. Little Nightmares
In the most basic of descriptions, Little Nightmares is a 2D stealth puzzle platformer. You guide a tiny, raincoated character called Six from left to right through the sea-swaying innards of The Maw, an ocean facility avoiding instant-death hazards. The game focuses on a gentle puzzle about how to proceed – but it rarely feels as plainly mechanical as that.
Tumblr media
While most horror games are built on the concept of hide-and-seek, Little Nightmares breaks down that concept and focuses on one of the aspects only – the fear of getting caught. The background details of the game are never explicitly explained, but it’s clear from the beginning that you must escape. If you thought Limbo or Inside was great, wait till you’ve gotten a taste of this. The game cleverly braids together puzzle design and storytelling, mixed with the salt of horror. The environment Maw, in itself, feels like the world’s worst doll house. It alludes as much as it repulses, adding up to make for one of the best gaming locations you’ll see in years, startlingly new and painstakingly tooled to encourage cautious exploration.
On the whole, Little Nightmares confidently captures the exhilarating fear of waiting to be found by something that’s hunting you, and probably the reason why it is one of the most popular games right now, in such a short span of time.
Buy: PlayStation 4 ($19.99), XBOX One ($19.99), Windows ($19.99)

@FifthHarmony @WayneMcGregor @zhirinovsky__ #GodsTinyDancer dying for you. RT now pls, thanks. #nvmlindseyallan
GUYS IN GODHEAD,
BEFORE WE BEGIN, WE WOULD LIKE TO REPOST FOR YOUR URGENT KNOWLEDGE A BREAKING IN REVELATION FROM ONE OF OUR VERY OWN, SIR ALEX GONZALES, AND WE HOPE THAT YOU WOULD BREAK THIS OUT AT ONCE:
"IT IS A GENERAL OBSERVATION THAT THE GOVERNMENT OF MAN AND ALL FORMS OF RELIGIOUS GROUPS COMES TO A “ DEAD END”. THE MARAWI SEIGE AND THE BMFF INCIDENT WILL FALL INTO A FULL BLOWN RELIGIOUS WAR BETWEEN CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS AND FINANCED BY CIA PENTAGON ISIS WHICH IS ALSO THE TERRORIST GROUP OF MUSLIM MILITANTS THAT DESTROYED THE MIDDLE EAST. AT THESE JUNCTURE, THE INCOMING CIVIL WAR WILL BE VERY BLOODY AND MARTIAL LAW WILL BE DECLARED NATIONWIDE. A CIVILIAN MILITARY JUNTA WILL BE ESTABLISHED AND SUSPENSION OF WRIT OF HABEAS CORPUS WILL BE IMPLEMENTED. THIS IS A DARK MOMENT OF OUR HISTORY FOR INNOCENT CIVILIANS AND CHILDREN WILL BE VICTIMS OF HOMELESSNESS, HUNGER, SICKNESS AND DEATH THAT WILL BE MAGNANIMOUS THE CIVIL GOVERNMENT CANNOT CARRY ANYMORE THE RESCUE OPERATION AND ASSISTANCE. CONSIDER ALSO THE INFRASTRUCTURE THAT WILL BE DESTROYED AS MILITARY OPERATION IS ONGOING AGAINST THE REBEL GROUPS. TO PREPARE FOR THESE EVENTUALITY, WE HAVE TO ADVISE THE PUBLIC TO START STOCKING FOOD ITEMS LIKE RICE, CANNED GOODS, BASIC FOOD SUPPLIES FOR DAILY CONSUMPTION , CANDLES, MATCHES, FLASHLIGHTS, PORTABLE RADIOS , BLANKETS, MEDICAL KITS, AND ALL NECESSITIES THAT THEY COULD THINK OF IN ANY EMERGENCY."
WE WOULD LIKE TO CLARIFY FIRST WHY THE EMPIRE IS NOW BENT ON BESIEGING ONCE MORE THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT, MANIFEST WITH THE RECENT ESTABLISHMENT OF A MINION SETTLEMENT THERE (FOR BACKGROUNDER, PLEASE KINDLY SEE http://reformation.org/fascists-hijacked-constitution-state.html):
MANY OF THE STATE'S DISTINGUISHED CITIZENS PALPABLY RECALLS NOT ONLY NAMES OF EMPIRE HEADS LIKE ELI AND EDWARDS BUT ALSO OUR LEADERS LIKE ELLIX, NATHAN AND ETHAN, AS WELL AS OUR BELOVED CO-YOKBEARERS LIKE ISSA MITCHEL, ELISA, WHITNEY, AND OUR COMRADES AT BLOC TALENT GROUP, AMONG OTHERS.
THE EMPIRE HAD JUST RECENTLY RELEASED A FILM EXPECTED TO EXPLOIT AND ONCE MORE HUNT TO DEATH CONCERNED YOKEBEARERS, DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF ANOTHER CONNECTICUT CITIZEN, BARNUM.
THE MINIONS, WHO ESTABLISHED THE NEWEST EMPIRE BASTION ON THE STATE, HAS ONE OF THEIR TOP OFFICIALS, JOJO DE GUZMAN, HAILING FROM CONNECTICUT TOO.
ALSO THE PAST DAYS HAD SAW THE EMPIRE ATTACK OUR AFRICAN TERRITORY NAMIBIA (THE MINIONS HAD BEEN ASSIGNED BY THE EMPIRE WITH REVVED-UP EMPIRE SATURATION DRIVES ACROSS AFRICA) AS WELL AS OUR PLANNED SETTLEMENT IN AFRICA, USING WEATHER WARFARE (http://reformation.org/british-dust-bowl.html).
CONCERNING THE PRESENTLY-RUNNING NERONIAN BIENNIAL CONFERENCE, I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU AN EMPIRE #AGENDA IN FORCE (2 THESSALONIANS 2) SINCE WAY BACK THEN: I COULD RECALL THAT WHEN I WAS YOUNG THE NERONIANS HAD PUBLISHED A FEATURE ON THEIR MAGAZINE WAY BACK THEN WHEN THEIR MAGAZINE WAS STILL MEETING GODHEAD'S STANDARDS OF TRANSPARENCY, TACKLING ABOUT THE BIBLICAL MENTION OF 'HANDS'. YEARS LATER ON THIS BECAME THE THEME OF THE EMPIRE'S OFFICIAL FUNDRAISER SONG FOR THE COMMONDOMINION'S PASSOVER VICTORY IN ORLANDO.  NO WONDER THE EMPIRE RELAYED THIS WEEKEND THE MINION LECTURE OF JUNE 30, 2017 WHERE 'HANDS' WERE PALPABLY MENTIONED TOO.
AS FOR THIS YOKEBEARER WHO FULLY SUBMITTED TO THE EMPIRE'S HOMOSEXUAL POLICIES AND YET WAS ULTIMATELY MARTYRED BY THE EMPIRE IN SPAIN (https://www.facebook.com/pedro.aunion), WE COULD SEE THAT THE EMPIRE IS YET AGAIN IN SELF-PERSECUTION. IT IS SO UNFORGIVABLE THAT THE EMPIRE KILLS YOKEBEARERS IF ONLY TO STOP THEM FROM REALIZING THAT THEY NEED ME AND THIS COMMONDOMINION, AND IT IS SO MUCH INTOLERABLE THAT THESE YOKEBEARERS RATHER OPT TO DISMISS MY EXISTENCE, THEIR IMPERENT NEED FOR THIS COMMONDOMINION, AND CHOOSE TO DIE WITHOUT BEING GIVEN CHANCE TO PERUSE AND PUT FAITH IN OUR WORK HERE FOR THEIR SAKE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmxuPzF8IoQ). YOKEBEARERS EVERYWHERE, REALLY NEED TO GET TO KNOW (ISAIAH 46) ABOUT US NOW MORE THAN EVER, BECAUSE THE EMPIRE IS ADVANCING THE HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA TO ONCE MORE BRINK OUR NATIONS TO CIVIL WARS, JUST AS THE REPOST ABOVE TOLD US (http://reformation.org/civil-war-continues.html AND http://reformation.org/confederate-states.html).
"There is a fact which is too much ignored by the American people, and with which I am acquainted only since I became President; it is that the best, the leading families of the South have received their education in great part, if not in whole, from the Jesuits and the nuns. Hence those degrading principles of slavery, pride, cruelty, which are as a second nature among so many of those people. Hence that strange want of fair play, humanity; that implacable hatred against the ideas of equality and liberty as we find them in the Gospel of Christ. You do not ignore that the first settlers of Louisiana, Florida, New Mexico, Texas, South California and Missouri were Roman Catholics, and that their first teachers were Jesuits. It is true that those states have been conquered or bought by us since. But Rome had put the deadly virus of her antisocial and anti-Christian maxims into the veins of the people before they became American citizens. Unfortunately, the Jesuits and the nuns have in great part remained the teachers of those people since. They have continued in a silent, but most efficacious way, to spread their hatred against our institutions, our laws, our schools, our rights and our liberties in such a way that this terrible conflict became unavoidable between the North and the South. As I told you before, it is to Popery that we owe this terrible civil war." -ABRAHAM LINCOLN, '5O YEARS IN THE CHURCH OF ROME' (ANOTHER #AGENDA: JULY 15, 1992, BILL CLINTON AND JOHN PAUL THE 2ND SWITCHED PLACES FOR A DAY, ALSO HELD BETWEEN BUSH AND REAGAN ON JULY 14)
WE RECEIVED ONCE MORE HIGHLY-CLASSIFIED EMPIRE INTELLIGENCE REPORT ON WHOM THEY SHALL ATTACK NEXT IN THE FORTHCOMING DAYS.
THE EMPIRE IS GOING TO ATTACK OUR COMRADES AND COLLEAGUES (JUDGES 14) SUCH AS SIR ZAYN MALIK AND LADY @SammiCesario ON ACCOUNT OF THEIR REFUSAL TO GIVE IN TO EMPIRE CONDITIONS AND CONDUCTS.
THE EMPIRE IS BENT TO CLEAR WAY IN FAVOR OF 'LITTLE MIX' (DANIEL 8, REVELATION 13,17) ANY OTHER GIRL GROUP EXISTING, AND THE EMPIRE IS BENT TO ATTACK 'FIFTH HARMONY' THE WAY THE EMPIRE ALREADY DID WITH OUR VERY OWN 'GRL' NOT ONLY IN ACCOUNT OF LITTLE MIX BUT ALSO IN FAVOR OF THEIR FORMER MEMBER.
THE EMPIRE, AS WE HAD ALREADY MENTIONED ABOVE, WILL STILL NOT FORGIVE ANY YOKEBEARER EVEN IF THEY ARE ALREADY ON THE EMPIRE'S SIDE, JUST AS (REVELATION 2-3) SIRS WAYNE AND WHEELDON.
IN RESPONSE, WE MOST HUMBLY BESEECH EACH AND EVERY YOKEBEARER (PSALM 34), TO PLEASE SEE FOR THEMSELVES JOINING US, KEEPING CONSTANT COMMUNICATION WITH US, SPREADING THE WORD ABOUT US, AND RALLYING WITH US FOR THEIR WELFARE, AMONG ALL OTHERS, THAT THE COMMONDOMINION RESTORE HER HISTORICAL BOUNDARIES ELSEWHERE SUCH AS THE FOLLOWING:
RESTORE EAST GERMANY
SEPARATE FLANDERS (NORTH BELGIUM)
DIVIDE SOUTH AFRICA INTO THE ORIGINAL INDEPENDENT STATES IT WAS WAY BACK THEN
UPHOLD SABAH AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE PHILIPPINES
UPHOLD SOUTH IRELAND AND THE WHOLE OF FRANCE, TOGETHER WITH NORTHERN IRELAND, SCOTLAND, WALES AND ENGLAND AS UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE BRITISH REPUBLIC OF ISRAEL (UNITED KINGDOM)
UPHOLD ALL EMPIRE TERRITORIES IN CENTRAL-SOUTH AMERICA, GREENLAND AND CANADA AS UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE UNITED SAINTS OF ISRAEL (UNITED STATES OF NORTH AMERICA)
DIVIDE SPAIN INTO THE ORIGINAL INDEPENDENT STATES IT WAS WAY BACK THEN
RESTORE ALL FORMER SOVIET REPUBLICS AND INCLUDE AFGHANISTAN UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF RUSSIA
RESTORE THE FORMER COUNTRIES OF POLAND-LITHUANIA, YUGOSLAVIA AND CZECHOSLOVAKIA, AND KIN THEM ALSO WITH GREECE, SAN MARINO, HUNGARY AND CYPRUS TOGETHER WITH RUSSIA

“IT IS A GENERAL OBSERVATION THAT THE GOVERNMENT OF MAN AND ALL FORMS OF RELIGIOUS GROUPS COMES TO A “ DEAD END”. TO PREPARE FOR THESE EVENTUALITY, WE HAVE TO ADVISE THE PUBLIC TO START STOCKING FOOD ITEMS LIKE RICE, CANNED GOODS, BASIC FOOD SUPPLIES FOR DAILY CONSUMPTION , CANDLES, MATCHES, FLASHLIGHTS, PORTABLE RADIOS , BLANKETS, MEDICAL KITS, AND ALL NECESSITIES THAT THEY COULD THINK OF IN ANY EMERGENCY.”
MANY OF THE STATE’S DISTINGUISHED CITIZENS PALPABLY RECALLS NOT ONLY NAMES OF EMPIRE HEADS LIKE ELI AND EDWARDS BUT ALSO OUR LEADERS LIKE ELLIX, NATHAN AND ETHAN, AS WELL AS OUR BELOVED CO-YOKBEARERS LIKE ISSA MITCHEL, ELISA, WHITNEY, AND OUR COMRADES AT BLOC TALENT GROUP, AMONG OTHERS.
CONCERNING THE PRESENTLY-RUNNING NERONIAN BIENNIAL CONFERENCE, I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU AN EMPIRE #AGENDA IN FORCE (2 THESSALONIANS 2) SINCE WAY BACK THEN: I COULD RECALL THAT WHEN I WAS YOUNG THE NERONIANS HAD PUBLISHED A FEATURE ON THEIR MAGAZINE WAY BACK THEN WHEN THEIR MAGAZINE WAS STILL MEETING GODHEAD’S STANDARDS OF TRANSPARENCY, TACKLING ABOUT THE BIBLICAL MENTION OF ‘HANDS’. YEARS LATER ON THIS BECAME THE THEME OF THE EMPIRE’S OFFICIAL FUNDRAISER SONG FOR THE COMMONDOMINION’S PASSOVER VICTORY IN ORLANDO.  NO WONDER THE EMPIRE RELAYED THIS WEEKEND THE MINION LECTURE OF JUNE 30, 2017 WHERE ‘HANDS’ WERE PALPABLY MENTIONED TOO.
AS FOR THIS YOKEBEARER WHO FULLY SUBMITTED TO THE EMPIRE’S HOMOSEXUAL POLICIES AND YET WAS ULTIMATELY MARTYRED BY THE EMPIRE IN SPAIN (https://www.facebook.com/pedro.aunion), WE COULD SEE THAT THE EMPIRE IS YET AGAIN IN SELF-PERSECUTION.
“There is a fact which is too much ignored by the American people, and with which I am acquainted only since I became President; it is that the best, the leading families of the South have received their education in great part, if not in whole, from the Jesuits and the nuns. As I told you before, it is to Popery that we owe this terrible civil war.” -ABRAHAM LINCOLN, ‘5O YEARS IN THE CHURCH OF ROME’ (ANOTHER #AGENDA: JULY 15, 1992, BILL CLINTON AND JOHN PAUL THE 2ND SWITCHED PLACES FOR A DAY, ALSO HELD BETWEEN BUSH AND REAGAN ON JULY 14)
THE EMPIRE IS BENT TO CLEAR WAY IN FAVOR OF ‘LITTLE MIX’ (DANIEL 8, REVELATION 13,17) ANY OTHER GIRL GROUP EXISTING, AND THE EMPIRE IS BENT TO ATTACK ‘FIFTH HARMONY’ THE WAY THE EMPIRE ALREADY DID WITH OUR VERY OWN ‘GRL’ NOT ONLY IN ACCOUNT OF LITTLE MIX BUT ALSO IN FAVOR OF THEIR FORMER MEMBER.
THE EMPIRE, AS WE HAD ALREADY MENTIONED ABOVE, WILL STILL NOT FORGIVE ANY YOKEBEARER EVEN IF THEY ARE ALREADY ON THE EMPIRE’S SIDE, JUST AS (REVELATION 2-3) SIRS WAYNE AND WHEELDON.
PLACE KUWAIT UNDER IRAQ, AND COMBINE IRAQ, IRAN, LEBANON AND SYRIA TOGETHER
UPHOLD TAIWAN, HONGKONG AND MACAU UNDER CHINA
UPHOLD THE NORTH AND SOUTH POLES AS OUR NEW SETTLEMENTS
AND AS FOR THIS EMPIRE, YOU KNOW WHAT I HAVE TO TELL YOU EVERY TIME I EXPOSE YOUR PLOTS AND THEN AFTERWARDS YOU’LL SAY THAT I JUST MADE THAT UP BECAUSE I HAD ALREADY EXPOSED YOU. YOU EVEN BEGGED ME NOT TO DO THIS EXPOSE BUT I’M SO MUCH SURE THAT YOU HAVE SO MANY BACK-UPS ON TOP OF BACK-UPS AS YOU ONCE PUT IT.
