i literally need to give the biggest disclaimer known to man here. i do not play fgo. everything i know about him is thru people who Do play explaining him to me, wikireading, and tumblr posts. yes i am part of the problem i am the exact type of person i complain about who doesnt consume the source material and only gets their knowledge secondhand. However. fgo is a gacha game. So that nullifies any moral guilt i might feel. but ill also be so embarassed if anyone who actually plays the game sees this and fact checks me. hasarjunadoneanythingwrong if this shows up in the tags please scroll past this i'll cry

but ive literally read the bhagavad gita so thats at least +10 elitism points. but i digress.

this is arjuna. everyone say hi arjuna. he's the greatest hero of the mahabharata, the indian epic. actually, hi digital devil saga fan, he's the son of indra, and his bow, gandiva, was a gift from agni. in the bhagavad gita, he's a warrior forced to kill his family members on the other side of the war. he basically commits himself to being the perfect warrior but he isn't allowed to be an actual person. in fgo in particular, i'm told, this manifests into a particular obsession with his brother karna, thinking of them as fated rivals. he's proud, noble and dignified, and diligent, but he's awkward with matters concerning himself. he's very concerned with appearances and how a hero should act, what people think of him, being loved. he has what he considers a "dark side" which is that he'll do anything for victory, for his pride, including underhanded tactics which are unbefitting of a hero. he initially says his wish from the holy grail is eternal solitude, basically so he doesn't have to worry about what people think of him anymore. then, after you, his master, see his dark side, and still accept him for who he is, his wish changes--to remain with you until the end.

i love him because hes basically a subversion of another certain archer i love. fate sure loves its archetypes but he really is so different from him. im not saying his name because ive been forcing some people who follow me to watch ubw but if you know then you know who im talking about. anyway arjuna is my poor little meow meow and hes also the most beautiful fgo character no question like no one would ever argue with me its just objective fact. you know i love guys with a facade, and i also love guys who are cocky to hide their insecurities. amd the fact that hes so deeply deeply sad and lonely under all of that is basically the perfect combination

Using Sage and Nyx!

[1] How big a part does romance play in your novel?

Not much, actually! My goal is for it to be a subtle growth up until the very end where everything just clicks together. As I get it written (oh god when?), pay attention to their actions towards it other! Love doesn’t have to be out right stated!

But it’s not like the genre of the story.

[2] What is the nature of the romance in the story? Are there any tropes it follows? (Infatuation at first sight, enemies to lovers, best friends to lovers, etc?)

I’m not sure? I mean, they were fated to meet. However, not fated to fall in love.

Enemies(?) to friends to lovers, I suppose.

Also forbidden love because the assassin falls in love with the victim ;) I’m making that canon!

[3] Why did you decide to pair specifically these two characters? What makes their relationship compelling?

It honestly just happened. I was thinking about it one day, and it was like.

“I want these two to be a couple.” And in the Silas fashion, dramatically worried about it because I didn’t want it to take away the story.

[4] How do you handle your characters’ chemistry?

I’m not sure I understand this question too well, but here goes.

I handle it like I would any other couple--I show their positives and negatives. They do fight, especially in the very beginning, but they do also support each other. There’s no guilt tripping, no mind games and games at all. Both of them are grown women, after all, so they would rather try to talk it out (though Nyx does need some prompting--and that’s okay!)

Instead of outright having them fall in love, they work towards it because they’re strangers and Nyx was there to kill a beloved family member--so Sage isn’t going to immediately want to sleep with her. So I’m trying to show how they develop a strong bond and eventually do fall in love. I’m also one of those people who believes you don’t have to write characters kissing/having sex/out right saying they love each other to prove they’re in love.

After all, there is a love language.

I ranted. I’m sorry aha.

[5] At which point in your story do your characters realize that they’re in love?

Miiid way through? Nyx is lamenting over something Zephyr says, and it sort of dawns on her that she feels something so much more for Sage than she’d like to admit.

And she wants to find a workaround than what her original mission was. Because she honestly wants to spend the rest of her life with Sage, but she also wants to save her loved ones and the world.

Yeah. Tragic.

you know, i was so excited for revelation because i really really loved the conquest characters and i was like yes!! finally i can get all the friendship supports and get the child/parent supports and just so supports because i think the characters would mesh and not worry that they’re the same class or one’s magical and one’s physical but instead i was given the royals, selena, beruka, and laslow and peri WAY LATE that still were just Okay but so much better comparatively to the rest of those nohr shits that are just tossed at you with a note saying “lol have fun with this garbage” and it was just way less fun to grind them all while the hoshidans carried the team. why are the hoshidans so favoured??? it would have just made sense gameplay-wise to taken turns giving you hoshidan and nohrian units instead of dumping all the hoshidans on you then all the nohrians (without even bothering to scale them!!!), and saying woahh check this Cool Thing that is one of the selling points of rev where you can support nohrians and hoshidans when strategically (and fire emblem is supposed to be a strategy game!!) it makes little sense to actually do it unless you feel its worth the classes!! it’s just such a letdown! is it too much to ask for good tactical gameplay that also incorporates the fun features?? is it???!!

#so im really excited for the gaiden remake :)#lmao but really overall i think i was happier with fates than most fans #i actually really enjoy conquest even though most regard it as Pretty Bad #but i was just so let down by rev #it was more of a chore to grind all those characters and i know i didnt have to #but i just wanted that s support then some cool children characters with at least okay skills #i played conquest first and it was really hard and i really enjoyed it but i missed the simpler things #like not getting to a on the sibling and child/parent supports #so i did normal/classic on birthright next which was way way to easy and ended up being pretty boring by the end #but i did read all the supports i wanted #so then i was so pumped for rev which was middle of the road difficulty #but with grinding and nohr characters so i could finally read those supports and use charlotte without crying #but then i was just given all the hoshido characters and i was like... cool... but im sick of these guys... this is not what i came for #and i really wanted to do the hoshido/nohr supports #and i like ok i guess storywise it makes sense then hoshidans would be persuaded first then the nohrians #then the nohrians finally came and i was like??? no???#it stamped my light out #it made it less fun and ruined the tactics a bit #in a game thats supposed to be fun and tactical!#i did not plan to rant in the tags again #i am sorry i think i caught feelings #fe fates #fire emblem #fire emblem fates #fire emblem revelations
