Highlights from Catherine Tate's Q&A Panel at Armageddon Expo 2024 (NZ) :
[I took notes best I could during the panel but some may be paraphrased]
Q: What's your favourite Doctor Who alien?
CT: The wonderful Ood!
Q: Who's your favourite Doctor? (Crowd gasps in anticipation)
CT: Well, I get asked this a lot, and obviously it's David (Tennant). I don't know what number he is, he keeps coming back. But definitely, David. Although, someone recently pointed out that I was technically the first ever female Doctor. So you know what? Me, I'm my favourite Doctor.
Q: What's your favourite episode you were in of Doctor Who?
CT:The Runaway Bride, because that's where it all began.
Q: What's a favourite memory of working with David Tennant on Doctor Who?
CT: The scene in 'Partners in Crime', the one with the Adipose, there's the scene where Donna and the Doctor see each other from across a room. But they're both behind glass and they have the whole mime scene with the windows. Well, I remember it was about 3am when we were filming that - - Russel really likes to film at night if the story is taking place at night - so it was 3am, and I said to the director 'Uh, right here it just says Donna Mimes' and he said 'Yeah do whatever'.
So that whole scene was ad-lib during shooting and David and I were so in sync with it, we did that first take and the director said cut and print!
Q: How emotional were you filming your final scene in Journey's End?
CT: So, we didn't always film in order. And I'm not really a sentimental person, but I will say I thought Donna's ending was absolutely perfect. When she meets the Doctor she was always yelling at the world, and she was so different than what she was by the end, she had so much growth with the Doctor and she changed so much in her time with him, but then, she forgets the him and all those memories. And that final scene, what really got me was how he says 'Donna, I'm off' and she's just, I think she's on the phone, and she just waves dismissively. She doesn't know him anymore. Russell, the way he ties things together, he's brilliant, that man.
Q: What was it like working with Bernard (Cribbins)?
CT: Oh, Bernard. God, I love him. He was so funny and talented. He always had stories and voices and sound effects. He loved making people laugh. But we had a gag where every single time I called him I'd say (Donna Voice) 'GRANDAD!'
He'd say, "Who is this?"
"It's Catherine."
"Catherine who?"
"Catherine Tate"
"Never heard of her."
We did this every time I called him and I loved it.
Q: Is there anything annoying about working with David Tennant?
CT: No, absolutely not. He's perfect. He's the best person to work with. I will say though, I was annoying him a lot. When we did the 60th Anniversary specials, our trailers looked exactly the same and I never knew where my trailer was. I'd walk into his all the time!
Sometimes I'd walk in and see his shoes in the trailer and instead of thinking 'Oops, wrong trailer', my brain went 'What's he gone and left his shoes in my trailer for?'
It got so bad, sometimes I'd walk up the stairs and from inside I'd hear 'NO.'
Q: Was it weird coming back to play Donna after all these years? Especially when it was along side David Tennant?
CT: It was a bit weird, more in the 'Oh I hope i still know how to do this' way than anything. But I did think it would be hilarious if David and I arrived on set and every take we just did completely wrong voices. Just thought it'd be hilarious for him to go (in an airy upper-crust British accent) 'Ohhhh, hellloooo. I'm the Doctor'
Q: If you could take any prop from set, what would you take?
CT: Ohhhh, I'd have very large pockets and see what I could fit. But mostly I think it'd be a sonic screwdriver. It's gotta be a sonic screwdriver, doesn't it? It's small and mobile... Easy to steal. Plus, it'd fetch a great price on Ebay!
Q: Best show you've ever worked on?
CT: The Office, they paid me tons of money.
Q: My mum loves David Tennant, is there something you can say to dissuade her?
CT: Hm, something to convince her he's not.... Oh, he doesn't believe in astrology! I'll say 'It's Mercury Retrograde' and he'll say 'NO, NO, NO I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT'.
Other Highlights:
As soon as she came out, she saw the stage had no steps to the audience, so she stayed on mic and went the long way round to go into the audience and interview people, trying to find who had traveled the furthest to be here. She was sorely disappointed everyone was just from Aotearoa 🤣
Donna Lines She Performed:
"Oi Spaceman! You're not mating with me sunshine!" (Crowd went wild for that)
"Binary. Binary. Binary." (🥺)
She did some of her characters: Lauren Cooper mostly, but also wished someone Happy birthday as Nan

Don't think it can be assumed Sam is filming CND throughout July. It is an ensemble cast and he is third, not in every scene. Nothing is filmed in order. This doesn't look as a difficult shoot. Most 1 hour 23 week dramas are filmed in less than 10 months, and mini series which this, is filmed in 6 to 10 weeks. Everyone knows now he will be missing from this set for at least 2 weeks in May and two weeks in June. If he films, 6 weeks now, March/ April and a bit more in late June/a bit July, with possible picks later, well plenty of time, to do something else. Recall when he was in Suspect 2 episodes, he only filmed about a week. Real Tele production moves fast, unlike OL. OL is slow due to some legit reasons but also because they do many many more shots, takes than necessary, at times 30 to 35 takes for a simple scene. Other physical, outdoor in winter shoots do not take as long, but it seems a rhythm started in S1. Don't think any assumptions can be made about Sam's schedule.
Oh Anon, you just fabricate a lot of assumptions here that, imo, doesn't hold and make much sense to me. First, they only started filming on March 29! Not the whole month of March. Yesterday was day 8 of filming
Tumblr media
I don't think you've seen the script, neither did I. But without seeing it, I'm quite sure you can not compare it in anyway to Suspect. He wasn't in 2 episodes, he was only in one, and just a few snippets (a CCTV video and a voice, he did ADR with Dries while he was in NZ remember). The scenes in Suspect were all 1 on 1. James Nesbitt with one other actor. And they were taking in long shots, which was told in interviews. Nothing like this series they're filming now, with extras, and on locations.
He might not be needed in every scene, and of course they will try to work around other actors schedules. Guess what, S isn't the only one and quite sure they can not create their planning solely on his schedule. If possible they will make adjustments, but nobody here can say anything about it.
The panel at ATX hasn't been announced, he could attend virtual, or fly back and forth. We just wait and see. An OL premiere hasn't been announced either, not even a location for it. So, speculating about these things, well go ahead. But the way you put it, doesn't add up for me. And I really don't care if he's there or not, as with C last year. One can have priorities and that's okay.

Diversity in Gaming and Cultural Melding, or "Why does that Aussie character have a Maori skin?"
I'm not too sure where to post this essay as it encompasses a lot of different games and diversity, I eventually decided on here. I want to preface that I'm half Australian and half Pakeha (NZ European). I don't claim to know the ins and outs of Maori culture, but I do have experience first hand as a New Zealand born.. New Zealander, and have lived in the country my whole life, so I still wanted to voice my perspective.
We've moved more and more from the older gaming trends of 'straight white guy saves impoverished people/country from shady group/tyrant' in recent years for modern gaming. A lot of fps games that had a scowling man on front cover walking/holding gun have changed tone and bucked the older ways to try and be more diverse and open for people, which can either be viewed cynically ('they just do it for more money') or as a genuine effort for change and growth. I'm honestly not here to debate either side of that as both arguments have merit, though I will say that I prefer the expanded range of characters regardless of original intention. This also isn't a post about the companies behind the games and the things they've done or still do, this is just a discussion on characters in the games.
Games having a diverse roster, be that culturally or even from various alien or fantasy races, inherently make a game a more enjoyable experience for me and many other people. If they're crafting in a fun and respectful way as well then that improves that factor even more. A suite of playable characters in a game needs those characters to behave differently from each other in order to keep things fresh and not allow things to feel the same with just a minor voiceline change and nothing else.
There's a reason why games such as Apex and Overwatch characters are much more loved and respected by their communities than the majority of playable characters in Call of Duty. Yes, all 3 of these games have different models, backstory and voicelines from the others in the game, but Apex and Overwatch cultivate a much greater personality to their characters which is showcased through animations, voicelines with more character and dedicated media outside of the game to expand on the lore and backstory of the characters.
Which is, unfortunately, where I need to put in the 'but'; due to a variety of factors, my culture is constantly mistakenly combined with another, or ignored entirely.
I come from New Zealand, a small country in the lower right hand side of the world, under Australia. To some, my country not showing up in media often may not even be a surprise. It's a fairly decently known meme that it never even shows up on maps in film and tv. A lot of people know us either from the director Taika Waititi or the Lord of the Rings movies. In recent times we've definitely made strides to be seen more in media but there still seems to be a mix of cultures that happens to people unaware of the differences. I don't claim to be an expert on my or any other bit of culture, but at least putting out some information and my viewpoint as born and raised Kiwi (NZer) may hopefully help at least one person better understand, which will make all this writing worth it.
I'll be talking specifically about 3 games and 6 characters in total; Maui in Smite, Mad Maggie in Apex Legends and Junkrat, Junker Queen and Roadhog in Overwatch.
Maui is the new character being added to Smite very soon, the second Polynesian god to be put in to the game. Maui is an incredibly important figure in many mythologies around the islands in the Pacific, but the decision was made to focus on his Hawaiian interpretation. I personally have little issue with this because I know and respect how prominent he is to various cultures. In mythology, he founded my country by fishing up the South Island and his boat was made the North Island.
This is actually shown in the game in his abilities with him pulling up an island as an ultimate ability. I love this, honestly. I'm a bit disappointed that they don't have more ties to Maori culture but they even specified in the dev notes on creating him that they wanted to shift mostly on to Hawaiian folklore instead of Maori. I more than understand that and I'm honestly just happy that the rich mythology is getting more coverage in media.
I adore Mad Maggie. She's legitimately the first full on Kiwi in a major game that I know of, alongside having strong Maori characteristics. She has a distinct accent and tone accurate to the role (she's literally voiced by a Maori woman), she has a skin inspired by Maori culture including tribal tattoos *and* she actually speaks Maori in game via voicelines. That's why it's so upsetting to me that people were mostly dreading her release due to an event in Apex she took part in.
For those unaware, Maggie has a history with the character Fuse, a man with a very strong Australian influence. Maggie featured in an event before she released, trying to chase him down and essentially making a bonus game mode. Unfortunately, she suffered from some of what other characters like Newcastle and Vantage did in that she repeated voicelines several times. This lead to a lot of people mocking her voicelines and openly exclaiming that they didn't want her in the game due to just 3 or 4 voicelines from a single event. Thankfully since release this has died down, but it did still temper my excitement due to how rude people were about her. I still love her though and probably always will.
Finally we have Overwatch, one of the first big games that really tried to push for an incredibly diverse roster that I can think of. I'm not fully invested in the deeper factors of the story but I do know that Australia was nearly destroyed during the Omnic Crisis and this caused a liberation group to be formed, a group of scavengers to pop up and the like. During this however, New Zealand is barely even mentioned, if at all in the lore.
Junkrat is probably the most overtly Australian (aside Junker Queen). He has a strong accent and says some common Australian slang. Roadhog is.. a bit more concerning.
Roadhog has several strong connections to New Zealand and New Zealand culture. His real first name is Mako, a shark that while admittedly seen in many locations around the world, is well known for being in Polynesian waters, including a common appearance in New Zealand. His voice is muffled by a mask so you can't hear his accent, but a few of his voicelines are more commonly heard in New Zealand than Australia. 'Sweet as' is a very well known Kiwi phrase and 'I'm beached as bro' is a reference to a viral youtube video making fun of Kiwi accents.
The strongest connection however is his 'Toa' skin. A Toa is a Polynesian warrior, or in Maori is used to mean being bold, experienced and capable. This in tandem with the skin itself having an obvious Maori influence with (an attempt at) tribal tattoos, Huia feathers and a mask with the tongue out to echo the end of a Haka (a dance to celebrate achievements or sometimes as a method of intimidation of an opponent) makes it pretty obvious they wanted him to be a New Zealander.
But he's Australian.
Mako is never mentioned being a Kiwi, his story begins with him being displaced due to a peace accord in Australia. In fact, aside from a leaked map datamine early in release, New Zealand is never mentioned at all, anywhere. With Roadhog being enraged at the treatment him and his people received to the point he joins a liberation movement, you would expect him to be a lot more proud and open about his heritage, yet he gets a couple of New Zealand sounding voicelines and an obviously Maori warrior inspired skin and he's still labelled Australian.
This has been a painful sticking point for me since I first played Overwatch several years ago, honestly. Overwatch released in 2016 and was the first character in a large game with a Kiwi influence. It took a 6 year wait to get Mad Maggie this year to get a much more genuine feeling character and it frustrates me. At best this feels like Blizzard accidentally mixed some cultures together but at worst the skin feels like an Australian man cosplaying as a New Zealand person and it honestly leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth even now.
To be honest I wouldn't make as much of a big deal out of this if it wasn't for Junker Queen, one of the newest characters in the game. JQ is a very obvious Australian, with another thick accent and very Australian voicelines ('get moving you drongos' etc). It honestly breaks down in to two problems: Overwatch having yet another Australian and allegations of being Mad Maggie 2.
The first part is fairly minor for a gripe as they also just brought in a third Japanese character; Overwatch now has 3 Australians yet no Kiwis. I find it frustrating that the only Australian with some NZ links is called Aussie and they just give us a third Aussie. It makes me disappointed because they always tout how diverse and vibrant they are, but they relegate New Zealand to some voice lines and a skin but give Australia 3 characters.
The next is about the gaming community as a whole, wherein Mad Maggie and JQ have been compared to each other several times by many people. I feel a decent amount of this is because they sound *somewhat* similar, however I won't say that I don't find it kind of harmful when New Zealand has always been underrepresented in media. In my opinion, JQ has a bit of what's known as a 'bogan' accent. It's typically used to describe an 'uncultured person' which can either be a pejorative or a term of endearment, but I feel it fits as she has a notable twang and is quite obviously a bit more blunt personality wise. In comparison I'd say Mad Maggie just has a fairly common New Zealand accent, with some of the similar bluntness (though dialed up to 11 just like JQ).
I'm not a linguist and may be inaccurate in terms of region specific accents. Saying this however, I've noticed a lot of people claiming they're basically the same character. I can see parts of this argument but as a New Zealander I still have to express it makes me sad that they get conflated together in a similar way to Roadhog and his Maori inspired cosmetic, especially when Maggie is very strongly inspired directly by New Zealand and our culture.
This ended up being a lot longer than I intended. I suppose it's been stewing in my mind for years, ever since I played Overwatch and found that Toa skin. I would honestly love to see New Zealand featured more and more in games as we have a diverse array of people and a rich history but it seems like very slow progress. I expressly remember when I was interested in Rainbow Six: Siege I made a New Zealand operator called Katipo, named after one of only 3 dangerous spiders in our country. I posted this fan creation online, excited to just share a *tiny* bit of my country and the response from other fans was literally "they'll do Australia well before this". It shattered me, because it was true.
Australia is big, they're much more well known. That doesn't mean that other, smaller countries don't deserve some attention and it *certainly* shouldn't result in smaller countries having their culture subsumed into an Australian character via a single skin and a couple of lines of dialogue. Maybe part of it is that Australia and New Zealand have always had a partial rivalry and respect for each other that makes it hit different, I'm not sure.
What I do know is that I love gaming. I loved it since I was a child, I've been a gamer for nearly two decades now. I love that more cultures are being shown and embraced. It's time for more Kiwi representation. I want others to learn about my culture, I want to learn more about my culture that I don't know. I felt so much pride seeing Mad Maggie release and I want to feel that again.
People really don't understand how impactful diversity can be until you experience your own culture being shown in a game for the first time.

Alice Fraser has finally released her 2022 show, Chronos. I heard her advertise it on The Bugle for ages, she’ll come on and at the end will plug its upcoming tour dates, which were sometimes in Australia and sometimes in Britain but fucking never within easy driving distance of my house in Canada. But she said a while ago that she was filming it, and now it’s finally on Go Faster Stripe. For purchase in a bundle with her 2023 show, Twist. Which I think I’ve heard about slightly less often, entirely because she’s been on The Bugle slightly less often in 2023, I guess she’s a bit busy as she’s spent this year raising one very young child while pregnant with another. Fewer Bugle appearances, but still found time to do two new hours in two years, film them both, and now you can buy the two of them for ten pounds, which I think is a good deal. I mean I haven’t seen them yet, so I guess I don’t know for sure, maybe Alice Fraser has suddenly become shit at stand-up comedy. But from Alice Fraser as I know her, two shows for ten pounds is great.
I know Alice Fraser as The Bugle's most frequent guest. And I know that because of the spreadsheet that I obviously keep up to date every time a new episode comes out. Actually, as I write this I've realized this would be a good time for me to post the top rankings as of the end of 2023:
Tumblr media
Those are the top 15 most frequent guests, out of 42 guests in total (obviously my spreadsheet contains a lot more information than that, these are just the cliff notes, if anyone for some reason wants a list of every Bugle episode containing any individual guest, that is a thing I can provide). Alice Fraser is first with 120 and Nish Kumar is second with 75, so she's got a pretty comfortable lead. That's a fairly nationally diverse top 15 list. Five Brits, three Americans, three Australians, two Indians, one Irish, one NZ.
Anyway. The point is that I got to know enough about Alice Fraser from The Bugle to know I like what she has to say, and want to hear more. So last year I sought out her stand-up specials, and God, they are good. Talking about "intelligence" as an abstract and general concept is sort of nebulous and maybe meaningless, but if it exists, I think Alice Fraser is maybe the most intelligent stand-up comedian out there. She's from Australia and still lives there but she works in the UK a lot (and obviously she went to Cambridge University, another on my disappointingly long list of favourite comedians who were once in Footlights, I really am a big fan of that unfairly elitist institution) and she used to be a lawyer and she's just really brilliant. She makes a lot of puns and dirty jokes on The Bugle and then she gets up in her stand-up shows and tells complex moving stories about family and heritage and culture and tragedy and personal identity (she was raised Buddhist but is also Jewish and has family from lots of different places and those influences from everywhere come up in her work), and it's also funny, and it's really good.
The completist in me loves that Alice Fraser is one of those comedians where almost all her full-length shows has been released at some point, as a video and/or audio special. Here's a screenshot from her Wikipedia page of all her stand-up hours:
Tumblr media
And here's a screenshot of the Alice Fraser subfolder in the stand-up folder of my hard drive:
Tumblr media
Pretty similar lists; now that her last two shows are online she's made almost everything available. As you see in the screenshot I've already purchased Chronos and Twist, but I haven't watched them yet. I think I'm going to end this year with a full Alice Fraser re-watch. Start with Savage and watch them in order until I get to the new ones. A lot of Alice Fraser's shows build on each other, showing us her perspective and her ideas and her experiences in more and more depth every time, and I think they're worth doing in order. She specifically said that anyone who buys the Chronos/Twist bundle should watch them in that order, as Twist is a sort of sequel to Chronos.
I watched/heard those first three shows - Savage, The Resistance, Empire - last year. I saw Ethos earlier this year, and I think it's my favourite of her shows I've seen, though it's close. More than that, Ethos is one of my top few shows I've seen in 2023 at all (not just shows from 2023 - as that one isn't, it's from 2018 - but shows I've watched in 2023, which is a lot).
Anyway, I haven't even seen the new shows yet so I can't comment on them, but I just wanted to remind anyone who's unaware that Alice Fraser exists, and she's really really good at what she does. If you like comedy with intellectual ambition but also personal depth, introspective but also trying to tackle abstract ideas, storytelling and emotional impact but also I promise it does remember to be funny, then check out Alice Fraser.
Her first three shows can be heard in audio form for free on ABC Podcasts:
And here's where you can buy her new shows on Go Faster Stripe:
I guess I can't technically recommend those shows as I haven't seen them yet, and I won't until I finish my re-watch up to that point. But I definitely recommend Alice Fraser, just as an entity. Highly recommended entity.

tl;dr i accidentally committed a crime while trying to be nice
okay, so after recieving advice from a government agency (not a joke), i'm overhauling my on-stream content warning system's visuals a bit.
In Aotearoa, certain types of "publication" - namely films, TV shows, and games - require a classification to be displayed. these are issued by the Film and Video Labeling Body (if the title is not restricted) and Te Mana Whakaatu Classification Office (if it is restricted). They're neutral bodies which are bound by the Classification Act and the Bill of Rights, rather than the specific government in majority.
My content warning system was built to be based upon the way that Aotearoa classifies titles, a system with the following ratings (with relevant examples):
G (Mario Kart)
PG (Tunic)
M (Octopath Traveler)
R13 (NieR Automata)
R16 (The Witcher 3)
R18 (Left 4 Dead 2)
Titles with an R rating are legally restricted to people that age and up. I like this system a lot! It affords a tremendous amount of flexibility and nuance that I feel the broad ESRB M rating fails to capture. That's why I built my content warning system using that as a basis.
The basic idea was that sometimes, those labels *do* miss some stuff. They're a broad spectrum and that happens, and I believe the most pressing concern of the label should be the most prominent or disturbing content generally. So, I wanted to have some flexibility to add additional warnings alongside that as needed. To make a more accurate system, I got in touch with the Classification Office. I told them about the project, and also requested a list of every single possible content warning that the office has issued.
Quick sidebar: because sharing data from the government is good and cool, here's that list, which includes every possible individual warning that's been issued. This is every single possible warning that the NZ Classification Office has used for a film, TV show, or game issued up till April 5th 2023. I was told there's a bunch of one-offs in there, some of which you can probably spot.
In talking about the project, the official I spoke with also noted a particular section of the act: Section 121: unlawful issue of labels.
The gist: if I made a modification to the warning, but it looks plausibly official (eg. using the same language and style as the NZ rating system), I could be in some legal hot water and run the risk of fines. If I was just displaying the official warnings, that was fine, but any changes to those, I need to make it clear that the warning was not issued by the Classification Office in some way.
Given that I built the system with flexibility to allow customized warnings in the first place, I need to make a change to the warnings I'm applying now to get away from the NZ Classifications a bit.
I'm trying to devise a clever generic at the moment, and ditching the age rating portion of it. Reason is that, generally speaking, my streams and socials and such are a place for adults. My Discord is 18+, I say the fuck word and post pinups on here, streams tend to be about in that range too. Even if I were to stream something that had a G or PG rating (like Terra Nil or Tunic), I'm still looking at it as an adult and discussing topics and using language that is for adults. So, ditching the age rating makes sense for me.
I'm going to try and come up with an alternative for people who want to use the age rating style system as well though, since that has some utility for people who stream a little more variety and still have streams they're okay with younger viewers being part of.

The "red herring" comment sounds like it was copied and pasted from Phoenix too.'' HOLY SHIT I LAUGHED SO HARD I ALMOST PISSED MYSELF. it's so funny to see the contrast between the sane people and the insane ones. the sane ones saying grace has a long term partner and joseph is to this day very active on raya and he's dating around. and then i guess someone alerted the vanquinns and they posted these comments: "I’ve heard that they’ve been spotted together a couple times and supposedly there are pictures. I haven’t seen them for myself, so who knows. As for the NZ guy she’s rumored to be dating, I’ve heard that they’re friends and he’s more of a red herring to keep suspicion off of Joe and Grace. I have know idea if any of this is true or not, it’s just what I’ve heard. Idk about the Joe and raya app stuff either. I will say Joe and Grace do seem close with one another and if true I think they’re super cute!" "He literally has a song named after her on one of his Spotify playlists…" -- this one had the link to joe's spotify and i chose not to share it. but the best part of this is that this comment is being down voted due to the sheer stupidity of it. and everybody is calling them out for sharing the link and for thinking the song is for grace when it literally just says grace at the end and it's grace as in something pure and holy. "Well shit, now that you say something about it it is kinda sus. He kinda gives her special treatment for lack of a better term, he certainly doesn’t seem to act that way around other women. She definitely seems into it too. I’ve never heard of her dating someone else but idk I don’t really know a lot about her." these are the ones that made me laugh out loud. there are a few more because someone alerted the vanquinns to the question the op asked. op wanted to know if there's any tea on joe and grace's friendship. i'm kinda convinced op planned this with other vanquinns. it's funny how desperate they are. these comments are giving 'THE NEW LEGEND OF ZELDA WILL HAVE ALL THE ZELDAS FROM PREVIOUS GAMES, I KNOW THIS BECAUSE MY DAD WORKS AT NINTENDO, OK??' lmao 'i've never heard anything about her dating' and 'joe was on raya only once when that fan shared it on tiktok' are my top favorites. i can feel the desperation from here. oh and get this, they've been spotted together multiple times but there are no photos :/ can you believe that, not a single soul took a picture of the man that is photographed and filmed just for walking around alone, but when he's with grace there are no pictures. also find it funny no one alerted deumaxio or however that shit is spelled, find it very funny that if you search for the reports saying they've been spotted together you'll find nothing. and wait a minute, didn't the vanquinns say they had TONS of pictures of them together but wouldn't share them due to privacy?? and now they're saying there are no pictures?? oh my. i need to wrap this rant and go pee because i can't stop laughing.
Special treatment? Closeness? Then Joe is dating Jamie

i am very much enjoying my vague void! it's currently blasting hozier at full volume and that's almost louder than my internal screaming (don't worry, everything is fine, i just saw a spider)
i've never once in my life have followed a recipe correctly. all of my measurements are completely random and whatever happens happens. it is no longer in my hands. whatever eldritch entities exist take the wheel. and i absolutely refuse to spell anything in english without autocorrect because y'all have way too many double letters and random vowel placement
thank you! sadly, i won't have a break right now, because we just had christmas vacations, but the start of the new semester is always pretty chill. and you're absolutely right, i should take up necromancy! the snow and the cold will add to my mysterious vibes. i just need to get a big black cape with a hood to complete the aesthetic
i definitely picture everything above 5'6 feet as the same height. 5'7 and 6'2? the exact same thing. no difference here
how is morepork a real bird name. it's just... more pork? but the bird is magnificent. i completely approve of your first order as bird queen, not that you need approval from mere peasants like me, but it's a great order. ohhh salps look really cool, and it does look a lot like it! when you said boob implant i thought of mermaids and them using salps as boob implants but then i realised wait wouldn't jellyfish be better for that? because of their shape? ignoring their little leggies they're quite boob shaped, no? and then i realised that i was thinking about mermaids and alive boob implants... if i had to think it, you have to read it. i'm sorry
i was sold before but now i'm even more sure that i want to hire you. and I'll make sure to have lactose free cheese for the backflips (unless you want the lactose version? i'm not judging). will the biting of ankles cost extra?
that sounds like a brilliant set-up for a horror movie where they kill off all the children one by one. it's absolutely horrifying. if something like that would've happened to me i would've most likely just passed out. whatever happens afterwards is not my problem. and now i really don't want to know what the hell your leg was caught on because that seems like knowledge that would get me killed
ah so you're a fellow dirt eater? according to my mom my favourite thing to do outside when i was a little kid used to be eating sand. just shovelling handfuls of it into my mouth and crying when my mom made me spit it out. which i refuse to believe. if there are no photos it didn't happen
you warm climate people are starting to make me think that i'm better adjusted to the cold than i thought i am! it's either that or our buildings are better heated. i definitely don't know if anyone else calls hot water bottled hotties but i like it so from now on i'm using it
that's so cute! i was clearly a way more selfish child because when i found any amount of money i just kept it and bought candy as soon as i could. i clearly couldn't save money then and i can't now. we have stores like that (or i'm assuming that they're like that solely based on how they sell lollies) and they used to be my favourite thing because you could get so many lollies for such a small price!! and my mom even used to let me order for myself sometimes so i always felt like a very big girl jsjshsbsjk
also the fact that i can't send pictures on anon is a crime (yes i know why and it's good that that's not possible because can you imagine anons being able to send pictures? oh no is all i have to say about it) but anyways. because i have this one super cursed photo that reminded me of you and now i can't share it :((
duuuuude, sick void bro. sounds like a vibing void. I feel like I haven’t seen a spider in awhile. Other than daddy long legs. But they’re chill. They mind their own business.
I nearly always follow recipes exactly. My mum is like oh cook this for about 7 minutes? Yeah sure. I’ll take a wild guess. I’m like they say exactly 7 minutes so I’ll set a timer for 7 minutes and start a stopwatch so if it does seem to need more than 7 I can keep an eye on the extra time and be aware of exactly how long it takes me for next time. Other people are like oh let's see I have [lists 5-10 things in their fridge], hmm...oh I know what I could make with that! I’m like I have beans in my freezer because one recipe required them and no other recipes I know how to make do so what am I supposed to do with these now,,, this is stressful,,, basically I barely know how to cook and recipes are the only things saving me in that area. That is entirely fair. Except for the fuck duck, and murder is not the word you want surely, situations, it’s pretty helpful.
Ohhh I see. At least the start is chill! For a little! Before your entire situation spirals out of hand and you’re behind in every class and it’s taken you a whole day to read 10 pages and you’re exhausted and it’s only week 2. Just me? ok. fair. anyway. I want a cloak so bad. One of my uni friends tempted me to class because she said she was wearing a cloak so my depressed ass honest to god dragged myself out of bed and to said class just to see it. It was worth it. They’re incredible. Everyone should own a big cloak for the aesthetic.
I’m glad it isn’t just me hahaha. I can visualise my own height in feet but everything else is just the same size that is a vague amount taller than me, mentally.
It’s also known as the ruru. But the name morepork amuses me. It’s named after the call it makes haha. It does sound like it’s asking for more pork if you know to listen for that. thank u for ur approval, it means a lot, turns out becoming bird queen didn’t ACTUALLY get rid of my anxiety disorder weirdly enough so validation is great! lmaooo. What if the jellyfish stung them tho? At least salps wouldn’t do you dirty like that. The mermaids would just look like there are hundreds of bugs crawling around in their boobs, flesh shifting as they float around. Which is a vibe. If you’re into that. Jellyfish WOULD make a more solid, single, implant, some of them are definitely boob shaped. But that’s kinda boring no one’s gonna be traumatised by that. Salps on the other hand...yeah, that sight will DEFINITELY traumatise someone.
To be PERFECTLY honest I haven’t done a backflip in years but for lactose-free cheese? Dude. I’ll be going back to training. Gonna be the best backflip you’ve ever seen. As long as it’s not Tasty cheese I am content, but lactose free IS better. The biting of ankles will not cost extra, it is a pleasure to be allowed to do that.
Oh it absolutely would be. It’d be very funny if it reached the wider world bc people would probably be like ok but who would send kids into the bush like that,, it’s an odd concept. meanwhile everyone who grew up in nz is gonna be like y’all, you’re not gonna fuckin BELIEVE what i experienced growing up, it’s real dude. On one hand, I feel like murdering kids in a movie is questionable, on the other hand, It exists, so maybe people would be down for it. I feel like it’d be a good concept even if it wasn’t murdery tho. Like psychological horror? I’m not sure if I’m using that category correctly I don’t watch much horror. A kid following the rope but then being shifted into a different horror dimension but they never take the blindfold off because their teachers said not to and they’d probably have to let go of the rope to do it...I feel like this could work super well as a short film. The viewers see everything. The child just knows something is off and no one is coming when they call for help. I am so down for this. I also do not want to know what my leg was caught on. Some things I am better off not knowing.
yes! I am a fellow dirt eater! We had a sandpit at home (that’s a little bold. It was a large plastic shell that my parents filled with sand. technically a sandpit. but not fancy sdflsdkfsdf) but I don’t think I ever tried to eat it. Then again, I possibly did and just don’t remember because there’s no photo evidence of that one. I’d have to ask my parents sdfhsjdfs, I would however fully believe them if they said yes. it’s very characteristic of me. I don’t doubt it for a second. muuuum that’s my emotional support sand don’t make me spit it out smh the disrespect these days.
Oh I’m absolutely terrible even by most people’s standards around here when it comes to cold and hot temperatures. I remember sitting in the sun in my school shirt and school jersey in summer on a blazing day like it’s a bit chilly, isn’t it? Meanwhile my friends were in the shade absolutely dying from the heat. Likewise in winter I’d be shivering, teeth chattering, dying with my long sleeve thermal, my school shirt, my school jersey, my school jacket, my longs, warm socks and sneakers and gloves and school scarf while ppl would be walking around in a shirt and shorts like it’s a bit warm this winter huh? my body didn’t learn how to thermoregulate and it shows. But yeah NZ does also have a reputation for shittily insulated buildings and such. It shows. skhdfsfs if it’s not common use maybe don’t say can i have a hotty to someone without context but otherwise go ahead lmao. it’s a fun shortened version.
I was typically a very good saver, to the point where my extended family started gifting me gift cards and vouchers for Christmas and my birthday because if they just gave me money I’d put it in my bank account to save towards uni once I hit like, 12 years old. Which I think was a smart move. But apparently, I’m supposed to buy myself ‘something nice’ with it. I think I’m still an okay saver but I’m not as strict anymore. I’m aware of how much I can spare and I’m not just like you can never get anything for yourself ever, so I do get lil things for myself sometimes. oooo yay! At least you know what I mean. But yes. They were the gold mine for lollies. Absolutely terrific stores. My mum would be like hey lindsey how about you order? And I’d be like mother, I am 7 years old and I have an undiagnosed anxiety disorder everyone assumes is child shyness why would you think I would want to do that. Instead I will whisper my choices to you. After therapy tho I felt pretty rad for picking my own lollies by myself. I was like 13 at that point but sdfkjhsdf listen I got there in the end.
sdfkjsdfkjhsdf I like that a cursed photo reminded you of me. That’s all I need to hear. Tumblr said no anon dick pics but they also said no anon cursed photos either,,, very sad. for the latter part. the first part thank god. If I could turn on photos on anon I absolutely would just to see this but I don’t think I can :(

Definitely agree with you on the worlds end being better than hot fuzz and shaun of the dead. I think people find it disappointing because its the third of a trilogy and the first two set a tone - parodies of popular hollywood genres with some genuine emotion but mostly a focus on comedy. The worlds end places more weight on the emotion, so it loses some of the humour but imo it's definitely worth it because i dont think the film would've worked any other way.
Cool, genuinely glad to get this message and see I'm not the only person in the world with that unpopular opinion! I agree with you completely - it has a little more drama in with the comedy than the first two, but it still has a lot of funny moments in it. It's still firmly a comedy, and the comedic type of comedy, not one of those movies that's branded part of the "comedy" genre because that's the box where they put movies that aren't really anything else if they ever feature people having any fun. It is cool to me how all three of the Cornetto movies accomplish the goals of multiple genres - I once watched Hot Fuzz in the middle of the night while home alone, and the joke horror bits start to just feel like horror in that context. I had to put on an episode of 30 Rock after before I could sleep, same as I would with an actual horror movie.
I think all three movies are very good, obviously, but I know in general The World's End is considered the weak one and I just really like it, partly for reasons you described. I find the characters a little better drawn and more impactful, I get more invested in them than I do in the ones from the first two movies. The ending's weird, maybe goes a little over the top, but I still like it.
I do have a soft spot for that movie because I first saw it was in theatres with two good friends who now both live far away. In 2013 (sorry for responding to your message about a movie with a person story, I wasn't planning to until right now but it seems to be happening) me and my longtime best friend and two other guys had a nice sitcom-like friendship going for a few years. We had a regular pub where we met up two or three times a week and talk shit all night, and do stupid things together. I was moving a few hours away to do my last 2 years of university, and the night before I left my best friend was traveling for work so I didn't get to see him, but me and the two other guys in our group went to see The World's End in theatres. The three of us were all varying degrees of socially awkward and kind of relied on my best friend to facilitate normal social interactions, and without him, we struggled a bit with communication. But the least emotionally expressive member of our group was the one who suggested a cinema trip and picked the movie, and afterward I realized he knew what it would be about and taking us to see that was his way of saying he'd miss me.
Since then I've come back to my hometown but those guys are both gone - one followed his girlfriend across the country, one came with us to a wedding of our other friends in NZ, met an Australian woman at that wedding, and is now married to her and living in Australia. So I may connect with some of the themes of that movie (see I can talk about feelings on this anonymous Tumblr blog, but it's more difficult in real life), and therefore not be bothered by the layering of emotion.
Having said that, I think it's an objectively good movie that I'd rate highly even without a personal soft spot for it. If it loses humour compared to the first two, it's only a little bit, at the expense of better characters and a much stronger plot. I don't mean to denigrate the first two - they're all great. But the third's my favourite.
