Ok so I think about them an unhealthy amount so here's the ask I asked about a while ago.
Their sexual dynamics are kinda fascinating and in another show that would've been explored more. (I have so many questions- some of them are on a literary level and the others not so much lol)
Marissa said that they never had a problem with attraction and being emotionally unavailable made them want each other more. Their difference in experience and how it might have affected their dynamic- ex: Ryan sleeping with Theresa soon after splitting with Marissa (who had a regretful sexual experience with her ex and was waiting with Ryan) because of old habits, but she said like one line about it and that's it. (Now that I think about it, it's weird that Ryan said before their date that he's never, like, fully dated girls before aside from hooking up even though Theresa existed, I guess he wasn’t counting that because it was on and off?). We saw how Marissa's trauma of being assaulted affected their sex life but only for like one time when it's an interesting discussion too, and so could've been the Gabrielle predatory thing (when he said that he was with another girl and Marissa pointed out that she was a woman- knowing this show she probably meant it in a "omg she's so experienced im so jealous" kinda way but it's clear that her being older wasn't ok for her, at least not as ok as it was for him.
There's also all the sexual jealousy (as it's apparent from my asks, MV jealousy era was my favourite for being funny af, but there's also Ryan/Gabrielle and Luke/Marissa which were just painful) but also despite the intensity, there's a bit of assurance and comfort there ("what strippers? I don't know any strippers"/"you got a lap dance?"). They were being walked in on all the time and Marissa did say she wasn’t into PDA much (but I'm not sure if it was about Trey?) they were also "one of those couples" which means they didn’t keep their hands off each other, either. Ooh there is so much material lol- I shudder to think but HBO Ryissa would've been like 👀
You know this is something I was thinking about a few weeks ago. I'm probably not gonna answer this well but it's gonna be long. So first off, it is very insane for Marissa to say that she and Ryan were going at it during all of s3 when the narrative is relatively sexless for every couple until it's turned up wildly in 3x18 for a ratings and demographic shift (other people can speak about this better than I). I've talked about that 3x18 line before and it's so weird to shoehorn it in like they do; we're supposed to believe RM have been fucking this whole time? What? 3x14 showed us in their intimate scene that they haven't been doing this a lot since it serves as a means of reuniting them. But, hey, maybe they have and it's just weird shit between M/B that kept it from our consciousness. But like I said earlier, this season was so sexless until much later when it's turned up to 100 (and those irl dynamics were also very bad so like.... mess).
We're also supposed to believe RM didn't sleep together after 2x20 when "I think we can do better than the front seat of Sandy's car" is insanely suggestive. Not to say they did it right after getting back together but like....... idk. Them only having sex for the first time in 3x03 is narratively so far-fetched. Obv there weren't a lot of times they could in s2 since they're kept apart for plot reasons and then as soon as they reunite the Trey stuff happens.
BUT
Their comfortability in mid-s1 when they're dating is so easy. It's very hard to believe these teens weren't sleeping together. Ryan is largely unsupervised and pretty much has his own apartment! And they're both not virgins as we know. It's only when Marissa says in 1x19 that they haven't that we all have to be like oh??? And it's a teen soap so these things are usually documented for the audience, but still it's like please. Especially after 1x14.
All that said, lol, the way I see RM approaching intimacy is that from a young age neither of the two really associate sex with love. We know Ryan's experienced by 16 (though I personally think he exaggerates how many girls he's been with). There's at least Theresa who clearly did not exist in the narrative until 1x11. There's no way she and her mom wouldn't be in Ryan's mind when he's been abandoned in 1x01 and calling all his friends for a place to stay. So!!
For whatever (plot) reason, RM don't sleep together until 3x03. But Marissa rushes into sex with Luke in 1x06 for all the reasons I mentioned here. And she's incredibly hurt in 1x26/1x27 to learn that Ryan rushed into sex with Theresa right after their breakup. She spends the summer between s1 and s2 thinking about that and probably assuming they have sex then too (she looks surprised to hear in 2x02 that it "wasn't like that at all"). And then she starts having casual sex with DJ that summer. The DJ storyline is so so bad from its inception but we're at least led to believe she's sexually active. They tried to make DJ a viable romantic option but it was so bad from the start that at least it finally ends.
Marissa doesn't even get to associate sex with real, heartfelt romantic feelings until Alex and that's then pulled out like a rug from under her before they pivot her back to Ryan when Lindsay leaves. So she still doesn't associate sex with love. THEN she's assaulted and goes through all that fun trauma. R/L have a few scenes that imply they may be sleeping together but I think if they did we'd have seen it or at least heard about it.
Which brings us to 3x03 and RM both being in a place where sex and love can be working together. I think Ryan has love for Theresa but let's be honest that boy will never be ~in~ love with her and that's a major missing part of their relationship. 3x03 gives us the heightened Hawaii plot and that positions RM to realize this is the time because she's leaving and you know It's About The YearningTM. I don't think the scene itself is great because of the choreography and the stupid editing but what leads up to it "Are you sure? It'll make it that much harder for you to leave" is just SOOOOOOO
If we understand that RM have been having a bunch of loveless, emotionally unavailable sex in s3 I don't think it's much of a stretch to imagine them jumping into bed with the people they then jump into bed with in late s3. And in many ways it's like as soon as they were able to marry sex and love in 3x03, they reverted back to these people who saw it as something else. That speaks to how s3 was so fucking bad.
A few things:
Yeah I think the PDA line in 2x22 carried over to 2x23 is only really about Trey and her bruise that she's concerned with; their PDA in front of their friends in 1x15 meant nothing to them. I can't imagine they cared more about schoolmates seeing them than they did their friends (and Marissa's ex)
I think M is so hurt about Gabrielle in 1x06 and 1x07 for all those reasons. That she's older "Actually, I think she was a woman" and that Ryan could hook up with someone random the same day he's all but asked her to make a romantic choice "the last time I saw you, you kind of had your hands full"
The way that Marissa has quiet confidence in Ryan with other women is very sweet in 1x26 "what about strippers?", 2x21 "South Beach for a little spring break action?" and 3x09 "you got a lap dance?" it's actually very interesting to contrast that with Seth who kisses women in BOTH Vegas and Miami when he's still in a quasi-relationship with Summer at the time
I know for a fact I didn't answer this very eloquently (if I answered it at all) but it's a really interesting subject!
Also, considering I head canon RM being FWB in college I think it'd take a while for them to acknowledge how in love they've always been with one another. Because of their shared traumas, lingering resentments, trust issues, etc. *cue 'tis the damn season*

Okay its been a day, still rotating morph au around in my head but tbh i'm just fucked up thinking about them all and trying to put it into something coherent dhshshsh
Like Bdubs & Cleo and Scar & Grian being so close its weird, and Impulse & Tango doing the opposite bc the crastle alliance got messy
Or even like, characters who we haven't really seen yet?? Like idk if Bdubs & Cleo are so close they basically refused to split up, then hows Ren going to cope without Martyn? Tbh hows Ren going to cope with any of it bc The Red King was a lot.
Also! Idk how u made the "being dead" part of third life work lore wise but i would like to know, because like, does Cleo know Bdubs betrayed Impulse (also i'm shaking abt that one to a point of its making me wanna try write fanfic for the first time in years), does Scar know Grian killed himself???
ALSO the 2nd and final deaths leaving a lasting mark i'm vibrating rapidly abt that one (i don't have anything coherent to say i just think thats cool as fuck)
Tldr i'm rotating morph au around in my head a lot <3
!!! yeah!! 3rd life as media had such a thing with relationships that were codependent to an unhealthy extent and it's so interesting because!! how do you go from "me and this other person need to be together at all times to protect each other or we would both actually literally die" to just. interacting with them like you do with a regular friend or even partner? it's definitely something I want to explore more in the future!
and. um. **looks over at the ren-centric chapter sitting in my google doc** funny story. the ren chapter was initially supposed to be much heavier, but I. um. had one too many breakdowns while writing it and had to make it lighter. (the Martyn oneshot is still a w.i.p but it. definitely exists. it'll hopefully be done by the time the current fic is all up!).
I don't want to talk about it too in-depth right now, since I want to elaborate on it in the future, but in my opinion ren and martyn arguably had the most codependent relationship of all the duos, so them being the only two to be separated...
no one knows what happened after their final deaths. so no, scar doesn't know and cleo doesn't know. I actually put a lot of thought into that part.
if you write anything for this au I would literally cry/pos, it sounds too good to be true almost.
ALSO, one thing I like about the scars is that for some people, they're not necessarily visible at a first glance, maybe some players would actively try to hide them, even, which just...I don't have a point, but the idea makes me feel things.
I, too, am rotating morph in my head. in the last couple of days I have actually been rotating the cursed morph timeline from when I tried to figure out how long 3rd life took. I am putting it in the microwave like a bowl of soup.
I am coping by drawing a mlp hermitcraft 8 au in my sketchbook, I am very stable as you can see\hj
LOVED this ask. thank u <3

if it's interesting to anyone i did wake up in better dispositions about taylor aka i do get how seeing buck and lucy together made her feel threatened because like. we've all been saying that Buck is a terrible liar because he just is, and it's not that hard to put two and two together about buck being incredibly awkward about his new colleague and the fact that he kissed a woman the day he met said colleague. Especially since when someone cheats on you, you obviously become a little more paranoid about his interactions with new people, especially when the problem wasn't really solved between you two.
I do still think her reaction is completely out of line though lmao and really not excusable (as in lucy didn't deserve it, and especially not right after the day she had) but i feel less annoyed about how it all came together, I just hope that they finally kill the dying animal BT has become once and for all in the coming episodes

It's been bothering me seeing some comments in the dw fandom along the lines of "ugh most female companions were like 18-19, barely adults" or "what a creep" (I've seen this especially directed towards the Doctor and Rose's relationship) and I'm just like... YOU ARE MISSING THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE SHOW. The Doctor isn't some kind of predatorial weirdo with a fetish for young girls, they're just a space wanderer that tries to do good and fix things and they just happen to meet (1/3)
some brilliant people along the way and they invite them on board! They literally say yes!!! DW is about ordinary people discovering the wonders of the universe and having adventures, it may have its flaws, but there isn’t an ounce of weird sexual subtext or advances towards companions in the ENTIRE SHOW, they are always treated with utmost respect in that sense. And trying to judge Rose’s relationship with the Doctor through that lens is just wrong and a total misinterpretation (2/3)
Sorry this turned out saltier than expected, but I’d like to know what you think (3/3)
okay, forgive me, i’m gearing up for a rant here...
Tumblr media
you know what’s interesting? people who are bothered by the age gap between the doctor and rose, but aren’t bothered by a certain character being literally born - groomed from childhood, you might say - to be obsessed with the doctor. or a child who spent her whole life in an abandoned house, waiting for the man in the blue box to come back, and her immediately falling for him despite literally being engaged. i’m interested in why people seem to apply this incredibly harsh lens to rose’s time on the show, claiming that she’s too young, claiming that the doctor was taking advantage of her, but they don’t really notice that there are other, more pressing examples of actual imbalanced, unhealthy relationships shown on doctor who.
you see, the problem - for me, anyway - is agency.
i can agree that some characters throughout the show have been intensely lacking in agency. they’ve been coerced into traveling with the doctor, or manipulated in some way. they’ve even been caught on the ship by accident. they’ve done it out of obligation, or guilt, or fear.
but rose is not one of those characters.
when the doctor meets rose, he saves her and then expects nothing of her. he intends to leave her alone, until circumstances throw them together again.
when the doctor invites rose to come along with him, she says no. and he even leaves - though he does come back and ask again, obviously. but she has the option not to go.
when rose is trapped with him on platform one, she gripes about not being able to call a cab. he fixes her phone for her, so she can call home.
rose has agency, almost constantly throughout the show. she always has the option to go home; in fact, one of the central points of nine’s run is his promise to always bring her home to her mother. and he doesn’t just try to give her that agency - rose demands it. because, whether she’s nineteen or ninety, she was written as a woman who is intensely curious, compassionate, and able to make her own decisions.
sure, she’s young. but she has agency. that’s why we all like her so much, and why rose fans feel like she’s more than a match for the doctor, despite not being a bespoke, custom-bred secret agent designed to snog the doctor.
and on that subject, saying that all the female companions were super young is erasure of about fifty years of companions who weren’t. it’s literally just factually wrong. i guess barbara and polly and liz and jo and romana (though she’s not human, so idk) and tegan and melanie and all the others who were in their twenties and beyond... can just get fucked? i mean, i’m certainly not an expert in the timelines of every classic who companion, but they certainly haven’t all been teenagers, and they definitely weren’t all romantic partners or something. the doctor isn’t a serial teenage-kidnapper. that’s not a thing.
tl;dr - you’re right and also rose is fabulous because she has agency and also people who want to gripe about her should probably stop tagging her name or use an anti tag so the rest of us don’t have to suffer through this nonsense.

I agree with Kishimoto never trying to use the girls. The hate they get is not fair. I used to defend Sakura back in the days because I hoped kishi would do her justice. When shippuden started I WAS SO HAPPY because I thought this was the start of something great for Sakura and the girls but NOOOOO. Every time, Sasuke showed kishi turned her brainless. If you compare Naruto's actions and Sakura's actions to sasuke, you'd see they're completely different. What's up with that weird fake love confession scene 😭? It makes her look like she was manipulating Naru. JEEZ.
Also he literally had badass Tenten and Temari with cool useful abilities and he didn't use them ?! TF ?! Thank god for modern authors who treat their characters with respect :)
okay2 you know how i am with these longass rants so click readmore and brace yourselves
The way I see it, Sakura's character development in shippuden was always one step forward, two steps back. She gets this really badass scene (like her fight with Sasori and those cool ass medical skills) but is then regressed back into a pining girl in love every time Sauce is on screen or Kishi just throws her in the background YET AGAIN.
I love Sakura's abilities actually. Her brute strength, intelligence, vast knowledge and skill as a medic nin. But what I dislike about her character is how kishi handled her feelings for Sasuke. Naruto and Sakura's obsession with Sasuke was so???? huh??? it was so damn toxic and i never once understood why both Nardo and Sak were so obsessed with him. They were a team for one year???? I mean its great that they care about him alot but Sauce's feelings were kinda valid. His freakin clan died. Id go batshit crazy against my own village too. BUT BESIDES THAT. Both Nart and Sakura's Sasuke obsession was so annoying. 80% of shippuden was literally Keeping up with the Uchihas or Naruto yelling SASUKEH. BUT what irks me so much is the fandom's double standards with both Naruto and Sakura. "Oh Sakura shouldve gotten over her Sasuke obsession" but then turn around and call Naruto's obsession cute and gush about how he's so in love with him!!
Hot take but the only reason why sasunaru is "the most developed ship with the most chemistry" is because theyre both male characters.
I guarantee you if Naruto was a girl and SHE would be the one to have this unhealthy obsession who was chasing around Sasuke, the fandom would shit on Naruto just as much. And if Sasuke were a girl, Sauce would be sidelined like the rest of the female cast and Naruto would have another male character to have a "brotherly bond" with, because thats the only bond Kishimoto is actually good at developing. Yey for male characters having all the screentime and cool assets <333
And about that confession scene, I get her intentions. I really do. I understand that she did that in order to bring him home and that she cares about him but honey, w-why?? Why lie to him about your feelings?? Supposed he DID believe her, then what? then what kishi???? huh??? Some of her fans point the blame on Sai or whatever but I personally dont see why that scene was at all necessary. Maybe to establish Naruto's feelings for her wasnt all that serious? or his maturity? idk man. That scene was such a clusterfuck.
In the end her development in The Last and in Boruto was immaculate. She had one of the best glow ups in the old gen and ironically enough, her character wasn't butchered in Boruto. She got badass scenes she was cheated from in shippuden. I also love how she's finally getting the spotlight she deserves. Unlike the other konoha 12 :,)))
Okay onto the next female character that Kishi completely wasted. My baby. My light. 🙈 AAAHHH HINATAA.
I DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN OKAY2 DEEP BREATHS.
Let me just establish this real quick. Hinata's goal was to get stronger because of Naruto, her goal was never to be with Naruto. She wanted to become someone who is worthy enough to stand beside him, someone whom he can consider as an equal, as a partner. She NEVER once said "marrying Naruto-kun is my all time goal UwU" (if youre one of those weirdos who interpret her character that way, youre immediately invalid, go take a hike)
I personally dont have anything against their crushes but to the point of making their personalities revolve around these guys every time theyre onscreen is so fucking frustrating. And with the way he writes their dialogues is so.damn.cringey. Like that one scene in the war arc with Tsunade and Madara
"I mAy bE a WomAn but I aM nOt WeAAKKKK"
BAAHAHAAHHA WHAT?? Everyone else gets coolass monologues and one liners but thats the best you can come up with Kishi?????? Hilarious.
If im being honest. Hinata's character is actually kinda well written. Not well executed. Dear God no. But with the way he set her story, her personality, her chracterization. She's honestly one of the best written female characters on the show. IMO. By Kishi's standards of writing women ofc. She's hands down one of the most complex characters. Her shy personality wasnt out of the blue, it wasnt a cutesy waifu trait. Her abusive upbringing made her that way. Her trauma turned her that way. So yeah, sue her if she looked up to Naruto as an inspiration when everyone else in her family treated her like dust. Shit on her for having Naruto's love light in her dark when her own damn father wouldnt even look her in the eye and her entire clan shunned her because she was "weak." She doesnt owe her family shit so idgaf what they do with the Hyuga clan. Neji and Hanabi aren't included btw
Im not gonna deny that her role in the show was only as the love interest but tbh for a love interest, Im glad her character wasnt so one dimensional. It just pains me SO MUCHHH how fucking wasted she is. Every time she's with Naruto, they always make her into a damsel in distress. They always feel the need to turn Naruto into the heroic prince. How cute.
LIKE THAT ONE SCENE IN THE LAST WHERE SHE'S THROWN IN THE CAGE?? WHY??? LET NARUTO AND HINA FIGHT THAT FREAKING ALIEN GOD TOGETHER. QUIT WITH THE TOXIC MASCULINITY. WE GET IT. NARUTO'S STRONG. GOOD FOR HIM. NOW LETS SEE HINATA THROW HANDS AND PUT NARUTO IN THE CAGE GODAMMIT
Hnggggg dont get me started with her role in Boruto. She's as relevant as a damn houseplant in the manga. They made her into an invisible trophy wife and "the mc's mother" and we all KNOW what happens to the shounen mc's mother once mc is in need of character development :) Quit putting her in the background. Give us that scene where she won against Hanabi DESPITE being retired for years. Give us that scene where she trains Boruto. GIVE US ANY FIGHT SCENE OF HER WHERE HER POTENTIAL ISNT WASTED WTF?¿
Now if you say that Hinata didnt have development. YOURE INVALID. She came from an abusive household, the shyest girl in her class, her insecurities got in the way of her own confidence, had difficulty of standing up for herself now became a loving mother of two, has the guts to kick her husband out of the house(with whom she couldnt even keep eye contact with when she was a kid) became the strongest hyuga, most supportive wife and mother, and has given her kids the comforting childhood she never had as a kid.
She has one of the most beautiful stories in the show and if you think her personality is only Naruto-kun and big boobs, then im sorry that you cant appreciate such a heartwarming story.
And I agree, killing her would honestly make me feel more at ease than continue to see her suffer because of godawful misogynistic writers. But at least let her die in an epic fight. Please. PLEASEE. She got nerfed so bad, i feel a physical pain every time i think about it
Tumblr media
Okay what else. I think Ino got pretty good development. Another wasted potential in shippuden but she's doing good for herself in Boruto. I dont know what Temari is up to. They basically made her into another classic angry mom who beats up her husband for comedy trope. Haha very funny and original! Im not sure with her career, im not that invested in the anime.
Tenten??
oh G O D Tenten. The dirtiest of all. Her jokes about her screentime is so mean and i hate that its true ahsjhs. She was the only female character in OG who's goal wanted to be as strong as Tsunade but what did Kishi do to her?? Sidelined. Forgotten. Irrelevant. Like every damn female on the show :D
Konan shouldnt have died. I blame plot armor. I know in my heart that Konan wouldve kicked Obito's ass if it weren't for Kishi's boomer mindset.
Tsunade had so much hype when she was introduced but died down in the war arc. Madara wiped the floor with the kages. Holy shit. Not only that, but yipee! Naruto is there to save the day AGAIN!!!!
AND UGHHHH If the female characters were given proper treatment then maybe MAYBE all the endgame couples wouldve made fucking sense????¿¿¿
I think that ends my rant. Im not sure how the female characters in Boruto are handled. Except maybe Sarada (she's pretty well executed in the manga imo). But arguably they are sooo much better handled in Boruto than how the old gen girls were. And thats because Kishi isnt anywhere near the new gen female cast. I cant formulate a solid opinion with the other new gen female cast since im not entirely invested in the anime. Not ashamed to admit that I only watch it for the sunshine moments and for Hinata :DD

Hi. So I was watching a Gilmore Girls marathon yesterday..they were on season 7. I am familiar with the show even if I haven't watched all of it. What's the deal with Marty lying about knowing Rory to his gf? I think she was also pretty good friends with her at that point..so what was she supposed to do in that situation when he acts like they never met? Did he do that because he still had a crush on Rory or something? And I think he also hates Logan cuz Rory rejected him and got with Logan..right? Is it ever even explained? I kinda get why Rory wouldn't say anything..cuz it might cause problems for Marty's relationship..like she would ask him why did he lie..but he was just never gonna tell her either..which is weird. Idk what I would do in the situation..but they agreed to go to dinner..then Logan tells her the truth..which didn't help..but his gf was more mad at Rory for not telling her? What happens after that? I will watch it eventually but I find the whole plotline weird. Season 7 just seemed a lot different..I guess cuz Lorelai and Chris were together..and the Luke and April drama..idk. I mean I think Lorelai and Chris sort of work..more as friends maybe than being in love and he doesnt fit in her life or town like Luke does..but parent weekend was kinda cute. I kinda missed it..did she just randomly elope with Chris cuz she wanted to with Luke before she slept with him? She is just impulsive..Rory said she would talk her out of it lol. Also why do people say Rory and Logans relationship is unhealthy? I mean I know their relationship started differently..but he told her he didnt want a gf first and then became a pretty good bf after..and maybe they are not thinking of season 7 anyway...but from what I saw..it is. Even when they disagree, they talk it out, she took care of him when he got hurt, the love rocket! But I get this is all in season 7...so I guess that's why people don't like him. Even still, it doesn't make sense to compare it to Jess cuz they were still more serious than her and Jess before that too. I think all the relationships including Lorelai have good and bad things too. Sorry this is long..but I just wanted to ask you about these and how you felt about season 7 in general compared to the rest of the show?
yeah season 7 is definitely a bit of a weird season and does have a slightly different feel because the sherman-palladinos don't write it. I do still like it (more than a lot of fans I think) but a lot of the choices the writers make are sort of confusing. the whole thing with marty feels like they're trying to dredge up the old rory/logan/marty triangle even though that was barely a thing to begin with. I can see why rory was in an awkward situation not really knowing whether to go along with pretending they didn't know each other. it also just sort of fizzles out like rory apologises to lucy and it turns out lucy and marty breakup anyway so it was a sort of pointless storyline.
I can kind of appreciate the reasoning behind lorelai and christopher because I think chris was always sort of lorelai's one that got away and it was only in giving their relationship a real shot that she realises they weren't meant to be. I do enjoy watching their dynamic but the thing that bugs me with them in s7 really is just the fact they elope without telling rory, it seems out of character considering lorelai wouldn't marry luke until her rift with rory was over because rory is too important to leave out of something like that.
I agree about rory and logan and I think that's one of the strengths of season 7, because the original plan was probably just to have logan go off to london and choose his family over rory and that be the end of them, but actually developing their relationship is a lot more interesting. obviously they're still not perfect but I think rory and logan in season 7 (up until the last couple of episodes 😬) are one of the healthiest relationships and best examples of good communication on the show!
