I tried writing out a plot summary but it got messy with all the factions so I thought I’d show you part one of my characters!
United Kapalia is a kingdom torn apart by ethnic strife between the majority Kapalians and minority Hosians. As tensions escalate, and civil war becomes inevitable, the previously interlooocking institutions of monarchy, army and religion begin to crumble and no person’s allegiance can truly be trusted.
PART ONE: MY MAIN MEN! (L-R)
Lukas (Kapal)
Lord Lex of the Southern Bridges Province, the most strategically important province in United Kapalia and the area with the largest Hosian population. Becomes the King’s Glove (think GofT Hand) to Gregoric. Advises him to abandon King Ifan’s policy of oppression and convince the Hosians that he will be a different sort of monarch by marrying Anja (bottom left), the second daughter of Queen Sofja of the Kingdom of Hosil. It is hoped this will mark the beginning of a new reign and end hostilities between the Kingdom of United Kapalia and the Kingdom of Hosil who historically do not get on because the Kingdom of Hosil claims Esslyn, Kapalia’s eastern province. Kapalia needs that province for access to the Continent.
Initially married to Neetan (top centre), their differing views on Hosian rights and Neetans increasing militarism puts a heavy strain on their relationship and results in more than a few arguments that culminate in Lukas’ very public divorce of Neetan, which not only ruins his own reputation, leading many to question his ability to commit and leaving him open to the unwanted political ambitions of Ishaac, governor of the neighbouring Northern Province, who wishes to unify their provinces through marriage, but also has questionable legality, meaning it is only legal as long as the monarch says it is...
As Lukas’ policies leave him more and more isolated at court, and his turmultuous home life leaves much to be desired, he finds the quiet resence of a recently employed Hosian servant strangely comforting....
As tensions between the kingdoms increase ad Lukas becomes more and more isolated at court, can the quiet presence of a recently hired Hosain servant provide the answers Lukas didn’t know he was looking for, and will it survive his and Neetan’s personal feud? Will the kingdom survive it?
Neetan (Kapal):
Lord Gladius from a prominent military family, married to Lukas in a ‘sword and pen’ marriage which secured military aid to Lukas’ province at a time of escalating conflict and ensured King Ifan could control the province if only indirectly.
Having fought in the civil war, Neetan knows how dangerous Hosians can be and doesn’t understand why Lukas feels they should be given equal rights. The escalating violence from the Hosian Resistance Force means they need to be controlled further.
When it appears Lukas has been brainwashed by his Hosian servants to the point of endangering the country, Neetan is forced to push his personal feelings for Lukas aside and act to save him and Kapalia for the greater good.
Scipio (Hosian):
From the Slums of Lukas’ province. When news travels that Lukas has apparently fired half his staff on a whim, Scipio takes up a job as a servant, hoping that his proximity to the King’s Glove will enable him to pass on information to the rest of the Hosian Resistance (HRF) that will benefit their cause. He knows Kapalian nobles are depraved and will sleep with anything that moves, but hey, at least he’ll have a bed and won’t ruin his knees this way.
When Lukas shows no interest in sex and instead proceeds to teach his entire staff archery - a tradition his family have apparently held for generations, Scipio is even more perplexed. However, as time goes on and he has his own brush with death, he begins to realise that maybe Lukas isn’t such a bad guy.
This becomes problematic when Mav, the leader of the HRF starts to question Scipio’s loyalty. When a miscommunication leads Mav to think that he is the one fucking Lukas, Scipio dares not correct him. Perhaps the part of his brain that is bitter over years of oppression sees it as some sort of vengenace.
However, when Lukas and Neetan’s feud turns the political personal, Scipio is forced to pick a side: will he throw the man who has done so much for him under the bus in return for his own safety? After all....who’s to say Lukas isn’t using him to gain insgiht into the HRF for his own ends? Or will he throw his lot in with Lukas and risk angering the more and more volatile Mav?
Tune in for part two when the main women will be discussed!
All tagged ‘unite my kapalia’ (because apparently Broken Crown is used a lot).

Must read for warriors! As a police officer I consider this book a must read because it helps you understand what your body goes through during high stress encounters. I have found myself wondering why my body shakes in the past during the presence of danger, and this book helped me understand as well as taught me how to calm myself down. It has helped me keep my head in the game and stay focused in situations where any reasonable person would be scared. Lt. Col. Dave Grossman does a fantastic job of explaining why your body reacts the way it does. Go to Amazon
If you are a Law Enforcement Officer , a soldier, a Sheepdog, or any other form of Warrior, this should be required reading, This audio book is read by Grossman himself, its almost as good as attending one of his fantastic seminars. Go to Amazon
At the end I felt like I lost a really good mentor in Grossman though ... This was a very difficult book to read because of what I went through in the Marines. It was as if I was going to battle reading the book, but what I learned was worth it. At the end I felt like I lost a really good mentor in Grossman though difficult, but necessary. I would rather be the sheep dog like it says in the book and know that there are bad people out other. To live in denial of that would make me a sheep I refuse to close my eyes. Go to Amazon
Sheds light on many issues that are making headlines. This is a must read if you are in any profession that involves danger or a citizen that wants to be part of the solution and not the problem. The thing I thought was amazing in this book is the description of the psychological and physiological responses to a violent and fearful encounter. If you read all about this you will see that many of the police involved shootings were because of nature and not a war on the minorities in this country. It also allows you to see that the police need way better training to be able to counter these byproducts of their dangerous profession. Go to Amazon
This guy knows his stuff. Dave Grossman is probably the best authority on PTSD. You can find his lectures on youtube if you're on the fence. He has a unique perspective, as he speaks from first hand experience with all of these matters, instead of purely from academic theory. Refreshing for anyone who is a bit tired of academia. Your professors will either love it, or hate it, depending on their bias and background. So use wisely in research papers. Go to Amazon
Changed My Entire Outlook. "On Combat" and "On Killing" by Lt. Col. David Grossman should be mandatory reading before anyone picks up a gun for self defense. I've taught the permit to carry certification course in Minnesota for over 10 years. I know that most people taking this course think they know what they are getting into. They don't. They'll spend a fortune on guns and holsters but won't spend a nickel on the preparation of their mind and body. I literally pray that they will never need to defend themselves. Lt. Col. Grossman presents his years of research as well as that of other experts in the field of combat in an easy to read and digest format. Along with his co author, David Christiansen, he shows that without proper training of the mind as well as the body, we are naturally opposed to taking a human life no matter what the justification. All the shooting competition in the world won't help unless your mind and body are prepared. As he states, "You are the weapon. The gun is a tool". I cannot express how very important "On Combat" is to the "warrior" in all of us who desires to defend our loved ones as well as ourselves. Please read this book. Go to Amazon
BEST Book ever in preparing yourself for Physical Reality of Conflict "On Combat" by Colonel Dave Grossman is a MUST READ, and better yet "MUST HEAR" book by anyone who has, or may encounter a lethal or deadly force situation. It is ALSO critical for anyone who needs to understand what goes on in the individual during the stresses of physical confrontations. If you're dedicated to protecting your family and loved ones; if you really want to know the impact of the violent video games on your kids, and if you truly want to know the physical and emotional stress of combat and how to deal with it and help others to deal with it, than you CANNOT afford to delay in reading or better yet, listeing to this unabridged audiobook. It is a lifechanger. We need "sheepdogs!" Colonel Grossman has spent his life training and speaking to soldiers, police officers and civilians who have had extraodinary experiences. He himself has had these experiences. Obviously, none of us know, until WE GO THROUGH IT ourselves how we will respond. But you can be BETTER prepared and MUST BE PREPARED for if or when it does occure. This book goes absolutely a long way in a turmultuous world in doing just that! You won't regret a single moment in buying it! Go to Amazon
