"Its impossible to shop 100% ethically" but its possible to fucking try no? Just because you cant guarantee that the brands who claim ethics are 100% honest doesnt justify shopping from brands that actively have reports of monsterous behaviour. There is always an alternative, thrift stores, buy nothing groups, second hand apps, or LEARN TO SEW!!!! It will change your life. But end of the day, you will live without your £4 shein blouse, cute clothes are not a fucking necessity. If you truly put having your ideal wardrobe over someones life, someones family , the planets welbeing... i think your selfish. Like actually fucking selfish. You dont need to buy 3 outfits a month btw, if you dont buy any new clothes for 2 months, just wear what you already own... you can buy a lovely garment from ethical brands that will LAST!!! Also, the argument that shein makes jobs is BULLSHIT!! Because all it does is close the gap in the market for ethical brands to emerge. The fashion industry if constantly growing and evolving, there will be brands and jobs if shein is taken down. Or !!!!! Alternatively, dont shut shein down, billionaire chris xu... pay your fucking workers. BILLIONAIRE chris xu, put some money into not KILLING your workers. Im sure you'll get a lot more clothes out of them when they can afford to eat.

Do you struggle finding clothes your size at all? Any recommendations where to buy plus size clothes?
i do! im kind of particular about clothes. personally i shop from:
torrid (only sales, up to 6x, runs small imo)
layne bryant (only underwear)
hottopic (lots of cute stuff, i think up to 5x
target (usually wild fable, runs bigger, up to 4x)
old navy (also generous sizing, up to 4x)
im kind of sized out of shein, personally, but i used to get some stuff from there too. i try to stick with stretchy fabrics no matter where i shop

My second point in that comment i made which I feel needs to be elaborated on.
Re:overconsumption and the aesthetic of overconsumption.
I'm not saying you don't deserve to have nice things. But I am saying we live in a capitalistic society and it's killing the planet, contributing to unethical labor practices, and ruining your relationship to money.
Let me elaborate: yes, corporations produce a huge amount of pollution. They do a lot of damage to the planet. But that does no absolve you from making the best decisions you can. These companies make products and they sell them. To consumers. Like you and me. There are specialists creating advertisements to get you to buy things. This has been getting worse in recent years due to the rise of influencer culture and the idolization of people like the Kardashians.
But it's not just cosmetics abd clothes and shoes im talking about, pollution comes from every product, and tech is actually one of the worst. People blame agriculture for producing methane and using a lot of water but realistically, where else are you gonna get your food? How else can we feed millions?
I'm getting off topic. Thus post is specifically about the aestheticization of overconsumption and why it's bad.
We all know Shein is bad. It's fast fashion, the people who make the clothes are exploited, the materials are sourced in a way that is ecologically damaging. Look up the Ural sea, which was an inland ocean destroyed by cotton farming.
What about flashier brands? I'm sorry, but yes, they are also damaging to the planet. And let's be honest, how many pairs of heels do you need? How many lipsticks? Do they actually fulfill a purpose in your life, beyond giving you a little bit of joy when you put it in your shopping cart?
I get it, the hit of dopamine you get feels amazing. Feeling like you have social status feels really good too. You have been conditioned to feel this way by decades of specially targeted marketing and societal pressures. It's no different from diet culture, really.
Saying that you need expensive products to fit the coquette aesthetic is wrong. Predatory, even. Theres a good video by The Financial Diet on how Sex and the City ruined a generation of women's relationship with their money. It has only gotten worse since then.
Telling other people they need to buy things and look a certain way is contributing to the problem. Nobody has the money for this. Don't rack up credit card debt or even make a lifestyle out of begging men to buy you crap. Don't tell other people they need to do it either, that's plain wrong.
Especially in the coquette community, where there are a lot of young people. Young people are vulnerable to peer pressure and do not always make the best financial choices.
Shopping does not equal femininity. That is a vast cultural stereotype that women love shopping and spending too much money on things that are frivolous. This is why I say a lot of those proconsumeristic women both here on tumblr, on insta, youtube, etc, swallowed a boomer meme and made it their personality.
You do not need dior. You do not need to spend a lot of money on things that will fall out of fashion. You are trying to keep up in a race you will never win. Find your own sense of fashion, be your own person, and divorce femininity from shopping.

wanna share some tips for sustainable fashion, because its important to me :]
ok so everyone knows by now that fast fashion bad, im not gonna sit here and go into that and i encourage you to do your own research! The point of this is how to be more sustainable with clothing to help out the environment WHILE being able to follow current “fashion trends” :]
* note: the point of this is not to shame anyone who has ever shopped fast fashion. we all have. the point of this is how to reduce ur own carbon footprint and be mindful of the impact you yourself are making on the environment
firstly lets talk about donation sites like goodwill, salvation army, etc. Donating your old clothes is obviously not evil in of itself - the problem occurs when people overconsume; they buy huge hauls of clothes once a week that go out of style by the time they have their next haul. and then theyre donating these huge hauls of (typically poor quality as well) clothing to goodwill super super often. this surplus of donations causes more clothes to end up in landfills (goodwill dumps all of their clothes that dont get bought ). The top result on google says that it takes 200+ years for clothes to decompose in landfills, and that textiles generate greenhouse gases and toxic chemicals into our water and soil.
so step one is to stop overconsuming. you dont need to buy multiple items of clothing every single week. even if you donate it, your actions are still harmful. it may be hard to stop this, especially if buying clothes this way is an outlet for you, and i understand that, but this is really the first step to being more sustainable. (i can make a guide to help with overconsumption if ppl want, but i dont want this post to get too lengthy)
secondly, learn that fashion trends literally arent real. and since were in the age of technology and short video platforms cough TikTok cough, fashion trends last MUCH shorter than they used to in previous decades. Look at that weird pattern sweater dress thing that went viral for about a week before ppl got tired of it.
create your own, unique style, with pieces that you can keep in your closet for years and years.
obviously, following fashion trends is inevitable, especially for younger people. if this is the case for you, dont blindly follow fashion trends. make sure you actually like what youre purchasing, and that you wont toss it the second it goes “out of style”
next step shop second hand!! this ones obvious and ill commend our generation because were already super good at it! :] heres some tips to be sustainable while doing so:
buy clothes that will last. Once again leaving trends out of it. Do you actually like the piece, or is it just trendy?
do you have a piece like this already?
get clothes that can be styled in multiple different ways if you can!!!! this means that youll be able to keep them for longer esp if its something that wont ever go out of style :)
and lastly, the most important tip (imo) keep your freaking clothes.
keep them for years, decades even. Keep them for your kids! wont have kids? give them to your friends, family, etc. fashion trends always always cycle, so if youre throwing something out because its out of style, maybe try keeping it for a few years! itll come back in style, and you wont have to rush out and buy the over priced version :]
remember how cool it was to inherit your parents old ass clothes from the 80s/90s? you had real vintage to show off! keep your clothes!
the item is worn out! Upcyle! T shirt tote bags are super easy to make, and everyone always needs cleaning rags. be creative ! ive seen headbands, bags, new items of clothing, key chains, etc. maybe this is even an opportunity to learn a new hobby!
thats all ive got for now! feel free to rb and add on your tips/ how you stay sustainable/ corrections to my information. Mina Le has a spectacular video on overconsumption and fast fashion trends called “The Cult of Shein” if you want to learn more :]

omg please share what makes you stop buying fast fashion? :D and how do you practice it lol when was the last time you bought new garments? oh sorry for bombarded with a lot of questions, im just curious xD hope you dont mind sharing!
i dont mind at all! it actually started with me getting into street fashion last year. i started paying more attention to brands and street wear culture. street fashion has a big subculture in thrifting and while following people on yt/insta the topic of fast fashion gets brought up a lot. its common knowledge by now that the cheaper a garment is, the less the worker who made it got paid. we studied the topic of sweat shops in school too but then i didnt have an income and we all just constantly went shopping without a thought. but now i have the means and the money to either buy second hand (which i do a lot) or ethically (which is harder bc i dont know many ethical clothing brands in europe, most are american).
i try to buy less clothes, and ive been able to cut back drastically this year. i still bought a few shirts and three sweaters from zara, uniqlo etc though in the last months :/ , its still hard to find stuff (esp trousers) but i love using ebay (bc thrift shops here arent like those in america SADLY). i think from my closet the stuff i bought used are my favorite pieces now.
i also dont have anything against people that still buy fast fashion, i also go shopping with my friends. i just try to stop myself from impulse buying stuff, which is working quite well id say. as long as everyone knows about the industry and maybe keeps it in mind next time they wanna buy on shein/fashionova or go into primark i think thats a first step in the right direction. if anyone is interested in knowing more about this topic, there is a really good documentary on netflix called ‘the true cost’.

Lulus Bag $40
Shein Order $86
Book Order $25
Botox appt tomorrow, hair appointment this Saturday, pups need food and I need new groceries. Am I done yet lol but Palm Springs here we come!
I want to do some spring cleaning today and sell even more stuff. I should film the try on video today too. Gotta make some content and sell stuff to makeup for all of these purchases! Also I'm thinking about returning a dress from Target, and I can return my entire Shein order and lulus order for a refund if I hate it. I will most likely return the pillowcase I got from kitsch because one pillowcase as my center piece pillow is actually just fine. Once I started going slightly crazy again with shopping now I want to just return or cut back. Honestly I might return my entire target order because it was such an impulse, but the pillow is a gift for mom. IDK.
Things with Joel were feeling weird this past week and I know its the way I reacted about the palm spring thing, but I was feeling like something was up even before that. Like that day at the office when I was so close to asking T out for a drink or texting K and now that I think back on it I'm so fucking relieved because I would have embarrassed myself anyway and trouble was bound to happen. I cant put my finger on it this time. Work is going much better, im actively taking care of my health, we have friends and things to look forward to, trips planned, a full social calendar, I have new clothes on the way, I have plans to do spring cleaning. Its the things that I know I should do that are maybe dragging me down? (setting up 401k and starting taxes)
So what is exactly wrong?
LOL I just did my taxes and I am getting money back this time. Last year I owed that much. Its definitely a good feeling. I am feeling rich but I am so far away from that.
The feeling to drink more is back. But I cant just have one I need at least 2 or 3. I wanna test myself and see if I can not have a drink on Wednesday. Kickboxing is more appealing to me than drinking
