The Hunger Games; Catching Fire

Part One

- “I try to work out what is true and what is false”

- “I’m still not entirely convinced that I was hallucinating... the floor turning into a carpet of writhing snakes”.... nope

-- So many good quotes in this first chapter alone

- “Some walks you have to take alone”

-- I wonder who were the other Capitol rebels

-- Kat’s reaction to seeing Peeta on the screen breaks my heart

-- I love the imagery when Katniss says she’s going to be the Mockingjay, with her arms slightly raised as if she had wings

- Kat about the pearl holding it to her lips “It’s soothing a cool kiss from the giver himself” --- “a token it will make until I come home to you”

- Coin: want to present Gale as your new lover? Me: oi shut it

- I love this scene for so many reasons but especially when the berries are mentioned and how they affected the different people

-- a big regret of mine was not being able to ask a teacher about why they were so shocked that Rue was cast as black... I was fifteen at the time  It doesn’t excuse me being quiet

But I was also a coward. I wasn’t even able to tell a teacher about the time a girl dry humped my head, I dropped something on the floor because she and her friends kept staring at me and laughing and I couldn’t look at them any longer so I had to duck down and when I did she got up and came over and I froze and well she grabbed my head and shoved her crotch onto the crown of my head whilst her friends laughed and the rest of class and teachers didn’t notice I have only told one person this story and that was last year

- Finnick Odair in his underwear

- I love Cressida and I want to know more about her

- I love the hospital scene for so many reasons

- Kat about the bombing: “I assumed, as usual, it was my presence that brought on punishment”

- I always love the fire is catching speech

- I love Katniss so much

- I wish we saw the tribute to the tributes videos

- I love Kat and Finnick having a meal together- though I still don’t understand why he wanted them to hide their knowledge of seeing Peeta

- I love Finnick and Kat “hunting” together

- The Hanging Tree: I never realised it was jabberjays in the “dead man called out to his love” and I hate the pop remix with a passion

- Katniss: “I could remember almost anything set to music after a round or two”

- Katniss speculating about the song is pretty spot on

- I dislike the kitchen kiss so much

- Peeta’s warning :(

Part 2

- I don’t know why but them in the bunker is a favourite scene of mine

- “I almost hiss at him too” it was crime they didn’t have JLaw hissing at Buttercup in the film

- First Peeta hijacking ref: “waging a sort of battle in his mind”

- and more chats with Prim

- and chats with Finnick

- I love Buttercup

- Plutarch x coffee was amusing

- “Glance at Finnick who gives a thumbs up- But he’s looking pretty shaky himself” -- my poor babies

- my poor precious Finnick- I wonder whom among Snow’s friends got poisoned one I am certain he poisoned is Lysistrata

-- I wonder what was going through Gale’s head when he volunteered

- Katniss is so giddy to see Peeta and well you know

- Prim telling of Plutarch is *chefs kiss*

-- Poor Portia and all the other stylists and prep teams

- “I can’t say Gale’s absences have inconvenience me”

-- I hate District 2 kiss because of that article written in 2018

-- Wraps Finnick and Annie in blankets and glares at Gale

-- I love Gwendoline Christie in the MJ 2 behind the scenes

- District 2 speech is also great and she quoted Peeta!

- the capitol having emergency supplies stockpiled... Me: i bet they have

- Oh Finnick and Annie’s wedding :)... Katniss: “Finnick loves Annie and that’s good enough for me”

- Katniss seeing Peeta makes me sad

- Poor Johanna and of course I love Johanna

- I love Finnick and I want to hear more about the sea turtle which stole his hat... hey is there any fanart of that scene?

- everyone was creeped out by Peeta threatening to steal Annie away from Finnick

- “everything screams in my dreams tonight” this line always chills me

- gulps “your squadron leader gets hit by a mortar” mortal being a type of bomb

- I love the pine needle sachet that Katniss makes Johanna

Part Three

- I dislike Haymitch at times and this lecture of his is one of them

- I love Jackson for coming up with Real or Not Real

- I love Mitchell trying to act

-- Looks at Cressida with huge heart eyes

- the best brotp Finnick x Peeta

- “now this place tastes like the arena”

- I love Messalla’s moment about the centre unit

- Peeta with Pollux

- “Katnisss” Me: shit x3000

- “Snow can’t tolerate looking like a fool”

- everytime Finnick’s ***** gets me and I just love my boy

- “don’t let him take you from me”

- Tigris! is in Ballad fucking fight me on this

- “my face runs into a hanging chain and I pull it”... snorts

- Jagged sutures and smear on cream vs gently rinsing and bandaging

- “I know it happened and yet it doesn’t seem real” *whimpers*

- the guy who was mistaken for Peeta :|

- Tigris and the can of salmon

- all the next events are a lotTM

- and then Prim and the medics died

-- did you know there are people who were angry at Katniss for not showing emotion after Prim died? No well there were and I don’t like them

- Snow: snake eyes again; about Prim: so wasteful

- Haymitch: “more boy trouble” Katniss: “I don’t know why, but this hurts me in a way Haymitch rarely can”-- Thoughts?

- what happened to Effie

- I still Katniss voted yes because she wanted Coin to think she was still on her side

- “Its all over when the Mockingjay sings”... “hour after hour of ballads, love songs and mountain airs”

- I love Greasy Sae

- I really want to know what was going through Peeta’s head when he decided to dig up evening primrose bushes

- “flakes of skin the size of playing cards” owie ouch ow ow nope

Bonus CF: I love Mags just wanting a nap

- poor Buttercup and Katniss I just love them bonding

- growing back together is something I love... does anyone have good fic recs for growing back together?

- I love the description for toast babies so much

-- “I make a list of every act of goodness I’ve seen someone do” I remember I had a very bad day and I was reading this scene and was looking at this blank notebook I had and thought why not and just have this small notebook with a few different stories of kindness in it and things I drew a picture of the blue mockingjay on it and a dandelion

- “Much worse games to play” It took me awhile to understand what this meant and I understand now

It was kind of a ride rereading this series again especially after Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and you know what I still love this series and these characters

I don’t see Lucy Gray turning into Coin but I do see them as being related

The Hunger Games might be a young adult series, but it deals with some extremely heavy themes of war, violence, and oppression. However, while the main core of the story is about a rebellion against an evil government, there are also many important friendships and romantic relationships in the series. But, since there is so much going in regards to survival, there are many characters who could have been friends that never got the chance to be.

These are the characters that would have made good friends based on factors such as personality, morality, and their viewpoints on the world. And, while some of the characters have interacted, others never met at all in the canon.

10 President Snow and President Coin

While this might not seem like it makes a lot of sense at first given that these two characters were the leaders on opposite sides of the war, they were both horrible presidents in their own ways.

Circumstances made them enemies, but they were truthful were both rather ruthless and in love with power and control. If they had been raised in the same place, they might have actually gotten along somewhat or been like friendly rivals.

9 Plutarch Heavensbee and Haymitch Abernathy

This is another matchup that might seem a bit strange at first but that makes more sense when you think about it. Both of these men have somewhat gruff exteriors, and while they do want the rebellion to win the war, they aren’t always the most welcoming and kind people.

While they don’t have a friendship per se in the story, they do know each other. The only issue is that Haymitch is more attached to Katniss while Plutarch views her more as a tool.

8 Effie Trinket and Tigris

While Effie Trinket and Tigris likely would have known each other to some extent as they would have run in similar circles in The Capitol, fans never hear or see them interacting. However, they could have gotten along.

They were both rather extreme in their own ways when it came to a sense of style, although Tigris made Effie look tame in comparison. They also have a lot of privileges in the Capitol but do have some level of compassion for others.

7 Commander Paylor and Gale Hawthorne

Commander Paylor actually becomes President of Panem after President Coin is killed, and seeing as how Gale stays in District 2 and works at some high-up job, they might cross paths at times. They are both rather serious people and devoted to the jobs they do and the people they serve.

Fans don’t know all that much about Paylor as she’s only in a few scenes, but it’s not that hard to imagine these two working together and getting along at least on a professional level.

6 Gale Hawthorne and Peeta Mellark

This is another duo that many fans might disagree with, give that these two are set up as rivals in the story because they are both in love with Katniss. However, in a different story set up, they might have gotten along.

They both are from District 12 and knew the difficulties of life there, and while they do have very different personalities, they could have provided some balance to one another.

5 Cressida and Katniss

While Cressida doesn’t have a huge role in the books compared to some characters, what she does is rather important. She’s an intelligent and creative person who left the Capitol to use her skills to fight against Snow.

Because of this, she and Katniss could have had a lot of common ground. Katniss was never great at making friends, but Cressida also seems quite no-nonsense in a way that would have made her a good support for Katniss.

4 Madge Undersee and Katniss

This friendship is actually one that does exist in the books, but it isn’t included in the movies. Madge was the daughter of the Mayor of District 12, but despite this privileged position, she was the only girl who would sit with Katniss at school.

Madge was the closest thing Katniss had to a best friend, other than Gale, when she was growing up. And, in the books, it’s actually Madge who gives Katniss the Mockingjay pin. It’s a shame the friendship wasn’t shown on screen.

3 Annie Cresta and Peeta Mellark

While these two characters did know each other and exist in the same circles, we don’t really see them interact. However, while they might not seem like the obvious pick, their personalities make them seem like they’d get along well.

They are both rather caring and compassionate people who have been through some terrible things. They are more subdued than many others around them and would probably get along in peace.

2 Katniss and Johanna Mason

While Katniss and Johanna do work together on the same side in the Quarter Quell, they definitely don’t get along. However, it would have been great to see this relationship grow more from a rivalry into a more solidified friendship.

While both women have rather strong personalities that can be abrasive to the other, they also could find ways to respect the other if they just gave the other a chance.

1 Rue and Primrose Everdeen

This friendship would be one of the most endearing possibilities from the story, but because of the tragedy of what happens to both characters, they never got to meet.

They are both around the same age and are intelligent, capable individuals who are forced to grow up too early. They both have a compassion and beauty to them, and their lives are both cut way too short.

THG: Catching Fire

Part 1

- I love the opening scene so much

- I love learning about things like Greasy Sae and how she started a collection to sponsor Kat and Peeta... I really want to know who chipped in

- poor Darius

- Katniss admits that she feels a little bit of longing when hearing Peeta’s voice

- everytime without fail Snow turns up and I am shook

“snake like“; “finding a fanged viper instead of stew“; “snake lips“; “not lie to one another“ that last quote reminds me of Gaul so much

- I love Katniss so much about Parcel Day and her joke about the prep team and her relationship with her mother improving through understanding

- I love the description of the Quarter Quell

- I love the prep team watching Mrs Everdeen braid Kat’s hair

- i love the kiss in the snow 

- Oh the chat about Victors children going into the arena... I wonder if Ceceila’s kids are okay 

- Katniss and her favourite foods

- this conservation

“Doesn’t Peeta need prepping? I ask/ Not the way you do Effie replies“

- “its good to feel his fingers entwined with mine again”

- I love Kat’s speech in District 11 and the execution is always so jarring

- Haymitch hiding the microphones

- Nights on the train!

- the “conservation” between Snow and Katniss on the night of her engagement

-- I don’t really care for parties or soup but I would go this one glare at everyone and try the pink soup

- the mockingjay as a popular icon for the Capitol must have made Snow seethe

- Peeta: maybe subduing the Districts was wrong... I wonder how different things would be if Kat repeated that to Gale

- Plutarch’s watch

- I love Madge

- I love Kat everytime I read this section I always laugh because she is so shook about Gale declaring his feelings for her

- the whipping how so many layers to it like the crowd vs the victors vs the peacekeepers etc

-- Did Leevy survive?

- I love Mrs Everdeen go into healer mode

- Katniss: chooses Gale> a few hours later> I want Peeta to comfort me

Part Two

- I love Katniss helping Bonnie and Twill

- D13 mention and the way to see it is through a mockingjays wing

- I love the east and west conservation/ them annoying the peacekeepers

- it’s cheese bun time and scrapbooking time (you know when I realised where I was I started to sing to the tune of “it’s meme time” it’s cheese bun)

- How confused and unnerved was everyone when Katniss turned on the TV? the answer is very

- Katniss and the prep team makes me happy

- The Quarter Quells are terrifying and if we get a novel about them I hope we’re not in the tributes heads

- I have... mixed feelings about Haymitch especially when he tells Katniss that she could live a hundred life times and not deserve Peeta

- my poor baby Katniss wanting to joke about the QQ to reassure her family but bursting into tears instead

- I love them all training like careers

- “my goodbyes still hanging on my lips”

- I am always so sad when the Victors get reaped

- awe sofa snuggles are the best

- I still want to know more about Madge

- Was all the poison in Haymitch’s games because there was more kids? I really want to know the thought process about the set up for this particular game

- Katniss eating the melted chocolate with a spoon is a mood

- I think I prefer this tribute parades costume then the first books

- this first interaction with Finnick and Peeta reacting to it makes me laugh-- I really do think that what happened to Finnick is what broke Snow and Tigris

- I love the knot tying teacher

- I love everyone requesting Katniss as a ally after they saw her shoot

- the hanging of Seneca Crane is something I kind of want to see from a gamemakers perspective because some broke glass because they were so shocked

- “the capitol audience is mine”

- the toasting explanation

- the victors speeches and the mockingjay dress is always my favourite thing

- I love Peeta so much and the baby bomb is always A+

- I love how Finnick and Johanna tried to join Kat and Peeta in the elevator

Part Three

- I really love Finnick and Mags and I really want to know Finnicks reaction to learning Katniss wanted Mags as a ally

- I really want to be inside his head in other words

- CPR Scene! the locket!

- “not as many (dead) as last year. But it seems like more since I know most of their names”

- Everyone applauding Peeta when he used the force field to cook the food

- “Peeta rubs a tense spot between my shoulders and I let myself relax a little”-- anyone got massage fics for everlark?

-- You know I wasn’t planning on rereading THG but during/and after Ballad I kept thinking about it and well obviously here I am

- oh acid fog... here we go

- I love Finnick cheering them on

- “Maybe because they are shiny with tears” :(

- the morphling protecting Peeta is another event I want to know the things leading up to it

- Peeta talking to the morphling is just so good

- I love Katniss and Finnick waking Peeta up it is a crime that was not in the film

- i love Johanna looking at Kat with loathing and Katniss wondering if this is what it felt like to have an older sister

-- I remember reading the scene where Katniss realises that the arena is a clock really clearly from the first time I read the book in 2012
