Bearhugsandshrugs Update – April '24: Discord, beta reader match ups, WIPs, book writing!

Hey all, it's been a while since I shared an update!

TL;DR: Updates on fics, community things, and my life!

Last time I told you about the book proposal I wrote for my agent, and I managed to complete that and submit it! Even better news was that she liked it. So I will refine parts of the story I wrote to incorporate her feedback, and then in a month or so it'll go out to publishing houses in the hopes that someone buys it! Keep your fingers crossed for me so your girl gets published :)

Admin: Discord Server, Community, Pinned Post

In case you missed it: I launched a discord server where we hangout to talk about Gort and writing. Last week we finished the first writing buddy match up, where I paired six writers with a buddy so they can beta each other's fics. It made me super happy that the community came together in that way!

There will also be a super cool event coming soon that @littleplasticrat came up with, I'll share more on that next week when I have more headspace to give this the hype post it deserves. Just teasing a bit: it does involve Gorty and fashion :3

I also published a new lore & theory masterlist for BG3 and I'm working on compiling the drabbles and headcanon lists, too.

WIPs

In March I already told you that I was moving all WIPs to May, maybe even June. Since I'll be traveling in May, I might or might not have time to work on the WIPs.

Worthy Chapter 3: Structure is drafted. ETA hopefully in May

Folie Chapter 7: I scrapped the entire structure. While I'm motivated to write Raph and Haarlep again, I'm not particularly fond of my original idea so I have to redo the last chapter, ETA probably June

Durgetash series (concept linked) and Raphael series (concept linked): on hold for now. Neither of them grabbed my attention long enough for me to do more with it.

There's one fic/art trade I'm going to write for @tatterings and it's likely either going to be Astarion or monster fucking. So keep an eye out for that.

Series

Both MAD and Gorsimp are continuing! I'm sketching out Act 3 for MAD which we're about to enter. Due to life stuff I changed to posting schedule to every two weeks for MAD, while Gorsimp continues to update 1-2x a week (mostly thanks to @bloodlessbhaalbabe's incredible discipline on keeping us on a schedule).

And in more MAD news, I made a playlist for that fic! Give it a listen if you want to cry.

Other stuff

I'm slowly coming back online after a few really bad months of physical and emotional health turmoil. I'm okay for now and I've been taking care of myself, creating some distance from the fandom to protect my peace of mind, and I'll probably continue to take it slow for a while.

Last time I said I'd do another giveaway when I hit 1k followers. Since I've barely been on I haven't made much progress – it's about 50 followers or so away, but this blog isn't really growing right now. Guess I'm getting a much needed break from taking on too many WIPs :D anyway, I just wanted to say it's still on my mind, but I don't particularly feel the need to promote it because it'll happen when it happens.

Something cool to celebrate in the meantime: Folie à Deux hit over 1,000 kudos on AO3! Crazy to me!!! Thank you all so much. I wish to love and appreciate idw optimus more too. But I also don’t want to read through the entirety of IDW 1.0. Can you please recommend me any specific issues/parts?

Hi!! I see that you have already reblogged my IDW1 Optimus-focused reading guide, so I assume that you read that and still felt like it was too much. I'd do anything to spread the OP love, so I will try! But before that, please forgive me for rambling a bit.

That guide is not the entirety of IDW1, I tried to cut as much as possible, and I want to reiterate that I consider Barber's Optimus the definitive take on IDW1 Optimus. To the point that I like all other stuff with him only in because I read them through Barber's characterization which serves to give them depth in retrospective. And it does this because Barber's writes Optimus with the intention of consolidating all the other writer's takes on him (which were uh... a mess). It's a very contextual reading, a conversation, there's more to get from it if you know the background. So I would ask you to reconsider giving it a try, skip the crossovers if you want. I'll redo the reading guide with links to download/read online if you want.

That being said, I understand that sounds like "read these bad comics in the hopes you will like this one other comic" and the point is to have fun, not to do homework. So in that case I'll say to just read exrid/Optimus Prime and the JRo stuff (but we'll come back to teh later)

See, the exrid/OP is a whole story, so recommeding individual issues doesn't make much sense to me, it would be like recommending one episode of an anime or one chapter of a book, it would entirely lack context and lost much of it's meaning, especially because Optimus is a main character whose actions cannot be taken out from the rest of the plot. My favorite moments require build up, like when Optimus annexes the Earth to the council of worlds, that doesn't hit the same if you didn't read all the previous issues where Optimus was trying to remove all Cybertronian influence from Earth and the series of events that led to him changing his mind and think such a fucking move was a good idea.

And I've talked about this before, but while Mtmt/LL has its biggest strenght in character dynamics and out-of-screen build up, exRID/OP has it in thematic consistensy and narrative cohesion. All parts of it and there to make a point that feeds the whole, character's perspectives feed each other and the biggest pay-off comes at the very end. Also, Optimus Prime is a story about him as a character as much as it is about him as a symbol, so seeing the effects he has on other people is important.

I suppose you could read exRID starting from post Dark Cybertron as it basically becomes a different story and the first part doesn't feature Optimus (except in issues 6, 10, 19) I would not recommend this as there are still a lot of links between the two and you would miss a chunk of Arcee's story (who is the one other character on which the whole thing falls upon). But you could. Don't skip Combiner Wars tho.

Other than that here are some hightlights:

The Death of Optimus Prime: This is the one that works best as a single issue, as it is a one-shot. It sets up phase 2 so definitively read it.

JRo's stuff: That is Chaos Theory, Mtmte #9-11, Mtmte #36 and Spotlight: Orion Pax. Now, JRo's OP is certainly the one that is more likeable, but I don't necessarily think that it's good. JRo kinda wants to have Optimus be more morally grey but always reels back and portrays him as the ultimate good seemingly without considering the implications of a lot of the stuff he does. But still, Chaos Theory is the backbone of phase 2, they are fun reads and it introduces a lot of backstory and aspects of his personality that will be important.

Punishment: As this is a mini series, it's good to read on its own. It's still set in the broader context of exRID, but at least it's a complete story and a compelling one! Lots of Optimus brooding, but not in an annoying way.

Optimus Prime #1-6: Okay, so if you don't want to read all of exrid/OP or are testing the waters before commiting to it. This arc deals with Optimus trying to get people to accept Earth as part of the Council of Worlds and risking war for it, contrasted with events of his past. This may be the easiest arc to read on its own, but I also think it does a great job of building Optimus character. It's also a great example of the narrative not shying away from Optimus doing bad things, stupid things and having anger issues (and also the cop thing), while also retaining the core of his character as someone who genuinely wants to do good and getting into his head to make sense of his actions (not justify them). This is something that I feel only Barber gets right. Also Zeta Prime is there and he's the most important character that barely shows up.

Autocracy: Ok, ok, listen... this may or may not be the most disliked series in IDW1 and while I think it has a worse reputation than it deserves, I still wouldn't call it good. While its more honest abotu what being a cop entails than Chaos Theory and is willing to have OP be unsavory, that aspect doesn't really go anywhere and it fails to make OP an enganging character whose actions make sense. But it still has the backstory of how Orion became Optimus and a friend likes it, so hey, maybe you will too. Also the aforementioned flashbacks of OP 1-6 feel to me that they are written in direct response to Autocracy and try to explain how that is the same character than the one in Chaos Theory. I'm actually working on meta about that (anon, if you're reading this, I haven't forgotten). So for all that Barber is trying to recontextualize and reconciliate all the other takes on Optimus, this is the most obvious one and Autocracy is not that long. So it may be worth checking out.

Are you planning a continuation of your series post season 6? That's a whole new world!

Hi Flor! This is a question I've actually been thinking about a good deal the past couple of days!

Ultimately, I think it will depend on if we get the movie or not. Because if we do, I may end up having to redo some of the ideas I have for post-season 6. Because obviously I will want to write Lucy into the film.

I do, however, have an very specific ending for the series planned out, and Steven Knight can pry it from my cold, dead hands if he wants. I don't care if I have to retcon the entire ending of the film, the ending I have in mind for Lucy and Tommy is too perfect and I'm not changing it, no matter what happens in the film.

BUT, assuming that things remain as they are, and we don't get a movie, I do have some ideas for some post-season 6 events. I'll have to see how the characters develop, because while I do try to have a plan and keep a very detailed outline, I do also try to be flexible in letting the character develop in ways that feel right, even if it doesn't entirely match my initial plans.

So we will see! But I do certainly have some ideas!

Verse Information - Sunset City.

So I added a verse on my carrd for my Discord server, primarily because those muses now have some common ground through there that's easier to fall back on than to completely redo their meetings and dynamics from scratch here. It's by no means the "main" canon for this blog, but here's a post explaining it anyway for anyone who cares enough to know.

Basically, the premise is that every muse in the server gets mysteriously added to a group chat that then gives them access to a hub world called bargain bin Twilight Town Sunset City. From there, they can access the worlds of all the other associated muses. Sunset City is a dreamlike city ( literally ) that gets reshaped based on the minds of those that access it. But lately, the muses have been trying to get to the bottom of what this place really is...

A lot of the major canon divergences apply to the KH muses, and they really just stem from the fact that there's a bit of a sense of linear progression in the server, so Sora was very much in step with my playthrough of the series, so when he died...I kind of had to improvise LMAO. I'll have to improvise again whenever we get more information on KH4, but for now, just consider this a completely alternate timeline to the main canon where he disappears to Quadratum. Some fun things also change for Roxas but not to nearly the same extent as Sora.

Edit: And then the same thing happened to me while writing Noctis. I was writing him in step with my playthrough, then dude had to go and get prophecy'd on me and I had to figure out how to justify continuing to write him; same with my friend who writes Ardyn in the server. So those changes will also be detailed here.

List of all the major divergences below the cut. Where relevant, I'll indicate when a Discord-only muse or mun is being referenced.

Let's start with Roxas, since he's got fewer divergences to hammer out:

Basically, just so I could justify writing him while he was canonically inside Sora's heart and not really existing, he managed to exist in Sunset City during that time, due to Sora's heart manifesting him there and the nature of Sunset City as a dream world. He sort of experienced stuff in Sunset and stuff through Sora's heart as if he were in both places at once. His physical body also couldn't leave Sunset until he was able to link to Xion at the end of KH3.

And for Sora:

Sora's ship in this verse is with my friend's Riku who doesn't write on tumblr, so you'll probably see Soriku referenced in relation to this verse.

After the events of DDD, Sora got a therapy Munna from Emmet ( Discord-only mun ). Sora had trouble sleeping after his Mark of Mastery exam, on account of, y'know, the whole "I almost never woke up and had my body used to house part of Xehanort" thing. Also, nightmares. Lots of them. So since Dream Eaters can only really exist in sleeping worlds, and he can only summon his Meow Wow for short periods of time outside of there, Emmet arranged for Sora to have a therapy Munna. She's a shiny that the Breeders turned over to Emmet because they trusted him to put her into good hands and not just ask for a shiny for its own sake. In fact, he didn't even really ask for a shiny. The Breeders just were like, "oh, this guy's reputable, we can give the shiny to him." Sora named her Munny on account of her gold color, and because Munna sounds like Munny! Munny is bred to be a therapy Pokémon, not a battling Pokémon, so Sora doesn't actively battle with her, but she can help defend him in a pinch.

Jingle doesn't really exist in this verse...yet.

And here's the biggest one: Sora is not in Quadratum, and has not been yet. This divergence is entirely a result of me flying by the seat of my pants and trying to figure out how to continue to write him in the server after he fucking DIED — think "anime adapting an ongoing manga and running out of source material and having to improvise" type of beat. Basically, because of all the friends he made in the server, as well as all of his friends from canon, Sora's heart was able to hold on and wake up in Anti-Sunset, a parallel nightmare counterpart to the pleasant dream of Sunset. He began trying to make his way back to the surface, but was interrupted by a mysterious woman who splintered his heart into several fragments again. Several of the muses in the server formed a rescue party to try and find him. Each of the ten fragments of Sora's heart sensed the group and called out to each of its members, requiring them to help him overcome some of the pain in his heart in order to dispel the darkness that kept them caged and separate from each other. After these ten fragments were obtained, the group was able to safely return home with Sora.

Whenever we eventually get more information about KH4, and potentially a release date, I'll figure out an excuse to eeby deeby him back to Quadratum, but basically, if you see references to a rescue operation for Sora in threads set in this verse, that's what's going on.

Noctis suffered from the same problem as Sora, where I was writing in-game events happening to him as I experienced them, not knowing that was eventually going to result in him perma-dying. This also ended up writing the server's Ardyn into a corner. So here's what we came up with:

After learning his and Ardyn's fate from Bahamut in the Crystal, Noctis decided that — as angry and damaged as Ardyn made him feel, it just wasn't right to kill someone who was also a victim. So instead, he appealed to any humanity Ardyn might have had left in an effort to make a truce, and try to put off the inevitable long enough to look for another way. Incredibly, Ardyn agrees to the truce, and holds back the miasma enough for the group to resume their travels, now with Ardyn in tow, looking for a way to change their future for the better.

Because the prophecy hasn't been fulfilled yet, there are still daemons running about, and the party is doing their best to keep things under control. They basically have Ardyn on a big ol' child leash while he menaces them in less apocalyptic, more just plain old annoying ways.

The point in the Sunset timeline that I write these guys at on the blog jumps around a lot, it just kinda depends how I feel lmao.

COTL AU(ATOTL, MLP BaseEdits Series) 2nd Base Edit(Lambx4LoyalistSpouses) Bios Included.

Hello Fellow Cultists & Cult Leaders, I'm Back with another Finished MLP Base Edit of My COTL AU(a Tale of 2 Lambs) with the first one at least getting only 2 likes on Tumblr(so Screw It posting both on Tumblr.com & DA.Com for More Likes(and Follows). Anyways I'm okay with Dislikes(just don't go plan hating on me, or i'll block u from my Blogs in general)

Now I finished this Last Night before bed, since I wanna debut more Characters(in-game) for this Story Comic of Mine, with Lambert(Lamb), his Big Sis Lamberina(or Real Name being Steel Wool,Yes that's her Real Name but changed it to Lamberina) and Narinder(TOWW) in Fanarts with Lambert Before. So This will be a Full Fanart Debut of Lambert's Full Spouse Relationships(or his most Beloved or Most Loyal to Him & his Sister)

Here is The Finished Fanart(had fun with the last 2, P.S forgot to add Lamb's Red Crown(but will redo in future reference)

Lamb & Nari's Darling Children(Bo Peep, Lilith, Saturn & Judas) all were asking their Parents how they all met each, gotten married and their birthstories aswell before bedtime. Narinder at First told the excited little lamb-cat children its late and they need sleep but Lambert being the kind soul lamb he was accepted their foals request only if they go to sleep after the stories were done.

The Children Agreed to their Father's request(Nari is a Mother-Father) and Lamb and Nari both told the Beloved but humorous stories of their first meetings, marriages and etc.

LambxNarinder(Lambrinder by the Cotl Fandom)- "After a Hard and Tiring Battle with The Death God Cat himself,Lambert was already getting tired and serverly injured fighting Narinder after learning his backstory through Shamura before slaying him in Silk Cradle. and Soon enough the final battle with the one who waits was near. Lambert wished his Loyal Loving Followers luck and chose three lucky ones to accompany him during this tough final battle(before he met samantha, lady d. or even m3gan at all)

keep in mind this was lambert's 3rd attempt(actually my gameplay during the battle). at first all hope felt lost for lamb but luckily the heavens heard his prayers and he successfully beaten and defeated narinder(who's true form was a follower, to him was cuter than he thought) and spared him instantly. which to narinder was surprised at his descion.

at first Lamb was hard on Narinder by his punishment being wearing a moon necklace(giving him insomnia forever) and even worst fear "Getting close to Lamb or even Anyone in the cult" which was lambert's ultimate plan with some consequences.

as time went by, days past and more, nari made lamb do some simple tasks for himself and the cult to grow in wealth(for now..) from building skull candles(decorating the cult in general) to building the bishop trophies/memorial graves for Narinder's Grief of his Passed Siblings and Sins and finally getting married against his will. which he easily agreed to and was happy in the long-run.

Now Lambert and Narinder are happily married, and as for their 4 childrens births well long story short nari + pregs + mood swings & sickness = pain, suffering, and uncomfrable love and support from Lamb and his followers. but was happier than ever for their 4 children esp bo peep(bo)

Lamb x Samantha(or Lamantha in my own words of a shipping)

10/24/22(9 days before halloween irl, in-game blood moon ritual event/the meeting of samantha bloodsucker)

"Twas The Night of Hallows Eve in The Cult of The Nightosphere, where it was a new officiall holiday by the gods below called the blood moon ritual. Lamb was very excited to try a new ritual and was very special to him since the meaning of the blood moon ritual/event meant 2 things(new decor, follower forms from below and reuniting with old dead followers spirits and catching their spirits into the book of doctrines)

meanwhile every follower was horrified or scared shitless at the sight and scares of the old spirit followers before them including old first followers from the cult's very early days which lamb felt very sentimental about. after collecting all of the new forms and spooky new decorations, one caught the leader lamb's eyes : a bat demon form(the perfect new spouse) which he found absolutely drop dead gorgeous(in a spooky cultist way) from their 3 amazing variations(my irl reaction to this form and the other 2 at the time) but soon enough the gods above(the player/myself) created the adorkably cute lavender bat demoness and named the succulent creature Samantha Bloodsucker(or just Samantha/Sam for short) and she spawned scared and in fear of what her new leader would do to her either spare her life or instantly kill her. but thankfully she was spared and treated with more love and care by Lambert even by Narinder's instant jealously.

Lambert and Samantha formed a bond quite quickly from her instantly getting everything from many gifts to many confessions in the confessions booth from lamb's choosing to finally gaining a skull necklace(living a pretty long life to 600+ yrs in one timeline to age 90-100+ in another alternate timeline=save files i currently created) and soon enough things got even more interesting with Lambert marrying 2 additional Spouses with Lady Dimitrescu(a noir cold white Axolotl follower with lots of vainity towards herself) and Finally M3gan(based on the movie of same title, yes i watched it and was hilariously great) whom is a Pink psyhic female nightwolf as the brains of the spouses and is a memory of ratuu(due to his death from red fox guy.. i hate him btw) while Lamb loves his 3 spouses he still loves his 1st Spouse with Narinder(and considers him his Best Friend after all has happened and witnessed) which Nari himself really appreciates Lamb for as a Best Friend/Spouse despite not really showing it(almost cried tears but holded them in)

and That's the whole story of this Fanart/Post of The 4 Spouses of Lambert(will update soon if i decide to continue) and will show more Fanarts of my own LambertxNarinder Offsprings(from Childhood-Teenhood-Adult Years(Young and Fully) and even more of the Other Spouses like Samantha(Sam), Lady Dimistrecu(Lady D.) & M3gan themselves In future posts(even by the time the update comes around, whenever that happens)
